i am sorry ,what details do you require??
the cpu.gpu temps seem to be okay.now there is constant high pitched noise at mid to full volume coming from the laptop which cannot be heard when i plugin the headfone.anyother details you require i will gladly give.but ii donot know
ps.nvm it seems the microfone boost was on at full.so that was causing the high pitched noise.sorry for the post -
I applied the paste and I'm shocked.
I put some new thermal paste onto the CPU. The the amount of paste on there was pretty disgusting to look at. The paste was literally overflowing into the green part of the chip.. Not good.
So I cleaned it up with some rubbing alcohol and put a moderate amount on and now I'm getting 63C reported in Speccy with Prime 95 running and HW monitor reporting Core 1 to be 60C and the other core to be 70.
I don't know who built my PC but they really need to watch how much paste they put on it. -
I was recently upgrading the ram on my np8130, and I had to take out the keyboard to get to those ram dimms. After I put it back, I tried to start it, and it wouldn't start. I took out the ram that I had just put in, and it still wouldn't start. The indicator on the bottom (the power one) just stays orange when plugged in, and when i press the power button it turns green momentarily, but nothing happens. Is there a fix or do I have to send it in?
-
Try removing the other RAM too, and then re-insert the RAM.
Then clear the CMOS battery by pulling out the battery and pushing down on the power button for about 10-15 seconds. -
Check to make sure you have reconnected your keyboard ribbon cable properly. A loose cable could potentially cause the laptop to simply fail POST and just not boot up.
Definitely double check your RAM seating on your other DIMMS as well and try re-seating the CMOS battery as well as the laptop battery itself.
Check your keyboard connections first though. -
Worked like a charm, thanks!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Sorry, I have to ask.
We know your computer is booting, but has your new RAM upgrade worked?
We like to see things through here.

I have a booting problem after relocating my ram. My sager came with two ram sticks installed right behind the back cover. So, I tried to relocate the ram under the keyboard dimms. After relocating, I took the the CMOS battery and the computer battery out as well as no AC plug in. I then pushed the power button for 10-15 seconds. Reinstalled the batteries and booted up to a black screen. I tried this over and over many time to make sure I got everything seated correctly, but it wouldn't boot. Am I missing any step?
Thanks in advance. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
First thing I would recommend is to reseat the memory. It sounds like it wasnt seated properly, or the keyboard ribbon was not reseated properly. The other possibility is that when you were moving the memory it got hit with static electricity. Were you properly grounded with a wrist strap when you were handling the memory?
The memory slots do not need to be activated, they are active.

Hi Sha7bot, I tried malibal's link and the new usb 3.0 (2.1.28.1) driver also doesn't seem to be doing the trick. The computer whines abt driver incompatibility everytime i restart. I'm gonna have to go thru with the bios update. This is gonna be the first time I'll do it. Could you please give me the directions and location of the files I'll need for the update?
Edit: Been more than a day? No response? -
Does anyone know where to get a NZXT CRYO LX laptop cooler? Its either that or a CM Notpal U3 or Zalman 3000. Thanks!
-
You should check ebay or google shopping. There are a lot of affordable ones
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Sorry for the delay. Sha7bot PM'd you with the answer but I thought I would put it out there for anyone else with the same question.
Be sure to only use Sager BIOS on Sager laptops. Generic Clevo or other branded Clevo BIOS will be different.
To get a Sager BIOS update just email [email protected] with your serial number and the issue you are having, and if an updated BIOS will address your issue they will email the updated BIOS to you. They generally do not publish BIOS files because if you don't know what you are doing it is really easy to brick your laptop if you do it incorrectly. -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
But usually all latest BIOS updates are listed in the Clevo BIOS thread here in NBR right? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Err....Be sure to only use Sager BIOS on Sager laptops. Generic Clevo or other branded Clevo BIOS will be different.
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
No, the only ones listed there are for Clevo machines. If you purchased your machine from a Sager reseller and your boot screen has a Sager splash, you should only use the bios provided by Sager or your reseller. If instead your bios splash screen is generic and you purchased from a Clevo retailer, you can use the Clevo Bios thread.
The danger in going from a Sager bios to a Clevo bios is that you can never go back without risking a bricked machine. -

Please see this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/416916-clevo-bios-thread.html
You can see that the latest BIOS for the P150HM there is a SAGER version. I know that I need to use a Sager version of the BIOS in my Sager machine. Is that the latest version? -
Why do you need a BIOS update?
-
Thanks Donald! Sha7bot told me Sager would contact me in a few days.
And abt doing the update correctly, is there a guide or some material on how to go about it for Sager. I have a general idea but I dont want to brick one of the most imp things in my life

With my computers, I always want anything to be on the latest drivers firmware. If there is anything wrong with that specific version, then I downgrade with no problems. There are a lot of people like me and I don't think anything's wrong with that.
I just need an answer here. What is the latest version of the Sager BIOS and EC/KBC firmware? -
I got my sager np8130 couple weeks ago, and the BIOS version matches what Clevo has them listed (Sager version). Assuming mine is the latest when they put the laptop together, then that should be the latest also.
-
Oddly, when I sent my laptop to xotic, they returned it to me with a sager bios lol.
Also anyone know if both hd ports 6 gb/s? (The optical one and the main hd) -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Even when you send the computer to Xotic PC or any Sager reseller you'll get the Sager BIOS on there. You sometimes get different ones that build from a Clevo barebones but not directly from Sager.
The HDD bay is a SATA III 6Gb/s but the optical bay drive is a SATA II 3Gb/s -
does anyone else have really spotty two-finger scrolling? it really only seems to work about half the time, which is frustrating because it's primarily the way i scroll pages.
tried checking synaptics settings, but nothing helped. -
It's just the quality of the trackpad..
My Sager had the exact same problem.
Sent from my iPhone with Tapatalk -
Also any of your guys touchpad fading out? Mine is starting to develop shiny spots, the coating is like falling apart.
-
It is normal. It does look aesthetically unpleasing.
-
Does anyone know if the sager np8130 will be coming with a backlit keyboard anytime soon?
-
Sadly I flashed the Clevo version of BIOS.
So I take there is no coming back to SAGER version?
I read something a while ago that Sager/Clevo is working on a version of BIOS that are interchangable? -
There's no going back my friend. Call Sager, they may have a solution for you.
We haven't heard of any BIOS forthcoming from Sager that would be interchangeable. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
You could try going back, but there's a pretty high chance that it would brick your whole machine. I would say that you'll either want to try to RMA it for a replacement if the Sager Bios is that important, or just stick with the Clevo bios from here on. However, you may want to see what your retailer says as they may not honor the warranty if the bios has been changed out. (Not common, but possible).

The new Ivy Bridge version will have a backlit keyboard. -
It turns out it was a bad stick of ram, I sent it back to newegg and got another one which worked out fine.
-
I have been using this for a while now. Today when I turned on my computer, I couldn't bypass the BIOS. I am stuck with this black screen of "American Megatrends".
I didn't mess with bios or anything. Is there any way to reset it? -
Have you tried yanking out your battery and holding down the power button for 3-5 seconds?
If you can get into BIOS, try and reset everything to defaults. You never know.
Try removing any unnecessary hardware, like all but one memory module, or everything but your primary boot drive. Heck you can try removing that and seeing if you can get to a "Insert proper boot media" screen. -
I took out the hard drive and now it's asking for a boot media...I was able to boot from my flash drive(ubuntu). When I put back the hard drive, the boot screen freezes. I set up booting from usb device first, but still same thing. It happens only when HDD is connected.
-
You have a dead HDD that is causing the BIOS to hang waiting for it (HDD) to respond. I would contact your purchasing place to get a RMA started.
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
Agreed. The fact that it boots fine from other media and is only a problem with the drive present eliminates pretty much every other option. If you have a spare hard drive laying around to try, that would be the best bet. But either way, an RMA is in order. -
I've just ordered a Clevo 151HM from Prostar with these stats.
15.6" 1920 x 1080 Full HD (16:9) Matte Type Display
Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor, 2.2 GHz (Max Turbo Frequency 3.1GHz)
8GB, PC3-10600/1333Mhz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M w/1.5GB GDDR5
750GB/7200rpm Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive w/8GB SSD Memory SATA-600 (SATA III 6GB/s)
I'm curious about the 15.6" 1080p Matte type display and it's overall quality for gaming and graphic design?
I am very excited to get this laptop next tuesday! It will be even more powerful than my desktop.
Also is it possible to underclock the processor and GPU heavily to save battery life for school and work!? -
The Matte type display will only be reducing glare really so it will make it easier to view if you have the sun beating down from behind you through a window or too much light in the room.
If you got the standard display it should be decent, but if you were to do graphic design you may have wanted to consider the 95% NTSC color gamut display as the colors are much more vibrant. Standard Matte display should be only about 72% color gamut.
I'm not totally certain what you mean by heavily under-clocking but there have been people here in these forums that have under-clocked or under-volted the GPU a bit but I don't believe anyone has mentioned doing the same for the CPU. With the CPU, you can control that to an extent in the Windows 7 Power Options by controlling the minimum and maximum processor state.
A better way to manage power consumption to save on battery life is to make sure to disable your wifi/bluetooth if you are not using them as those two items tend to consume a lot of power. It also may help to find a desk near an outlet just in case you do need that wifi/bluetooth.
I speak from experience in the college environment.

This thread will help with the screen comparisons:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-between-different-screen-options-photos.html
As for underclocking, you're going to be limited. The CPU you ordered does not have an unlocked multiplier, so you won't be able to change it at all outside of power settings in Windows. The GPU can potentially be undervolted , but it's already pretty efficient on it's own when you go to battery mode. Both the CPU and GPU will automatically scale down their clocks fairly low when at idle or on battery. Except for undervolting, there isn't much you can yourself that will be better and undervolting can potentially void your warranty. -
Kinda posted it under a "wrong" thread if you will
But apparently there will be no backlit P151EM .. -
Thank you for the replies Heihachi_1337 and MALIBAL #2.
Is the 95% gamut display worth paying the extra $100!? I will usually be gaming and doing graphic design at home or at a friends house LAN'ing [like 75% of the time at least], and in these cases I'll bring an HDMI and run the computer on an HDTV. But if the display is really that much better than a matte display I am willing to call Prostar and ask them to add it to my order; they started building it yesterday but probably haven't finished so I could make a revision possibly. Would its 95% gamut be even better than an HDTV ? Would it make games look much better and vibrant?
So with everything cranked down do you think I could get 4-5 hours if I run the computer with 0% brightness and wifi/bluetooth off and the GPU underclocked as much as possible? I will also be killing every program except for MS Word to take notes in school. I just want to be able to sit through 1-2 classes without a charger in case I don't have access to an outlet. I am taking all major finance and accounting courses for the next 3 years trying to get a double major and as an accountant/financial analyst to be I will need to take allot of notes and use a lot of spreadsheets and accounting/finance software. If it won't last this long I can buy a secondary battery right? I'm worried about how the second battery will charge though....?
Sorry for all of the questions I'm just very new to the laptop world; especially the world of Clevo and custom built to order ones. I've had a desktop that I built myself when I was 15 for the past 5 years and finally the MOBO fried out on me due to a careless mistake. Also the CPU cooler [a $60 Zalman cooler that worked wonders for OCING my 2.66ghz dual core to 3.4ghz] broke. So I decided instead of dropping $150 - 200 getting new parts I'd rather get a laptop since I'll need one for school. I'll fix my desktop in the future months and use it as a media center/windows server for my room.
Thanks in advance for all the advice and help; you guys really know your stuff and I appreciate it! -
Just did a quick search and can't find a single thread about undervolting??? Has anyone tried? Please report on success/failure.
I'm mainly interested in undervolting GPU. Nvidia Inspector shows voltages but won't allow changes to be made. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
For your first question, the screen is up to you. The thread I linked earlier will let you compare the two screens directly. That said, if you're planning to use it hooked up to an external display fairly often, you may not want to bother with the upgrade. It may be a nice screen, but it just isn't the same as a 40" HDTV for gaming on.
If however, you want a premium display for all the times you aren't using an external, then you may want to consider it. It's brighter and has much better colors than the stock screen. This may or may not be important for most work, but it does make picture editing and most color intensive work easier.
For your second question, I don't think you can ever expect that kind of battery life. At best you may be able to get 3 hours or so. The average is 2-3 and the latter end of that range takes a lot of work to get. If battery life is a concern, I'd suggest getting a second battery (which will require hibernating the machine to swap out, plus swapping out later to recharge), or looking at an optimus enabled machine which can give you another 1-1.5 hours on average.
Just be aware that undervolting can void your warranty. Please check with your retailer before doing so, as you may not want to risk damage. If you don't mind doing it at your own risk then check out this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/235824-undervolting-guide.html -
I may get an extra battery; If I do I'll have to fully charge one then swap it with another and charge that one? Hybernating between swaps of course. Very good advice I'll definitely be doing this actually. About how long should it take to charge the battery? I have no idea as I"ve never had a laptop before.
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
That's correct. You'll have to charge the battery that's installed, then hibernate and swap it for the other. Once that one is charged you'll have two to use. Do the same thing when you're swapping out the dead battery for a fresh one.
Battery charging is pretty lengthy. It's ~2-3 hours to charge it (about the same as overall run time). Charging goes faster if the machine is off than if it's running as well. -
Just ordered one today from ReflexNotebook, extremely excited to get it
