That burns =[. It's the only updgrade thing option I wanted for the HM and I was set. I should just waited a little longer for the EM version but ah well. Guess I'll go on ebay for another set of the stickers -.-

I know some people like jaybee have been able to upgrade to the 7970.
But is there someone who has successfully upgraded to a 680m?

Yup, and take a look at the thread linked in LaptopNut's sig (via the first link above) for information about the modded INF file you will need for the driver. The performance you get from the 680m at the given temperature is truly the most significant upgrade I've seen from a new GPU family in a while.

    Hello guys,

    I'm considering buying this lappy (used) with 2720QM, 8GB, 1080p, 580M, bluray, noHDD @ 850€

Do you think it's a good price considering that I'm in Italy (with only one Clevo reseller) ?

Are Sager bios/EC flashable on every PH150M machine?
Any particular problem/flow I've to consider?

Thanks a lot for the help and sorry for the intrusion xD

id say its fine, try to press the price a bit further cuz of the missing HDD ;)

as for the BIOS/EC, make sure to only use the ones designated for P150HM, since P150EM onces wouldnt be compatible :)

    cheers

Just to summarize cause I'm lacking time to read all the huge thread xD :
Which is the difference between P150HM, P150EM and P151HM ?

Wich would be a good HDD choice (750GB) ?

    Thanks

HM series: last gen (sandy bridge + HM65/67 chipsets)
EM series: current gen (Ivy Bridge + HM77 chipsets)

P150 series: support 100W highend GPUs like 6970M/6990M/485M/580M/675M/7970M/680M, have rubberized finish, backlit keyboard (EM series only) and a 180W PSU
P151 series: support up to 75W GPUs like 560M/660M etc., no rubberized finish (at least the HM series afaik), no backlit keyboard, 120W PSU

a good HDD choice would be a SSD :) recommendable are crucial m4, samsung 830, intel 520, plextor M3P/M5P series, OCZ vertex 4

    cheers

considering that the laptop is two years old i think the price is a little high. this is also considering us pricing. i know resellers in europe usually sell sagers higher due to tax considerations. but since youre getting a two year old used machine with some missing parts, and taking somewhat of a risk doing so, id say ask for a lower price.

how can it be two years old? sandy bridge came out in april 2011 (after the chipset recall) and the 580m sometime during summer 2011. its barely over a year old buddy :)

It was bought in june 2011 from Santech (the only italian Clevo reseller) for 1555€ with 6970M. He spent 400€ for the 580M upgrade and 200€ for SSD (wich I don't mind as of now, that's why I've asked to sell without it)..

    It's 850 shipped, I'll ask 800 maybe :)

Thanking you very much for sharing your knowledge with me, I'd ask: Mobos of HM and EM are interchangable in the chassis of P150HM?
Especially is possible to fix the backlit keyboard from EM onto the HM?

On my M570RU I still have a modded Sager EC firmware to lower the rpm wich the fan start with..Is it still possible to flash Sager updates?

Sorry for the many questions xD

no problem thats what were here for :p

HM and EM mobos are not interchangeable, since the connection layout is different. it might be possible to mod the HM chassis in order to fit in an EM mobo, but then it would probably be cheaper and less of a hassle to go with an EM barebone right away. HM series is not upgradeable with a backlit keyboard, since its dimensions are a bit too large to fit in the HM chassis. aside from that, the HM mobo doesnt provide the necessary connector in order to power the keyboard LEDs.

as to the EC and fan table: to my knowledge it hasn´t been possible yet to mod it, since Clevo made sure to completely lock down the BIOS/EC in its newer models...

    cheers

    Hey guys,

i was just wondering if any of you is running windows 8 on one of our wonderful p150hm. And for the drivers, did Intel, Realtek etc. release win8-ready drivers yet? (Besides catalyst, which is reportedly win8-ready)

    thanks

I have Win 8 Pro x64 and all works fine except BT. It installed without error but I don't see any icons, I cannot connect any BT device, I just see it on installed hardware. I used all drivers from windows update and rest of them installed from here - latest ones for Win7.. OH and also fingerprint reader doesn't work right. The program and driver installed OK but after windows starts up there is 2 error windows about the program ended with error.

Everything else works just fine and also WIN8 is much faster than WIN7. Can't wait for original drivers for it.

    small secret after Win8Pro installed:
    open elevated command prompt and....
    KMS

hahaha nice one :p but lucky me i have a university license that is still good for another 4 years ;)

in what way is win8 faster than win7? gimme some details to sweeten the time until my ssd arrives :p

thing with the fingerprint reader sucks, i use it pretty much every time to log on to windows. hope the drivers will be updated for that soon! BT on the other hand doesnt really concern me, never use it anyways...

well, "faster" means that all work with this new edition is faster... might be just because fresh install but i think that everything i click just responds as it should be from beginning. all programs load first time slowly as on win7 but second time they open almost instantly... for example when u start Word, after restart it loads about 3 sec, u can see that yellow square LOADING but second time u don't even see that. it goes straight to page where u write.... and all progs are like that. I enjoy specially games, when u load them second time, they are so much faster that i almost thing i have ssd. but i don't :) and also all menus, metro start.... i hated that when it first time came up on RC.... but now? i just love it. once u get used to it... it was just the best step that microsoft made.... old start menu from win95 or 98 is just too old, prehistoric... this new gui us totally ... everything on place, we just have to get used to it... and all items in right places, they also make this edition faster, less clicks etc... i wish i would have touch screen.... ;-) that's about it.

I need to replace the video cable that goes from my motherboard to my monitor. On my first attempt, I got the keyboard off and I was working on the palm rest, but I could not for the life of me get the palm rest to pop off. The area that would not come off was at the back, where the exhaust comes out. Is there some sort of trick to getting the palm rest completely off? Anyone know of a good website that has details about disassembling the NP8150?

@Sasquatch202, look for the P150HM service manual, that is the closest thing to an assembly guide that we have.

Pretty sure you can just wiggle the palm rest out (make sure the cables underneath it are disconnected and double check all of the screws are also out).

Can you test loading speeds on something that takes longer to load like a game? That would give us a better idea of how fast the difference is.

No please don't, best you can have is the bios from a p170hm but even that is a risk not worth taking in most cases.

Does anyone know if the stock wireless card (edit. rtl8188ce) has the bluetooth module integrated in it?
I'm deciding between an intel 6235 and a 6200 for upgrade, that's why I ask.

    Haha

Well still you can burn your CD or make a copy of your W8 into a ISO file (you'll figure something out) either way, I wouldn't recommend jumping on the W8 train right away.. bugs are to occur, especially with a 7970M and a P150HM +A LOT OF GAMES XD

hahaha thx for the heads-up :) but no worries, everything runs smoothly so far. luckily im just playing borderlands at the moment and that runs without a hitch. also, usb3 speeds have doubled ever since i started using the win8 microsoft drivers instead of the renesas ones :p all other drivers work as well, including the fingerprint sensor and hotkey tool :)
only thing that was bugging me was the friggin missing start button! what the hell was microsoft thinking???? i for one use it like ALL the time. so i just purchased start8 for 4.99 and now im a happy camper indeed haha ;)
btw,the speed is insane...of course my new ssd also takes its part in it,but hell,i now have like HALF the boot time compared to my old ssd! :D

For all those who want to upgrade their P15xHM to P15xEM.
Do not crossflash P15xHM with the BIOS from P15xEM!
The only and the cheapest way is the P15xHM hardware upgrade to P151EM. Only need to replace:
    -main board V6.0+ P151EM1: 6-77-P15E0-D06A-1
    -bootom case module P150EM: 6-39-P15E3-012

how does look like a start screen of that program? something like that? 1.jpg
I used original Fingerprint software from CD, even the newest from here, all the same result for WIN8 - error and non working program. About week ago windows update gave me new driver for fingerprint but software still did not work. Today I found C:\Program Files\AuthenTec\TCFMA\ufma.exe which moved me to uFMA where I downloaded the Suite. It works well since then.

EDIT: Forget it... I manage to fix it. Uninstalled the drivers from safe mode and reinstalled them. Weird it worked the same time as I did the same but not under safe mode.

Guys, I have a strange problem since a couple of hours.

For the last 6 months my Sager 8150 (GTX485M) was conected via HDMI to a Dell U2312HM and it worked fine.
30min ago the Dell Display turned balck and entered powe saving mode. I have tried everything but it seems no signal is going to the external display over DVI.

    What I have tried:
Sager conected via HDMI to a TV: works fine
Dell Display conected through VGA to another notebook: works fine.

I have installed the latest Geforce Drivers still no success.

Any advise what else I could try? Not sure if it's an issue with the Dell Display or with the Sager 485M

Somebody got Windows 8 RTM on our P150HM up and running? At least for me it works but i can't increase/decrease my brightness, with and without hotkey it never works and it's a bit annoying. Thats the only reason i installed Win7 now cause it sucks a bit when i have to work on battery.

ive got win8 rtm on my system, havent checked the brightness yet. lemme get back to you on that! ;)

huh, seems ure right! brightness control doesnt work. it looks like win8 just happens to have the same keyboard shortcut for the brightness control, since there is a win8 style graphical overlay over the hotkey one. maybe these two have a conflict with each other? or rather the EC controlled keyboard shortcut and the win8 software function?

anyway, the automatic brightness control still works tho, e.g. when ure running on battery / when the battery runs low / switch to powersaving mode.

Have you guys tried adjusting it with the windows settings? It'd be a pain to go into the power settings every time you want to adjust brightness, but I see that as a possible work around for the time being. If the Auto brightness on battery works, modifying the power plan should work as well.

works for me as normal in WIN8 as it was win7.... using Fn+F8(F9) or Control Center v6.0045. No problem at all. with power plug or just battery. Works just fine....

I also have the brightness problem in windows 8.
While W8 is booting I can change the brightness, but once the login screen pop ups it's over.
W8's own indicator slider changes value, but the hotkey program ones keep the same value.

I re-installed both the GPU driver (12.11b4, upgraded to 7970M) and the clevo hotkey driver.

Anyone else has/had the same issue?
