ok, so I've search the thread, found nothing, so I'm asking now, Has anyone here Upgraded their video card to the 6990 or gtx 580m? people say it can be done but I', having trouble finding people that have done it.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Neither the thermal solution or power input (120W) are suitable for either the AMD Radeon HD 6990M 256bit w/2GB GDDR5 or nVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M 256bit w/2.0GB GDDR5.
You would also not have the proper heatsink. These upgrades should not be done on the Sager NP8130. -
Get Svet's VBIOS Tool. You'll need to donate in order to download it. Then download MSI afterburner to monitor the results. -
You can get a 180w power supply and a new heatsink to support the 6970 or GTX580m I believe; I've seen a few people on here that say it can be done. Probably $400-600 though.
-
"Can I upgrade my GPU on the Sager NP 8130?
Yes, you most definitely can, but you will most likely need a new PSU, which will cost an additional $100+, depending on the wattage it is rated at. There are people who have upgraded their Sager NP 8130 to the GTX 560M, the GTX 485M, GTX 580M, the Radeon 6970M, and the Radeon 6990M cards, all with excellent results.",
So this isn't true then? kinda kills my buying decision. -

1) That you get a proper card and heatsink. Not all aftermarket cards fit all laptops due to Vbios, etc. A Clevo retailer can get you a guaranteed card (if still available). New cards should come with the appropriate heatsink.
2) You have the power needed. You can buy the 180w adapter for the P151HM1 and it will give the needed bump.
3) You don't mind potentially losing your warranty. Contact your original retailer to see if that may happen if you swap out the power brick and the GPU/heatsink. Clevo does not officially support the 100w GPU's in the P151HM1. -
-
So I have the elipida ram and it's only running at 667mhz, anyway to make it run at pc3 13333
Also I hope clevo makes ivy bridge 15in np8130 sucessor with 120hz... would even be super if allowed extreme chip ocing
I'd spend the dosh again lol. -

Chances are it isn't Memtest86 because that utility will show it accurately.
The utility you are using isn't factoring in the fact that unless you are using DDR memory (which in this case you are not, you are using DDR3) you have to double what it shows. Therefore 667Mhz x2 = 1333Mhz. -
cpuz it says
max bandwidth pc3-10700 667mhz
elpidia ebj21ue8bfu0-dj-f -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes, if CPUZ says PC3-10700 @ 667Mhz then you definitely have DDR3/1333 running at 1333Mhz. You simply have to double it.
To prove it to yourself download Memtest86 and run it. You will see it is clocked at 1333Mhz.

o i c i will edit that out
one last question I got an ocz agility 3 recently, but I am getting like half the speeds reported in benchmarks.
200 MB/s read 100 MB//s writes in auto when people are getting much hgiher like 500 MB/s
I am on the sata 6 port...? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Is it installed in the hard drive bay, or the optical drive bay?
How are you measuring those speeds?
Is your firmware up to date? You will find the latest firmware on the OCZ website. -
Hard drive bay, and yes latest, I tried to update in Linux day i got it but it said up to date
Support Question Slow speeds agility 3 -
Oh I should mention I have 45/111 gb free, does that effect write speeds...? And in the disk defragmenter my SSD shows up... uh oh And it was set to weekly, could this be the culprit?
EDIT: when i hit select disks it's not an option
also my windows disk bench went from 7.9 to 7.7 after i reran it now (7.9 when i initally had the ssd installed)
Inever bench with crystal initially : / -
good luck

I'm definitely going to get the 6990 and 180w power supply for my P151HM / 8130 once I get more cash and wait a while. Hopefully within the next 8-12 months I'll get extra money and get one; the 6990 is impressive for the price compared to the 580m which is over priced imo. 6990 is 90% of the performance for 75% of the cost. The GTX 560m is probably enough though; I like to play League of Legends and plan on playing Diablo 3 [won't be demanding at all for this rig]. Also I want to get in on Tribes Ascension Beta and Photoshop; We'll see; but I'm glad I can upgrade to an SSD and 6990 once the prices drop in a little under a year. Hope the 6990 drops at least $100; $500 currently....

And no, free space won't make a difference. The swap space needed for SSD's to work at full speed is typically part of overprovisioning and it's hidden from the user. -
No I mean I didn't want disk defragmenter to ever run, I was making sure it was not running.
Also, not related, does the Clevo bios for np8130 have a lot more configuration options compared to the sager one? Also does the laptop support uefi? I never even bothered to check, I just assumed if it had uefi there would be a pretty GUI. -
Anyway, all Clevo BIOS's have been UEFI based since 2010. So yes this is UEFI based. However, they haven't enabled UEFI native booting on all platforms yet. -
-
So do the Clevo BIOS's for 8130 have more features/customization than the sager bios?

Hi all, I am interested in getting a Sager NP8130, or better yet, an NP8150. I have a few questions for owners or sellers if you have time to answer them. I have heard multiple reviews saying that Sager quality is not very good when compared to Asus and it's too powerful a system for it's own good, kinda like the deal with the M14x. Could someone please tell me their honest thoughts on this? I don't won't to be told it's a great system simply because they own it or sell it. I'd like to hear if it is a good system based on quality and reliability alone, especially compared to Asus. I'm worried because even though Sager is an expensive system, it is an expensive system that I can't afford to have give me trouble in the middle of a school year having to ship it back for a week. I especially like the idea of buying from a company called Maingear (does not participate here at NBR), but it doesn't have to be them (XoticPC is cool too). On a side note, how good is it at being a day to day in class moving around campus University system? Thanks everybody.
-
Any laptop will have issues, even an Alienware or Asus but it is a very small percentage (2% or less).
Regarding day to day in class moving around campus, the battery life appears to be a bit short (2 hours roughly) but that should be okay to get through a university course and then recharge after class. You may want to consider a second battery, although you would still have to charge the battery while it was in the laptop. -

For build quality the Asus G series models will be better then Sager NP51XX (currently phased out) but the NP81XX series are a better build quality then the G series.
If you mean more quality of components you always need to keep in mind most parts inside the computer are not made by that brand so they can actually use identical parts. By this I mean the RAM, CPU, HDD/SSD, Optical drive, Wireless card etc could be all the same parts.
The NP8130 and NP8150 are excellent for build quality, performance, and bang for your buck.
Saying its too powerful for its own good is like saying a Ferrari can go too fast -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
You just have to choose the computer that best suits your needs from a select group of high end choices, take care of it well, and be prepared in the event some component fails. Should that happen, don't blame the brand, if anything, blame life in the big city...this is reality. -
against asus the np8150/70 has much better build quality, better options on parts and about the same cooling.
against msi GT series, Sager is lesser in terms of speakers, web cam and keyboard can't comment on build quality since I haven't really played with one yet.
against lenovo W series, sager is a couple of points below in terms of build quality (business class notebooks are shock proof, spill proof, best keyboard in laptops for me etc... wished it was idiot proof as well...different story)
Am I happy with my sager, definitely, is it perfect? nope however for what it was designed to do it does it very well. -

Just a note...
Sager has said that the Sager NP8130 has been phased out. Sorry.

There Goes Me Waiting For It To Go On Sale Right Before They Introduce The Refresh. Sigh -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
We have said many times that Sager models almost never go on sale prior to an introduction of a new model. Existing models are sold out before new ones are introduced in almost every case.

Hey guys,
I've noticed two issues with my Malibal P151HM1 and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing these.
- When I use hibernate in Windows 7, about one out of every 10 times, the laptop never hibernates. The screen turns black but the fans keep running and all the lights stay on. I have to turn it off, and I lose everything I had running.
- When I bring the laptop back from hibernate, I am often times unable to change the brightness. I have to restart, and then changing the brightness works fine.

2) This is a known issue and it's related to your graphics drivers. It sometimes helps to do a clean install (uninstall old drivers, run driversweeper in safe mode, install newest drivers). -

Already been charged for it too... -
-
That has yet to be seen. You can check the rest of the Sager forums, there are people speculating but it is purely speculation and should not be taken as truth.
There are rumors going around as well about Sager/Clevo announcing at CeBIT, again this is only speculations though and we really won't know until then.
Hopefully, we will all get something out of CeBIT. That should be kicking off tomorrow. -
i have a question, can you have more than 1 display at once? I have my asus 120hz monitor, I was wondering if I could hook up a hdmi device as well?
-
yup you can, not sure bout the dvi port as well though (3 active monitors)
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
You can do two monitors at a time, Built in/DVI, Built in/HDMI, HDMI/DVI. To get a third monitor you need to get an adapter, a USB one works well as long as you dont plan on anything graphic intensive like gaming on the monitor that hooks up to it.
