Using Win10 on my Clevo P150EM.

    Issues:
    - I dont have Win10 drivers for the touchpad.
    - The computer doesn´t turn off. I select "turn off" in Windows and all light except the light on the power button is turned off. I have to manually turn it off by pressing power button for a few seconds.

hi gang! NP8150 user here, had this baby for like 5 years now :)
anyways, about a year ago my 6970M video card fried when my kids left Minecraft running for 4 hours; GPU was OK but the memory on board went FUBAR; i could still see partial video over DVI and HDMI but the screen was black. fast forward to few days ago, i ordered a replacement nVidia 560M from Sager, doubled my RAM to 16GB and installed 240GB SSD from SanDisk in place of the 7200RPM drive... holly mother of God is that thing flying again! basically $400 in upgrades and my 5-yo laptop is back to being top of the line again :) well maybe except video but i don't play games anymore. it's running i7 2GHz btw.

love that machine! hope the new video card lasts...

a bit late, but better than never: check windows energy profiles, specifically the option to choose what pressing the power button does, but also the generic shutdown sequence. at stock, win10 only goes into some sort of hibenation type crap, so u explicitly need to tell it to properly shut down :)

do u have the p150em or p150hm? maybe u posted in the wrong owners lounge here :) in any case, try the stock touchpad drivers available on the clevo page or on the website of your reseller where u got the machine from. interestingly, touchpad drivers work best on clevos when left alone at stock :D

@mvorbrodt: good job buddy, make that thing last as long as possible! i literally loved that machine to death and i would still be sporting it nowadays, hadnt it been for the multiple and total failure of several components at the same time, just too expensive to replace everything :(

reading though a lot of the posts here it appears to be a common occurrence to burn out the video card. why is that?

Well people do tend to come on here when they have issues for one ;)

But notebooks GPUs do tend to run hotter with a more constrained power system meaning that any weaknesses are more likely to show up. The same for any soldering.

the I7 that my laptop comes with has on chip Intel HD Graphics 3000 right?

so what would happen if i pulled out the video card from the MXM slot? would it fall back on the integrated video card inside the CPU?

nope, the laptop would just not boot :) the intel igpu is physically not connected to any display output, thus rendering it useless in the HM series

Even those with the IGP enabled did not let you do it either, the EC expects a signal from the GPU.

Can a TPM module be installed in NP8150? I hate the idea of booting my laptop from a USB stick to enable boot drive crypto :(

Hey, I'm thinking about upgrading my HDD to an SSD on my NP8150. Does it need a special caddy or can I just unplug the current HDD and insert the new SSD?

pretty much plug n play, u might just need some spacers since the ssd will most likely be 7mm in width instead of the 9.5mm of your hdd :)

You can always use blutak as a temporary support but proper spacers are fairly easy to find.

What do you mean only when first open? Mine stays on 100% while I have Task Manager up? Is your doing the same thing? Or do you mean your 100% goes away after time?

When you do first install windows 10 there will be a fair amount of updates and other tasks going on in the background. That should pass after a short time.

EDIT: After more googling it seems like we have a DVI-I port which is capable of 144hz. And the GTX 670M is also capable! Can anyone confirm?

    I'm still running the Clevo P150HM. I have a GTX 670M.
I'm looking at buying a 144hz monitor, but just read about having to use display port or DVI-D.

Is the DVI port on this laptop DVI-D? If not, will an HDMI > Display port or HDMI > DVI-D allow me to get 144hz? Or is it new computer time :/

I would maybe take a look at what others have sold similar models in the marketplace forum, to get an idea of a going rate.

Recently got one of these laptops (well its an NP8130, but this lounge seems a lot more active than that one).

Anyways, is ebay the best place to get a new/better GPU? Not sure how well the 560m will game. I don't have a problem playing at low settings, but it would be nice to get something better eventually (assuming I can get a decent clevo 6xxm card when I have the money).

Also any news on these laptops being able to handle cards newer than the 6xx series? I assume it would have been posted if it was possible, but figured I would ask.

    Thanks!

7970M / 680M are still the most powerful cards these machines can take. make sure u have the 180W psu when u decide to upgrade, iirc the NP8130 came with a weaker psu (120/150w?). @Prema has been tinkering with the 900M series to make them compatible with the HM series, but its still an unknown when hell find the time and necessary spare parts to complete that project.

Thanks! I would love to get a 9xxM series card, but if I can't no big deal, the 680m would be more than enough for what I would like to do with the laptop.

    Yea, I don't really want to drop ~$300 on a 680m, but if I could get back ~$50+ for the 560m, I don't think it would be too bad. ~$550 for a np8130 + better psu + 680m.

Also, are the nvidia heatsinks compatible with each other?

Are there any cards that aren't clevo cards that would work? There are some pretty cheap quadro K4000M's on ebay (~$150), but they have a dell vbios. Is it possible to mod the bios w/o a dell laptop? The K4kM would be perfect for me as it is cheap and would be more than enough for the games I play.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NVIDIA-Quad...097481?hash=item2eee55d289:g:yl0AAOSw0HVWAODb

    Thanks for all the help!

So far, I found some info that could be usefull for me:

I recently bought a gtx 670m to replace a dead gtx 485m from for my sager np8150 and I am having a hard time getting it going. When I turn the computer on it starts up like normal but after a few seconds it start to beep every few seconds and the 3 lights by the power button flash with the beeps. It will turn off after about 10-15 seconds. Anyone have an idea about what could be causing this problem? I thought it may have been the ec/bios so I flashed to the latest version I could find but nothing changed.

I bought the card from eurocom under the sager/clevo gpu upgrades so I would assume that it is a clevo card. Is there anyway to tell by looking at the card?

I updated to the most recent version that I could find on this forum in the bios/ec thread for my laptop. I am not sure if that is the most recent or not. I probably could shoot sager an email to find out.

I am running the 1.01.14 BIOS.

The system is not getting temperature information from the card due to a Vbios mis-match and is shutting down the system as a precaution.

I suggest contacting Eurocom and asking them for help.

Please, can anyone tell me whether this model has an antenna preparation even if it originally has been ordered without Wi-Fi?

Such that a Wi-Fi card can be thrown in in order to get Wi-Fi functionality?
