Check again: Software Upgrade
It should be listed as the "Integrated Video Camera Driver for Windows 7 32/64 BIT" about the sixth one down in the Miscellaneous section. Give it a try with reinstalling the drivers to see if it helps any.

Link is outdated, anyone have a fix for this? I'm having the same spacebar issue
-
Ok guys now that it's clear that the AMD 7970M has almost the same - if not even better - performance of the GTX680m, i want to upgrade my P170HM with it.
For now i got a GTX485m, is it possible to just plug in the 7970M and use it with the same heatsink as before?? Upgrade from GTX460m to GTX485m was fine without a new heatsink (just exchanged the thermal pads & paste).
What about the BIOS / drivers? Possible or not?
Do I need a special BIOS? (NOT a Sager branded laptop, it is a clean Clevo one) -
If you have a supported board then you just need AMDs BIOS without iGPU support.
-
How can I find out if my board is supported?

The Verde 304.79 beta driver works well with my 485M unlike the previous beta.

Just picked up this monitor.
I am using the P170HM and I only have a DVI and HDMI output.
My question is the 6990M I have in the machine outputs HDMI 1.4 and I have just ordered a HDMI 1.4 cable to go with the monitor.
Can I run 120hz? -
Is it 1.4a or 1.4b? I don't know that 1.4a can do 120Hz, but I don't know for certain. I believe you will need a dual link DVI for the bandwidth to run at 120Hz
edit: here's an interesting thread: http://www.overclock.net/t/1092386/why-cant-hdmi-support-real-120hz -
Thanks, I did using ShappireTrixx overclock up easily to 810 \ 1110. I have not found it difficult but I should get a basic cooling and at that point I can push up the frequencies of VGA, i have only a problem, I can not increase the VDDC.
You suggested the change from 6990m to 7970m? I normally play at battlefiled 3 with maximum details, however, do not have enough power to record, even removing the filters and the details set high because every time in the video snaps (and does not reach the 24 fps), with the 7970m I enough power to record and play? What details? The cpu would be ok (my cpu is a 2630qm)?
Perhaps it is better to wait for the 8 series?
Last question, I am going to buy "AUO 17.3" LED Full HD Panel B173HW01 "from what I read is good, can you tell me how to mount? -
GTX 680M in P170HM? Any news? Is it possible to have such upgrade?
I'm thinking of upgrading GPU anyway. I'm not quite keen upgrading to 7970M even it is very good and powerful. Any idea for how long 580M stays around and available? What's the normal cycle would be? Next gen cards I guess definitely wont be compatible. -
It appears there are a few people that have the cards on order. Also, if you check out the 8180 thread, I believe the 680M has been announced as functional in that laptop, so there should be hope for HM owners.
The 580M should last for a while longer though, at least another couple of years in terms of getting great gaming performance. -
Thanks for reply.
On 580M I had in mind like for how long will it be on production line? When Nvidia stops making them? -
The 580M has already been discontinued...technically. Most users will tell you that the 675M is essentially a rebranded 580M with slightly higher clocks and Optimus switching graphics.
Notebook builders that offered the official 580M should keep enough on hand to cover warranty issues for the duration of the warranty, beyond that it will not be guaranteed. -
Their clocks are the same. I thought it was exactly a rebranded 580m with no changes whatsoever.
-
Yes GTX680M works just out of the box on P170HM...
-
quick question. can i order this replacement screen and fit it into my np8170? my screen cracked recently and this is the cheapest solution...

Hi guys
I'm a newbee here
I've got my p170hm (branded DNS) in Russia.
We have a local reseller selling these machines.
Mine is with 6990m, this is a pretty powerfull piece of cr*p! Though GPU rises up to 101 celcius! I've repasted it to stg1, didn't help. Want to go for ICD7. -
Hey guys, I got an offer out of the blue for a GTX580m, that wasn't really in my plans but it's quite tempting, so I got 2 questions:
1. Does $400 CAN + my old 560m in trade sounds like a good deal?
2. Do I need a new heatsink and backplate?
Thanks a lot
-
hey guys, quick question, in the middle of moving my charger for my 8170 was mixed in with power cords for my lcd monitors ... the end that plugs into the power brick for my 8170 is very similar to the monitor power cables ... can anyone tell me what the cord that plugs into the power brick and the wall says on it? mine read I-sheng is-14 10av 125v 1250w ..... . thank you for your help

Hey guys. I have a Sager NP8170 with the 6990m card. I foolishly updated to Catalyst 12.6 without checking to see if anyone had any problems with it, and I'm not sure what drivers I was using before the update. Now every 10 seconds or I am experiencing a frame lag/hiccup and it's very noticeable. Can anyone with the same laptop point me towards the best drivers they are using with no problems? Or maybe tell me how to rollback my drivers? Thanks in advance.
-
The 12.7 Beta is working well for my 6970M.
-
1) Uhh, not worth it. A brand new 675m costs about USD 450 from Eurocom, a Canadian Clevo reseller (through upgradeyourlaptop on ebay).
2) Don't quote me on this, but from what I've seen, upgrading from older nvidia to newer nvidia chipsets you can re-use the heatsink. Don't know about the backplate sorry.
Hope this helps and you didn't get the 580m and lose the 560m. -
A quick question: do you know if the AUO B173HW01 V5 is compatible with the p170hm?
It 's the best monitor that I can install? -
That screen is compatible with the P170HM.
It is currently the best Matte display available for 17" Notebook PCs. -
i forgot, what is "hot" temp for us
-
90c+ for longer periods should be avoided.
-
My power cord reads the same, you are good to go Dude!

I decided to open up my laptop recently for some repasting and found out that my RAM is below the keyboard rather than beside the CPU/GPU and that one of the screws (no.7 for the GPU) would not come off due to a spoilt screw head.
1. Should I change the position of the RAM?
2. Other than the CPU and GPU, where else do I need to apply the cooling paste to (or rather, do the RAM for the GPU need it)? -
If you order with just two sticks the ram is installed under keyboard by default. Unless you are upgrading or swapping for new ram just leave them be.
Just CPU and gpu. You're good to go!

Thanks, looks like I won't need to disassemble the laptop again

Hi masters, Can anyone please help me how to install a SSD?? I don't know where exactly am i going to tap / put in
Planning to buy SSD since price went down.

There will be a SATA port you can put the SSD in under the optical drive. You do have to remove the screws and slide it out to see it. You will then want to get into your BIOS, make sure the SATA connection type is ACHI, and assign the new SSD as the primary hard drive to boot from. You just gotta install Windows, Drivers, and Programs after that. -
hello,
I downloaded the bios for my laptop clevo p170HMx serial NKP170HM0001F00310. all went great it flashed correctly but after it finished, i restarted the laptop and there is no sign of life. all black the only light is the power + orange one for Bluetooth, keyboard not respond, black screen as far and self turn off. as i understand the bios flashing was failed please any idea how to fix it ?
I dont know if i brick the bios or the ec firmware or two
big thanks by advance! -
Hey, W870 owner here.
Any of you guys upgrading to the 7970 or 680 and looking to get rid of your 6990?
I'm from the UK, and looking for a cheaper way to upgrade than buying from Eurocom and paying £70 shipping and an extra 20% VAT.
So if you're looking to get rid of your old 6990, get in touch by PM or reply to my post. Cheers. -
Seems like a brick indeed...
Why did you flash a new BIOS anyways? I'm sure someone might help you though -
I have two 580ms from my m18x laying around and my friend has a 8170 with a 460m. I was wondering is it possible for him to swap out his 460 for a 580 and use the same heatsync? Or would he need to buy extra stuff?

Hello all. I seem to have a problem with my keyboard. A few keys don't function. Keys are, Windows key, fn, and 1,2,3 on the numpad. I'll try to open the lappy up and check for loose wire, but anything else I can check or do? I didn't spill anything in it. I was away on vacation, and when I came back and turned it on, I noticed the problem.
-
Call your resellers.
Something is entirely wrong.. try unplugging and plugging the keyboard back in -
Hello. I read about 7970m on HM version and isnt have enduro and utlization problem? I dont want pay horrible money for gtx680
I know - 7970m have hdmi problem and not work on HM series
Ps. Sorry for my bad eng
-
No enduro problems on hm machines. The dgpu is on and used all the time since the igpu is not wired and hooked up. Get it and enjoy!

Yep, 7970m once you flash the vbios, works like a charm on the hm series clevos. Best bang for buck if you don't need the HDMI and do insane overclocking.
-
You can also get it preflashed if you are uncomfortable with blind flashing.

Hey guys, I'm sorry I'm such a noob at laptops but I have a HM and I really want to get the the 7970. (I currently have the gtx460) What does it mean blind flashing and how do I do that if I wanted the 7970?
Thank you -
It's pretty ironic that, when it's all said and done, the 7970M ends up working better in the HM than the EM.
-
Okay, I am guessing some of you saw my thread about the blank screen after windows loads the gpu driver at start up with the 680m. I still haven't figured out how to fix this problem!
I have tried it with a fresh install of windows 7 twice just to make sure there weren't traces of the old drivers when the ones I tried didn't work. Should I ask for a replacement card?
I also had problems adjusting the brightness on my lcd with my old card. I don't know if that could be part of what is going on with this card, or just that I don't have the correct drivers for my display.
Please let me know if you can think of any tricks to get this to work! -
Especially after all that trouble Kingpin went through... ridiculousness at its best
