I wouldn’t jump on the RTX bandwagon that fast, the gains for regular gaming aren’t that big and with RTX on you can count on some low frames

Xx8x series owners as usual should be set for some time performance wise.

@Donald@HIDevolution You guys do have upgrade service right? Much rather have the pros handle this process, especially when there’s LM and BIOS upgrade involved.

Thanks but i really need that updated drivers. Do you know anything about that 775dm3 model with kaby lake z170 chipset can upgradeable or not to z370 and coffe lake 8700k or 9700k cpu ? My manufacturer says it's not possible you should buy new one.

Unofficially you can flash the BIOS with an unofficial one and tape certain pins on the CPU to run 8th/9th gen chips.

Manufacturer is correct from official standpoint but it can be done

Cooling is the limiting factor so expect all core clocks in the 4.0-4.2ghz region without significant tweaks and/or mods

Could someone help me out with my audio problem. After an automatic windows update yesterday the sound of my p775TM became distorted (subdued sound with noise in the background). I've tried reinstalling the drivers, installing the audio mod, using system restore to revert to previous drivers, all without results. Anyone else having this issue?

Edit: this happened with the 'update' according to driver history (Dutch version of windows):

When you pre-installed did you remove the drivers and tell the OS to fully get rid of them in device manager?

EVOC High Performance Systems P775TM1 is now getting to the point of email alerts as to build progress. Yay! I had no concerns thru the holiday season and now to get alerts is heartening.

Have already gotten the CM U3 Plus and have got it fixed for fan power from wall outlet and not have to plug into the laptop itself for power.

The P775 does not have but one TB3 port so am now in process of looking for a good TB3 input to hub/dock. Need to run one external monitor and a couple of hard drives and External BluRay/DVD burner. I doubt seriously that the hub/dock can do anything toward charging the P775 so doubt that matters.

So there I do be to date.

Yes, I cleaned up everything... After another system restore + installing previous drivers + latest Sound blaster x connect 2 the sound became... acceptable, but still not like before. However. Despite disabling windows automatic updates in the Obsidian control station Windows reinstalled the Realtek driver that distorts the sound. So I installed this modded driver: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...win7-win8-win8-1-win10-post-your-mods.250915/

Now the sound is ok with some soundblaster 720 settings, but still not as it was before :-(

Don't forget to set the BIOS to route the displayport signal through the TB3 port if you want to run a display off it.

Hey, do any of y'all have issues with the charging cable falling out? It happens to me all the time, when it's on me, and when I'm sleeping.
Would you guys have any ideas as to how to make it stick and not fall out anymore? I don't wanna use anything permanent like super glue.

Please take a HDR (at least 4k) image of the charging cable end and of the charging port please. If you can't post it here, upload it to IMGUR and post the direct link.

I'm a bit confused about these pictures.
Where are the 4 "pins" that are supposed to be in the AC jack?
It looks like the entire AC port itself comes out of the PSU plug or something.
There are supposed to be 4 pins in the AC jack on the laptop, and the 4 holes on the PSU plug attach to that.
Are you saying the entire housing of the AC plug just comes off by itself?

If that's the case you need to just buy a new AC adapter.
It looks like the entire housing on the main plug is just warped or something (comparing it to mine), you can see that weird tiny 'bulge' in the bottom.

So yeah. How long has it been doing that?
You should have bought a new PSU a long time ago.

I can't really remember how long it's been doing that, just that one day it started falling out by itself, no matter how hard I push it in. Didn't know it was supposed to clip into something inside. I've never had a laptop charger do this to me before, maybe it's because they're thinner and longer, but it's annoying. I don't really want to spend $100 on a new charger, since the issue might still happen.

It looks like the plastic around the holes on the jack has worn a bit. That cant be tightened up, but the metal collar can be bent smaller (which will remove the gap at the bottom) to contact the AC end of the plug better.

These plugs just don't do well over time when the weight of the cable pulls down on them. They really need to be only used when supported, like on a desk.

    Hi there!
I see that the new P775TM laptop with RTX 2080 and 9th gen CPU is up for pre order with shipping on 29 Jan.
    Any news regarding cooling?
Did Clevo update the cooling or it is using the same one ?

After seeing the alternative to the P775TM made by Alienware, I now have some concerns...unless Clevo comes out with a completely redesigned cooling solution, AW's machine is going to kick the P775TM's a*s :(

Given AW’s recent track record with their notebook cooling, I wouldn’t get my hopes up just yet. It’s still a shared cooling design, unlike the P775TM.

Yes but overall it has more heatpipes and only 2 are shared.

ALso, lets not forget that the P775TM stayed Z370, while the AW is Z390.

It has 7 heatpipes but 2 are shared, while the P775 has 6 non-shared heatpipes. The P775’s non-unified HS is also less likely to have contact issues due to poor QC, which has affected AW (and Clevo’s) unified heatsinks for a long time, and is easier to fix if you do have poor fit. An i9 and RTX 2080 is not the type of hardware config you want a significant amount of heat bleed in. The P775 has trouble handling the 9900K as it is, so if the cooling on the AW is a wash, that’s still not good enough.

Z390 is not a significant improvement over Z370.

    Hey everyone,

I have been following for a while and doing a lot of research on laptops and I have been pretty confident that I will be getting the p775tm (9900K). I was going to order one with the 1080 when I started hearing that the 2080s were probably going to drop early this year. Thanks to CES 2019, we know that's happening.

I have looked around at a lot of resellers and definitely want to order from someone that is a Perma partner so I can get the perma bios, and landed on LPCDigital. Their website hasn't changed with the resent updates about the 20 series cards, does anyone know when pre-orders will be starting with them? I would love to get on the ground floor for this, unless we should wait for some numbers on cooling o_O especially with the post above about the AW and their cooling system, I would love to see some comparisons but I know that will take a bit.

For a top-tier config like that, I would strongly recommend looking at the P870TM instead as it has vastly superior cooling. With the amount of heat these components spew out, they need all the help they can get.

Thanks for the recommendation! I will start looking into those more so. I have heard HIDevolution offers some of the best cooling and Perma bios, so I feel like I will probably lean that way. I know delidding is a must in a system like this, are there any other cooling upgrades that are highly recommended? Like the Fujipoly termal pads, or the Vapor chambers for the gpu.

As far as the Screens go. What is the standard to look for when looking for compatibility if upgrading in the future? Are there or will there ever be 1ms monitors we can pop into these bad boys?

Yes, the Fujipoly pads and GPU vapor chamber are recommended, although not sure if the latter is available for the RTX 2080.

There is a 3ms TN panel that would work, but you would have to install it aftermarket as it’s not an official config, and you would lose G-Sync.
