Max fans is little bit loud, making me consider buying some noise isolating or an insulated headset.
GTX1080 is definitely cooking, would benefit from an extra heat pipe. I got inspired by @Mr. Fox T5 mods and will be fooling around with some non-permanent mods to the heat sink.

There is evidence of throttling indeed. It came with ICD and was tested as working properly. Should I try to re-seat the the GPU side?
I only have AS5 on hand, so I cannot repaste right now.

EDIT: CPU side working like a dream. 4.7Ghz stable with a -125 undervolt. Can't wait to really start ramping things up.

So is the T1 chassis *exactly* the same as the DM3 chassis? I mean, could I drop a T1 board into my 'old' DM3? (providing I could find one).

Thanks so much for this useful info. Would getting a 1080 with an 8700K, and then UNDERVOLTING the CPU help with the powe draw limit and throttling?

    Thank you Prema.
Technically there isn't an AC limit on MSI either. Just the EC tries to enforce it by cutting the CPU.
First it engages hybrid battery drain from the battery past a certain point (230W or 330W).
If the system is still drawing more than 230W (can't test 330W limit; I would need a TDP modded 1080), it will PL2 throttle the CPU to 45W. If this is still insufficient, it throttles it to *25W*. That's the limit though; it can't throttle anything past that if 25W isn't enough.

No idea what happens with the 330W power ID.
On the HM175 chipset versions using 17A1EMS1.112 (they don't have SLI configurations), exceeding 330W throttles the CPU to 800mhz.

This kind of retarded nonsense, and anything similar to it, is what gives laptops a bad reputation. There is no excuse for it and the people responsible for it need to be brutally beaten to within inches of losing their life, then tied down naked in a bed of fire ants for 5 minutes before hosing them off with freezing cold ice water. Their crimes against us all are totally unforgivable.

As a person who still wait his beast to come.
What is your opinion of this laptop? Specially for normal using without any undervolt or overclock or whatever.
    I chose 8700K with GTX1070.

What can you tell me about this laptop to care about before I receive it?

What's the total power draw limit for P75xTM/p77xTM and (P870TM1 with single/Sli) stock firmware? I expect for Sli this is around 495/500w. Thanks

Depending on how high the motherboard will support overclocking the CPU (voltage limit) you will be looking at as much as or slightly more than 180W just for the 8700K after @Prema is done removing the cancer cells. In case that helps with the math. I notice it pulls a whole lot more watts at 5.2GHz than it does at 5.0GHz.

Is there a difference between the Clevo 775tm and the 870tm when outfitted with the same screen, cpu, vga, etc. besides the greater upgrade potential of the 870tm (as in, adding an additional gtx1080)?

A great, thanks for the quick reply! Does this mean that the p870 will have better cooling due to a larger number of fans, even with only a single gpu, compared to the p775, which only had two fans?

Good morning gents. It's been a long time since I've posted on here. I bought this beast 2 weeks ago and it came in last week. I bought it from XoticPC and I'm having an issue with the 8700K. This thing runs crazy hot. No matter what I do, either in the Clevo Control or Bios, the voltage refuses to change. I'm checking it with HWMonitor and I reset after I make a change and nothing. I see that it does change in the bios, but as far as I can tell it's not making any real world difference.
My settings are, x44 multi, 140 power limit.
    I've tried Adaptive and override voltage with a -50mv to -150 under-volt.
    Anyone else having this issue?

Can you try override and use 1080 as the voltage? It will help drop the temps by around 10C, raising the back also helps. Once you delid and put liquid metal between the ihs and cpu die, you'll notice significant temperature improvements.

it might cool the gpu a litl better. Best compare user results from p870 threads. prema said the tipping point for 775 is 1080, for p870 is sli. For just 1060 or 1070 dont think any reason to go p870 over 775 and ull save some in price and weight and easy exchangable battery. 1080 the jury is still out how well she can tame it but stock looks like so far can run kinna hot.

The undervolt is key. TS works well. I had the same issue with voltage not sticking. Hope that gets figured out unless thats what was intended by Clevo...

@Prema @Mr. Fox ... I know these laptops where never made with battery time in-mind but would it be possible to undervolt and power-starve the GPU? Do I need to flash the vbios?

The new laptops are in and tested and going out to thier customers.

most notably they seem almost exactly like the previous versions except they sport Coffeelake CPU's instead, and much of the hard work of the bios modding community is not yet finished with these.

I've tested three of these so far.

Drivers and chipset didn't matter, Clevo includes a CD that is essentially identical for either the versions I have.
    Example, EUROCOM X4C and X7C

Which are the P7xTM1's with single graphics cards and Coffeelake CPU's.

ALSO - now the 15" lineup has 1080 for this series as well, this is a new addition, as they previous only had support for the 1070 at best.

Either case, the new powerful 8700K laptops need 330W PSU's do not even bother with a 230W honestly you will have throttling issues, without any work arounds present at the moment.

I will add some photo's or benches later.

Anyone want to see anything in particular, just let me know !

Yes. P870 is a better product by every measurement. If you can afford it, go with the P870. It is the best laptop available anywhere if performance is the most important thing. And, it is really well made. That doesn't mean the P775 is no good, but it is less expensive and has more limitations. As you can see from the photos of the insides, the P870 is designed much better where it matters most. If you only want a single 1080, get the SLI vapor chamber for the P870 with only one GPU and the GPU will run extraordinarily cool.

Lol, sounds like Alienware. Had a 17in model with the 4700HQ and 980m in it that ended up getting 7 motherboard replacements and one full systems swap (which ended up with a nice upgrade). Said screw alienware and sold both (the only problem with the last motherboard was a bad HDMI port)

I have my 1070 undervolted. It's running stable at .893v locked at 1911 core and 4400 memory. I used MSI afterburner with the power graph to undervolt. On the Overclock fan profile, it tops out at 67*C under max load.

Been thinking about getting one of these, with the 1070 instead of the 1080. Have you experienced any issues with thermal throttling yet? Processor or GPU?

When I first got the laptop yes it did thermal throttle. So I did two things; Repaste and add some small copper heat-sinks. The thermal paste job was terrible from the factory. Dropped my temps 8*C on the GPU and 5*C on the CPU. The small copper heat-sinks dropped those temps another 2-3*C. I then began testing for a stable undervolt on the GPU. That worked wonders to drop my temps. Using Throttlestop to undervolt dropped my CPU temps a crazy amount too. I don't get anywhere close to thermal throttling on the auto fan profile now.
I have the CPU at 4.5Ghz now and my max temp with a stress test was 85*C. Not too shabby IMO.

Same here, 4.5Ghz is what I settled at for now using ICD. My 1080 needs a serious repasting-- its amazing how much heat it pumps out as it idle's at 50C. Can't complain about the 8700k never breaks a sweat.

Good idea, I'll try using the graph for now.

Given all the security problem with the Intel Management Engine is there a way to disable it on these laptops? It looks like Dell and some others are now making systems or releasing patches to disable it.

I recently ordered one of these machines and I have been reading through the threads here on thermal throttling. The machine has not arrived yet but I am wondering if I will run into thermal problems and what I can do about it. I am having the CPU delidded and the CPU+GPU using Grizzly Kryonaut. The system will have a 1080GTX and i7-8700K. I will not be doing any overclocking.

Ur cpu should run quite cool since ur deliddling, best to use liquid metal for the delid. Undervolt cpu will get it even cooler and kryonaut between cpu and heatsink. Kryonaut should also lower the temps some of the gpu as that is the best tim. Besides that try undervolt gpu. Someone here posted good results undervolting his 1070. Yet to know results from a 1080 undervolt. If still issues on gpu after that id consider a cooling pad and perhaps upgrading thermal pads

By a cooling pad do you mean a laptop cooler with fans on it that also raises the laptop off the table so there is more air movement under it? I already have those at work and at home and have found that they help quite a lot. Most of the benefit seems to just be from raising the laptop up and improving airflow but the fans also help.

Yes those, they seem to help drop temps a few degrees. Theres an interesting thread going now of users that modded their cooling pads for even better cooling :)

Time to tackle that 91C GTX1080. Today was game day... pads came in and I cracked her open.

Man this is a finicky heatsink! It was like the AW tripod all over again. All the pads where super thick like 2mm and really soft. I saved them just in case, but I swapped most out for Gelid 12w/mk pads. Nevertheless, I couldn't get the heatsink balanced and it kept on pumping out. I reseated the hs about 4 times and lowered the pads by .5mm. Spent about 4 hours and I couldn't get the temps low.

Had to tap out and do something else so I cleaned it all up and repasted the GPU Gelid Extreme.
Seems like it fixed it for now. Tamed the temps on the GTX1080. Where it would climb to 91C, now I have temps max at about 87C with zero thermal throttling.

I will need to work on this machine a bit longer. Busy with life now.

Can anyone provide the GPU pad sizes for the P755DM2/3?

Finally got mine in. CPU is amazing. With a slight undervolt (75mv) it runs locked at 4.6GHz across all cores. I need to figure out how to properly undervolt this GPU though. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this curve thing. I figured undervolting would involve simply dragging the initial values up so that you got a higher clock speed at a lower voltage, but that simply OCed the GPU lol. Went from 20k GPU score to 22k in Firestrike. Anyone wanna give me some pointers on the best way to undervolt these things? Would love to simply have access to the power limit slider, but I guess thats asking too much.

Yeah, thats with the 1080. I got the undervolt working. Got it stable at 1845mhz at 0.9v and that makes it hit 80~. Havent played any extended games on it yet (gotta transfer my drives out of my other laptop). So far pretty happy with this thing. Couldnt get Firestrike to run stable after undervolting (it crashed the first time and I think I need to restart lol). But Timespy is working fine. Here is my final result. https://www.3dmark.com/spy/2878089
Still need to fine tune the OC on both CPU and GPU, but I got a good foundation now.

Hmmm, I havent been monitoring my PCH temperature. I will now and let you know. Have you used Throttlestop to undervolt your CPU yet? I highly suggest you do that.

Does anyone know where the PCH is located? I got a nice small copper HS for it, but I cant find it.

So day 2 of trying to LM the GTX1080. 5 more hours... No dice.
I used some play-dough to measure the gaps and had them at about 2mm, a lil less then the spongy stock white pads.
Couldn't get the temps to stick, seemed like there wasn't enough pressure. I had better contact using 1.5mm pads.
There was 1 moment where my idle went to 30C and I got excited, as soon as I tried to bench 92C+ throttling. Wow.

Nevertheless since I was fooling around with stacking pads, I wasted my .5mm when I switched back to 2mm.
I ordered a whole bunch of new pads including 1.5mm specifically.

Now I want to determine if its still worth applying LM, cause its a huge pain and the risk of frying stuff still worries me.
Should I order more Conductonaut or just settle with some Kryonaut/Gelid.

What would I give for some pressure paper.

TLDR: Stock 92C+ throttling on ICD. Changed pads to 1.5mm, tried LM 4X didn't stick. Repasted with Gelid and stopped throttling and temps settled at 88-89C. Now measured pads and repadded at 2mm, 4X LM again, had an a tease. Settled with Gelid, but temps fluctuating and close to throttle.

    Any advice @Mr. Fox @Papusan @Phoenix ... Anyone?

PCH is most likely underneath the palm rest, so you will need to disassembly it to check it out. Hopefully, Clevo did not leave it bare die, but with the temps getting that hot they almost must have done so. They really need to start over on the P7 product line and revamp all of the thermal management with a new and better design. It also needs to be about 1/2 inch thicker with larger heat sink radiators and thicker fans, disconnect the unified heat sink, add larger grille openings in the bottom panel, etc.

Pascal GPUs are going to throttle and lose core clocks starting around 45-50°C and get progressively worse as the temps continue to rise. The retards at NVIDIA designed them to malfunction like that on purpose.

It's unfortunate that you made the mistake of buying from a vendor that is not a @Prema partner. At any rate, the latest P7 product line does not have a @Prema BIOS mod available for it at this time.
