Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a big battery for battery life?
-
I'm guessing a good chunk of people have their laptops plugged into the wall the majority of the time (while they're at home)
-
I think, somewhere I found an option to activate 8870m always, when Notebook is plugged in, but don't know, where
-
Like I said, driver issues.
-
Yes, it does. However, for those who are using it as a semi-desktop replacement or want that power at all times without worrying about CCC, maybe it's an option?
If anything, I'm just curious. -
still, that wouldnt fix any potential driver issues with switchable graphics. using my envy 14 as an example that used ati 5650 drivers, at one point the stock drivers from AMD would work, and at a certain catalyst version, they wouldnt, and caused all kinds of issues. im just worried this will be the same experience with these drivers

Anyone noticing an odd noise from the fan? Mine has a bit of the "baseball card stuck in the bicycle spokes" sound to it. I am concerned that the blades are hitting against something such as one of the power leads.
-
Initially I was in the market for an NP700Z7, when someone in that related thread pointed me towards the new NP770Z7, so I'm a bit late to the party. From what I've gathered in this thread so far (sorry, can't make it through all 400 pages), there is/might be a 17" version with SSD and 16GB of RAM. Is that to be released in the US at some point? Will there be a 17" model with touch screen or is that limited to the 15" ones? Finally, can someone comment on fan noise with the HD8870M. I'm not concerned with noise under load, but want something reasonably quiet for web surfing etc - the NP700 is supposedly quite good in that regard.
-
It has a silent mode disabling any fan inside, so that You only hear the hdd then.
-
that's not the fan, that's the hard drive. i thought the same thing too when i had mine.
-
Is the fans and exhaust vent heat coming upwards towards the screen going to mess it up in the future? What happened to the 2012 chromos models that played games all year? Did it damage the screen because of the exhaust location?
-
I replaced HDD with SSD
-
Thought this would be of interest here as most seem to want SSD. Samsung 840 Series 250GB for $147
Rakuten.com - Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive (SSD) with Notebook and Desktop Installation Kit
Thread with people discussing this deal is here
-----------------------------------------------------
Also this 256GB SSD for $160 today on Newegg
SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5"
SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook - Newegg.com -
oh. well...hmm, that's interesting. i definitely had that noise with the HDD, but maybe the fan bearing's off a little.
-
It shouldn't get affected. The aluminum casing should withstand a lot of heat.
You also have to consider the component's temperatures and heat being produced overtime when you're not even playing games, especially for a thin laptop like this. -
Hi everyone, i buyed the NP770Z5E-S01IT 15", nice pc for studying purposes, like running virtual machines and this kind of heavy stuff, but i have to say few things about it, bad things:
- the built quality in general is good, but personally i have a little issue with the bottom left side of the screen, attached to the hinge: when i move the screen it makes an annoying sound, like CRICK, which really p**s me off (especially because i paid it like 1600$ - 1250€
;
- the touchpad sucks hard, but i think its a hardware defect of mine, because it should be the same as series 9 (my brother have one, and his touchpad is awesome); anyway it stays stucked very often, tryed with clean install of windows, reinstalling drivers etc, but nothing was solved;
- the display defects too, the shadows of the applications or folders stay even when i restart the pc, you can see them especially in the seconds while login page loads (i have a dark background and you can clearly see shadows by previous session);
- speaking about games, it get very hot and the throttling "issue" is not that issue, because without it the alluminium would probably melt down, allowing you to create a brand new chassis by yourself, modelling it with hands
(even with a cooling fan under it); anyway: i tried ArmA 3 for 10 minutes, then it started to drop fps and i just quit it. (other games, less expensives, like soldier of fortune 2 multiplayer, can run without any kind of troubles all day long).
So, this is my experience, which is not so good as i expected.
If someone could tell me if his model is running well without these issues that i posted, i will probably feel better, as i will send it to repair, full of hopes, as soon as possible (if study allows me to have it away for 5 days)
Thanks for reading -
Are you telling me the screen glass or panel is made of aluminum? -
Don't have any of your problems. Best is returning it and getting a new one, if You're satisfied with the device apart from that.
-
my 770ze5-s01 DE is free of those errors, except the crick sound. but thats only if i hold it up in the air, not if its on a table.
and i had no FPS throttling running 1,5 hours of metro2033 benchmark. 99 loops of same framerates...see logs somewhere behind.
make sure to tune and set to max performance enegery profile. if you don't do that, PSU will only use 78-88 Watts.
If you do, it will use 93W
touchpad also never hangs with sw update drivers. most people don't know there are mouse buttons on the bottom and get in that zone - then it may hang or movement gets slowed down !
and there are surely no burned in icons - you are not the first one telling us that.
seems like there is a defective stock somewhere. think that guy was italian too -
Where did you get it? I mean the store. And the suffix of the model number sounds wrong, A01it, it's supposed to be s01it... Did you mistyped it?
And can you tell the hardware id of your screen? -
This is quite troubling, as you are not the first to report "burn-in" on the screen.
This should not be happening on an LCD panel - and is especially serious considering how much of the "windows experience" utilizes static icons, taskbars, etc.
I sure hope that this is a simple "bad batch" issue, and not the norm.
I've been holding out for this laptop model for some time now - with money burning a hole in my pocket - but I surely will NOT buy a very expensive defective product.
Can anyone else confirm if they are experiencing image retention or burn-in ? -
I just came back from a one week trip and I'm about 40 odd pages behind. Can someone just update me with the latest on the 8870m version in the US?
-
Nothing new lol, sorry
-
you can order the 8870m Chronos here in the US at Samsung's online store directly. May be ordering one for my little brother who is jealous of my Blade. I'd prefer to wait and order from Best Buy or Amazon b/c don't want to pay a 15% restocking fee with Samsung.com
-
Make note that it is only the 17 inch non touchscreen model with the 8870m that you can buy in the US.
-
Who is experiencing burn in issues can please post hardware id of his display?
-
Anyone know if there's a specific time of day that pcworld/currys updates their stock online?
-
I get it on Vendita Elettrodomestici Televisori Samsung Ricetrasmittenti Netbook Orologi Gioielli Electronics San Marino
And yes, i mistyped: the pc is a NP770Z5E-S01IT, not A, sorry guys -
Im glad to hear it, my only trouble is the time they will take to repair the notebook. I really need it for at least 2 full months..
Anyway im wondering if i should return it to the seller, or just use the warranty and send it to Samsung (im thinking it would be better to send it to Samsung, as to avoid the seller to send me another defective pc) -
Sure, my ID hardware is: MS_9003
-
Got the 770z5e S01DE on Tuesday.
Could not notice burn-in.
Sound better than Asus U500.
Fans much better than Asus U500, unable to notice with normal surfing, office work.
Ok, HD will be replaced by SSD.
Price 1299 Euro. Plus 200 Euro for SSD - so still cheaper than Asus.
Glad I returned the Asus and I guess I keep this thing. -
Hardware-ID of Screen is AUO9003 - no burn-in - type 770Z5E-S01DE.
@abbathrulez
Can you please post a picture of your burn-in? -
Same with my German 770z5e
-
This is interesting, maybe AUO displays don't suffer of burn in issue, while MSs do. Guys with burn in problem can you please post hw id of your display?
-
When You tell me, how to read out hardware id
-
-
How long you have kept the first screen?
After how much time the burn-in disappears? -
I didnt looked exactly how much time it lasts, but after a minute the burn in was always there.. So i think it stands for at least 2 minutes approximately
-
The panel is only one, I think they have read info in different place or maybe one of them have a clean Windows installation.
-
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
If the image disappears, it isn't "burn in". I think it is called ghosting.
-
Systemsteuerung, Geräte-Manager, Monitore, PnP-Monitor, Details, Eigenschaft "Hardware-IDs"
Anybody getting the HW-ID from somewhere else? -
I have a question guys: i did a full erase of my disk without saving the old partition table before, so now i have a clean disk with single partition... what happens now? Can i restore it in some ways?
-
If we're talking televisions - plasma technology can get "image retention" (temporary burn-in that "eventually" can go away), and "burn-in" which is permanent.
LCD technology, while not immune - should still not be producing that level of image retention/ghosting/burn-in - unless there was some sort of gross abuse over a very long period of time.
Being a brand new laptop, the picture that was posted is clearly indicative of a defective panel or something else that is "majorly" wrong. -
Also have AUO9003
-
This reminds me of the image retention issue the rMBPs have.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 -
Can anyone help me with this? Is there a way to restore my partition table?
-
Well if you erased it completely before doing any backup/clonage (or similar stuff), I don't think you can...
-
Ummm no? My MBPr has no such issues. That's one issue it DOESN'T have
-
Also noticed that this guy with the burn in issues also has the matte 17 inch non touchscreen version. Possibly making the difference?
-
Where did you read it? And did you do a frash install?
