software / bios compatibility is unknown, but electrical / physical compatibility is a given. just not sure if the heatsinks of the 6970M would align perfectly with the 5 series card. u can checkout the PCB layouts online though and see if there are any major differences...
-
The PCB's look very similar, however the BIOS might need to be flashed, as you said. I hope baking the 6970M will revive it though, as the performance upgrade from the 5870M is massive -
Wow, this reply system bugs out on me :S Double posts every time.

yeah i have the same problem

Guys, I still own a Sager 8150 notebook and I think my internal Network Card (LAN) is broken.
It's a Jmicron 25x/26x card and since one week I get very low transfer speeds (low throughput). Sometimes it doesn't work at all.
Is it possible to switch it with a new one or is it soldered to the mainboard?
Thanks -
its part of the mobo, unfortunately....have u checked different network cables and networks too, to make sure its the LAN controller´s fault?
-
Yeah, I have tried different cables LANs etc.
Sometimes it works but even when it works I can't hit more than 50MB/s throughput.
Once I attach a USB Gigabit Adapter speeds go over 100MB/s.
Strange. I might go for the USB Adapter. -
hmm could be a loose connection or smth...well as long as ure fine with the usb adapter its all good

if ure going for drivers, u might also check station-drivers.com for the respective LAN adapter
theyll definitely have the latest driver version for ur model.

Hi, I just bought a Vision NB2590, a P150HM equivalent. It has a glossy screen, however I want to know if it uses the 95% gamut panel, is it possible to check this, without disassembling the laptop?
-
sure thing: u can use hwinfo to check the display model and then search for the display specs on panellook.com
-
It's a LP156WF1-TLE1, no idea if that is any good, can't find much info about it :S
-
then apparently u didnt look hard enough
http://www.panelook.com/LP156WF1-TLE1_LG Display_15.6_LCM_overview_5705.html
as i said, just search for the model number on panelook.com, took me all of 10 secondsenjoy!
edit: also, according to this link, its 65% gamut: http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1442281 -
Thanks!
Now I'm considering whether to replace it with a AUO panel.jaybee83 likes this. -
With an USB Gigabit adapter it works fine... -
If anyone with hdmi functioning on their 7970m could dump their vbios I'd truly appreciate it
-
as far as i remember theres only been like 1 or 2 users with functioning HDMI using a 7970M in an HM machine. and that was years ago, so good luck finding them...
-
True that as it seems that everyone else has already jumped ship to the newer models. Probably have to keep my eyes open for a cheap replacement shell with fully functional ports such as em or sm or maybe a dell precision series model.
-
well i would have gladly sticked to my beloved P150HM, but it crapped out on me and wouldnt have been worth it to repair it anymore... so sold off the parts and didnt look back
was one hell of a machine though!
btw, impressive clocks u got there on your 7970MLast edited: Feb 7, 2015 -

Any later model would let you jump to the 9xx series which is the level of upgrade you want really.
-
If someone is interested for having his p150hm or p170hm encrypted hdd or ssd (SED) I give you a link with how to.
Hardware encryption is faster than software and all new ssd support self encryption (SED). But Clevo bios does not support hard drive password (wich is necessary for sed). So these are the instructions to add an ahci security extension to bios so enable hardware encryption.

nice, good info
thx for that!

Some cheaper drives don't have hardware encryption, just double check first!

7970m v1.2 (anyone know who/where to find one of these beasties)?
Or other upgrade options for a p150hm. -
Has anyone had problem with the Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller(Code 10)?
I usually have to reboot multiple>10 times at the minimum, to get restored functionality to the usb 3.0 ports. I have tried reinstalling drivers from sager, reformatting win7 64-bit, and I just updated the bios to 815vbv14s yet the problem still persists. Any ideas? -
Also make sure u have the latest firmware and drivers installed, check station-drivers.com for that -
But nvidia removed software oc from the latest drivers so 7970m seems like the more attractive option of the two to me, regardless of the hdmi issue.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
They removed it for maxwell (9xx series and the 840M-860M) only.
-
meaker is right, the 680M / 780M / 880M is still ocable with the most current drivers, no problems there
so ure safe to go either way, 7970M or 680M!

Guys how the heck do I activate Bluetooth on my 8150? (want to pair a Bluetooth keyboard and don't know how.)
I have the Intel 6300 Wifi Card but can't find any software to pair devices.
thanks -
might be a stupid question but....does the 6300 even have bluetooth? doesnt look like it from the specs on intel's website....
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
You're right. The 6300 does not have bluetooth but I thought the 8150 has an integrated adapter.I can even activate the power for it under BIOS. Strange...
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Pretty sure the 8150 didn't have a separate BT module. Only the SLI setup at that time, model number is failing me, had that.
-
Ok... strange. I know I used it in the past.
Must have been with the Wifi card I ordered with. The 6300 I got 2 years after I bought the notebook. -
2 days ago my 150HM torn to brick...
He was 4 year old , and 2 time RMA . but now it seams the end ( HawkForce.de seams to be gone)...
Just due webbing in 20-30 min from power up he make a "click" - and die.
if someone need a parts - let me know .
next day update: in a Media Markt - biggest electronic shop assistant tell me : U better by this model Aser the VGA card number is doesn't matter . and show me a GT840M 2GBinstead of looking GTX 970M 3-4GB
And other "PC specialist " start to argue about possibility 8GB VRAM
..........Last edited: Mar 18, 2015 -
oh boy, i know exactly how u feel buddy, thats how mine died on me as well.... seems like the age of the P150HM is slowly but surely coming to an end
was a hell of a machine!
-
yep , only wondering -how is 12 years old Aser and almost 15 years old Dell from cheap store is continue working .........
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Does it respond at all when you try and power it on?
-
unlikely is not. it was just a "click" sound - different then HDD or some mechanical system sounds . (when i was 15 years ,some familiar sound was from burn chip ) .....totally a brick .and AC adapter now is blinking about 1time/sec at 20-30% brightens when i connect laptop..
i have read about "oven trick" - may be i gonna try it .Last edited: Mar 18, 2015 -
now i have check it again . "take out 3 x SODIMM and replace one to other slot, remove ODD bracket ,remove SSD , replace a CMOS battery -no magic .... all the same .
-

Does removing the GPU change the behaviour of the start up at all?
-
no,i wasn't to remove a GPU. i send it to " analyse " in to local repair company . just 20 euro... will see in a monday .
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
While the system can't run without a gpu it will still power on and react.
A good way to test if the gpu is now shorting is if removing the gpu makes it react to a power button press properly after the gpu is removed.
That's why I asked. Hopefully they find the issue. -
URRAAAAY!! my P150HM is fixed! the problem was in a power chip on a board and 2 capacitors!! most important for me - it was fast!! and i don't need anymore to buy a new notebook with almost same performance for 2 000 !!! thanks to all for replays !
Mr Najsman and jaybee83 like this. -
nice, id say thats a cheap/reliable/efficient repair shop u got urself there

if someone in future need a notebook service in Amsterdam - Office4All. they have also web,but i don't make s advertising ...

I love mine like on day one. Still using the same hw/os for almost 4 years now. Works pretty well, but from time to time i find myself lurking for spare parts, especially gpus, since those reports about burned 6970s started to appear.
It´s good to hear that some of those machines are still in use and working!
Thumbs up to all (former) P150HM users!

I just replaced a fried 6990m with a new 680 a few months ago, so I would like to repair this if possible - what exactly did they do to fix yours...replace the systemboard, or what part? I can't imagine many places would be soldering/desoldering faulty chips anymore?Last edited: Apr 6, 2015 -
But it´s an old champ and I´m in the market for something faster.jaybee83 likes this.
