What adapter are you using for swapping between type c and type a @Sweetleader

Type C female to type A male. It's just a generic non-powered adapter that came with monitor. The only difference really is when using the Type A port is it requires some Asus drivers where as using Type C is supposed to be just plug and play. However I get a driver failure when trying it that way.

Ah it might need display over USB enabled for that, the ports do not support that.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a vertical laptop stand? I was thinking something like this but much bigger to accommodate my beast, this thing is gonna be my main system for the summer and I'd love to be able to connect my own monitor to it without the laptop itself taking up tons of space on the desk.

Note the cooling performs best with the lid open, also the heat pipes will have some angles where they will not perform so well so test some orientations. Other than that I have not used one so will let someone else chime in.

The 1440 you have experience with. For SLI systems the 1440p certainly helps using the power. The 1080p is a good combo with a single card.

Is there a decent 1440p IPS panel that's available to purchase? I miss the "pop" of the colors that my P670 had.

tempted to get the TM1-G and....

    1. Gut half the RAM from my DM1-G (32GB) and the 2.5" SSDs from the DM1-G and stick them into the TM1-G
    2. Gut the non-OS M.2 NVMe drive and use that for the OS on the TM1-G
    3. Buy a bunch more drives for the DM1-G and use it as a streaming PC for twitch :D

    Friday.

I don't like the screen because its TN panel and i was using IPS 1080p. It sucks

Its pain to put the 2.5 inches hard disk. I just manage to slide in otherwise I have to remove GPU heatsink.

Touchpad is fine and keyboard is also good. And speakers are loud enough. The Flexi software for the light is not perfect I want more control.

Build up quality & finishing is great

I have to push the power button with a bit force to switch off or ON system. I don't know if its with me, please confirm.

Window 10 is pain in the a$$ however i'm tweaking to look like win7

Before i go ahead with my plan and drop 800 AUD, Does anyone know if we can put the 2 2.5inch drives in raid zero, I've always enjoyed Raided SSD performance in the past and theres a special for high capacity SSDS right now (this is with the prema bios)

Guys how many of you uses control center ?

Because today I was running the 3D mark and seen temperature was fine because the fan running in normal speed. However but when I unpackaging the game so that time temp was 99 C and the fan didn't hit to full speed and in control center it was set for automatic so it suppose to run at full speed anyhow I manually set the fan to full speed than the temp dropped to 70 C

I think nobody seen this till now

Disable everything of Control Center tasks/services in Autoruns.exe (run as adm) and test out more to see if you get same behaviour. Many don't use CCC due it contain XTU service who will intreact and screw fans. I mean Automatically fan speed is max 80% with stock bios (not sure if its increased to max with Prema firmware). Worth a shoot.

I'm curious if anyone here is planning to buy OR has this laptop with the 1080p screen that was recently offered by system builders/resellers?

The 1080p screen is GSYNC + 144 Hz.

I find 1080p is the best fit for 17in screens and my little eyes.

What kind of GPU temps are people getting with this laptop under the GTX 1080 SLI build in gaming? I'm interested to hear max temps :) I read from this thread the way cooling works is a bit different for vapor chamber config.

So I pulled the trigger and ordered P870TM1 (EVOC from HIDevolution), it is at "ordering parts" stage at the moment. The config I ordered:

    • Dual Nvidia GTX 1080 in SLI: I know that SLI is becoming less and less compatible with newer games, but when compatible it gives a hell of a boost in performace, so IMO still worths to get SLI. Anyway you can still set the second cards for PhisX when needed.
    • Intel Core i7 8700K @4.8GHz: I went with the upgrade from the i5 just becauses sounds more sexy and it wasn't that expensive. I'm not goig to give the CPU a heavy usage, so I just don't want it to bottleneck the GPU. Maybe if some day we are able to emulate Silent Hill: Origins from PS2 on PCSX without the flashlight glitches, then I'll need a good CPU.
    • B173QTN01.4 upgrade: Since reading at this thread I got scared with regular QHD having lines or bands or whatever, I'm kinda OCD with stuff like that. I lost G-Sync, but oh well.
    • 1x16 GB RAM 2666 MHz: Well RAM is not that important when playing games and 16GB is the minimum in real life to my daily usage so that's enough for now.
    • 1x256 GB SSD (regular) + 1x2 TB 5400 RPM HDD: Well a fast drive for OS and a slow drive for data storage (including games). No need for more.
    • Intel Wireless-AC 9260 upgrade: I have a desktop server for large files like FHD movies or Bluray folders, so I tend to transfer large files over the wireless network, that's why I need the best Wi-Fi module available.
    • Spanish keyborad selection: Too bad Clevo doesn't have a Spanish Latin America keyboard as an option, only the european version. Still better than the english version to me.
Pretty nice experience so far with Ted from sales, quick response and a kind person.

I have a question for you guys, who owns this machine. How is the overall quality build compared to Alienware? I know that Clevo is all plastic, but does it feels like cheap plastic or high quality plastic? what about the hinges? do they last? etc. Something that I love from Alienware is the aluminium chassis and overall quality.

    Here is my laptop history:

    • (2005) Thinkpad A21m:
      • Intel Pentium III @800MHz
      • 2x128 MB RAM @100MHz
      • 80 GB HDD 4200 rpm
      • ATI Rage Mobility M1 with 8MB VRAM
      • I hated this laptop for being so slow, I couldn't play any game of the time on it. I was just able to emulate PS1 games.
    • (2007) Dell XPS M1530 (last config):
      • Intel Core 2 Duo @2.0GHz
      • 2x2 GB DDR2 RAM @667MHz
      • 500 GB HDD @5400 rpm
      • Nvidia 8600M GT 256MB of VRAM
      • Man, I loved this laptop, it was a huge step from my previous laptop. I could play most of games of the time at a decent 20-40 fps at high settings and 720p resolution. The aluminium palm rest was beautiful. Everything was great untill the 8600M GT got fried, and then it got fried again and again, and again. I changed this laptop motherboard like 4 times. Nvidia really screwed me that time.
    • (2009) Alienware M17x R1 (last config):
      • Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 @2.9GHz 24/7 overclock.
      • 4x2 GB RAM @1333 MHz
      • 2x500 GB HDD @7200 rpm
      • Dual Nvidia GTX 280M in SLI
      • Upgraded to the RGB LED screen (best laptop screen I ever owned to date)
      • This one was my first high end laptop. this one, I could play any DX10 game maxed out at 1200p with 20-40 fps. Except Crysis. I loved this laptop, except I got an issue with the screen I never solved, I think it was a motherboard issue. This laptop lasted a long time with me.
    • (2014 to date) Alienware 18 (last config):
      • Intel i7 4910MQ at stock clocks
      • 4x4 GB RAM @1600 MHz
      • 256 GB SSD mSATA + 2x 1TB 5400 rpm
      • Dual Nvidia GTX 980M in SLI (just upgraded to this last year)
      • I really liked this laptop, I got no so many issues as I got with the M17x R1. With the GTX 980M I can play most of next gen games (DX11 and DX12) from 30 to 60 fps. I like the large screen and the sound, though now I tend to play hooked to the TV and the surround system. The thing is now I want to play at constant 60fps so I hope I get that from my future laptop :)

you are gimping yourself by choosing to use a single stick over two sticks, Ram is important to video games, More specificly dual channel access which wont be able to be used on your setup until you install a second stick, Should of gone 2x8GB like i did.

My last clevo was actually aluminum aswell, But alas the plastic on this is fine, It does feel plasticy but it does its job with no flex in my experience.

I saw a few reviews comparing single channel to dual channel on games, and pretty much no difference or even worst in some cases single channel outperformed dual channel. IIRC textures and stuffs like that are stored on the VRAM of video cards, and regular RAM doesn't play as a big role while playing games.

All the Clevo P870 series models is decent quality. I have also Alienware 17 2o13 (the last normal model from Dell). The Alienware ain't much better build quality from what I have seen. And the brand new AW models is a damn mess. Exactly same as their first thin models released from 2015 and up to now.
Some info about single vs. dual Channel ram.

    And from this article http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/does-dual-channel-memory-make-difference-in-gaming-performance/

Dual channel absolutely DOES make a difference. Don't pay attention to benchmarks. Pay attention to minimum FPS and stuttering. Dual channel allows more seamless operation and huge increase in memory scores. This is very important. Games use a lot of RAM. See if you can change from 1 stick to 2 sticks. It's worth it. Don't try to penny pinch when you're buying quality. Go big or go home! :)

With 4 slots you may as well get 2 smaller ones now as you still have two slots open for more in the future if you need it.

Well you guys convinced me .. I'll change from 1x16 to 2x8. I didn't know dual channel had this huge impact in games, thanks a lot!

2400MHz should be OK for an 8700k?

If you don't have faster ram or can't afford right now, yees. Maybe sell what you have and put the money in faster sticks. Or perhaps they can be pushed with other cpu than what you already have.

You can try overclocking the 2400Mhz but it's enough to get you up and running for now.

Normal 2400 SODIMM sticks can either be overclocked a few tiers or their timings tweaked considerably tighter (2T->1T, TreFI=65535, tRFC 270 or lower, etc)
Premium 2400 sticks like Hyper X impact may be able to run at 3000 mhz if you relax the timings a bit (2666 mhz is easy).

Do you guys recommend GSKILL Ripjaws or Kingston HyperX Impact 2666MHz? Seems like Kingston has lower timings compared to GSKILL.

    GSKILL: CL18-18-18
    vs
    KINGSTON: CL15-17-17
