It said in the tech specs 16 gigs of ram.
But I don't think we can rely on anything listed, as it seems to have taken the spec sheet from the old chronos laptops and changed a few things.

But one thing's for sure, this laptop could very well be coming in a Few weeks.

Maybe its kind of obvious now but Ive thinking that the touch screen version will be released probably in March or April so the non touch version should be released this month. After all when people asked at CES about the release date they were presented the touch version.

The NP770Z5E-S01 is £1099.95, the NP900X3E-A01 is £1299.95 and the NP900X3E-A03 is £1499.95 on John Lewis right now. However they are not in stock yet. Can anyone tell me if the 15.6 is upgradable with 16gb ram and change the hard drive for SSD?

Who is the source of these prices?
770Z5E-S01 UK price is lower than German price

John Lewis - Page cannot be displayed
    John Lewis

John Lewis is always more expensive than others so it's looking good. Samsung has its own store in Westfield Stratford so it should be on display very soon.

    1. The specs at John Lewis indicate 8GB RAM so most like that will be 4GB on board and 4GB in the slot. The latter could be changed to give a total of 12GB. However, we won't know for sure until someone can buy one and check the arrangement. 8GB on board and an empty slot is possible.
    2. The 1TB hard drive will be standard 9.5mm thick 2.5" format and will be replaceable with a 2.5" SSD. However, (i) you may need to unscrew the base to do the swap - Samsung will say that this invalidates the warranty; and (ii) on the previous Series 7 it was found that the 9.5mm SSDs were a tight fit and it was preferable to use 7mm thick units.

With my pleasure, they answered me just 10 minutes after I wrote to them :D

Yes, Canada Computers is a reputable seller and they usually have good warranty policies. They are actually one of my favourite computer stores at the moment - they sell both online and in store and have pretty good customer service.

Not to sound like an advert, but Canada Computers' policies for warranties and returns are usually just as good as those other stores.

Jeez, as always every good news is soon followed by a denial...Samsung Italy just wrote me back that the release date (scheduled in February) has been postponed to early April! Shame on them, I need a good laptop BADLY and ASAP.
However, I didn't miss the chance to suggest them to go for the 8 GB RAM soldered rather than a 2x4 GB configuration..They replied that they would forward the advise to the team

This may or may not mean anything, but I was curious, and contacted Canada Computers regarding the 780Z5E, and got this response.

It sounds a bit like a copy/pasted "Laptop is backordered, 2 weeks ETA" generic response, but felt like you guys should get a chance to pointlessly speculate as well.

I think that April is release date for 780Z5E touch version in Europe, and February is release date for 770Z5E in Europe (Including Italy).
Otherwise is completely absurd that is already in pre order three months before of the launch (Amazon.it)

I have no hope that Samsung can sell a configuration with 8GB soldered instead of 4GB.

They found a UEFI brick bug on older chronos models, maybe they will delay the new ones as well until fixed.
    Repackaging would take forever...

If it's released in April, I will wait for Haswell anyway. New MACs will be out in June too

Linux UEFI brick regards even Toshiba and Lenovo notebooks.
Haswell with GT3 debut only in September.
Today someone has published a comparison between Haswell and Ivy bridge, and performances are practically the same.

Bad news for Italian customers, if you try to search Samsung 770Z5E on Amazon.it then you are not able to find it, but I have saved the link and now there is no price in the page also you are not able to pre order it as before.
This seems a clue of a delay...

i think that however if the notebook will come out in about 1 month samsung should release an official announcement, they can't just let us know a week before IMO. And i think they know that if they postpone the release too much this notebook will be too old before we can buy it

I've seen it happen a lot with other notebook manufacturers. At large consumer electronics companies, some product lines don't always get the attention they deserve.

This. Odds are they still have plenty of the current model in stock, even if they stopped manufacturing it. If they announce a newer one, sales of the current model will drop like a stone. They don't want to relegate the older model to the discount bin, and thus -- the one week announcement.

Just like the Osborne Computer Corporation in 1982 with their announcement of Osborne 2 :) The sales of the old first computer dropped like a stone and they went bankrupt.

90 percents of hospitals and public education structures actually still use 800x600 projectors with only VGA input.

Anyway I feel this is going to be a 6 months wait just like for the original chronos regarding the touchscreen version, better let it go and come back later for the haswell version at this pace and price.

Did samsung actually announce for the original chronos when it would come out, or did it just come out in 6 months?

As Samsung has now said many times that it is coming out in april, or the march-april time frame. They wouldn't release a brand new high end laptop with ivy bridge when haswell is already out. It wouldn't make sense.

Anyways, I hope that the non-touch version comes out soon. The reviews should be the same except for the screen.

In my experience a VGA port is a must when you frequently do presentations, is a standard that is disappearing at a very slow rate so I’m Happy with the VGA and the HDMI ports.

I would love for VGA to be replaced with DisplayPort (DVI port is too big) but apparently only 1% of today's monitors have DisplayPort. Adaptors Adaptors Adaptors...

I find myself rather satisfied with VGA/HDMI combo, tbh -- it covers both my use cases of really old monitors/projectors, and some good ones with HDMI.

The previous model (700Z?C) was announced in april 2012, and available in stores here in Norway early may for some models, so I sure hope/think march is likely month for it to show up in some countries at least.

Same here. It baffles me that just about all of the high end laptops coming out now don't have DisplayPort. You'd think that the people who buy high end laptops have high end, high res monitors that require DisplayPort. Having to hack drivers to get my next lappy to work with my 2560x1440 monitor over HDMI seems idiotic.

It depends on your GPU and monitor, but yes. Most newer GPUs will support higher resolutions in hardware over HDMI, up to 4K at 60fps, iirc. That might not be enabled in the driver, so you may need a hacked graphics driver. Some monitors, like my Dell U2711, will support higher res input over HDMI if you edit their .inf

Is that the touch or non touch model? Even if it isn't that is a good price considering what you are getting IMO. I wasn't expecting these to be so low. Shame the GPU has DDR3 instead of GDDR5.
