My white one has also arrived. I like it a lot sofar. Screen is crisp, bright and very good contrast. System boots quickly. Hitachi 160GB single platter HDD, about 51MB/sec average.

The only downside is the touchpad sofar, size and material. I will have to see if I get used to it.

    Questions welcome.

That's ironic considering Sammy makes pretty excellent 2.5" HDDs. Glad you like it, Phil.

The earliest pre-orders should be shipping soon in the US per the Samsung email quoted in this thread.

VGA output quality is excellent. I've got it connected now to a 22"1680*1050 LCD.

About the whole Nano particles issue: I suggest people who want to discuss it go here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=320455
So this thread can be specifically about NC10.

Fair enough, although knowing that there are nano particles on the keyboard of the NC10 is a NC10 issue.

Hey US customers, it's appeared on eBay now and is eligible for the 25% Live.com cashback currently going on. I just snagged a white one for $375 shipped after cashback. What a deal!

I understand but most Samsung laptops have the same spray so it's more of a general 'issue' than a specific one to NC10.

    6. Click Buy it now.

    7. Should show your cashback before you purchase.

8 Buy it with paypal and then wait for confirmation of your cashback in your Live account.

The white is nice but gets dirty too quickly especially the touch pad.

Well I gave up on the blue one as Play now has it for release in another month! I got the black one from Ebuyer and I have it in my hands now. It looks awesome! Just charging the thing up and then I'm gonna see what it's like to use.

Hunted around a few Currys and PC World stores in London early this week. No stock. Went down Tottenham Court Road on Wednesday and got one from Micro Anvika where they had the black and white ones in stock so I bought a white one.

So far so good. It gets around 3100 in 3DMark2001SE. Had an amusing time playing Postal 2 on the underground train yesterday to the disgust of several other commuters.

One gripe I have is with the Samsung Recovery Solution. Why have a backup and restore facility running permanently in the system tray? Do they expect us to back up every day? Is this a reflection of Samsung's own predicted MTBF? After backing up on installation the 160GB drive is now partitioned into C: and D:, 80GB and 80GB. I'm not 100% sure why.

Crucial didn't have the Samsung NC10 listed on their website, but they got back to me to say that their 2GB CT25664AC667 will work with it. It's a CL5 part. Does anyone know what the fastest compatile DIMM is? I'm hoping that something with 4-4-4-12 timings works in it, as I may as well try and squeeze every last drop out of the thing.

Any standard DDR2 533 or 667 MHz RAM should work. Don't get ripped off by Crucial. While their memory is of high quality, they are costly due to their branding.

didn't think it would but it worked - now, just hope the ebay seller comes through and the cashback actually shows up in my account - MS did confirm in my ebay messages that i should receive it, it's just not processed yet.

I was actually wondering whether to get the netbook or consider an upgrade to a more costly but more functional (with DVD) HP 12.1" swivel touch tx series. Size and weight not much more, but that was my rationale on moving from 8.9 to 10.1 too.

Promo for 30% off HP now. But with this $125 rebate, price spread is much greater now!

I'm personally torn. Blue is my favorite color, but I've always wanted to own a black laptop/netbook. (my current Dell's are an ugly silver color)

I'm disappointed in Samsung in not releasing the black version in the U.S. If they get fewer sales in the U.S., we can say they have learned their lesson.

How come no talks about getting the blue version? Is it that ugly to you guys? I think the problem with the white NC10 is that it will get dirty very easily, so I won't get the white version. Blue is probably my best bet as it's closer to black than the black one.

I kinda like the blue but am not too thrilled about the black keyboard. However, imo, the black looks far more professional and I can get away with taking it to meetings. Not so with the blue. The blue screams airports and net cafes.

Going for the white. Darker colors = more stains and smudges - and since the NC10 seems to have a glossy lid... Not to mention scratches and dings show up more. Black for "professional" =.=", there are "professional" laptops for that segment. Netbooks will just get abused anyways.

Funny thing, but black glossy coverings seem to show scratches way more easily than white, as people found out with the iPod Nano.

I can see how blue is closer to black than the white one, but I actually think black IS closer to black than any other color :D

I own a black glossy HP, and I think it will be easier for me to keep the white one clean than to try and keep the black one smudge free. I think the white looks classy.

Been looking but nothing worthwhile yet.

Interesting the Mini 9 doesn't do well. I wonder why. I like them; best of the SSD 9" models IMHO.

Perhaps I shouldn't spread rumours.... but this one is prsistent and might affect buying decisions: John Lewis are rumoured to start selling the NC10 from about a week or two. So that would mean a free two year warranty and the best customer service!

People were asking for an NC10 forum - someone's set one up on their blog, if anyone's interested?

I can't post links, but: stick "unofficial samsung NC10 blog" into google, click on the first link, and then there's a Forum button at the top of the page.

Main reasons are a low brightness and low contrast display and the battery life:

Just curious, but what do you find wrong with the blue Samsung NC10 having a black keyboard? Do you think the keyboard should be blue, just like how the white one has a white keyboard?

To all the other posters, I'm all over having an NC10 forum. How about one within notebookreview.com if the netbook becomes really popular over the next couple of months?

I guess that is what I would expect but then again, if I actually see such a thing, it might look pretty fugly. Won't know for sure until you see it really. However, I don't like the blue-black contrast for sure. I like the White just fine. I just prefer the black. Mine is still on pre-order. Amazon sucks some times.

Picked up a white one on Ebay for a net cost of $325 ($499 minus 10% off Ebay coupon, shipping included, no taxes, with $125 cashback through the Live Cashback deal). At that price, I couldn't say no.

Is samsung notebooks reliable compare to others like Asus or Hp? Like I'm only familar with the brand name for monitors and tv stuff, but not quite sure about this. I wanted to get a Lenovo s10 but seems like it gets really hot, so i'm deciding whether or not i should try getting NC10.

Samsung reliability is in the same range as those. Samsung have been selling notebooks in Europe and Asia for some years, but an agreement with Dell, who rebadged one of the Samsung notebooks as the Dell X1, has kept Samsung out of the North American notebook market until this year.

I don't really know, all I can say is the NC10 feels very solid. I think it's build to last.

Besides that, it comes with 2 year international warranty, so I'm not worried.

Nice! "the best netbook money can buy" :)

Makes me happy I kept mine.

The Samsung 2 year notebook warranty seems to be standard on mainland Europe but not elsewhere.

I was wondering what you had decided.

That review made me very tempted, but since I have the Toshiba R500 which is lighter, has a bigger screen and a bit more battery life (and 3 x the price) then I can't think of a good justification for getting the NC10.

    John
