We don't support this version bios because on manufacturer server is available newest v20 only. Maybe xmg modified this bios. I don't know.

Anyone else experiencing a strange bug?
I have the CPU set at 4.5 Ghz with 130mV UV and it is stable during Cinebench and no BSOD during gaming. However sometimes I see a strange bug in Fire Strike and the CPU frequency drops down to 3.7 Ghz.
Screenshot:
The CPU is set at x45 in the BIOS but will remain at x37 until I reboot.
What I have tried so far:
- reinstalling .13 EC
- upgrading BIOS from the factory .18 to .20
- reinstalling windows
- using Obsidian's software instead of CCC
Nothing fixed it. it does not happen always, it is totally random.
Any idea why is this happening?
Is this a critical bug in the Clevo EC ?
@Prema have you experienced something like this in the factory bios ?Last edited: Mar 10, 2019FTW_260 likes this. -

Firestrike is more demanding, you are likely hitting a power limit.
-
1) I have set the pl1 and pl2 120W in the BIOS
2) it is totally random when it happens
3) Crysis 3 is more power intensive and it does not happen there. During Crysis 3 it pulls 273W from the wall and during FS the maximum pulled was 260W during graphics test and 160W during the CPU test, so the 330W power brick still has some breathing room
Maybe it is a bug in the cpu microcode which gets triggered by Fire Strike ?
Just checked Cinebench, even there sometimes Turbo boost just disables during load ...
After all these years I thought Clevo fixed embarrassing bugs like these...I was wrong :/Last edited: Mar 10, 2019 -
Sorry -

Here is a screenshot of Fire Strike when the bug did not occur:
Notice that when the CPU clock is stable then gpu memory clock drops during physics test, however when the CPU clock bug occurs then the gpu memory clock does not drop.
My first guess would be a pretty embarrassing bug in the Clevo bios ... -
Maybe too high vrm temps ? Or still too much undervolt

Also the likes of XTU will give you a throttle reason.

@Donald@HIDevolution Is there a BIOS update? I'm on 1.05.EVOC1.5.

Anyone tried installing a B173HAN04.0 panel inside this laptop?
I found one on Ebay for $90 and the seller says the panel itself support GSync.
It is also a 144 hz panel like the B173HAN03.1, however it is a true 8 bit panel so much less banding and it has 3 ms g2g response time instead of 9 ms like the B173HAN03.1.
I wonder if G-Sync would work or the panel is not whitelisted in the BIOS so GSync would be disabled ... if everything would work $90 does not seem a big deal for better colors, less banding and better response time. -
Anyways, after some more testing with my CPU I have a feeling that its a bad CPU. Nothing I do keeps my temps bellow 92C. It could be a bad delid or just a horrible CPU. Kinda want to try my luck with a 8086K or 9900K but its just so expensive here in the UK. -
We have had an extremely close relationship with CLEVO CO. (Taiwan) for 25 years (dating back to Clevo dealing with our sister company "tronic´5 mobile Computer GmbH" in the 1990's) and for years we have intensified our R&D cooperation with Clevo. We have recently gone so far as sending one of our best Product Managers to a permanent posting in Taipei, Taiwan for more close cooperation. Due to this partnership and to direct and personal contact windows to R&D and FAE staff in Clevo, we sometimes might have access to new major BIOS releases before they are posted to public FAE newsletters and Clevo's own download server.
The version number scheme of the BIOS versions we post online are not created by us, but by our contacts in Clevo.
If a version is called 1.07.21, then it is indeed based on upcoming 1.07.21.
The "TR" suffix indicated additional customization that have been made on our behalf. These usually affect power management, fan tables and now - since 2019 - a new set of BIOS options we call "Premium BIOS". We will outline these new features in a new thread overview soon.
Indeed, the P7xxTM with i9-9900K is hardly equipped to handle serious CPU overclocking. We currently recommend doing per-user Undervolting optimization but leaving PL1, PL2, Clock and Multiplier at default levels, in order to keep the system stable.
We also recommend updating to the latest Clevo Control Center, as Clevo has introduced more fine-tuned Performance settings into their "Entertainment" / "Performance" profiles. These profiles trigger changes in PL1, PL2, Tau while keeping CPU Temperature Target at the same level.
We welcome working more closely together with experienced community members like you. Feel free to send a message to [email protected] for more details.
Cheers,

Will turbo on all cores drop hard on full load and how hard ? or will they still be high, lets say higher than @4.5?ChrisHW likes this. -
I have reflashed:
- EC
- 2nd EC
- BIOS 1.07.18.
One of the above seems to have fixed the strange gpu memory clock behavior during the Fire Strike test:
No more drop during the test.
However very rarely (1/10 run) the CPU clock still dropped to the base 3.7 Ghz.
What seems to have fixed it:
- uninstall CCC
- restore BIOS default settings
- manually set everything again in the BIOS
- use Obsidian's keyboard and fancontroll instead
No more drops since then.
So it seems my issue was both CCC and EC/BIOS related.Papusan likes this. -
I found that even when CCC is uninstalled, intel xtu process it uses still is active in the background after CCC has been removed.
You can check the services, with something like autoruns > services "xtu3service" probably is still there.
For me removing it fixes some weird things.
When you uncheck it from servies. you can then delete it from your drive. -
This panel is EOL and is not validated anymore with recent models and EC/BIOS major releases. Do you anticipate any problems?
We still have plenty of spare stock of this panel and we can sell you 1 unit of you're interested. Since I can't monitor this thread full-time, feel free to send detailed requests to [email protected]
Cheers,

I reinstalled Windows, only Obsidian software is installed however after the 3rd Fire Strike run I got a drop again:
Also getting EC warning:
I do not see any WHEA warnings in the event log, but can these EC warnings and errors be because the CPU is not getting enough voltage? Or they are not related ?Last edited: Mar 12, 2019 -
I upgraded to the XMG 1.07.21 and same thing happens. It is fine for a few runs but after a random time of Fire Strike runs it start to give ACPI warning or error and the core clock drops:
So far the drop was the largest with the XMG BIOS.
The ACPI warning was the same as before:
There was no ACPI warning until the cpu clock dropped so I assume they are related. This is on a freshly installed Windows and the Obisidan software says that all my drivers are up to date or even ahead.
Can this be related to the set voltage ?
Or maybe the XMP Profile 1 setting made by Clevo is garbage and causing a bug ?Last edited: Mar 12, 2019 -

Do you have any monitoring apps open while it runs?
-
-
To roll out the possibility of instability I only overclocked to 4.5 Ghz.
I do not think the set voltage is the issue at least on other laptops and on my desktop if I give it too low voltage it just give BSOD and not just disable turbo. -
But If you look after errors default is a good start. And from what I can remember... The -100mv undervolt was removed in Prema mod.raz8020 likes this. -

Does anyone have the latest CCC v2.0?

On another note, I've managed to OC my GTX 1080 to 1860/10800 @ 0.925v after re pasting with kryonaut, seems stable with fire strike and heaven. It was using some crappy grey/black stuff before and it was all hard like cement. Took me a good 30mins to get rid if it. -
Does this fit into standard 17.3" laptop backpacks ?I was planning on getting a larger one, but the only 18" bag I can find is the Everki Titan, and that is one expensive backpack. Any recommendations for a backpack that can hold this ?

I'm seriously thinking about buying a CoolerMaster U3 and slapping some EK vardar fans on it, but its so expensive... £100
I'm hitting VR Current Limit even though i have it set to 900?Last edited: Mar 14, 2019 -

If cc 2.0.65 don't work on your rig. That's mean you have software issue. We install in standards this version on tm models and with our km series.

So, the alienwarers got their hands on 200w bios update for gpu, if im not mistaken
. Do we get something too
