Some people over at LaptopVideo2Go reported slightly better frame rates on some games, maybe you should go with the modified ones if you want even better perfm? :)

I am running from my laptop a Panasonic 46" plasma via HDMI watching "Christine" and playing Stalker full screen. No hiccups and only 80C. I have not tried the new drivers.

You cannot put an ivy bridge CPU in the p1x0hm series. Haswell is expected to use a different socket, so compatibility with existing ivy bridge motherboards and chipsets are probably unlikely. Let me find conclusively evidence regarding the latter statement.

I have an audio question using the laptop speakers. I'm guessing that when I'm watching youtube or listening to music through Win Media Player, I should FN+5 to switch to stereo and therefore make it louder. The 5.1 doesn't kick in unless something is encoded for it. But why is it that if I'm watching BluRay, it doesn't have 5.1 audio? I did go into the BluRay options in that Cinema 10 program and switched from Theater to Music in the audio options and I think I get 5.1 now. Am I doing things correctly?

Would be nice to get 5.1 off of youtube and my mp3's. Oh and in my games (which I can't get 5.1 in LOTRO).

I noticed three antennae for my Wi-Fi card (Intel 6230) and forgot which colour (red, black, transparent) should go to which port (a "Main/1" and a "Aux/2"). May I know which colour goes to which port?

Should be fine doing that via HDMI as long as the monitor supports HDMI 1.4, I also believe you need an Nvidia card in there, the AMD options didnt support it.

Can anyone help me with an issue I'm having with my CPU throttling? Even when gaming, my CPU is throttling my speed to 798 MHZ. It will fluctuate and randomly go to 3200 MHz sometimes. I didn't have an option in my BIOS to disable C1E, EIST, and c3/c6, so I was wondering if someone had a guide on how to use a program such as ThrottleStop? I'm really getting sick of these i7 processors and the power saving options on them :(

Your AC is plugged and your Power Conservation Mode is set to Performance and it throttle to 800MHz while gaming ? Is it a new phenomenom ? With all games ?

Have you check your CPU temperature while it is throttling ?

for AMD/NVidia Windows 8 upon installation would install default drivers, from there you can download the latest drivers respectively from their websites.
same holds true for Intel WLAN cards.

There's also updated USB 3 drivers and firmware floating around here

The rest I just used what came with my sager disk since they work fine so far.

I'm having trouble with the THX. All started when I had to uninstall the Realtek software because it was acting up. Next thing you know the THX would not work. Would say something about not finding compatible audio devices. Does anyone know what to do? I've uninstall all audio, put them back. Just can't get that THX to work.

Figured out my problem. Somehow by activating the THX software again, it made it work. Mind you, I've done this previously and it didn't work, but worked ok this time.

Now if I can only figure out an optimal sound configuration. Here I go tweaking the settings again. Oh joy.

Hey all, I'm having an issue with Direct Sound and Mumble. Mumble has the option to 'Attenuate applications when others are speaking', but it's greyed out currently. It wasn't when I initially got the laptop, but I installed a SSD and reinstalled all the drivers(direct from Clevo's site) and now (although my sound works fine) it looks like Mumble can't detect Direct Sound.

    Anyone have/fix this issue?

Anybody have this problem? When I bring the laptop to the living room with one adapter, "sometimes" it just powers off. period. of course, only when I am not looking. When I have it plugged into my desk in my office, it never happens, different ac adapter ... been going on for about a month or so. Could this be an AC adapter issue??? Kinda a DUH! question, but just want to check to see of anyone has had brick issues.

    Thanks

    Hey all,

I just bought a new lcd screen for my Sager NP8170 and connected it to the video cable, but the display was very dark and if i shined a flashlight behind it, I could see the display. Emailed the customer support from the place I bought it and they said it might be a bad video cable. Does that sound right? If so, any suggestions on where to buy one and how to install in?

    Thanks

If the backlite doesn't show it's an inverter problem. Did you use the old inverter or did the display come with it's own?

    https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Sager/NP8170/

Its the 17.3 inch Auo Matte B173HW01 V.5 screen.

The thing is, a couple days ago they sent me the wrong screen, they sent me the 17 inch matte 1600x900 instead of 1080p. That one worked perfectly fine. This new one though, its really dark.

Oh, is the inverter the cable that connects the laptop to the screen, or is it something different?

How do i get to the inverter on a NP8170? I dont see one. And i didn't disconnect my old screen that broke from it when i removed it, just un hooked it from the video cable.

These are LED screens, they don't have backlights like the older CCFL LCD screens. Its all one cable. If your new screen won't light, its either the wrong screen or a bad screen.

What was wrong with your old screen? Did it do the same thing? It could be a bad cable, or a partially failing motherboard.. No real good way to tell. Unless your old screen lit up fine in which case you got a bunk screen

My first screen was cracked, so I bought a new one. They sent me the wrong screen at first (matte 1600x900) which worked perfectly fine except it wasn't 1080p. So I sent it BA k in exchange for this one that now is very dark. I plugged in my first screen that's cracked, and the colored lines are barely visible on that screen, they were bright before..

Sounds like the cable may have gotten messed up in the screen swaps (Don't know that for sure), but thats I guess where I would start. As a 50 LVDS cable is cheaper than a motherboard.

This is a good place to ask. This has been my problem with my NP8170... finding support and help with random issues that arise because of the unpopularity of Clevo/Sager.

Throttlestop seems to be able to get it to 2.7GHz, but no higher.... I'd like to get this thing running at 3.2/Turbo. When I set it to 2.6GHz it runs at 2600mhz stable which is great but when I go any higher (i.e. to 3.0 or Turbo) it will then fluctuate again. So if I set it to turbo (or higher then 2.7GHz) it will fluctuate between about 2600-2700mhz. I'm monitoring this using CPU-z. Unfortunately Sager doesn't have a very good BIOS, otherwise I'd be able to change a few simple options and get it working optimally, however Sager does not have those options in the Bios. I contacted them and they said there is nothing they can do because I have the most up to date Bios. XoticPC support was no help either.

If you are using ThrottleStop, turn off CPU-Z. I don't know of an app that will track your CPU multiplier more accurately than ThrottleStop does.

Put a check mark in the Set Multiplier box, set ThrottleStop to Turbo and make sure it is turned on. Intel designs their CPUs so that the amount of turbo boost continuously varies depending on how many cores are active, power consumption and core temperature.

Post a ThrottleStop log file while you are gaming and you should be seeing plenty of turbo boost if your laptop is working correctly. Copy and paste the data to Pastebin.com - #1 paste tool since 2002! and post a link here. Include your CPU model number so I can look up the Intel specs for it and make sure your CPU is running as Intel intended.

Edit: You can not lock a non-Extreme processor at the highest possible turbo multiplier. The ThrottleStop TRL window will show you the maximum possible multiplier depending on how many cores are active. More active cores, the lower the maximum multiplier will be.

Hi guys, I've a question for all of us.

I have this machine since a year and half ago, and from the first day, there is something I've been asking to myself.

When you are using it, in silence, don't you listened with certain periodicity, a sound like a "click" from right side of the machine?, like the sound did old tabs alarm clock like this:
http://www.xcrater.com/images/larm Clock with 2 White LED Lights (Black).jpg
    or this:
    http://gnomo.eu/WebRoot/StoreES2/Sh...2/D94C/9B1C/AB94/Reloj_Flip_negro_00373_1.jpg
    View attachment 88747
    at falling a tab?.
Sound doesn't produces at every minute, but its really similar noise at this "tabs falling".

Anyone heard it?. What is producing this noise exactly? Which is its function?.
I think it comes from hard disk 2 bay / dvd rom zone, from right side of the machine.

People with Clevo P150hm / sager np8150 hear it too?.

I have always Seagate HDDs ticking like this all the time with many laptops. As Prema suggests, it's most likely head parking. Not only is the noise irrating, this drives the load/unload cycle count through the roof. There's plenty of complaints of this issue in Seagate's forums. I resolve the issue by disabling HDD AAM and APM with hdparm:

    hdparm.exe -M 254 hdb
    hdparm.exe -B 254 hdb

You should be able to find hdparm for Windows out there and put these commands to run as a scheduled task every time the PC boots or resumes from sleep. (HDD resets these paramters every time PC sleeps)

I'm at my wits end. I own a P170HM with an NVIDIA 485M card. For the past year, I've been battling an occasional issue of my graphics becoming corrupt and needing to reinstall my drivers to fix the problem (this means a complete uninstall and driver sweep and then reloading). I always assumed it was a Windows issue and reloading seemed to fix it, so no big deal.

And then at one point, it began to occasionally boot to a black screen after the Windows 7 Logo comes on. I can tell everything is loading because I hear the Windows logon chimes and the machine's still running. And the screen isn't 'off' black. It's powered on because it has a slight glow.

It used to be that a hard reboot would fix the problem and it happened maybe every 3 out of 10 times. This past week, it's happened every time and now the only way I can see an image on my LCD screen is with the Standard VGA driver. I even formatted my system completely and reinstalled Windows and nVidia driver from scratch. I used new and old versions, WHQL and Laptop2Go modified versions. Same effect. I just tested to see if I can pull an image from the external DVI port with the latest nVidia driver and I can indeed. No problem at all. But nothing seems to give me the image on the LCD unless it's the crappy Standard VGA driver.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
