    Water cooling your notebook

I just want to say that it´s possible to put a water cooler in your notebook, and have extreme good results

I have a Clevo P775TM1-G com Grafica GTX 1080 e CPU I7 8700K, and as you can think, the noise is terrible, and the GTX is an oven, always 90º when playing

After making several attempts, like applying Thermal Grizzly Condunaut (Liquid Metal), the best I got on the GPU were 83º. Polish with Car polish the heatsinks, given that to remove this type of paste is only possible this way and 5 hours later in each one ..... I tested Artic silver 5, the worst effect ever paste, .... sandpaper the heatsinks like mirrors, send it to Clevo ... etc, etc, etc .... I thought of a water cooler after watching a video on Youtube. I bet on the Cooler Master Liquid 280 Pro, I tested on the top of the heatsinks first, I got 80º, so I applied it directly on the chip and didn´t get a big change ..... 90's ..... I decided then one more time .. .. looked again for the best thermal paste possible .. and based on ceramic, the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut my friends, after applied and only with the heatsink, the temp went down from the 90º to an astounding 78º!. : Post this, I decided to make 2 small plates to put the tabs better, made of aluminium to hold the water cooler better, as you can see in the photos.

I'm having a temp. maximum at this time of 63º.

With this I say goodbye, and I can confirm that it is possible to put a water cooler in a notebook and lower temperatures to results better than a desktop

As for mobility (i don´t have this problem), just cut the tabs, put the cover and you are ready to go. takes 5 minutes

    Thank you all

You are not the first to do something similar, strapping a big water cooler does help yes, though it has some practical limitations.

less than 5 minutes? common.....you only have to cut them and put the cover of the laptop...there are people doing more stupid things in that time, like killing etc.....don´t tell me you don´t have less than 5 minutes of your life, in order to have less 30º on your GPU.....less noise, and get rid of the constant 90º that only work undervolting in the BIOS or else it enters in throttling.....

So, I finally got the P775TM via FedEx today, but I have a question about how to install RAM. I purchased 32GB (18x2) RAM separately since it was cheaper via Newegg, and I noticed that RAM slots 3 and 4 are located on the bottom (where the storage, cpu, gpu goes), while RAM slots 1 and 2 are located underneath the keyboard.

Does it matter where I install them specifically? If so, where is the best/optimal place to install them?

EDIT: I also would like to know if I should use the included CD to install the drivers or if I should instead go to the Clevo website to get more updated drivers?

Yes, since 5 minutes takes it past the point where a small form factor desktop is less convenient to port around for a lot of DTR people.

Does anyone know if installing the System76 drivers (for Linux) would replace the Prema bios? Those are the only drivers that I know of that will allow the hardware (keyboard, etc.) to work flawlessly with Linux, but I noticed that the repositories (link below) include firmware bios updates.

Not being a Prema Partner, it would not. Plus, the Prema BIOS flash is done remotely, so any BIOS or EC update performed by installing these drivers could not be Prema based.

IIRC, System 76 has their own modified BIOS/EC they use and ship with their systems. Some internet searching may find posts in the NBR forums or a mention of it elsewhere.

Looking at some of the code some of the BIOS /EC flashing in git hub, it looks as if some of the updates should prompt you before the flash, but this determined from a quick cursory glance I did at a couple of files, not a complete audit of what gets called from where. You could always gamble, and if you update, hopefully you could cancel out of anything that says it will flash EC or BIOS.

If you can't find anything about their own Bios, perhaps you could ask System76 support, or find someone with a System 76 system that could ask them for you.

    ----

Out of curiosity, what is not working that you cannot find drivers for?

Thanks, and it's so that I can have full "out of the box" functionality on Linux (Debian) without having to spend hours finding/installing drivers separately for each laptop feature/hardware (especially the keyboard).

Yes. You would might have to spend time tracking things down for driver support. In regards to KB, what are you looking for?

I've finally jumped aboard the EVOC ship with one of these P775TM beauties. @Donald@HIDevolution I've sent you a pm. Much appreciated if you could help me out with the order. I really don't want another investment burning up like my old P750ZM. Shame Metabox isn't a Prema partner. They're pretty much the only local Clevo reseller down here. They only offered some repaste jobs but that's it.

So my P750ZM went down in a blaze of glory (literally!). See pics. Please let me know what could possibly cause the laptop to burn out like that. Was playing Nier Automata (FAR installed, 1080p, MSAA off, AO on, all else on high). Laptop shut down, small flash of flame. Burnt smell. The rest is history. The ZM was running Prema BIOS and vBIOS on 980M. CPU very slightly undervolted in BIOS. No OC at all. Laptop was put on top of a Notepal X3 running at full speed. Did it overheat or did power surge kill the machine?

They sure didn’t advertise that on their website last I checked (only a few weeks ago). Also, unlike EVOC, I did not see any delidding or binned Silicon Lottery options either. They did not specify which thermal compound/pads they would use.

Do you mean the fans generate a lot of static? or the vacuum? The reason I ask is because from time to time I've been getting small shocks from my headphones (plugged in the the 3.5mm jack in the P775TM).

    Hi.
Is there any screen problem with p775tm? Korean reseller has recalled all the p775tm and stopped selling them. And I've heard this happened due to screen problem. Since they still sell p755tm without any issue, I guess this issue is happening only in p775tm.
Anyone has any idea or knows about this?

You don't identify the "they", so how can anyone verify what you are talking about? Did you at least try to Google it?

Without some reliable source for this story, it is rumor.

    Likewise, I mean no offense.

However when you come on a global forum and make a claim about a product recall/failure or the like, it can create a concern that will go viral fairly quickly.

I can't find anything about it on Google, so it could be just a very localized issue for that reseller, and have nothing to do with the product. If it had to do with the product, you would think it would be wide spread, and well reported.

Translating their homepage would be helpful of course. But if all they reference there is something like "...due to a screen issue..." that isn't really helpful. If they don't state any more than that, you have to wonder...why only them?

Yeah you are right. That is why I was asking in this global forum to see if any other reseller's p775 has issue like this. And you wont find anything in google because google isnt much used in korea as much as it is used in other countries. We used anothet platform called naver.com and you can find alot about this in issue in korean communities.

And of course to specify the exact company I've mentioned "korean reseller" in my 1st post and "hansung" in last post.

I really want to buy one but my purchase was cancled by the seller after a week from my purchase date. This is not a rumor but my experience. Is it a problem to share my experience on it in this forum? Is this forum a commercial forum? I dont think so. Not a rumor but a fact and experience.

If there is no issue on this matter I would want to buy one from foreign company via internet. This is the only reason I started the post. To find out whether it is a globla or local issue.

I think i can safely without any worry buy one from amazon if there is no global problem.

Just received my P775TM1-G from HIDevolution. Currently installing windows. I finally know what is the screen banding some have been talking about. There's some backlight bleed on the bottom of the panel. Don't know if i can get used to it. Surprised that it arrived in one piece, very nicely packaged! Can't wait to test some games! Thanks again @Donald@HIDevolution for all the help!

One question, I want to install my old Samsung 850 EVO. From my understanding, the M.2 slots are under the keyboard right?

After some testing, I seems like -80mv on the CPU and Uncore is not enough to lower the temps. Getting up to 67C at 50% load. Anyone know a good starting point for an undervolt for all cores at x47?

Not one display. They were selling FHD 144hz gsync, QHD and so.
I called Hansung and they said it is the IPS baning that was the problem.
They said compared to ex58 (aka p755TM) and other prior models, the new ex78 (aka p775TM) has more banding issues.
And this is the reason they stopped selling it. They have canceled all ex78 (aka p775TM) purchase in Korea.
Now they are selling only ex58 (p755TM) and some other junior models.

The banding is quite bad actually, I see it all the time. Once you see it, it can't be unseen. Sadly there's no other QHD screen with gsync.

    How bad is it?
Actually Hansung the Korean clevo reseller restarted selling p775. But the screen is only qhd TN 120hz gsync. No ips now.

Well for me, I'm very susceptible to these kinds of things. I didn't think it would be that bad when I made my order. It's very noticeable for me, even with normal viewing distance. I see it on the desktop, watching Netflix, and sometimes playing games. Sadly there's no other QHD panel that supports Gsync.

Hi all, new to post here(obviously) I am the proud new owner of a p775, sadly didn’t find this forum till after i purchased from a non-prema vendor :( I have two questions for the community here:

My machine came with the 8700K -130 undervolted by the vendor which makes for temp maxes in the mid 80’s. However I have been unable to similarly reduce the 1080 temps with afterburner, after selecting to allow voltage control the sliders are still non-oprational. Is there some trick I’m missing there?

Secondly I am hunting to find a safe way to carry this beast when travelling. Any great bags you guys have discovered? No real firm requirements aside from very protective and solidly built.. ie no blown zippers or tearing from the front corners.

Thanks to everyone here being so sharing I have avoided many pitfalls others have encountered while using.

    Cheers!

My 8700K runs about 70C in games, but i have mine delidded with conductornaut. However my 1080 runs at 90C when I was testing doom. That seems fairly high and I have no idea why or how to make it run cooler. I am using Prema bios and I don't see any throttling but 90C is concerning.

I'm using the Razer Tactical Pro back pack that I've been using for 2 years since I got my P670RG and the P775TM1-G just fits nicely into it.

If you have the 3K QHD AUO 120Hz display (specifically the B173QTN01.0, which I assume you do since you stated that there's no other QHD panel that supports Gsync), then unfortunately that's a known issue. If you do a quick google search with the model number of that display (B173QTN01.0) you will info about it.

Yea, I knew about it. Many people reported the issue and some said it wasn't that noticeable or it didn't bother them much. So I took the gamble on it that I wouldn't notice it much, but i guess I was wrong. So I'm deciding what to do now. Just stick with it till a better QHD screen with gsync certification comes around or go with a 144hz FHD one.
