Yes i did a fresh install, and i read it by device manager/monitor/device details/HARDWARE ID
The same path the other guy (who posted photos) did.

That's one of the reasons I didn't go for it. If you look on the macrumor forums, they talked about it extensively. It even came to a bunch of people filing a case against it to take to court.

I wonder if with fresh install you have loose something, setting or driver about display.
May you check about version drivers of Intel and AMD GPU and driver about display for example if you are running with a driver supplied by Microsoft just to compare with users with Samsung installation even those that have swapped SSD.
Because the possibility that there are 2 MVA panels suppliers are very few.

How do I install the Intel HD 4000 graphics driver? I was having an issue with Metro apps like Reader and Maps crashing, and the application log pointed to an Intel graphics dll as the source module. So I uninstalled Intel Graphics Driver via "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel. But in Samsung SW Update there is only a listing for "Display Driver" and it claims it is already installed.

The reason why i did a fresh install is because i was having those problem! I just tried to resolve them with a full fresh install of windows 8 !
Now im a bit in trouble, because i called the Samsung assistance, and they want me to do a restore to try to resolve everything: even if i know that restoring wouldnt solve anything, the fact is that i got no more recovery partitions, so it may void my warranty..
This is why i need that someone helps me to get back my old partition table, maybe with someone's other one (dunno if there is a way to do that).. tomorrow i will receive the call by the guy of assistance, and he will ask me to do a fulll restore, helping me step by step.. so its hard to me even to pretend im really doing a restore :D
If someone have the patience to send me the step by step photo guide of a restore, i will be able to get over this bureaucratic way and finally send the pc to repair!

i've noticed the ghosting on my laptop for the initial first week on the 780z5e.. it was always the metro tiles only.. but i couldn't remember how long it was, until it went away completely.. im not sure if this has to do with new panels or not, but im 100% confident on mine, it went away and never came back

these aren't burned in eithers.. you can tell when you restart the computer it goes away completely.. but mine has disappeared completely

Hi, is anybody having issues with AMD Radeon graphics on the Samsung Chronos 17" 770z7e-s03? My notebook keeps using only internal graphics. It never switches to the AMD Radeon hd 8800m card. I setup "maximize performance" for apps, ie 3d mark, game Far Cry 3...same issue, only the internal graphics turns on.

    Any ideas?

if you wiped restore partition, you can't restore !
you need to find someone who can upload a partition image, so you can restore with that.

or go to a shop and grab it :p just reboot, hit f4 on boot and create and export it to usb stick, then you can boot from there and restore.

but i doubt wiping partitions voids warranty, that would be nonsense.
it's the display they have to fix, not windows.

It seems like you have to break the screen in a bit. I hope that's as far as it goes and doesn't get any worse than this. I want to see if the "burn-in" disappears after a while. Could maybe some of you that have the issue report back after further use?

There are two different panels for the rMPR, one by lg and one by Samsung(I think it's lg and Samsung at least)
I know that one of them has horrible bleeding and ghosting while the thee doesn't. Pretty sure Samsung is the better one.

John Lewis in Kingston, London, now has the NP770Z5E-S01UK. They had 18 but now they have 17 because I just bought one :)

Originally wanted the touchscreen version, especially as I figured the Matte version would be dull but a combination of impatience and after looking at one in person I was sold :) Happy times! Anyone want further info let me know but I think Pranktank has answered most questions now.

Your point? I am comparing 2 laptops that offer similar features. What most people here want (in my opinion) Is an all around kick lappy that plays games and does everything else well in a form factor that is light and pleasing to the eye for a reasonable price. The holly grail of laptops as it were. The y500 has a smaller foot print than most gaming laptops with any balls. In short it want my cake and eat it to. And these 2 for me offer the closest thing to this I have found to date. Labels mean nothing to me. "Gaming" "Premium" "Multimedia". It's about specs and functionality in a sweet form factor. Ans lets face it Samsung makes nice laptops these days. Really nice.

lenovos are ugly. would never spend that much money on a machine which looks like a 50$ laptop.
770z5e is the best choice for now if gaming isn't priority no. 1

edited some html files in notepad++ for hours and this beast had 72% battery after 4 hours on 40-45% brightness!
couldnt believe my eyes. uses 5-6w only and shows 11 hours to go Oo

the haswell version will be overkill in terms of runtime, lol

If you're fine with 2-3 hours of battery life, then go for the Lenovo. Just curious, does it have a great screen like Chronos' one? They really are two different machines: the Lenovo is made to stay on the desk plugged and lay there for all its life, while the Chronos is made to follow you everywhere in your bag. Just choose basing on your usage

I hope not if the 8870 15 in chronos will be less than the 17 in 8870 chronos it'll be $100 more than 8770 15 in and I need to buy a laptop mid April and if those figures I mentioned are right I'm getting the 8870 and I want it when my money comes in April. So no offense but I hope your wrong I hate waiting. lol

The screen's bezel's and the entire laptop's casing....

Any laptop screen is usually at an obtuse (>90 degree) angle, to face upward toward the user's face, meaning instead of directly hitting the screen most of the heat disappears into the air. This is why you shouldn't worry about the screen "burning up".

    - The Y500 is black, has Dual GT 650m's, side vents, ultrabay, huge power adaptor, and red keyboard backlight.
    - This Chronos is silver, has a glossy touchcreen and matte screen options, 1" thick form factor and , long battery life, and a good touchpad. And it's not a perfect gaming machine. It easily throttles from high temperatures WITHOUT overclocking.
    - Seriously, it's like you're choosing between getting a truck and a small car. These 2 are NOT similar.

Chronos is a working machine with long battery life and a superb screen, with good gaming capabilities.

Y500 is a gaming machine, with a crappy display, size, weight, heat, battery life and fan noise when compared to a Chronos. 3 hours for surfing with W-LAN is something a Chronos owner would cry about. It's 4-5 times less runtime !

The only reason to prefer Y500 over 770Z5E is gaming. If you only game on your machine, then buy Y500.
In every other case go for Chronos. For me it's nonsense to even consider gaming notebooks, when desktops cost half and have 3x more performance.

I've just been to the pcworld/currys on Oxford street, and the salesperson there said since there are no i7 models in any wearhouse, it will be a while before they're back in stock.

I played with the i5 version which was nice, but I know I'd regret not getting the best one...

It seems like the 8850 and 8870 are pretty comparable in specs. Would the difference between an i5 and an i7 matter much for general use + moderate gaming?

comparing this to a Y500 is really nonsensical. The closest competitor imo is the Asus UX51. There are so few laptops that really (try) to combine all three things of powerful, excellent battery life, and really good display. Kind of like the (old) Vaio Z in the 13" class. If only the Sony Vaio S came with a better GPU, it could actually give this Samsung a run for the money with its superior sheet battery concept.

Unfortunately i dont think is it possible to install by just install.wim; the point is that i have recovered the whole 20 gb partition containing my backup; i think i only need that someone make a backup of his partition table with some partition manager, deleting the contents of the 20gb partition (which is the only to have personal data), and send it to me. In this way i should be able to fill the 20 gb partition with my backup and try to run F4 to do a restore.
I hope someone who have this notebook can help me with this

Dear blue13x, have been reading a lot about this issue and found your scenario the best one.

I am desperate and trying to recreate the same scenario - cloning system using Samsung Recovery 5 to external SSD to put as main Disk afterwards.
Got Samsung SSD 840 Pro and external Icy Box SATA / USB box, plugged it to Windows 7, activated in disk management the SSD and formated(NTSF), so system sees it

Now i am trying to boot using F4, in Samsung recovery 5 i see only three options - using System Backup and pointing it to the external SSD. The SRS5 then gets "Drive not supported error"

Am i missing something ? Did you have to enter some Admin tools to be able to make Recovery disk clone ?

    Any reply is much appreciated,

    Thanks a lot,
