Anyone had issues with the Gigabit ethernet card on the Clevo P170HM, for some reason it has got unstuck somehow.... the computer detects the netcard as perfect... windows status: no issues dectected...

however when i plug in a network cable, nothing happens.... it cant detect the cable!

any way to reach the onboard ethernet card to see if it has got loose or something? or anyone know what might be wrong who has experienced this before :)

If Windows 7 detects your card, but not the cable, it may be your cable. Have you tried another one?

Well its not the cable, its the frame in which you put the cable into... that has got loose i think... so when i insert the cable end into the frame on the side of the notebook... it doesnt connect fully...

At least thats what i think... i dont really know what it could be, if the motherboard detects the ethernet card, but nothing happens when plugging in the cables!

Better go get myself an USB one then :)

Hey guys, i have a problem. I think there's something wrong with my CPU, it keeps jumping to 100% usage (entire notebook lags) then back to 15-25% (normal) and i don't know what i can do to fix it. Any ideas on how to check if there's something wrong with the CPU? (I have a Intel Core i7 2720QM)

Have you tried a clean windows installation again?

Ive had that issue when i just got my notebook, it started occuring after 14 days... when my CPU started working on 100% without me having any programs running... i found out some malware/virus stuff did it...

I found it on the task manager, svchost.exe was pushing 100%, but it was a fake one... there is normally a lot of these running from windows itself... but this one was something else, with the same name in the task manager...

So try to check out what programs are running in the task manager, and see if its a single program pushing ur CPU to the limit! then block it on reboots, or format the computer!

Task manager doesn't show anything unusual, i was hoping to fix this without having to format :s. I've had lots of freezing issues in the past, i managed to fix that with firmware updates to the SSD, im abit afraid that if i format windows, the freezes will return.

It's most likely not your CPU that's the problem, it's either going to be software hogging up the CPU, or you're running in power saver mode and your processor is downclocked. Are you running AV software? There have been reports that Norton and some others cause random lag like that.

Do you have the profile file for it already? If so, go to Control Panel > Color Management > Add > Browse. Select your profile, and add it in. Check the box for "use my settings", select the profile from the list, then "set as default profile". It should take effect on every reboot that way.

    Hello!
    1. Does Clevo P170HM whitelist for wi-fi card? I want to put Ralink RT3090BC4 or Ralink RT3592BC8 (need a Bluetooth).
    2. Intel 6230 connects unstable. Do not want to connect to the Zyxel Keenetic giga on 802.11n, only 802.11g (when disable 802.11n). Connects to 802.11n (300 Mb/s) only after reinstalling drivers, but only until you reboot the laptop. Drivers for the Intel 6230 tried different. Distance to Keenetic 3 meters.
    3. Why do Fn + F12 does not turn off Bluetooth? The lamp is turned off, and Bluetooth is active.

    1. No, there is no whitelist. Any WiFi card that fits should work (assuming you have drivers for it).

    2. You can force it to connect at 802.11g by going through control panel > network and sharing center > change adapter settings > right click the WiFi, properties > configure > advanced > 802.11n mode, disabled. What do you mean your connection is "unstable"? I've seen complaints with the Intel cards having poor connections specifically to Zyxel N routers before, but hardly any others. I wonder if it's a router issue.

    3. That should disable it. How you can tell that the bluetooth is still active? Can other devices still connect?

    1. OK!
    2. Yes, I did it. I mean "unstable" - reinstalled the driver - a good connection (N, 300Mb/s), reboot the laptop - there is no connection. I think the problem in a system of energy saving wi-fi card Intel 6230. How to disable it?
    3. I can connect to any device that has enabled Bluetooth.

    Question guys:
I have been considering a p170hm here for a while and just as I get the money together, it looks like sager/clevo has the line pulled in preparation for the next round. Can I get some opinions on whether I should continue looking for a p170hm with a 6990, or should I wait for the next iteration to drop? How satisfied is everyone with performance?

You should go with the the NP8171 if you ordering a new one. It's definitley a nice laptop. I am hoping I can upgrade to the Nvidia 680M at the end of the year.

Quick question: Does anyone else get the 'device connected' sound when closing the laptop screen, and the 'device disconnected' sound when opening it back up again? It kind of bugs me!

*edit* Everything works, so I really doubt it is the wiring going to the screen/webcam, and nothing shows up in device manager when I video capture it when closing/opening my screen.

whats the difference between the current 8170 and the 8171? I really wanted a 6990, but I guess I could wait for them to drop in a 7990 since the 7600 series is in the wild I can't imagine it will take too long for its beefy brother to show up.

    Hi,

I own a Clevo P170HM3 and have recently purchased a new Radeon HD6990M from HERE (Eurocom/upgradeyourlaptop)

I replaced my exisiting Geforce 560M without any problems but the internal display won't lid up.......
The display are totally black and I can't even enter the bios.
If I connect an external monitor everything are working. Laptop boots up - find the new card and install drivers sucessfully.

My Clevo are running the latest EC and Bios (I think).
    Bios: 1.01.05
    EC: 1.00.09

As I understand from reading a lot of posts here I also need to flash my new ATI with a clevo vbios.
I have tried this but that didn't help......Maybe this vbios is for P170HM and not the P170HM3 I have?

If I enter bios it show: VGA Card AMD Radeon HD6990M - so it seems my bios are reconizing this card.
I have also tried to clear the bios.

If I plug in my Geforce card again the display are working again....

    Any help is appriciated!

I thought the Kempler have DX11.1 but maybe they didn't on the mobile cards?

I'll wait for the Kempler 680m :D and stick with my 580m.

None of the model cards that have been released so far are even Kepler. They're just rebadged Fermi models. The Kepler cards should be released at some point in the future as further 6xx models.

You have a P170HM3, that 6990m will NEVER fire up that 120Hz screen. The AMD card doesn't output anything on its eDP port so there's no signal for the 120Hz screen to use.

Quick ignorant question. I need to re format my np8170. I dont remember what software came with the install cd (which I left in another country during a move). I should be able to find everything in the download section of support in sager website, correct?

    Hey all,

I'm off to the US in May, and the power points on the plane I'm on will only support up to 75W.

In the past, when I had Dell machines, I would use a power adapater from an older model, and that would be enough to power my laptop for the flight, but not go over the 75W and trip the breaker.

Any clever ideas on what I can do with the P170HM?

You're probably out of luck. A 75w charger is probably enough to trickle charge the battery, but there's also the chance that it would burn up the charger or motherboard instead. I wouldn't recommend trying it to find out unless someone here has already done so and taken the risk. For comparison, the stock charger is 220w.

Well, not "clever" but maybe it is time to carry a spare battery on those trips? (yeah, even more weight..... but the alternative of running out of power isn't so good either)

Hah, on a 15 hour journey, 2 batteries still doesn't really cover me ;o) (I think I get maybe 1-2 hours out of each battery).

    Better than nothing though!

Sounds like I may be better off getting an Ultrabook of some kind for the journey.

I just installed a new ssd and now I can't remember where the second hard drive bay is located..... Also I noticed my ssd is a bit thinner then the hitachi hard drive that came with my lapotp. Is it possible to buy an adapter that makes my ssd a bit thicker so it doesn't bounce around? Thanks in advance!

The second hard drive bay should be under the optical drive. The difference between the hard drive and SSD in size shouldn't be significant enough to make any problems I'd imagine.

Thank you! Can I use the Dual DVI output for the 120Hz with the 6990M or do I have to use the 1.4 HDMI output?

For some reason, I cannot get my external monitor to show 120Hz over the DVI output.

EDIT: Monitor in question is an Asus VG236HE

Maybe it would be fun to see "IF" the plane could power one of our laptops ... actually, I was on a United flight to Japan and the laptop worked fine when plugged in, I was only working on 3dmax and not gaming.
