@akis What I can tell you from 6 hours gaming continuously:

Game: Nier Automata (with FAR patch)
Settings: Maxed out except AA off
    Max frame: 60FPS @1440p
    Min frame: 55FPS
    Max GPU temp: 73C
    Max CPU temp: 70C-ish
    Turbo Mode: On
    Additional Overclock: None
CPU Undervolt: 1125mV Override mode (in BIOS)
GPU Undervolt: 912mv @~1847Mhz (in MSI Afterburner, though I even saw 1860Mhz on the OSD). See @Mr. Fox excellent guide here

Specs are in my sigs. Also laptop was on a Notepal X3 running at full speed. Ambient temperature 20C.

Your temps will be lower in games that are capped at 60 FPS because CPU and GPU usage are lower.

Certainly so. Running Unigine Superposition for 15-20 minutes I got 83C consistently on GPU. Extreme Shaders it was a stuttering mess but High Shaders was smooth.

At those temps your clocks must be really stable, nicely tuned for 24/7.

Have you managed to fix your black screen problem? For the record I've been on nVidia driver 390.77 since installing Windows. Rock solid.

Like I said couple of weeks ago, find a cheap set of precision screwdrivers to open up the laptop then try the CMOS battery reset trick. I got mine up and running after screwing up the BIOS within 15 minutes. Fortune favours the bold my friend.

You can do a CMOS reset without unplugging the battery by holding down Fn+D while pressing the power button.

It should work, unless you have the stock BIOS and your seller locked out the key combo for some reason.

    Wow...partial quote from page 105...

Regarding your concerns about the safety of liquid metal thermal interface material, yes applying anything metal conductive to a piece of electronic equipment has its risks, but we have a proprietary means of application to prevent leakage. Also, you can rest assured that any upgrades that we perform will be covered under warranty. Regarding its long term effects, we have been offering liquid metal thermal compound for over a year with no ill effects or reports of issues from users. On the contrary, we found liquid metal thermal material to be more effective than traditional thermal interface material over the long term.

To India and back...no problem when it is done correctly.

Atlantic? Mine crossed the Pacific Ocean mate :D. The first thing I did after opening the box was tearing the laptop open to see its guts. Ballsy moves stuck with me since the Alienware days.

Really interested in knowing what actually happened to m4gg0t's system. Disregard the fact that he tinkered with its settings a lot more than I, the out-of-the-box experience for me was immaculate. Guess we all have different priorities.

It sounds like he got hit by the nVidia driver bug that destroyed cards, but we probably won't know for sure until it gets looked at by a tech, if even then.

    Hi.

Does anyone have any info on what 4k display is used in this model?
I do a lot of video editing and am hoping that it will work well at 50 and 60Hz. My current laptop suffers from stutter and tearing during video preview
and am hoping the combination of g sync and a good display will cure this.

    Thanks in advance.

Overclocking kinda sux on these for the CPU unless you have a Prema bios. GTX 1080 gets pretty warm in these.

Hi All, had a good read at the forum as I'm looking at getting a new laptop in the next few months. Its an LG Carbon Extreme from Scan 3XS. I'm looking at the 8700k with 1080.

I've read about the CPU or GPU getting quite hot, is it possible to delid these? Has anyone got any pics or guides on taking the CPU out for delidding of possible?

Any advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Apologies should have added, that apparently they use P775TM chassis.

    Thanks

    Hi All.

Just one more question. I hear a lot about "banding" on the B173ZAN01.0 60Hz 4K UHD display on these forums. Does anyone have a picture of this so I can see if it will be an issue or not..
    Thanks in advance.

Now I start having problems with not being able to turn on Wifi after Wake from Sleep with the Killer 1550. Only a full system restart will help. Disabled Power Management in Device Manager but didn't help. Driver issue with Win 10 1803?

Hibernation is pointless on an SSD-based system. I disabled it completely.

Not too fussed about Wifi as I'm using Ethernet 99% of the time. Wifi is useful if you have Killer Doubleshot, but to me that was just a gimmick and outright broke my internet access sometimes. Most likely drivers vs Win 10 as usual.

I'm not sure about 4k, but I own a NP9175 and the 1080p display also has color banding, though, not as severe as the image you linked. It may just come down to the specific screen you get. As far as I can tell, Sager/Clevo sometimes have a rotating stock for their screens.

I currently have an np8278 and the banding is so slight it doesn't bother me. This is what makes this so hard. It's subjective and what bothers one may not bother another. As I do a lot of video editing I need to be able to see if there are any compression artifacts, and if the banding is too much it may hide them.

    Thanks.

I love my Sager, but there's no such thing as a perfect laptop. The banding doesn't really bother me, I really only notice it on grayscale images that include some sort of gradient (A good example would be a Steam library/store page). That being said, if the banding were as bad as the image you linked, then I wouldn't be too happy with it. I guess I would describe the banding as "mild", then again, that description is highly subjective. If you're looking for a laptop to do photo/video editing, I'd recommend either an ASUS or MSI branded laptop. Sagers give the best performance-per-dollar, but to achieve this, their screens can leave you wanting more. I knew the screens wouldn't be as good as MSI or ASUS laptops when I purchased it, but primarily as a gamer, that wasn't a concern for me! I often times will use an external display since my fiance likes to watch me play The Witcher 3 and other RPGs with a good story, and I've never professionally edited a photo/video in my life. So it works, and I love it!

I want to end this post by saying that recommending another brand over Sager does NOT mean Sagers/Clevos are bad systems (cause they're definitely great!), but everyone has their own needs and you should pick a brand/model with strengths that work in your favor.

I will have to probably wait until I receive my laptop to know. It is very subjective.
Someone was complaining about banding on the following picture. But to me, this small level of banding is perfectly fine and wouldn't be enough to affect what I was doing.

I found your Wifi issue posts in the Killer 1550 thread. Looks like this is an ongoing issue. I just installed latest driver published on 04/06 on Killer website and the issue persists.

Is there something in the BIOS we need to change @Prema ?

Dont know what you're getting at. Yes, the 8086k isn't exactly a very exciting CPU, but at the same time it seems like the perfect fit for these laptops. These are some of the best binned 8700ks you can get. Boosting to 5GHz on a single core (whereas mine cant hit 5GHz at all). So, if I can get 5Ghz at the same power that mine takes to get 4.7GHz all core, I'm all for it. Will know tomorrow though.

Has anyone figured out how to get static/fixed voltage to work on these? I can make all the changes in the bios I want, but attempting to set something like 1.25v, I still end up with fluctuations up into the high 1.4~s

I would not worry about VID spikes under idle.

This system does not have LLC. It has IA AC/DC Loadline. If you set both to 1 (0.01 mOhm), the VID always matches the static voltage you set, no spikes or drops. Which looks nice, but IME works far worse than Loadline 0. Loadline 1 needs a static voltage 150-200mV higher for the same stability as Loadline 0, and causes premature 'EDP Other' throttling under heavy loads. Adding to the weirdness is that Loadline 1 with a higher VID reports lower package power than Loadline 0 with a lower VID. o_O

If you have an unlocked BIOS, it's in Advanced>CPU Power, VR & Performance>CPU - Power Management Control>CPU VR Settings>Core/IA VR Settings

But like I said, I do not recommend using AC/DC Loadline 1 on this system.

    Hi all,

for anyone who has an external keyboard, do you know if fn+1 will turn on the max fans, or will it only work with the built-in keyboard attached to the laptop?

Also, if the keyboard(external) has built in fn keys, would it still work? Just curious if anyone has experienced something similar as I was thinking of getting one!

    Cheers.
