Everyone! All together now: "We want HDMI-In on the re-design!"
-
Resellers / Builders:
If there's a chance you can get back to Clevo, let's summarize:
a) Single Power Adapter
b) HDMI-In
c) FULLY UNLOCKED BIOS for all voltages, clocks, etc. so we can try to fine tune OC-ing the system.
d) PC Express Card (that is, if it was truly removed) -
Thunderbolt? Anyone?
-
+1. Seconded!
-
Well I had to jump ship and move to the p170. I still want the 270 tho. Just bummed, and the timing was horrible a couple days earlier and I coulda made the switch and get it before class but I won't have this for class either
-
Oops didn't read well.
-
AND...... periodic status updates? Or am i being a wishful thinker
Im still a full time college student, so by no means do i have (alot of) money.
BUT, being a reservist in the military got me some benefits.... like "a student
loan repayment program." So... i kinda got some free money lolll..
And yes, Seaside by Monterey, PG, Salinas, Hour south of san jo, etc. -
Not sure this will be possible. Can you imagine a power brick that is half the size of the laptop? Thats what you might end up with.
Does anyone else find it strange that Aikimox has disappeared? It used to be that every time anyone bashed Alienware you could count on Aik coming forward in their defense. Now that the P270wm is all but dead and some of us are still refusing to "settle" for an AW, Aik is nowhere to be found. What gives? -
-
Ahahahaha, I did the EXACT same thing!!
It's like when I compromise and try to take a fat chick home, but chicken out mid-way because my brain takes over and makes me realize what a massive mistake it'd be.
Er, I mean, th-that happened to a friend of mine, he just told me the story. o_o -
The power brick on the M18x is 330W and half the size of ours. I'm guessing that Clevo is using a cheaper design to save money.
-
Good point.. I think clevo is using older technology that's it.
-
I was stationed there for a few years. Loved the area. Compagno's deli, in Pac Grove has the best Sammiches in the world.
-
He has joined the cult of Apple...
-
LOL.... this reminds me of when my wife and I went to get new phones this past thanksgiving. She wanted an iphone and tried to get me to also get one. I refused. I'll never join the apple lemmings. -
A bit off topic.... but what else is there to say, the laptop of my dreams got snatched T^T
Lemmings is right. Most people I know get apple just because its mainstream. Me personally, prefer to be able to customize my phone, flash roms and actually have a home screen with widgets.
DLI/Fort Ord is definitely a beautiful place. Its the mild weather that makes the place irresistible. -
And the sammiches. So many people complained about it being cold frequently, I never understood that. Of the places I've been stationed, other than Spokane, I liked the weather there the best.
-
Aik has decided to try his hand in the land of apples... http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...evo-p270wm-owners-lounge-123.html#post8474941
However, as I warned him, that camp also comes with its share of issues - particularly heat. The Mac Book Air/Pro both have reputations for being an actual Toaster. Turns out Aik found that out first hand - follow the link he posted. -
I'm still here, Bro. The last AW refresh was a complete disappointment for me. Not gonna defend it anymore. After over a year of bashing, not a single item from our wishlist was improved by Dell. Just a bunch of naive and stupid punks, that who we are for Dell, lol (as if it could be otherwise...). All I wanted was a matte and higher gamut screen option. Not a chance. All they did was upgrading to Ivy and adding and extra HDD slot + mSata. Nice for those who need more storage but totally useless for me.
Anyway, I'm no longer interested in big gaming machines, from now on it's ultraportables time. Currently into macbooks but still looking for the absolute beast.
Macs look like a great choice to me even with all the heat. I don't really need the CPU power in an ultra-portable device, so what I did was lock the frequencies of my MBA @ stock and disable turbo. The temps are now perfectly cool and I don't feel any performance decrease. It would be great if apple did a cooling overhaul for the upcoming refresh, but oh well, we can't have everything.... -
I'm new to this...and I'm honestly not dissing Sager. I've wanted one, for so long. And I've been saving. for so long. so im good for this decision.
But i cant wait another 6 months. I wanted this guy so bad.
And the only thing i can find that's close is the M18x. I'll be jumping on the 4 year accidental plan they have as well, so hopefully the customer service should be "easier" in theory.
The main problem I have is, I already bought a Sager for my girlfriend for Christmas and we've been waiting patiently sense December. And I'm not doing this again.
Can anyone talk me out of this? Does anyone have a better idea for an SLi / Crossfire laptop that's better quality, better design, better anything? -
x7200 won't have the 2011 CPUs but it's still second gen sandy bridge, possibly Ivy bridge as well. Should be able to sport the same GPUs. No backlit keyboard. Basically the precursor to the 270, but still capable of holding most of the same components. I'm looking at that as an option, Myth is planning on resetting up their configurator to build those.
-
I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but x7200 is a total piece of crap with no backlit keyboard and old components.. I'd suggest P170EM with AMD 7970M, or if you like the green team wait for 680M. Or new AW.
-
170, won't hack it. And would you like to expound on why the x7200 is a piece of crap? If you notice, I'd mentioned it had no backlighting. And If I'm waiting I'll wait on the 270, I've already paid for.
-
I really doubt it'll be 6 months. I've talked to tons of re-sellers who have all given me 1-3 month time periods. Metabox in Australia thinks they'll be able to get it within the next month or so.
6 months is far too long for Clevo to go without a brick laptop. They can't just cancel it either, it'd be really tedious for re-sellers to refund everyone who's paid for it so far.
In my opinion, the delay will be anywhere between a month to four months. Do remember that they do have an idea of what the motherboard will be like (they aren't designing the first laptop motherboard to host a desktop processor) and that they probably have a lot of people working on it.
Also, for x7200 - If it can sport xfire 7970M and the older desktop CPU's, I won't care. Even the older i7 950X (whatever it was) is faster than the 3920XM (I think that's what it's called
) - it's still a great processor.
Do remember that CPU isn't as big a factor in games as the GPU. As long as there is no bottlenecking, it isn't too big a deal. -
Some new informations I just received from my reseller:
*) 7970M is not yet available for P170EM, it will be available for P150 (!) in mid-may (then, mass production STARTS, so it takes probably till the end of may until they will be shipped). There is no release date yet for the P170EM - 7970M-cards (the cards are somehow different, there are different cards for the P150 than for the P170). I don't know, if it's different in the US, since my reseller is located in Europe.
*) The Clevo P270WM should be available within max. 2 months, most likely Mid-June -
Nope, the 3920xm will be faster across the board - it's unlocked and can be pushed past 4.5ghz on all cores. You can't do that on the x7200.
-
LOL! If the lack of a backlit keyboard is your first criteria on what is a POC or not a POC, I find that a laugh riot!
The i7-990X is still a champ of a CPU (hexcores for those of us who need it vs. a step down to quad core) and with vendors committing to actual support for the AMD 7970 already in place awaiting its release (and also there's supposed support of NVidia 680m upon its release as well), about the only thing that lacks is a SATA II interface, but even that is bearable.
With that said, I would steer people away from a model which has already been EOL'd (put out to pasture). Model specific components and parts will be harder to come by, and there's no reason to spend money on something that will become more and more difficult to repair as time moves forward. If ppl can wait the extra months, then wait. Just my $0.02.
Also, don't forget, we never got a chance to know what would've been locked/unlocked for the i7-3960X/3930K on the P270WM either. -
The pessimist in me says I'll believe it when I see it. No offense to you, of course, but this machine has gone through so many delays already I would be surprised to see it released before Thanksgiving (late November for the Canadians and Euros). -
Yeah, but until then, the 7970M will not be released here, so I have to wait anyways. I don't know if it is even available in the US yet.
-
You have proved my point on having older components very well.
-
OIC. Took what you said about "old components" to mean CPU/GPU, but that is obviously not the case, as until the P270WM is released, the x7200 is still one of the most powerful lappies on the planet.
NP in proving your point, but please try to clarify posts of this nature in the future. -
Everything in this thread pertaining to delays is just guesswork and speculation.
Nobody, not you or I, nor any of the resellers, actually have any concrete timeframe for when it will be released. When was it supposed to be originally released.. was it March? Then mid-April? Then late-April? Then mid-May? And now F-it-no-one-has-any-idea.
Point is, for anyone watching this thread, don't give an ounce of credence to any claims regarding when this notebook will be released. If you've read all 140-some pages thus far, you already know this. It will be released when it's released. -
Absolutely agree, plus if it were to be released (when ever that is) official word will be out by clevo or it's resellers..
-
I just received an email from XoticPC that the NP9270 I ordered was brought back to the drawing board? Hmmm. . . All those months of waiting and still nothing. And they said that Sager will give a $50 discount if we switch to NP9170. Here's another speculation: 1. What if they halted the release of the NP9270 so that they can boost the sales of the NP9170 ( which is already available for production and shipping ) and offering a $50 discount on the laptop. And when they've reached good sales for the NP9170, later on they will announce that the NP9270 is working ok and is ready for production. 2. Or the NP9270 doesn't actually exist but is only a phantom of the X7200 which they have announced in the market so that people will start pre-ordering them. But since it didn't exist, they will then say that " Why not try our NP9170 and we will give a $50 discount on it"
What if all these was just a marketing strategy to lure those who loved the NP9270 ( which nobody actually saw it in any reviews or videos ) into loving the NP9170 instead. Then again all these are just my opinion. I will only believe the NP9270 exist if Clevo or Sager will show proof that they have been working on this one, otherwise I will bail out and find another laptop. Sorry for being harsh. . . -
This isn't some bogus marketing scam. You all saw the vids posted by Pro-Star and others of the P270WM in a different thread. It just has a 50% failure rate [of some unknown reason(s)/component(s)], which Sager--the most influential Clevo partner--deemed to be 'unsatisfactory.' As a direct result of that dissatisfaction, Clevo tried hard to resolve the issue, but did so unsuccessfully. In order to truly solve the problem(s) with the P270WM, a motherboard redesign is required. It's just that simple, although I (and many others) still yearn to know what the heck caused the high failure rate, and why the motherboard must be redesigned. DXG mentioned something about it being Intel's fault, but has not elaborated about it since making that comment.
We can take this opportunity of a re-design to voice our concerns about features we want included on Clevo's flagship model. These features include:
1. HDMI-In! Even if it's the crappy 720p-only HDMI-In!
2. A single 600W power brick.
3. Thunderbolt.
4. A partially unlocked BIOS (voltages can remain hidden and tweakable only with the Intel XTU).
Sager's action to not ship a 'broken' high-demand product should be commended, as some of the long time forum members remember the whole Alienware m15x w/8800m GTX fun times. I'm sure MrDJ would love to recount those 'good' old days. -
That can't be true, because test models of P270WM were sent to resellers to test it. And videos to it are awailable on YouTube. -
And so begins the Conspiracy Theories.......
-
5. How about... 3 way crossfire with 7970m (maybe it would have to burn a drive bay, sure)
6. Whatever the best desktop CPUs available on the market when the P270wm ships - 3960X / 3930K, etc
7. 32 GB ram @ 1866MHZ dual channel
all as options ofc. (it's not like people who buy this thing have a budget) -
Assuming specs do not change for the p270WM:
#5 - no room in any drive bay for a 3rd GPU plus heat sink.
#6 - is already there
#7 - is already there, but at DDR3 1600 MHz - per the i7-3960X CPU*

Here's a review by our very own Notebook Review - http://www.notebookreview.com/defau...vadirect+clevo+p270wm+nvidia+gtx+675m+sli&p=2 -
yeah when I was building mine I noticed there is no 1866mhz flavor for 32GB. That's a CPU limitation then?
-
I'm not an expert, and it might very well be a configurable value, but I'm going with the data on the Intel page regarding memory types.
The same thing goes for those wanting more than two SATA III ports, which is a limitation of the X79 chipset. -
Hi!Who know a BEST IPS screen for p270?
-
and better cpu/gpu heatsink, though water cooling is too far, but vapor chamber will be good
more phase power unit, all spcap/poscap, cpl digital inductor
-
problem is an oce'd to 4.5ghz 3960x would draw over 100W extra power and there's absolutely no way Clevo would add that much to their CPU HS. We've been begging Dell to add 20W to their M18x HS for almost a year - zilt!
The best would the IPS panel from HP8760w or Dell M6600 -
^ Doesn't the IPS panel from those laptops have a different socket?
-
-
IPS panel from P8760w or Dell M6600 compability Clevo P270 or Clevo X7200?
-
IPS panel has two connectors (50+20pins).
-
... For me, I'd go w/ the a single, lowest GPU they made. Heck, I'd shove a 460m in it if they sold it.
I wonder ehat kind of extra TDP room would that provide. -
Clevo dont have any IPS panel???i true?
