It wouldn't be surprising. I've seen sleep occasionally bork the WiFi, touchpad, and keyboard at times. It's not common, but once in a while it happens. It's most likely a Windows software issue, not hardware.

I think I have no choice but to re-paste my GPU. Can anyone either give me a walkthrough for how to do it or point me in the direction of a video tutorial?

It would be even better if there was one floating around out there specifically for the 8130, but I'm sure I'm asking too much.

TBH, I'm really nervous to do it. I don't want to mess my laptop up more.

I just ordered IC Diamond 24 Carat thermal compound from amazon. It comes in what looks like a syringe. Is that the correct item?

Here's the user manual which should have full instructions (page 2-19):

    P15xHM_ESM.zip

Here's the application instructions for IC Diamond:

    Application

    Basically:

    1) Remove AC adapter/battery
    2) Take off bottom component cover
    3) Unscrew screws 1-4 on the GPU (remove in reverse numerical order, and skip 5-7 as you aren't doing anything to the memory heatsink)
    4) The heatsink should come free
    5) Clean off old paste with 90% isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth
    6) Apply new paste using IC Diamond instructions
    7) Reattach and screw down heatsink (normal numerical order)
    8) Put component bay cover back on, put back in battery.

I just purchased a used NP8130 for a GREAT price, so even if all the negatives listed here were true, I'd still be happy with the machine. That said, I am HUGELY impressed. Coming from the Asus G53SW, my NP8130 has slightly better specs (i7 2630QM/GTX560m vs i7 2630QM/GTX460m), but in a much smaller and lighter package.

The keyboard is better because unlike the G53SW one, it does not miss key strokes. The touchpad also is better because unlike the G53SW one, it does not register random clicks, etc. Who knew I'd be impressed when a laptop actually works? :p

The screen is also immensely better. The previous owner opted for the 95% gamut glossy screen (not available on the G53SW where I bought it) and it's a night and day difference. It's not washed out and colour reproduction is amazing. Playing Skyrim for instance is a whole new experience now.

And speaking of games, in spite of the much smaller size (I'd say the NP8130 is about 30-40% smaller by volume), it also runs MUCH cooler. With a fresh Arctic Silver 5 repaste, max temps in Skyrim are hovering around 80oC vs. 89oC. The temps should go down within a week or so.

I also had to do a partial tear down to fix the top case. The previous owner had cracked one corner, which is part of the reason it was so cheap. I just epoxied the damage, and now it holds together perfectly and the crack is almost invisible. Of the more than a dozen different laptops I've taken apart in my life, I must say the NP8130 is THE easiest laptop to work on.

I am very serious when I say this laptop does not need a disassembly manual. If you built a desktop before, you can figure this laptop out.

So... Anyone want to buy a G53SW? :D

Does anyone know if the 8130 can use its DVI-out port to connect to RCA ports? I'm trying to hook my laptop up to an old CRT TV but I'm not sure if the DVI can go to analog.

The TV has the yellow composite port and the red/white audio ports. If it's possible, what cords would be the best to connect the audio and video of my laptop to my TV? Thanks a ton.

Hi guys,i've had my np8130 for 5months now and is working perfectly until last week. Im using the driver 285.62 and intalled 296.10. 3 days after installing it,i've experienced alot of screen freeze or my screen would look like a TV with poor signal and gets "Nvidia driver has stopped working and has successfully recovered"notification. i also got pink pixels all over my screen, and other colors when i watch movies. i then switched back to my old driver 285.62,but still got the same problem. sumone tod me to use the beta driver 301.24 and it fixed the pixel issue.it works fine now,but there are time that my screen will freeze for like .5secs consecutively for 3-5 times and then works fine again.idk if this is related to my earlier issue on the driver, but can anyone explain me this? thank you very much!

When you installed the latest drivers, did you use the express or custom installation?
You may want to enter Windows Safe Mode (F8 key before it boots into Windows) and remove all of your nVidia drivers in the Control Panel >
Programs and Features list. You may need to reboot your computer after uninstalling the drivers, just make sure to re-enter Safe Mode.

You may also want to use Driver Sweeper found here: Driver Sweeper - CNET Download.com this will also require Safe Mode to use, and make sure it only looks for the nvidia drivers.

After that, try re-installing the latest drivers in normal Windows environment and be sure to select the "Custom" installation and check the box to "Perform a Clean Installation".

Please let us all know if this helps any.

Also, have you blown the dust out of your heatsinks and fans lately?

I tried using Driver Sweeper while on safe mode, but after restaring and going back to safe mode the driver isnt removed.I just manually uninstalled every nvidia driver while on safe mode then reinstalled beta driver 301.24.

I havent cleaned my laptop ever since i got it,and it has been sitting in my desk for 2month. When i flipped it i saw thick dust on the 'inhale' vent of the gpu fan. I then opened the back cover so i can clean the fans inside, and was shocked to see that half of the gpu 'exhale' vent is blocked by thick dust. I also cleaned the other vent, which almost has the same amount of dust.

i hope this will fix the issue, thank you very much for helping me and reminding me to clean my fans. :)) i can say its easy to open this laptop as its my first time to do it. thank you very much!

What are the best drivers to use for GTX 460M? Looks like the latest driver version from Nvidia is 301.42 released just yesterday on 5/22. I've haven't updated my drivers since I got my 8130 and I don't have any issues but if the new drivers are stable I'd like to update. What driver version is everyone using?

    Thanks

I've been having this problem for the entire year of life of my NP 8130. I've RMA'ed 3 times and have had no success with Sager fixing the issue. I've currently filed a formal complaint with attorny general in the state of WA. Sager is aware of this, and has simply stated they will provide another graphics card.

    Here's a few videos.

The main culprit, I've been having these issues for the entire year: WP 20120517 013327Z - YouTube

The most recent issue after a supposed replace of the motherboard, the graphics fan isn't working: WP 20120524 040256Z - YouTube

If you search the web, you find MANY of us with this issue. I know folks have enjoyed their Sager, but after a full year of issues, I'm in a full social media and legal fight after wasting $2,000 and am trying to get my voice heard. Xotic PC is fast to respond, but their basically saying Sager is at fault, so I'm dissapointed I wasted the few hundred bucks on their premier support as well.

Speak up if your having issues!

That really sucks! I've had my 8130 for over a year now and have never had a problem with it. Maybe I just shouldn't update the video card driver since it's working fine.

I just had to take my fans out and clean out the dust/dog hair also. You can't see it until your remove the fan(s), as the debris accumulated between the fan and the cooling fins of the heat sink.

I noticed my fans were cycling higher and more frequently which made me decide to disassemble to inspect. Even though I keep my machine elevated about an inch off my desktop surface, the fans seem to be strong enough to suck up crap. I'm thinking I'll need to start cleaning it every three months or so.

I think reinstalling the driver and cleaning the fans solved my problem. but with what you said, it scares me to think that this might be an hardware issue. I've shipped my laptop out of US so it'll be hard if some parts are needed to be replaced. i just really hope its fixed already, though i havent had issues again after doing what they suggested me to do.

Do you guys experience a slow motion thingy when playing games? i experience these somtimes, and it happens randomly. Its the same thing that happens when im doing something in google sketchup while on battery, where things move in slow motion or delay.its what happens when i play jade dynasty, sometimes it moves slow for like 3 seconds as if im on battery then return backs to normal. im thinking that maybe the psu for np8130 is not giving enough power?i dont know much about those,so im just guessing.anyone else experiencing this?thanks!

That might be lag (which is a network problem) or the game's designed like that. Examples are: The Witcher 2, Prototype, and Batman AA and AC.

I'm looking at an AC adapter to chuck into my portable kit; light weight and slim profile is preferred. I'm not so sure about the voltage required; I think the 8130/9130 requires 20v/6amp, please confirm. I have no intentions of upgrading my GPU, so I did not search for any 180w PSU. Generally the trend is that a larger wattage would mean a bigger PSU, and that is not what I'm trying to find here. However, if there are 180w options that you think may fit what I'm looking for, please do not hesitate to suggest.

    I see a few options for 120v:-
Kensington 120W Slim AC/DC Notebook Power Adapter Review
    NB Q120 PLUS | NB Q Series | Adapter | FSPLifeStyle
USNA 120 - Cooler Master - Leading Provider of Computer Case | Cooler | Power Supply

Question is, which one of the above has a tip that fits the 8130/9130?
Are there any users that has tried using one or has a similar intention to go portable?

I posted here as I think there might be a bigger 8130 community than 9130 at the moment, and since 8130 and 9130 are largely similar, and 8130 does not have optimus, there might be more owners who go for the portability route.

a4paper, I would NOT recommend using a different AC Adapter. I'm sorry, but the one you have is the best and safest.

People have asked this question before and it has not turned out well. Better safe than sorry.

    Hello Guys,
I would like to ask a question regarding playing WoW on gtx 560m. I'm playing at 1080p and medium settings, when im not in a fight with mobs or w/e my fps is stable at 60 with vsync on but when im in some party and we are killing some boss for example my fps drops to 15. Any1 else experienced such issue?

Edit: I don't have even antialiasing on.

What is the concept behind raising the back of the NP8130 to have better temps? Is it because of the extra space I get when I raise it or something else?

No, but perhaps you should disable vsync. The 560M should be having no problems with WoW. Perhaps it's a network issue?

I have nice internet not dropping under 20mbit/s. I tried w/o vsync and it was even worse. I have the latest drivers from nvidia.com. My windows is relatively new only like 2 months old. Idk what is going on.

Me neither  This is a mystery to me...

It's not your GPU, because you have the best drivers. 301.42? If you have 301.42, then you might consider going back to the previous stable drivers because they're causing my GPU to crash.

    It's not your network.

It might be WoW but I'm definitely not familiar with that game.

    Could someone chime in?

How is your laptop doing on other games?

WoW has a tendency to stress any GPU. Even my DESKTOP GTX-580 drops low in certain boss fights (Ultraxion, Warlord Zon'ozz, Yor'sahj the unsleeping) my fps drops down to about 25-30fps with everything going on. It really depends how much action is going on.

I would recommend leaving vsync enabled, it really won't make a difference as your display refresh is generally 60Hz so anything above 60fps just won't matter much.

Given that laptop graphics cards, despite best efforts, can't touch their desktop namesake equivalent, they do a nice job.

See how your computer performs in some other games to for a better test to see if you are still having some issues.

Yes, I know that it has better airflow but why? Is it because of the space introduced between the laptop body and the table when I raise it?

That is exactly the reason, because of the increased space provided it allows more air to be drawn into the intake vents at the bottom of your laptop.

I noticed the same thing with my fans running more frequently and also found that actually removing the fans is the only way to really clean the dust out that builds up on the fins. The fans don't run nearly as often now.

Is it a good idea to buy an used NP8130 for cheap or buy the new NP9130 for about 400 more? How much better is the 9130 over the 8130?

Also, how does the warranty work?

Is it normal for Fn+F7 (display toggle switch) to only work one-time (changing from laptop to monitor connected through DVI port)? When I press the combination for the second time, nothing happens.

Does anyone know if VT-d is enabled by default. I know in BIOS it only gives the VT option to enable which is VT-x for CPU not IOMMU.

I hope Clevo could push an update for this feature in BIOS. This is part of the reason I got the processor and specs for this computer.

I bought a 560m to replace the 460m in my notebook. When installed the notebook boots but the display stays black. I have heard that Clevo laptops will only accept GPUs with Clevo vBIOS. Could this be the issue and can someone post a 560m vBIOS dump to flash the card with?

Regarding GPU upgrades for the P151HM (and the P151EM) here is Sager's most recent statement:

So according to Sager it is limited to 75W GPUs... Or you can make the upgrade to a 100W GPU and risk shortening the notebook's life span significantly.

You will be voiding your warranty the instant you do it, plus you will be greatly shortening the life of the laptop. It could be as short as a few days or weeks, depending on how hard you push it.

    It is seriously NOT recommended.

Thanks to everyone for the informative posts. I am replacing my malfunctioning 460m with a 560m. Both cards have a TDP of 75w. As the 560m was the standard shipping option for quite some time I am not terribly concerned with the card's compatibility. My notebook is also several months out of warranty or I wouldn't be replacing a faulty graphics card on my own dime.

For anyone looking to get a 560m off of ebay, it seems there are at least 2 versions of the 560m MXM. One with a green PCB, another with a blue PCB. The card I bought had a blue PCB and is not compatible. There is speculation that it uses a non-standard pinout. I have ordered a green PCB card and will report on the installation when it arrives.

What kind of malfunctions? After 3 replacements with the same blue-screening and glitches with my 460 I've got a formal complaint open and am trying to track down more owners who experience the same problems as me.

ok, I hate to just sort of shout out my question into the forum without having searched for possible answers first. but whenever I try to do a search, no matter at what level I get this message: "Could not find phrase 'invalid_search_query'."

Well, anyway, I wanna finally upgrade my 8130 with a SSD and get rid of the optical drive. Now, I've read that the 'regular' HDD port is SATA III and the one with the optical drive is SATA II.
I have no idea what this means exactly for my purpose except for that 'III' sounds faster/better/newer than 'II'.

My plan is to get a 256gb solid state for my most used applications and use the HDD (which is the 500gb HDD/4gb SSD option btw) mainly for storage.
Should I consider putting the SSD into slot 1 and the HDD into the optical bay?
Some basic information also on what to look for when buying a SSD would be very appreciated.

    Thanks a lot
    T

Yes, you should definitely put the SSD into the main drive slot, SATA III implies greater speeds, and if you are using a SSD then you most certainly should want to get the maximum performance out of your drive...

About selecting the SSD, you only have to check that it has the appropriate dimensions for the slot (some may be 7mm and you have to use some plastic to add the 2mm missing, if it doesn't come with it already). You should also consider the brand's reliability, and could check benchmark sites to see how the SSD you chose does compared to others (as a general tip look into Samsung 830, Intel 520, OCZ Vertex 3 and 4, Crucial M4 and Kingston HyperX).

The card used to get graphics glitches on a semi-regular basis of about once a week. The screen would get speckled with out of place pixels that got progressively worse while the GPU driver would continuously crash. Rebooting didn't fix the issue. It would only go away if the laptop was left off for an extended period of time.
Then a few weeks ago, in the middle of a game, the screen went black, fans kicked in full force, the laptop beeped several times while the keyboard lights blinked then the laptop shut down. Now I can rarely even get the laptop to post, it's the same black screen, beeps and shutdown. After opening the chassis and re-seating the card I managed to get the laptop running for half a day before it crashed while browsing the web. At that point I decided it was time to replace the card.

Yes this is exactly what has been happening to me for the past year. 3 replacemenets in already. These are either faulty cards or faulty drivers. Either way, there are way to many of us experiencing this issue. Sager refuses to acknowledge this as a widespread problem so I've filed a formal complaint in the state of WA.

SATA III is faster/newer/better. Without getting into the technical side too much, SATA III has a maximum potential data transfer speed of 6Gbp/s (Gigabits per second) and SATA II has a maximum potential data transfer speed of 3Gbp/s. So yes, it would be better to install your SSD in the SATA III port and your standard HDD in the optical drive bay. your average standard hard drive is not capable of exceeding the 3Gbp/s bandwidth.

As far as SSD choices, My general recommendation is to check out sites like newegg.com to see which drives have the highest rating/reviews.
The short, easier answer is to check those drives isrnick listed, most of those drives should be just fine.

Yes, definitely. It is a 75W GPU.
