Then you discover that the cheap small notebooks can only run for half the time away from a mains power socket compared to the netbooks.

I think this is true in that many are looking for secondary computers to just surf the web, email and do some word processing. These netbooks are great for that. However and this is my opinion once you get beyond much more than that you'll quickly realize the shortcomings of a netbook. I initially was very excited by them, but once I realize that even watching youtube videos in HD was next to impossible, along with so many limits in other areas, I quickly decided it just didn't meet my needs. I still have my Samsung N120 and it is a great netbook. I will sell it though as I find myself using it less and less now. I then considered a 12" for the bigger display, but they too still have weak processors and basic integrated video so the limitations are still there, though maybe not as bad with the Via Chipset on the Samsung.

The point I am trying to make and being too wordy to do it. Just know what you want or expect out of a netbook, understand its current limitations and then decide. I eventually opted to go with one of the new MacBook Pro's and I have to say I've never been happier. It thin, light and I can take it everywhere, yet it has the power and the display to do anything I want to do. My netbook just never offered that to me, though for what it did do it did well and I was happy with it.

When i get a netbook im only looking to do light gaming on it(Ion platform) and use it to watch youtube in my bed. Its gonna literally be my night PC where i just relax and do everything. i like my 7811 but once i put this thing on the couch and bed forget it :D

Thats why i like the Q320 :) it is small and light and has good battery life im only looking for a minimum of 3 hours and this meets that.

Q320? Doesn't the Sony SR4 blow it away on every aspect? :) except price probably...

That was my thinking with the N120, but hell half the time even some of the standard def stuff on Youtube doesn't play very well. I hope the improved graphics chipset makes the kind of difference you'll need it too in order to be happy with it. My plan was to do just what you are talking about it. I am doing that now, but unfortunately with a different computer all together.

Phil, when i buy something portable i am only looking to spend about 1 grand Max.

Of course later in the year I plan on getting a newer and updated gaming PC thats what holding me back from getting something more expensive.

OTACORB, What about the speed? How fast was windows loading for you? I think the only way it can be acceptable is possibly overclok atom(by .5 ghz) or dual core atom + Ion

Well I've played with it a good bit and XP loads very quickly I'd say withing 30 to 35 seconds. I also installed Win 7 for while and it took more like 45 to 50 seconds to load.

A dual core atom with ion would be sweet! These are some great machines for what most of us have paid for them. But again I caution folks not to expect too, too much! You maybe better off saving up a little longer and getting a bit bigger screen and more power. My MBP for example weights just a pound or so more than some of the current netbooks, its thinner than most of them and though it has a bigger screen and full size keyboard, it also has a CD/DVD drive along with a 7 hour battery. That 7 hours is accurate too I've gotten it many times. But then $450 vs $1200 is a big difference and for some those added features are just not worth it, for me they were. It drove me nuts not being able to do EVERYTHING I wanted.

After using my Samsung N120 for a while I just don't think an Atom CPU is powerful enough for me (and I'm not talking about video playback), and I'm completely convinced the 1024 x 600 screen resolution of most 10" Netbooks is horrific. I think I would rather have an Intel CULV based 11.6" Netbook like the Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T.

Hm, i have a feeling one of those newer models are going to have a G105. ITs just a hunch though especially with the new Asus N10 having it.

Thats fine with XP. Im sure 95% of the people can live with that.

Matte screen is nice, but the price will be the decider. It's likely to cost just as much if not more than an 11.6" CULV based system, and it will be mostly inferior (except perhaps for video acceleration) so it seems like a bit of an orphan.

I can only imagine how crisp the screen looks.

Every netbook screen i have ever looked at, that had a Matte Screen looked amazing. None of those were LED screen either

That's too bad for you guys in the US, I'm very eager to see how the N510 will perform. Hopefully they'll start shipping them to Sweden soon as well, otherwise I might have to order one from Germany as I need it ASAP. Only time will tell I guess.

Yeah I've read about most of the performance regarding the atom and Ion, my main question mark is about the battery life as well. I count that in as performance but perhaps I should've said battery performance to be more specific ^^.

Have read speculations but hopefully we'll be able to get full battery tests with diff apps running etc in a short time.

According to several dutch users the performance of the Samsung N510 is really disappointing.

It can't even play 1080p video smooth and Doom benchmarks are close to X4500 performance.

That is dissapointing. It's the Atom processor that's killing it isn't it.

Maybe their X120 is better. I'm hoping they get rid of the glossy screen though - or have an option for matte.

    Thanks for the update Phil.

Hany, it CANNOT be the ATOM proscessor. Look at the Asus N10 that thing could run A LOT of games. If you read around the site at benchmarks and reviews that one was amazing with the 9300 nvidia and a regular Atom i dont know what happened with this. Asus just updated with there N10JH and it looks awesome i just posted something about it in the Asus Forum

I agree with Red_Dragon, Asus N10 performs ok while it has an Atom too.

I don't know what's going on with the N510, maybe it's the ION LE chipset or maybe the drivers. I'll keep you updated if anything changes.
