Hello I bought the clevo p170hm from Malibal some months ago but I havent been staying up to date on my drivers. Where can I find the drivers for video cards and stuff? My video card is AMD® Radeon HD 6990M 2GB GDDR5. And how do I toggle the fan on and off?

you can download the latest drivers/beta from the amd website also you can't turn off the fan, but rather low-high setting by pressing FN + 1 (not F1)

And can you help me fix this. Everytime my computer monitor shuts off or if i restart the computer, wireless function is turned off. I have to click troubleshoot and manually turn on wireless again. Is there a Fn that turns the wireless on and off?

    I got network killer adapter

I have been outdated to the forum this past year...
Now that it exists, are you guys using AMD Mobility Radeon™ Notebook Drivers ? Or Reseller/Clevo drivers?

Yep, Im using the latest one from AMD.
I was just checking if you were also, because HM early days, people would recommend using CLEVO drivers saying they were more compatible.

Can someone help me on how to replace microphone?
I don't know if I have a bad realtek or my mic is interfering, cause I got hiss also when using a external mic.
I tested this external mic in other PC and its fine, but not fine in notebook.

It's unlikely the built in mic is causing the hiss you're experiencing. To test this you can always mute the built in one through the sound controls. What you're likely experiencing is interference from other components. Are you using the external mic through the line in jack or are you using a bluetooth/USB option?

I need help Sager 8170 owners!

It spontaneously stopped charging. I unplugged it to prevent over charging. Later when I plugged it back in again it didn't charge. It works fine on just battery. I purchased a second charger believing it was the charger ( AC Adapter Charger for FSP220 ABAN1 6 51 X8102 010 Female Connector Power Supply | eBay) & that didn't work. Please help? & When I plugged in the new charger a second time the laptop smoked. Just my luck the warranty expired two weeks ago. I just sent it back a few weeks ago to get the Ethernet port fixed too. I've only had it for 10 weeks since I got it back ,and it's broken again.

Smoking is a very bad sign, sounds like motherboard damage rather than jack damage, if you are not confident you need to get someone who is to inspect the board but it could be a replacement job.

This is sort of a random question, but my graphics card died last friday and I need to send it to sager for a replacement under warranty. While I'm waiting for the new card, is it possible to run the laptop without a card in it and utilize the integrated graphics of my i7-2630qm?

Yes, you need disahs hard wired to the integrated graphics to do it and none are so there is not a work around either.

Looking at a diagram is seemed to happen near PCI slot. It was small, but there was a smell. It wouldn't be worth it to replace the whole motherboard..? :/ Is geek squad any good?

Hello all I'm the proud owner of a clevo p180hm from malibal computers. So here's my question guys, my system ran games like a champ until recently. The setup is a i7 2630qm processor, 12 gigs of ram, x2 amd 6970m graphics cards in crossfire. 1gig 7200 hard drive. So within the last 3 days all of my Video games stopped useing my secondary graphics card. So here what I did when I found out, I uninstalled/reinstalled the latest drivers. And even rotated the video cards around from master to slave to rule out any hardware problems. And I even ran graphics benchmarks on both cards. Teu give the se results, so my question is why is my system only useing the main card an main card only? Even with crossfire on!?!

Did you update the drivers prior to experiencing these troubles? Sometimes Windows update will sneak an update in there unknown to you and I've found to be a cause of issues for some people. Might want to try rolling back a couple revisions and see if that fixes your problem.

    Good evening all,

I have a P170HM3 purchased through Malibal and am hoping that someone on this forum can help with a question. My esc key was pried off by my 3 yr old and while the retaining clips on the key board itself are fine, the scissor clip / retaining clip under the esc key itself is broken. The folks from Malibal dont stock these anymore but i found this link:

Replacement Keyboard Key Clip Hinge Mechanism Scissor for Small Keys | eBay

I'm pretty sure one of those will work, maybe B35?

    Here's hoping someone knows.

    Thank you

Why don't you just remove an other key from the top line, which share the same size, and measure it? I would guess that's the only way to to know for sure. They just snap back in when pressed down.

Just call Sager, or Pro-Star. They'd have the parts you need.

I have a sager np8170-s1. It seems the GTX 485m bit the dust a few days ago. I have Windows 8 installed, and it had been running fine. Had a crash and the system doesn't recognize a Nvidia card anymore. I am a little confused though, because my display still works as a generic display. I had assumed it was an integrated video card, but reading this thread makes me think that that isn't possible. So I don't know if the card is totally shot or if it is another issue. I tried booting into Knoppix, which usually works with my Nvidia card, but I just have a blank screen.

Any suggestions on how to determine if the card is dead or if it is a driver issue? Already tried DLing the latest Nvidia drivers and installing them to no avail. Device manager reports that there are problems with the 485m and it has been disabled. Nvidia control panel doesn't see a Nvidia card on the system, but the Nvidia download manager saw the 485m and grabbed the correct driver. I'm kind of baffled on this one.

The screen has some artifacts on the login screen, but desktop looks fine, except not a widescreen resolution.

If I do need to replace it, what is the most cost effective card to put in, that is equivalent or better than the 485m? I am about a year over warranty, so no help there.

Poach a used 675m/580m or a 6990m. A lot of users are upgrading and will sell their old card

is there any way to connect two external monitors to this while having the laptop monitor remain functional (for a total of 3 monitors)?
I have an AMD HD 6990.

The only way is to get a USB adapter for the third monitor. Without it you can only support two monitors at a time.

If you want to use two with the built in one you can hook one up via HDMI then get a USB adapter for the second external one. That will allow you to have 3 total.

It wont be as good as the dedicated GPU though, it uses its own video processor so its good for things like webpages or office programs (word/excel) etc. It wont be good for any type of gaming.

Look what just happened to mine...

    Broken left lcd metal joint.
    [IMG] [IMG]

I never droped it :( That little piece of metal just broke from nothing.

I think too many open/close lid from the right border forced too much the left joint.
I don't have much lucky with this type of metal, my George Foreman grill joint is made from the same metal and is also broken.
Its so malleable that you can twist it with your bare hands.

I also noticed that these joints are extremely hard to move. The amount of strength needed to close it with and without the screen isnt comparable. Try to close your screen near the joint.

What can I do now? Is there a replacement for that part? Is there a replacement for entire screen barebone?
I am also contacting Eurocom, but wanted to give you guys a piece of my sadness. :(

Thanks. And where do I find it? Just with the reseller?

Some of the screw bases from the plastic lcd panel are also broken. I think even if I replace just the metal hinge, the screen will become loose inside the barebone.
Is there a replacement for the entire plastic lcd panel? the LCD barebone.

HI - haven't been here for a while to this thread, and I hope by posting here I'm not stepping on any toes or posting where I shouldn't!

My sager 8170 will be 2 in August. I'm using the nvidia geforce gtx 560M. In the past month I purchased a Wacom Cintiq 21UX tablet, since I'm a graphic designer/3d modeler and a tablet is plain heaven. (I will not go into the terrible and well-known hassle of getting an nvidia card to recognize and work with a 21 UX, suffice to say I cannot update the gpu driver past the 270 version...)

It's funny but not - I accidentally hit my CPUID hardware monitor on my taskbar this afternoon, and nearly had a heart attack when it showed my gpu had reached 101 * C. The cores themselves were fine, down at their normal 42-50*C area.

I was not gaming, not using the tablet with any programs like adobe PS or 3ds Max; only had my ms outlook minimized, firefox up on the screen, and a file downloading in the background.

I could not get the gpu down below 90*C even with our beloved Fn+1 and all fans blowing a gale. I shut off the cintiq though I left it attached, so I suppose the gpu was still registering it there, just not actively sending to it. I made sure my power plan was down at Balanced instead of max performance, setting it to automatic adjust with the computer.

    There was very little change.

It was not until I changed back from dual monitor to laptop monitor, and physically disconnected the tablet that my temps began to drop, and finally hit a nice comfy 42*C with fans full on. F1 fan is off, I'm browsing online, and it's running at 49*C.

Does ANYONE ELSE use this combination of computer/gpu and a Cintiq tablet of any type? Do you have temp issues like this?

Is there anyone NOT a cintiq user who might have any insight into this temp issue?

Thank in advance for any kind replies.

I have never used my 8170 with a Cintiq tablet, but I have played ArmA II & III for hours and I never ran into temp issues.

    Hi everybody,

I'm a proud owner of a P170HM with an 485m. And I've almost got trapped on the dark side when I saw the colours of a rMBP.... but luckily (for my wallet) decided I'll stick with the P170hm. At least 1 more year till maxwell.

For that I'll do some upgrades.

1-First of all did anybody tried to install an IPS LG-Phillips panel?

    LP173WF3-SL(B1)
    LP173WF3-SL(B2)
    LP173WF3-SL(B3)

Although I don't know what it means b1,b2 or b3 do you think that if I buy the panel it will work?

2-I'll jump up to 16gb of ram config. Which would be the max speed? 1866 with a 2960xm?

3-780m for us, it will happen?

    4-someone has some more compact/small 220w PSU?

    Thank you all!

    P170HM - i7 2720QM - 8GB 1333 - 485M - AU B173HW01 V5 Matte

Any of the IPS screens are NOT compatible with the P170HM/EM/Anything Clevo, as it has a whole different pinout for the connector and needs an additional power connector on the screen also. In addition it'll ONLY run quadro cards due to the 10-bit-ness of the IPS panels used, so for all those reasons no it won't work :)

I've seen non quadro machines sport IPS panels but typically they are soldered GPUs anyway, but yes IPS want 50pin connectors and the 1080p sagers are 40 pin.

Eurocom answered. They are charging U$70 for both hinges and U$200 for Front and Back LCD Panel.
Isn't it to expensive? Is there other place I can buy these parts?

HI, I've got a Clevo P170HM, bought it around end 2011, works fine till today. The screen keeps blinking and displaying distorted images i.e., pixelated and red bands on the screen and it won't respond to anything. My laptop is now unusable as the weird problem makes the screen non responsive. Any idea what might the problem be? I'm guessing it to be GPU related. Btw I am using the AMD 6990M. Thank you very much for any help rendered.

Yes there have been issues of 6990M cards dying, also to the parts question above, they are all custom bits so they can be quite expensive yes, nothing stopping you from contacting other places like sager themselves though.
