I am planning on playing games and video encoding. Can i overclock the CPU to 4.2ghz without any issues?

Is the extreme edition CPU OVERKILL for playing most games and can i get by with the 4900mq?

How can the CPU and GPU be overclocked SAFELY?

I wanted to play TOMB RAIDER on ULTIMATE with tressfx on with 60fps+ and i thought this configuration would be able to do it more easily. I figured if it could run TOMB RAIDER maxed out other games would NOT be a problem.

Any thoughts/suggestions on this configuration would be appreciated. I want this configuration bad....but thinking about price and OVERKILL.

    Sweet Build!

The Xtreme edition will likely be overkill for gaming. You could probably get by with the 4800, but if you wanted the extra assurance feel free to stick with the current CPU or 4900.

CPU can be overclocked to an extent via Intel XTU, haven't heard to what level yet but should be doable. GPU overclocking is usually done by MSI Afterburner. The safest way of doing it would be to have us do it with our Redline option. If you want to do it though, the key is small incremental steps and lots of testing to ensure stability.

Very interesting. Reminds me of the clock from LOST. In my opinion definitely something wrong with the hardware. Not sure what would be causing that only when you activate the fans turbo.

For gaming the 4930mx is overkill but for max potential if you can afford go all out with it :) I would from what I have heard and seen with my own eyes it can hit 4.3GHZ easily what it can hit max is another thing, I have heard guys with the new Alienware 18 hitting 4.5-4.8 but to hit 4.8 they have been using Dual PSU's. with the Dual 780m in SLI you will destroy Tomb Raider benchmarks with the 680m's in SLI have a min of 100 FPS :)

I received my P375SM from Mythlogic on Monday. Nothing but problems With Windows 8 Pro. Blue screen after blue screen with no rhyme nor reason. Tansferring data to the hard drives, blue screen. Machine sitting Idle, blue screen. I reinstalled Win 8 Pro myself with the same behavior so I don't think it is a Windows intall problem.

I am running 2 SATA SSDs in Raid 0 as the OS and Mythlogic seems to think that the Raid 0 does not play well with Win 8. Has anyone expereienced this issue? Myth want to change the Raid 0 out for a single SSD of the same capacity of the Raid. I want the Raid speed but I also want to step up to Win8.

    Here are my specs

    4930X
    32GB RAM
    780M SLI
    2 Plextory 256GB MSATA in Raid 0
    1TB SATA 7200RPM data drive
    Blu Ray burner.
    Single power supply.

Try running with one ram stick, if that stops the blue screens then it's the ram/ram config. If it still happens try each stick by itself.

I haven't heard of any issues with the Raid myself. I don't suppose you have alternate Msata drives laying around to swap in and test? I know some Msata are pretty finicky in random configurations and systems.

No additional Msata drives to test. I am not sure it is a RAM issue but I could try to test it.

Ram issues can be one of the main reasons for a system starting but being unstable.

Memtest should catch bad RAM correct?

Also a correction P370SM with 120Hz screen. Non bling edition.

Doesn't catch absolutely everything. It's a good thing to use to check for most every RAM issue, but there are some instances that it doesn't recreate every issue and cause the RAM to fail. Always a good thing to rule out and just assumed it had been done if Mythlogic was recommending getting rid of the Msata entirely.

My p375sm finally arrived, this notebook is awesome.... i just have a question.... is there anyone here that has the 375sm model with Xfire of HD8970m???? I'm not finding much information about it.
There are a lot of forums that talk about the Nvidia "god like"performance, i agree with that, but with some vbios mods and OC these AMD cards can give more juice am i right??

Nope. The 8970M cards are basically a very slightly stronger 7970M as far as I've seen. They are incapable of beating 780Ms that are OC'd well. The 680Ms and 7970Ms (and by expansion 8970Ms) all top out in the same field, but the 780Ms are in a class of their own.

Yeah i know the 780m is huge, as it's price (my big problem). That's why i´m trying AMD this time i just wanna know if there are others like me who go for AMD... or it was a mistake by me? To hope that vbios mods and so on would make it give more juice not to be like a 780m.

Cooling on this thing is great. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon at Ultra settings GPU temps stay around the 75. Saints Row: TT also runs fine on ultra capped at 60FPS (temps are around 70's). Battlefield 3 also runs like a charm on ultra around 55FPS on MP. CPU temps also never go higher than 90. I am realy impressed.

From the reviews that I have seen the AMD 8970m CF will outperform the 680m SLI and 7970m CF, but the 780m SLI will be untouchable overclocked :)

So I have a question for the Resellers and Builders here. When you install an OS for us, isn't is normal to run tests to make sure everything is working properly?

I ask because I was considering paying extra for the premium service that is said to be offered by Mythlogic, and for not having to deal with Sagar for Warranty work. However, this makes me wonder if I might just as well order from a reseller and save myself some money. After all, the Resellers I have seen here seem to be pretty much on the ball.

After almost a month of research I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on a P375SM. The config I want is no small amount of money, so I just want to be certain to cover as many bases as possible. Thanks!

Hi guys, I just got myself a P370SM3 from Mythlogic a while ago to replace my good old P170HM. Been playing Metro Last Light with 3D Vision. No hiccups with everything maxed out. Amazing!

    Hi All,

    Another issue I'm having.

My xfire 8970m are stuck in 450mhz core and 300mhz memory. I'm plugged in and 100% battery, windows power options high performance, control center power conservation: performance.

I tried switching drivers, currently I'm using 13.8b2 but I uninstalled them and let the machine auto configure the drivers, and still stuck at 450/300.

CPU is normal though, its at 3.2ghz

That's what I'm thinking of doing unless there is some news of the P375SM coming out with the 120 MHz monitor sometime soon. But then again I do like the look of the P370SM better with it looking more professional and less flashy.

A couple of pages back I read the discussion on if the 330W adapter is enough to power the 780m SLI, especially if overclocked.
Have anybody tried overclocking the 780m SLI yet? Is the 330W enough?

From a lot of reviews that I have read on here, you can over lock with one 330W PSU but if you are planning on doing some heavy overclocking then i would suggest dual PSU to get the maximum potential out of your unit. I think it's recommended if you have the 4900MQ-4930MX CPU.

Not thinking about heavy overclocking just some to have something to try out. I have only the 4700, so everything should be okay.

Mythlogic is more in the business of making you happy for as long as you own the machine. Sager's warranty in my experience has been... dumb, at best. They do not properly listen to you, though they eventually get things done, it could cause you a bit of headache. I did mine through XoticPC, but Xotic simply liaises with Sager for your warranty unless you have an XoticPC warranty. I can't speak for LPC digital or anyone else but those two.

That also sounds very weird about Mythlogic though, referring to the text you quoted. They say they test things before shipping; though it's entirely possible they tested a win 7 machine and the end user installed his own Windows 8 and something went crazy. But I really couldn't be sure about that. I usually don't see someone with a mythlogic machine complaining, which is what has solidified them as my choice if I ever get all the bloody money for my machine.

Did some more gaming on this machine. Sleeping Dogs benchmark at Ultra settings (no max AA though, since there's no difference between the 3 AA options and they will cut your FPS in half) run at an average of 94FPS. Slight OC on my 780M and temps are never higher than 82.

Steam Community :: Screenshot (Sleeping Dogs benchmark max settings, except normal AA, since extreme AA is unnecessary. With extreme AA however, it runs at an average of 50FPS.)

Also, while gaming, CPU (i7-4800MQ, no OC) temps also never go higher than 90. This (amazing) laptop just keep suprising me. I am definitely satisfied and happy with it. Maybe I will add a second 780M in next year.

    Three questions for you.

1 - Does your CPU really get so hot just gaming? You say never above 90, but streaming is a main plan of mine and that gets it hotter than anything else, really. If just gaming gets you near 90 I'm in trouble.
2 - Was that a single 780M or dual? You said your 780M not 780Ms. If so, that's bloody fantastic!
3 - Why in the hell does your 780M only have 3GB of vram? Isn't it a 4GB card? O_O

    1. It usualy averages at 60-70. Just when I am benchmarking some serious stuff it get's near the 90's. But of course, that makes sense, right?
    2. Single. I am realy impressed by the power of this card too.
    3. It's a fault in the game. It's indeed supposed to be 4GB.

    EDIT

Just checked CPU temps (with Intel XTU) when playing Sleeping Dogs (at max settings + texture pack, which is pretty demanding): Highest temp was 71.

    My personal settings:

4930mx @ 4.0ghz on 4 core + 780M SLI overclocked at 1050/6000 1.1v, fully stable on ONE psu at 330W, and all enabled (full brightness, 120hz + 3D, keyboard backlightning, 4x SSD, etc...) but I would guess its pushing it. I strongly suggest with this settings I'm very close to 330W, if not already past it, so I'm really pushing the PSU to its limits, and it gets very hot.

So it's possible even on 1 PSU, if you don't overclock the CPU to the metal, but I cannot tell about how will fare the poor 330W PSU stressed like that in the long run.

For now, for 2-3 weeks, gaming every day on those settings, its fine :D

luigi.lauro at those settings you're pushing it towards 400W, no kidding! Are you stable with 4Ghz OC with XTU 5 min test? Single 330W PSU can draw around 430W before it shuts down

45FPS seems a bit low. Max temp while benchmarking was 77.

    Hey,

Yea for sure we tested it before it left :) Otherwise we wouldn't have sent it out. RAID0 on these machines (All the Haswell models) has seen some random stability issues with windows 8. Especially sleeping etc. Now we have been getting a rash of machines that for some reason don't make it to the other side once we ship them out. But I know your's is on its way back and we'll take care of it for sure =)

Has anyone found a fix for this problem? My NP9380SM3 does the same exact thing. Thanks for any help.

    AA is a FPS killer.

Motion blur, shadows, SSAO. All can be tweaked to give a great look but less impact on performance.

Yea we've noticed this too, what to do is wait for windows to load and sit idle for a minute. Then instead of using the software, hit the FN key combination on the KB itself to turn the backlight on and off, we've found that "resets" it and comes on. You might have to tap the combo a couple of times for it to turn back on.
    Its really annoying.

Yeah I know, might aswell dumb it down a bit (visually there's no difference at all between 8x, 8xQ, 16x, 16xQ and 32x). Game itself is/feels very smooth though. Definitely doesn't feel like 45FPS at all (feels more like 100). Maybe it's because it's a benchmark (otherwise it's definitely AA).

I think I have settled on a spec for my own personal system:

    Sager NP9380-S (Clevo P370SM3)

    17.3" 120Hz 3d ready panel
    4930MX Mobile extreme edition
Steelseries keyboard (mod from my old barebone)
    4x 4GB 1.35V Samsung YK0
    2x GTX780M 4GB GDDR5
2x 330W delta PSU (using dual PSU bridge)
    512GB OCZ Vector SSD
    Bluray reader

My biggest worry with SLI was always the input lag but that should be mitigated by the higher refresh rate and this is the only system to offer dual cards with a 120hz screen :)

Those are your Samsung RAM, Meaker? I looked around a little and didn't really find any. Did Samsung stop making them? What made you choose to the Vector?
I'm leaning towards the P370SM3 too, though not as tricked out. :D

I've had the vector for a while so it's migrating over. I special ordered the ram from america while it was available, no idea if they are still being produced.

    Hi there guys,

Lately i'm having problems with win8 on p375sm, i looked around and ppl says that AMD driver is the problem buggy versions (i'm currently using 13.8 beta2). I'm not overclocking anything here so is going on???
Some say that the notebook msata slots are faulty too. And i looked about my msata "crucial m4 128gb" and in the official forums there are users complaining about the buggy firmware. Tired of sudden red/blue/frozen screen. Sometimes in game when i alt+tab back and forth appear 2 game screens its weird like they are mashing each other .....

Can anyone help me ou, It's like i wasted more than $3k for nothing :/
