They probably don't have the new 8GB module flushed out (DDP? assuming they've remained with that tech). It is strange though. It's also questionable to release a laptop with such high res before the 8.1 update. I can only assume they have fully tested their drivers so the transition will not be aggravating to the user. As I thought some users said they had problems with the preview. I am curious about what the reviews will say, as there have always been issues with windows scaling and I would need 200% at that res. I am still running W7 on my X3B (@125%), but I'll probably try 8.1 when it rolls out. Already have W8 on my htpc, it's ok there.
-
What do they say about the kira book? That's close at 2560x1440 and has been out for months. Oh, and I have 8.1 installed and don't see what it is going to do that is better than 8. Instead of options for 125% and 150% it has a slider with two unnamed stops which are probably 125% and 150% anyway.

My order still says it should be delivered on the 17th

Windows 8.1 will launch on October 18th, available a day earlier on Windows Store | The Verge
Wondering how this affects the AB9+ ... -
Scratch that, I rang them and after ringing the supply people they told me it's been pushed back to mid September....
-
This is becoming a farce Samsung - get it right. Is it shipping on the 17th or not?
-
100% no, they must be waiting for 8.1 RTM
-
So that is wrong as well as MS confirmed 8.1 is coming mid-Oct and not before.
-
Check the verge link above,
'The final copy of Windows 8, known as Release to Manufacturing (RTM), is expected to be made available to PC makers and partners in the coming weeks.' -
Looks like Acer is getting my money then. Unfortunately, I missed out on the $1170 sale/mistake.
Sent from a different Galaxy using Tapatalk 2. -
Acer or Asus (UX31LA) then. If Samsung delays until 8.1 is released and I can be bothered to wait that long, then I might as well just wait for Infinity (no pun intended).
-
I don't think there is even whisper of a rumor about when the UX31LA will be out..maybe in December.
-
No info about Acer S7-392 in Europe also. Acer announced that the european version would have a higher resolution so they probably will wait for W8.1.
Now I'm left with Vaio Pro 13 with it's loud fan noise, WiFi issues and m-SATA SSD instead of PCI-E as the US model. Not a great time to buy a Windows ultraportable. Bummer. -
UX31LA is the 1920x1080 refresh version, with HD4400. Not Infinity which is supposed to have Iris.
Says tomorrow here, but I doubt it. Still, it's not depending on Win 8.1 with that resolution though.
Komplett.no - ASUS ZENBOOK Touch UX31LA 13,3" Full HD -
I hope all the delays haven't been waiting for Windows. I don't care if it comes with windows 7, 8 or 8.1. I'm going to wipe it and put Fedora on it before booting the preinstalled OS.
-
Most German sites say the S7-392 should start shipping in ca. 4 weeks from now.
As a person who types a lot and uses Total Commander regularly, I wouldn't imagine using it with its keyboard though. -
Yeeh and in Sweden too: Komplett.se
We have a complete review of it too. Thou that computer is nothing special to me. Might as well sit with my 900x3c or get the 900x3e for 30% less.
Samsung; don´t rush! If you are waiting for 8.1 then so be it. We might not know much about it, but maybe 8.1 is crusial for this product. Don´t release something that is not finished. You´ll have it out before the Infinity and maybe the new Retina macbooks. If the 9+ gets good rewievs. i´ll get one. But if not, I´ll get another 13"retina. -
X3E is 10990,- SEK on Komplett. Is that 30% off?
-
The USD/SEK exchange rate is currently 6.51. So SEK 10990 = USD 1688.
For comparison, Amazon lists NP900X3E-A02US (i7-3537U, 128GB SSD) at $1300, NP900X3E-K01US (256GB SSD) at $1500 and NP900X3C-A05US (i5-3317U, 128GB SSD) at $1100. -
Sorry. Last week it was 7995 and Inet.se had the same offer.
-
Samsung has finally posted specs but they can't be right because both shown seem to be exactly the same and still 2.56 pounds. BTW, still no prices.
Browse & Compare Laptop, All-In-One and Tablet Computers: Reviews and Prices -
So looking it seems the only difference between the K01 and the K03 is the SideSync software?
-
Ok, found that offer in another web shop. So is it a good alternative? Would be nice to just buy something cheap now and wait for more Iris Ultrabooks next year.

The NP900X3E-K01SE has a lot to commend it if the price is good. An i7 CPU combined with a 256GB SSD is a good spec. 4GB RAM is the only limitation and the currently advertised models of the 9+ have the same limitation.
John -
Specs - Laptops NP940X3GI | Samsung PCs
Noticeable things:
Display brightness used to be touted as 350 nits (in the features section) , now it's down to 300 nits (in the specs section).
SATA3 SSD. Is this slower or faster than the macbook air PCIe SSD?
Ooh dual array internal mic! Does that mean two?
Wireless LAN Antenna 2 x 2 - hopefully this means it won't have the network connectivity problems that the acer aspire s7 have
The weight (2.56 lbs) is lighter than everywhere previously reported (3.06 lbs). Seems like this spec sheet is not to be completely trusted! -
It won't be ast fast as PCIe in terms of seq. R/W due to the limitations of (m)SATA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#SATA_revision_3.0_-_6_Gbit.2Fs_-_600_MB.2Fs
This has been known, though, so no surprise here.
On the other hand, 4K random reads--much more important for regular performance--could be even better than MBA if the right disk (PM841?) is used. -
And if you plan to run windows on the MBA..don't. It will be the slowest SSD experience you will have in your lifetime. Certainly worse than a Sandisk U100.
2013 MacBook Air NGFF PCIe SSD Review (256GB) - Pre-Configured MBA Doesn't Set The 'PC' Performance Bar | The SSD Review -
Just to clarify, this is with bootcamp drivers and I'm not sure it's been substantiated on multiple machines? Not to question Les, but Parallels may be fine. Sequential R/W is an over-cited SSD metric and only applicable in certain situations, most of which would not occur on a ulv-powered laptop.
-
It might be better or it might be worse. If I were buying one (and I almost did before reading this) I wouldn't want to be worrying about whether or not my SSD was going to run like a 5400 rpm hard drive.

Much of the SSD performance improvement in everyday usage is provided by the near-instant access times.

Technology News and Reviews - Boot Camp: Interview - Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus pre-orders open Sunday: Prod. Mgr. David Ng
Interview with "Samsung Product Manager"David Ng about the ativ book 9 plus!
He mainly restates the points on the spec sheet.
Points:
-available for preorder on sunday in US
-Talks about the RAM Accelerator feature
-Hypes the sidesync feature w/ galaxy phones / tablets - it's actually pretty cool sounding. You can drag and drop files or use it to extend your monitor. Kinda cool. -
Great find!
US preorder $1599 @ 2m40s -
Hi Everyone. I have been following this thread religiously for the past few weeks and have found a great deal of the discussion and insight very helpful as Samsung has been either excruciatingly tight lipped or alarmingly inaccurate with their own information. Thus, I wanted to start with a thank you to you all. You guys exhibit a very impressive ability to obtain info. Now that that is over with, Is that Ng guy joking?? $1599 for base specs (Not even 256gb)! I don't really understand how they can put this product on the market at that price especially with the stagnant PC market. I mean, what exactly happened to the 1399 price listed on most online preorders? Will they still be able to honor that or was that just a cruel placeholder (I was able to reserve on amazon for 1215 thanks to a prior post, fingers crossed). Seriously guys, I'm new to this stuff, but I have to think these pricing decisions are getting out of hand and are likely contributors to the failing PC market. Either way, two questions. One, for those of you whom have experience with 128gb SSD, is that enough memory to last 2-3yrs min (primarily websurfing, movies, occasional word, powerpoints etc). Two, any ideas as to why Samsung is unable or unwilling to offer custom configurations? I can't imagine it would be that difficult seeing as Sony was able to offer multiple configurations of the vaio pro 13 from day one.
-
Did a little research on Amazon and their pre order guarantee policy. It appears that a pre order price guarantee is clearly shown on eligible products. As Amazon doesn't even have a working link to a page for the ATIV book 9 plus (Not even through my completed order) I won't be holding my breath. Oh well, back to the drawing board. I was really hopeful for this laptop as a nicer, better designed option compared to the Book 7 (I may be in the minority here but I really like touch and find the Book 7 enjoyable to use during previews at BB) but I really don't think a 1600 dollar price is justified for baseline RAM are SSD no matter how many pixels it can push...

Samsung like to capitalise on the marketing prospects of those who have the urge to have the latest technology at any price. They will follow up with the better specs later in the hope the same people then buy the upgraded model.
128GB SSD wasn't enough last year for many users so we had to do DIY upgrades. You may, however, find it enough if you have other accessible bulk storage.
Or consider whether the X3E / X3F provide all you need at at much more reasonable price (and in a lighter package). Will you really be able to benefit from the insanely high resolution display of the X3G? The older models sometimes offer faster CPUs and bigger SSDs than will be seen in the first releases of the new models.
John -
Would adding a 64gb SD card, and setting aside 8gb for ReadyBoost help this unit?
It looks like Australia May only get the 4gb ram and 128Gb SSD version.
And I think it needs more at least 8gb or ram, but more the better!
Thoughts? -
Amazon still has the NP940X3G-K01US on preorder for $1215.96 if you were lucky enough to save the link in your cart before they took it down. So I wouldn't get too worried about that $1599 price just yet. The estimated delivery date is September 5th with 2 day delivery so that gives an idea when they will be going out.

The average SD card slot is in the USB 2.0 performance range. CrystalDiskMark reports streaming read / write speeds of 19 and 11MB/s for a 32GB class 10 SD card in my NP900X4C. However, the slot in the Ativ Book 9 Lite is faster (32MB/s and 12MB/s). You will do better with a USB 3.0 flash drive, some of which have a read speed >100MB/s (but I don't know of any smaller enough to leave plugged in). Anyway, forget ReadyBoost - directly accessing the SSD is faster, but an SD card may be OK for infrequently used data that you want to keep to hand such as some videos or photos.
Ultimately, you will need to install a higher capacity SSD if you want space and performance. Initially, you can reclaim the SSD space used by the recovery partition after making a full backup using Samsung Recovery Solution.
John -
Will the SSD evem be upgradable?
-
In all seriousness though, even if it is upgradable, don't you think for 1600 bucks you should be able to get a machine that's ready to go out of the box? At a minimum I should be given the choice to upgrade the system for an even more obscene price.
On a separate note, anyone have any experience with the ATIV 9 lite? Is it a viable alternative or crippled by the poor res screen and AMD processor? -
Nonono i'ts definitely 1399. I think he just misspoke. It says 1399 on the samsung press release and if you listen closely maybe he just fumbled 'fif' and 'thir'
I have the amazon thing on preorder for 1215 as well but I highly highly doubt that it's going to stay that way. It doesn't seem to be eligible for pre-order guarantee although I do remember it saying "1215 or less". I guess we'll find out tomorrow when it goes on preorder for real!
And for the ativ book 9 lite, I would definitely skip it and just get a last gen (maybe even used / refurbished) samsung series 9 / ativ book 9 when they go down in price when this laptop is released -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I'm sure it will be. They won't solder a standard component like that onto the board. However, we don't know whether the SSD is mSATA, M.2 or some other format.
Ask that question in the Ativ Book 9 Lite thread and I will share some observations (I have one on my desk).
John -
You could very much be correct. But in any event he is just stating MSRP, and while maybe not at first, but we should be able to find it for less.
I doubt they made architectural changes since their announcement press conference, so I think we can be confident that it has an M.2 SSD. Whether the production units that get shipped have the Samsung MZNTD128HAGM that the unit Anand got to play with is very much unknown. -
The 1215 is definitely guaranteed..probably why you can't just find that link easily. Just click on the "why" under the "or less" to see the guarantee.
-
Well if that's true and the MSRP is actually 1599 then we got an exceptional deal. Hopefully we will find out for sure tomorrow...
-
I really doubt it's 1599. I think 1399 is the right price and it may come in even less than that. It's not usual to see a major vendor drop the price almost 200 bucks even before it comes out.
-
That's probably about the limit for a C10 card right? Maybe they switched to a different interface, which could make one of those camera SD cards a viable source of additional storage, I assume it still sticks out of the chassis though?
If that's intellimemory it should be called a RAM decelerator feature.
-
which config was on amazon for 1215?
