Stock 6990M's Vantage GPU score is around 13,500. Overclocked, it's near 16,000.

Hi guys, it's becoming increasingly clear that pretty much all of the 95% gamut (matte only?) screens shipped within the past few months are defective with a red-on-black ghosting problem.

    Please test.

From max temp of 65C to 59C :) (Using BurnInTest Maximum CPU test)
Using i7-2720qm 8mb cache ES (enginering sample)

Maximum GPU temp: 91C (Using Furmark, fullHD fullscreen test).

I think the temp before the heatsinks was 95

If this is true, for 4.47 USD and 4-6 degrees cooler, it seems like a no-brainer upgrade to me! :) They fit in perfectly underneath the plastic cover, right? No mods needed to the casing?

    I've used these before,

    they do work really well.

They have thermal tape on them, but can be a mess to rip them off... they stick so well that you have to use a knife or something. :D

guys my shader temp goes 91 after a vantage run at 800 1000.is that too high??maybe it's getting too hot due to misplaced thermal pads???room temp is 30.my idle temp is 44-45.and full load goes 82.can u post some shader temps???thx..

edit:also can someone post a pic of their 6970m heatsink with the thermal pads???

has anyone encountered a Constant low hiss/static no matter if the speakers are on or off and not volume dependent? also it really hard to hear it only if the room is silent.

it's perfectly normal! you don't have to worry at all, that's for sure :)

the major impact on the component temps relies on the room temps, with 30C you could easily hit 100C on shaders with that OC. Usually people bench under 20-25C room temps conditions, so substract 10C from what you get and it feels like a pretty damn good result

100% sure, no doubts about that) i see you have IC Diamond, that's one of the best pastes out there, so if you configured your system with custom TIM job you're totally fine. You see, that's pretty heavy for the system to be stressed at 30C room temps, try to bench at 20-25C and you have much proper results ;)

The only thing that could really help is to use thermal paste on GPU memory chips instead of pads (you can gain another 5-10C off), but its pretty messy and non-bleeding paste is a must like tuniq tx-4!

I got my new laptop in my sig today ^_^. Everything is going smoothly apart from the silly decision to put rubber coating on the touch pad. I am gonna be unhappy about that for years to come I think. I did know about it before ordering just didn't know how much I was going to hate it until now. Thank god for mice.

I'm not sure if adding those small heatsinks on the GPU and CPU heatpipes is a good idea. If they really do dissipate some heat, it will be inside of the case, instead of being blown away by the fans. There are reasons other than the price, why there's no such fins on the standard heatsinks.
Also, the ones on the RAM are completely useless. The way you installed them, there's not enough surface contact to transfer heat from the chips. You want the heatsink to have the largest surface possible in contact with the chip.

yeah, it might help! you can try some of these or these! I'd suggest you to use 1.5mm thick pad (1mm at minimum) otherwise it might not even touch the heatsink and result in even higher temps. There should be a proper contact between the surfaces and the pads shrink under the pressure

Did you try removing the ram?

I thought the same but then it turned out to be the RAM, not the CPU.

And mine failed all those that you ran.
