The BisonCam should have a program which has settings that can be adjusted to suit your liking.

Find the program called Webcam.exe, and after loading it up, a screen of the webcam should appear on your screen. Select Options -> Video Capture Filter then adjust the settings. Hopefully this will help improve quality or rather, your black and white issue.

    Hey LBJade,

I will be getting my sager 8150 with the 580m tomorrow. I have been eagerly waiting for this thing for a while now. But now I am am having certain concerns and was really hoping you could clear them for me.

There is a review of the gtx 580m that was posted today at notebookcheck.net: Review Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M Graphic Card - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

In this article, this is what they had to say abt noise and temps :

"Potential buyers need to check a few features before making their purchase. Users will be confronted by a high noise emission (very distracting) unless the manufacturer of the laptop invents an ingenious cooling system. The temperature emissions of the card are also very high, and the cooling system will have to turn up to the maximum to keep the graphic card temperatures from going too high."

This really has me worried. In their review of the gtx 485m, they said "The entire system's noise level is now at an acceptable 39 dB(A) up to a very present 45.2 dB(A) depending on the demanded performance."

How loud is it actually? is it really loud enough to be distracting while playing graphic intensive games like tw2??

Thanks in advance for your help.

That's odd, because nVidia put a better thermal design on the card. At idle my 580m's fan produces very little noise, because it usually idles at 35-40C. Under high load (furmark) it does get to about 80C or so, so the fan does make a lot of noise but it's what you'd expect from playing a game on a laptop. Perhaps it would be distracting if you were relying on the internal speakers, but put on some headphones and you'd be fine. That's par for the course though for gaming laptops. :)

Even with the calibrations, the quality that the cam produces isn't so great. I went out and purchased an external cam to satisfy my needs.

So 80C is not 91C as notebookcheck stated, right? did you try to OC your card? also what if you use Fn+1 during gaming does it get below 80C?

i think's the cam is OK (actually i have the 8170, but i think the camera is the same), but i guess a lot depends on what you are used to. still, i was looking around to see whether there might be improved drivers for the cam (from what i understand, bisoncam is only a cam software, but the current driver is a generic microsoft driver), but haven't found anything yet.

Don't worry too much about the pictures...they are just stock pictures. Newmode will get you the right one if you specify your model. They are great people there.

If you are worried about the bezel (face plate) you will use the one from your P150, not the stock one that comes with it. You will also need to use the mounting bracket from your optical drive in your P150. Instructions can be found at http://newmodeus.com/pics/OBHD/OBHD-Faceplate-Installation-Guide.pdf

I'm not sure what happened, but I ordered a caddy from Newmode of the same model that I had purchased from them last year. However, it appears as though they changed something because they inexplicably hardwired a drive-activity LED from the circuit board to the faceplate. As such, I would not be able to remove the stock faceplate without having to cut the wires or otherwise damage the caddy. Fortunately, Newmode got back to me right away and will take it back for a refund, but still.

    Check this out:

What brand/model of enclosure do you have? The NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 controller this notebook uses can have compatibility issues with hard drive enclosures that use a JMicron chipset. You can download a firmware update for the enclosure here. If that doesn't work or your enclosure is not a JMicron chipset, you might need to replace it. The one I use is from Siig and it works great.

so you mean not all USB 3.0 enclosure is not compatible to our USB 3.0 ports? Is the western digital passports with 3.0 compatible? Anyway what is your transfer speed in using the 3.0? coz i transfered a file and i can see its only 33 - 60mb /s. Its just like 2.0?! anyway im returning the enclosure. Also another issue is that the usb 2.0 beside it is not working if i connected the 3.0. I'm thinking 3.0 is consuming more power than the 2.0?

It looks like you have a couple problems going on here. You should be able to use all your USB ports without any issue. I have my external hard drive connected via USB 3.0 and a hub with a mouse, keyboard, and printer connected to USB 2.0.

You could very well have a defective hard drive/enclosure and this is why you can't use it with other USB devices connected. You also seem to be confusing an external hard drive with an enclosure. An external hard drive is packaged by the manufacturer as such. An enclosure is just the shell, and you provide your own hard drive. For my setup, I use the latter. I have a Siig enclosure with a desktop Western Digital Caviar Blue hard drive contained therein.

Again, try a different enclosure or external hard drive first. If you're still having problems, then there might be something deeper going on.

yeah i have the same set up with you, i bought only the enclosure and i transferred my WD passport HD to it. because my WD is the old model which dont support 3.0. im thinking you may be right the enclosure i bought is not compatible and does not have an updated firmware. its a china made called USBX, i visit their site written on the box but site cannot be found...

i was hoping someone can confirm the new WD passports with 3.0 caompatibility is working as it is in our machine?

Hello, I'm new to the sager notebooks.

I have a question about the cooling of this 8150 laptop. How efficient is the cooling? I'm planning on buying this laptop when the new ati 6990 comes out, but I wanted to know if it can keep that 6990 cool enough when gaming. I also wanted to know under what ambient temperature is everyone running their laptop at? I'm always in areas where it's mostly in the mid 30s - mid 40s Celsius range. If I were to get IC diamond paste, would it be enough to keep the laptop cool enough to not damage it when I game. I want to keep the laptop running for at least 3 years, but I'm afraid using this laptop under the conditions i'm in wouldn't allow me to keep it running that long.

The cooling is great for a notebook of it's form factor. CPU idle temps are usually around 40C, with GPU roughly the same. Temps under load tend to hover betwen 70-80C for most people.

IC Diamond can drop overall temps around 6C give or take a few. For extreme gamers or those that use the machine in higher ambient temps, it's useful.

The drivers on Clevo's site may not be the most current, but they'll work without modification. Drivers direct from Nvidia will be more current but may require a modded INF to work on Clevo machines. The newer drivers may also be less stable, especially those in Beta, but they'll also typically have performance boosts in new games.

Power Notebooks says that P150HM don't support 1TB disk. Is that so? I have ordered mine with 1TB disk (rjtech.com)...

What's the difference between Sager P150 and Clevo P150?

That's way too hot. I get around 80c max at 22c ambient. Try proping up the rear of the laptop to allow for more air flow.

How old is your Sager NP8150?

Did it always run that hot?

If not, then I would recommend cleaning it. Open up the bottom and using a compressed air can blow out all of the dust and gunk in there. Just be sure to never tilt the can...only tilt the laptop. This way the can won't blow out liquid and ruin your laptop.

    Hi all!

I just purchased my lovely new P150HM but have found out that my usb 3.0 ports don't work at all.
I have tried the drivers that came with the laptop, drivers from myth on these forums, and nothing has changed.
Nothing I plug into them gets recognised.

The drivers on the cd say that no device is found, and the usb 3.0 host controller from myth installs but then after a restart, says cannot be found.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Otherwise its a perfect laptop....oh and the fact that my bluetooth mouse won't connect to it either (stupid microsoft mouse).

    K. Thought that the mainboard needed to have a special type of hardware to encrypt C.

I'm receiving my p150 tomorrow. Will it work with 1tb drive?

The mainboard needs a TPM (Trusted Platform Module) to allow you to use bitlocker without an external key. Otherwise, you have to use a USB key to unlock it.

BitLocker Drive Encryption - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Paladin44 pointed out, Truecrypt will let you run encryption on the whole drive without needing the TPM or a USB key.

No, the P150HM doesn't. They're not particularly common, except in business machines. You'd have to install Ultimate and do a quick policy change with gpedit.msc > computer configuration > administrative tools > Windows components > Bitlocker drive encryption > operating system drives > require additional authentication, enable.

Then you can run Bitlocker and set up a USB drive as the decrypting medium (and save the Bitlocker recovery key on an external drive/server).

(I'm running it now on my P150HM because I haven't had time to do it since I bought it - so the above is step by step how it works. The encryption process is time intensive though, and can take quite a while. You may also want to encrypt any other drives in the system if you have more than one)

Truecrypt is a bit easier to run. It edits the MBR to point to a minimal self extracting file which lets it validate the password. After the password is validated, it can begin the on-the-fly decryption (there's more to it, but it doesn't rely on external mediums or a TPM like Bitlocker does)

EDIT: Also, make extremely sure you don't lose that recovery key that Bitlocker creates. If you do any bios changes or major Windows Updates, it may not let you log back in without it. I locked myself out of an OS once when I lost that key and had to reformat because it wouldn't boot without the recovery key :) )

Received my P150 today. It's sooo fast :)

I installed Win7 Ultimate (upgrade) on it.
Can I edit the registry (regedit) so that I can enter the serial? It didn't accept the serial during install since it was a upgrade key. (The key have never been used)

Do you use the THX software? When I open the THX software I get: "The current selected audio is disabled, not present, not supportes by the application, or has unplugged jack connection. Do you want to select another audio device now?"

    I click yes:

"There is no supported audio device avaible"

What am I missing? I have installed realtek audio drivers...
