The fans are always on. They run on very low RPM during little load.

You need to understand that no laptop can run silently when playing demanding games. And we are talking about high performance gaming laptop here. It will be loud.

My GPU temps are starting to reach 80 degrees Celsius (when playing Skyrim). My CPU temps are also clocking at 60 Celcius. Should I be worried?

No worries. The 560M can do well even at 90C.

It has been recommended if you do prolonged gaming over long periods of time to get a cooler or prop up the rear of you machine a bit to get the max air flow. :)

The 2630QM was superseded by the 2670QM back in October with the release of the slightly faster variants. Since Intel stopped making the previous models, it had just been a matter of time until remaining stock dried up.

I recently got a headset (razer carcharias) and it works well, but with one problem. I try to record my voice, or use it in skype, and there is an annoying static/ white-noise (coming from mic, not headphones). I tried it with my old desktop PC (which has a decent sound card) and there was no static. So, I am assuming that because I ordered my Sager with the stock (not-so-good) sound-card, then that is the problem. I want to purchase a USB sound card to 'bypass', if you will, the cheap internal one. I would like to keep it under $40 (it just needs to improve mic quality, and possibly headphone quality). I looked into the X-Fi Go! Pro Amazon.com: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Go! Pro USB Audio System with THX SB1290: Electronics and the Asus Xonar Amazon.com: ASUS Xonar U3 Sound Cards (XONAR_U3/UAD/B/A): Electronics. I was just wondering if any of you Sager owners had any suggestions of what to buy. Thanks in advance.

Got the laptop a few days ago.

It's running pretty much as advertised, no real problems, runs very cool, decent battery life for a gaming rig and the performance, quite frankly, is amazing.

Personally I don't like the feel of the plastic at all. Doesn't matter much but the touch pad is made of the same (or similar) material and it really feels uncomfortable to me.

The sound is fairly good overall, and the speakers and subwoofer (small one, btw) are good for a laptop. When using heaphones, the sound is simlarly decent except that the amplification seems to be off. Bass is significantly reduced to the point where some of my favorite genres of music are ruined, in my opinion.

I've managed to solve this problem by hooking up some speakers to the laptop, and when using headphones I plug them directly into the speakers.

Actually these two problems I've mentioned aren't really problems at all because I use the notebook as a desk-top replacement so I never use the touchpad and the speakers are always handy. Might be annoying for people who carry it around, though.

Thanks to everyone on this thread, by the way, including the resellers - very informative during the buying process.

Is it normal for the light in the power button of this laptop to not be distributed equally along its icon? I mean it's brighter on the lower part of the power button icon than on the top.

Yes, this isn't uncommon. It's underlit by an LED, which doesn't affect anything in terms of operation. It's purely cosmetic.

Hey guys, do all you guys have your USB 3.0 ports working properly. My ports keep dying from time to time. They start working again for some time once I reinstall the drivers but then they eventually die again. I've tried installing a bunch of drivers, would highly appreciate any help.

    ronnie_10,

Seams like you may have a new problem here, or at least the sager team has never heard of it.

Contact your vendor, they'll take care of you.

Do you have the newest drivers and firmware for you USB 3.0 hub? Check out this thread for the links: (you may have to search through there for the firmware, if it's still available)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/573379-clevo-driver-thread.html

The old firmware reportedly had that problem from time to time.

Quick question guys/gals: Just got my 8130 (specs are in my signature) and first thing I did was install and run CPUID Hwmonitor. After three separate 30 min test with only bare minimum background programs running, I got the below results:

Without desktop cooler: Overall temp: 91-131 degrees .. 560M: 91-102 degrees
With desktop cooler: Overall temp: 89-109 degrees .. 560M: 91-100 degrees
With cooler & fan on high setting: Overall: 82-90 .. 560M: 84-95 degrees

Do these sound about right to you ?

Hmm, interesting. So that shows the cooler doesn't do much, but the fan really gets the job done.

With the fan on, those temps are fine.

When the USB 3.0 are NOT working, is it showing up or not in the device manager?

Also if your 8130 shipped before May of 2011 you may need a bios update. There was a big bios fix in April. :)

Are those temps in C or F? I'm really hoping you put them in F because otherwise those are frighteningly high temps

If in Celsius, then they're pretty darn good. Cooling pads don't do too much compared to the internal fans because all they can really do is cool the case, not the internals.

In F those are extremely low temps.

Just so you know, with computers, temperatures are almost always stated in Celsius.

It seems the backspace key on my keyboard has broken to the point where it gets stuck or won't work if I press down on it on either side. Is there a way to replace the keyboard or just the key?

It might not be broken but I can't figure out for the life of me how to put it back on correctly.

    Anyone have any ideas?

They're scissor type keys, so they should just pop back on unless the key itself is broken. You can contact your retailer to see if they can send you a replacement key. If not, a full replacement keyboard would be likely (though it's a quick and relatively painless install).

Well because the backspace key is bigger, it has a metal bracket in the slot which is suppose to hook onto the key somehow so that you can press on the sides of the key and have the middle of the key go down. I assume the enter key is the same way which would give me an idea of how it hooks on but I don't want to accidentally break a working key.

I've emailed my reseller (XoticPC) so I guess I'll just wait for a response back.

    Thanks for your help.

Woops, I posted this in the wrong section...I meant to post this here:

    Hey all,

I have one problem with my new sager, which is that every so often (more typically when I am watching a movie or playing games such as Battlefield 3) my ram/ CPU stutter. They spike up to 100%, causing the movie/ games to glitch for a second or two, and then return to normal. Any advice on how to fix this? Has anyone else had this problem with their NP8130?

I bought my Sager/Clevo NP8130 from ReflexNotebooks for around $1500 -> received on Jan. 13.

    Specs:
    -Factory matte screen
    -16 gigs ram @1333
    -IC diamond thermal compound
    -I7 2670 processor
    -750gb + 8gb SSD hybrid drive
    -560m Nvidia GeForce GPU 1.5GB
    -Windows 7 home premium
    -1yr parts and labour warranty

    Review:
Battery -So far it works pretty well, but a bit different from what I was expecting. Battery life is decent for a gaming computer. 2-3 hours for non-demanding things like surfing the internet. 1-2 hours for playing games such as WOW. Intense games like Battlefield 3 are unplayable on battery power.

Gaming - It can play all the games, but not on maxed out settings. For instance WoW: Ultra settings = 9-20 FPS during intense fights. Some ultra + high+med settings= 30-60FPS; Battlefield 3 on the other hand: Ultra settings= from 5-30FPS, medium & high settings = 30-60FPS (during intense fights). I could probably overclock this if I felt confident in doing so, but I see no reason to put added pressure on the laptop seeing as I already have a CPU spiking problem.

Temperature (I have the thermal compound) - idle: GPU= 31C, CPU= 36C; Intense gaming (3+ hrs): GPU = maxed out at 71C, CPU 72C. I am very impressed with the low temperatures. This computer literally does not get hot!!

FAN- I am very impressed with the fans! My god, they are QUIET. My old crappy laptop with NO GPU an thus no need for a big fan is like a jet engine beside this thing. Even when I had Battlefield 3 on maxed out settings the fans were barely noticeable. You can feel the air being pumped out the back, but its whisper quiet.

Keyboard - Its a nice keyboard, however it seems to rattle (especially near the arrow keys and number pad) when i type.

Weight - well, its heavy, what do you expect! Not crazy heavy, but moreso than the average laptop at bestbuy. The brick is kind of rediculous lol. Its a beast, all i gotta say.

Speed - Everything pops up nice and fast. Minimal load time for anything. Start-up would be faster with a SSD, but still, nothing to complain about. If you're adamant about instant start-up then just use the sleep mode!

Overall, nice laptop. Pros= cooling, fan noise, processor speed, better battery life than some owners would have me believe. Cons= GPU not as powerful as I thought, keyboard rattles, Ram/ CPU spiking problem!

For your "spiking" problem- are you running the machine in high performance power modes? Double check in Windows and in the hotkey settings (right click the laptop icon on your quicklaunch bar). Power saver settings seem to cause this once in a while.

The keyboard rattle is unusual, but it's come up before. Check out this link if you want to try to fix it yourself:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/634198-p150hm-keyboard-rattling.html

The battery issue you've noticed is not unusual. The problem with running on battery power is that the battery itself just cannot output the power the machine needs to run at full speed. This is why you notice drastically reduced settings in games on battery compared to AC.

Thanks Malibal, I'll check out your link once I get home. I got mine in !st week April-11. Could that be the problematic old firmware? I did try out the latest Renesas drivers, that didn't give me very good results.

If you got it way back in April, you probably might want to update your bios before anything else. The newest bios fixed some USB 3.0 problems for others. Since your machine is Sager branded, contact your retailer for the appropriate files.

I just received my NP8130, which I believe to be the same as P151HM1. However, under the DirectX diagnostic tool, it lists the system model as P150HMx. Is this correct?

The reason for the discrepancy is due to the way the models are named. The P151HM1 (8130) does not actually have any internal differences from the P150HM. The motherboard make and model is exactly the same, which is what is reported in the tool. The P151HM1 designation is only used to refer to the plastic exterior model with the smaller power supply and different stock screen.

I bought my Sager awhile back from Xotic but I didn't opt for the upgraded thermal compound.

Do you guys think it would be worth it to put my own Artic Silver 5 (that is a few years old) on my CPU and GPU?

I'm in a very cold room (Michigan cold) and my temperatures with Prime 95 going for my CPU are around 77C and GPU 70C

This concerns me a bit as I can't imagine what they will be in the Michigan summer.

Those temperatures are pretty good under load. As long as you're staying under 90C, there's nothing to worry about. That said, applying AS5 will be a decent upgrade from the stock paste and could possibly drop the temps a few degrees.
