Doesn't work like that. If the product was cancelled that close to production, it means there's a huge time loss before something great can be brought to the table. Unless, Clevo completely redesigns the beast in a few months, there's no hope. Those of you looking for power machines should focus on the 18" Clevo and AW as the only 2 laptops to have maximum power and features.

I am sure they will provide external GPU SLI in a couple of months, but maybe they have the brilliant idea to continue stuffing some 130W GPUs in a small laptop chassis and break new records.

Not imaginary, but rather delayed or scrapped depending on any news we finally get out of Clevo for what's next.

I hope this thread is kept active. It's useful to discuss news about potential replacements - either intended replacements such as the Clevo P272WM / P370EM (or whatever) - or unintended "replacements" such as "hey this alienware laptop has specs that people who wanted the P270WM would be interested in"

Why? it was just a one-off. I can't figure out how Sheereen got that huge image in her(?) sig, I'd say that's a bit more irksome on a thread. I can't even get an avatar to load.

Okay... so what I gathered... from Sager... is that there were a lot of unknown issues that were arising, when there a lot of unknown issues, there was no way for them to repair it. They said that it was sent back to clevo to redesign the motherboard and from Sager themselves they said it would be probably be 8 months. You can call sager directly and ask them... thats where I got my info...

    Decisions...Decisions.

Jeeze it was all I could do sans Photoshop being on my system as it had just come in from Sager (they repaired the hinge issue) and I was hoping ehh I'll have my new laptop in I'll be sending this one off to someone rather not bombard it with applications. I have it hosted on my own webhosting...although that isnt working for the profile pics/avatar either...just in the siggy...

No real beef, it's just massive (seemingly, maybe it's just the colors, so it pops out more). So I wasn't sure why one image macro was being called out.

Here is the statement from Clevo:

    #### First, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience recent P270WM.

Please cancel the outstanding orders for the P270WM.

Although an unlikely scenario, everyday life, which should P270WM a continuous three days at full load burn-in are at the beginning of the 3rd Day is a "1/30 chance" to restart the device.

Our current approach provides a complete "Re-layout" of the motherboard.

Please understand that P270WM a flagship product for us and as "a matter of honor" is, we will not start shipping until we are 100% satisfied with performance and reliability.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused. ####

Just used Google translator for a quick post. Statement was posted in a german forum.

    Got this from OriginPC:

    Hello again,

I was just given another critical update on your order and wanted to reach out to you immediately.

Unfortunately, the latest information is that our notebook partners have further delayed the EON17X product. The new expected date is now set for Q4 of this year. It is because of this that we have now removed the unit from our website. This is an industry wide issue impacting all companies selling this laptop design, not just ORIGIN PC.

I truly apologize for this. It is not what ORIGIN PC wants for its customers to experience

We now have a couple of options for you.

First, we can change your order to another ORIGIN PC product from our website, desktop or laptop. For your patience, we will offer you a free 128GB SSD hardrive and free ground shipping for this new order. Or, if you have no need for an SSD, a $100 discount and free ground shipping. Please note that this offer cannot be applied to the ORIGIN Chronos Review unit.

Second, we can cancel your order and issue you a full refund of any money that may have been collected. With your permission, I would like to place your e-mail on waiting list and contact you once the EON17X is available.

I again apologize for this situation.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I will await your decision.

    Sincerely,

    Miguel Ocando

My comment wasn't meant to be taken as gospel, it was merely a guess. This can be taken to mean that I really have no freakin' idea if or when this PC will be released. And no one else here does either.

By the way, if it is an eight month delay, where does that put the next possible release date? Q1 of 2013. Of course, this assumes the project wasn't tossed in the crapper.

All these other posts above are just a re-post of everything that we already knew, which is yes its an entire re-design of the motherboard, it hasn't been cancelled not by a long shot. When will we see the new "redesigned" motherboard? Its all speculation at this point. But we've confirmed with multiple sources that the P270 will still be released as soon as they can correct the issues. Of course we are as disappointed as everyone else by this news. The "cancelled" that you see was the request by Clevo to its direct partners for any and all stock remaining that they had so that they didn't release any more stock. Everyone was issued a credit or a trade in kind from Clevo.

So yes its coming, just don't know when yet =)

There are some up for sale on EBAY. I wish Myth could get a hold of one for a reasonable price and still put parts in it. 1 in 30 after 3 days of full labor intensive use... That'll never happen for me. I don't think I've ever gotten my desktop to full load, and this thing kicks its butt. Plus I plan to actually use it as a laptop, so it will never be running for 3 days straight. MYTH if you can still acquire me one of these ones, I'll take it.

That would be a trade to the importers, aka like send us back the P270's and here is a pile of P150's or W110's not to end-user customers.

Those on ebay were both from Eurocom directly, so if I was a betting man I don't think those people got a P270 laptop, just a guess. Trust me we keep an eye out for them, but there are less than a 100 around the world at the moment.

I was just saying if one could be acquired... that the failure rate was fine in my book. It doesn't even sound like a failure honestly, it reboots...

Due to the controversy my original post created I would like to recall that until I have had time to recheck the information. For other resellers, if not a misunderstanding, this information is completely new so do not refer to old information in your statements.

As previously stated, multiple verifications prevent these kinds of things from happening. Since there was never any other verification from other resellers/builders, no real harm was done. If, however, you and others receive updated information, from an official source (which can be verified by multiple sources), please keep this thread updated.

    Other than that, apology accepted.

I guess I'll just go with the m18x. I thought it was of bad value, but for $2699 you can get 7970M Xfire, 3720QM and 6 GB 1600 mHz RAM. It's one of the few laptops you can configure in such a fashion.

It'll have to do for me.

i love it how the dual 7970m is 45€ cheaper than the dual 675m lol

yeah, i don't think they rip you off too much with this one, the only points i would consider are

    • More Battery lifetime vs Desktop CPU
    • the 18" screen vs 3D screen
    • get it right now or wait 6months..

I'll wait 6 months rather than settle for something thats way overpriced and not really what I wanted in the first place.

If the P270 project gets canned I will have no choice but to consider another option, but I guarantee an AW won't even be on the list. And it isn't because I feel the AW is a bad machine, they just want too much money for them.

Well it depends on the sales rep you talk to. The one I talked to gave me an awesome quote, they gave me a 16% discount and half price on warranty.

The last one I spoke to didn't offer squat for a discount; he wanted full price. When I asked about any rebates or discounts, all he offered was no interest financing for 12 months.

I politely told him what he could do with his laptop.

Thats the thing I keep getting with Dell/AW. Others talk about the great deals they are offered when speaking to someone directly. I have now spoken with 3 different sales reps and each one wouldn't budge a penny off full price. I guess I keep speaking to the wrong people.

In a way... The fact of the matter, you can get a 15-20% off on AW systems.

Yes, you may need to try more reps.
Yes, you may have to change the strategy of how you talk to sales.
Yes, you may have to gather some patience and keep an eye on the deals that refresh every 2 weeks or so.

One thing I know for sure from my experience with both vendors: AW will always be cheaper (at least in the US and Canada) if the timing is right. Even with my reseller discount at Sager, I can still get a better deal from Dell hands down with a ~10% off (rep discount) applied after adding a special deal to shopping cart. If only I had a military discount (served in Europe), the price would be slashed by another 20%+!

Anyway, there's no choice. It's either AW or Clevo. ASUS, MSI and other toys aren't even close to the level of performance and features offered by the titans. So, if you turn away from AW and the P270WM is canceled, you have no options. Well, you can always join me in the Apple realm, haha

If I could buy that configuration for that price, no problem. However Alienware is like one of those furniture stores who offer %80 off of an already %200 inflated price. Two of the most dreaded things to me are buying from specific car brands and furniture stores is their options, sales and scamming. I prefer to go into a sale with no sales gimmicks or markdowns. Negotiating points off of a sale really takes away the experience for me. I’m not good at it while some people live to negotiate a price – I don’t. It’s exhausting to think I want to call multiple Dell reps trying to scam a discount. Lol. One of the main things that attracted me to Clevo/Sager is their pricing/marketing strategy. All of their resellers appear to be bound by specific guidelines or competition for rebranding the same constraints with regards to pricing and options. After researching and testing multiple websites who are rebranding/reselling the Sager/Clevo, all the way to the shopping cart, I could only discern a couple bucks difference from each other. You get what you pay for without all of the Area 51 Alien Hype stuff.

I’d rather stick a hot poker in my right eye then be forced into buy and Alienware out of sheer desperation. I transferred my delayed 270 into a P170 and will wait to see what the redesigned 270 offers when it gets here. It’ll be exciting to see how the video cards shake out by then and what’s configurable in the new system. Lots of speculation and lots of hope for features we all want, i.e., Single Power Supply for crossfire/SLI, etc.

Fortunately I am in no hurry, my system I have is fine for now. My problem may be where will tech be in 6 months. If I am to spend this kind of money I want to be sure I am buying into not only the high end but of current and newly released tech....................

I agree about marketing scam, would be great to have a reasonable and fixed price and save time and hassle. As for the Area 51 hype stuff, dunno... I never really cared about logos, only sheer power and more power! And when it comes to power, AW is the top dog. Period. Yes, both the M18x and P180 have similar configs but it's only on paper. As soon as you start stressing, benching and OC'ing, things get clear. There's no real competition. We have seen 5.3ghz on the CPU as well as 33k+ Vantage GPU scores achieved with M18xR1, clearly beyond what the X7200 or P180 could do. So, it's really not about hype or glowing heads, it's all about power (at least in my book).

One thing I love about Clevo flagships is the ability to upgrade the screen. That's a very strong point of sale, IMHO. I hate glossy stuff. Hate it so much, I'd switch camps just because of that.
