Hello!
(excuse me for my bad english)
I have three questions:
1) Can we stop lights around "turbo" and "stop laptop" (and all other lights)?
2) Can we set/configure the lights in each mode?
3) Is there the reflection/glare with the screen?
Thank you! -
Just picked up the Geforce GTX 675m version.
First impressions:
1. Cheap build quality. For the amount of money I paid for this laptop the build quality should have been better. The lid is made of cheap glossy plastic. On the other hand the bezel around the keyboard is quite nice. It's aluminum or magnesium (cant tell which). The downside there is a good chance it will get too warm during long gaming sessions.
2. The keyboard. The keyboard glows different colors depending on whether the unit is in gaming or normal usage mode (The backlight switches to off when in battery conservation mode). On the other hand the actual keyboard style is a step in the wrong direction. Instead of being chiclet style it's a standard laptop keyboard circa mid 2000's. Also, the arrow keys are slightly rounded instead on being indented. Sweaty fingers will slide off easily during long gaming sessions. Finally, the keyboard is uncomfortable to type on. There is too much resistance.
3. Looking through the BIOS I couldnt find any options that would allow me to setup Raid 0 (a Samsung rep told me the laptop does support Raid 0). Depending on the response I get from Samsung support I may end up returning the unit to the store.
I will post more info in a day or so. -
Well, depends on your preference I suppose.
-
Anyways, guys I'm not MIA, I've just been busy. I've also been playing BF3. The graphics, on ULTRA settings, look amazing, and run flawlessly. Though I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this game, and get very few kills, I'm still having fun with this game!
I guess I will try to make a video either tomorrow or the next day using a screen capture. But I don't wanna spend any money on buying a program to do this. Anyways, I'll get at you guys later! -
Before I placed my order with Amazon a couple days ago, I e-mailed customer service and asked them if they planned on stocking this item as you could only order through a few other vendors using your Amazon account. A few hours later they added Amazon as a shipper, but delivery was going to be 4-6 weeks out. I ordered anyway. This morning I received an e-mail that they moved up my delivery date to next week. They are also now showing them as a Amazon stocked item.
-
So its been few weeks now. Any news on the 7970M model?
-
how are the temps on this laptop during gaming? does it have good ventilation? Im still sticking with clevo.

Apple did NOT invent chiclet keyboard. The first chiclet keyboards appeared in the early 80s (probably even earlier). Sinclair ZX Spectrum was one of the first home computers to include chiclet style keyboard (I used to own one). Now chiclet style keyboards can be found on just about any brand. Even Samsung has them on some of their laptops. Why you ask? Because some people find them more comfortable to type on.
Now that we have this out of the way, I wont try to convince an obvious Samsung fan boy of the shortcomings of the current keyboard. Not my job, besides I dont even feel like it. Trying to convert someone to your way of thinking is like trying to 69 a grizzly bear (be advised: do NOT attempt). I have a two year old Asus G73JH and it has a chiclet style keyboard. Its so much nicer to type on. The keyboard on the Samsung doesnt even come close to the feel of the G73 keyboard. It feels hard, and some of the keys are rounded instead of being indented. Keys are indented in order to make it easier for your fingers to stay on top of them. When you have keys that are rounded you fingers have the tendency to slide off when sweaty. Obviously this is my personal opinion, my preference. Im simply giving you MY first impression of the laptop.
This version of Samsung NP700G7C comes with Geforce 675 GTX and not AMDs Radeon. It does not support 3d. And it definitely does not have 120Hz screen.
I priced a computer from Sager with just about the same specs. Got more or less the same price ($1,924.00, plus free shipping). So, yes, you can get a laptop with these specs from other manufacturers for this price.
Finally, Samsungs customer service seems to be a little confused about this model. First rep tells me that this laptop supports Raid 0. The next one says it doesnt. Then I get an email that tells me that I need to take it to the store where I bought it and have them setup Raid 0 as they dont have that documentation on hand. Somehow Samsung missed the idea behind tech support. -
Any news on Samsung with 7970M? So far its only AW and Sager (random custom laptops) with it. right?
-
Second you spend a whole paragraph talkinging about indented or concave keys, then you attribute that to chiclet keyboards. This means you A are not at all aware of what the average chiclet keyboard is like, and or B got one of the very rarest chiclet keyboards that actually breaks this trend, but B still does not absolve you of A because clearly you have not used many chiclet keyboards currently on the market. The truth is exactly the opposite of what you decribe. MOST normal keyboards are concave just as you claim to like and most chiclet keyboards are flat so your fingers can slip off. Some chiclets are slightly concave or convex but I have not actually put my hands on one that is as concave as the samsung keys. So everything you claim to want about an indent you recieved.. but you are not happy.
Also please link me to the sager you found with a 120hz display.

Can someone answer a quick question, this unit has 2 750gb hard drives installed I believe. What would be the process to remove one and replace with an SSD, or would both the 750's have to come out? I assume it comes with Windows disc to make this an easy upgrade?
Thanks! -
I tried to clone my 750GB to the new 256GB SSD drive at first using Acronis but it failed saying that the destination SSD drive did not have enough space to transfer my HHD1. I gave up and decided to just do a fresh install using the Samsung provided Windows 7 recovery disc. Here are steps you must take to install a SSD drive with fresh image load:
1) First get all of the Drivers and Software downloads from the Samsung Support site for your laptop model NP700G7C-S01.
2) Save all these files onto your 2nd HDD2 which is already included in your laptop. You will need them later after finishing install of Windows 7 64 bit OS.
3) Power off your laptop and re-boot into CMOS BIOS setup.
4) In the BIOS setup find the menu to change the laptop to manually enable AHCI mode. (This is just a precaution to make sure it loads as AHCI mode even though they say Windows 7 will automatically detect it).
5) Find the boot sequence menu and change it so that the CD drive is the first device to boot from. (the default is to boot from your HHD1 drive which you do not want right now!)
6) Save and exit your BIOS and power off the laptop.
7) Now Install your new SSD drive replacing the HHD1 750GB boot hard drive.
8) Insert your Windows 7 recovery CD into the disc drive.
9) Boot the laptop. (it should load from the CD and begin installing Windows 7 OS. Make sure you select to install it to your new SSD drive!)
10) After Windows 7 OS has finished installing from the CD you will have a bare bones install without any of the required Samsung, Intel nor NVDIA drivers installed.
11) Open your computer folder and go to the 2nd Hard drive where you saved all the Samsung Drivers and Software downloads from step 1.
12) Begin unzipping and loading each of the 64Bit driver files. Also load the file named "Chipset_9.3.0.1019.zip" that Samsung listed as a 32Bit OS file.
13) After you've loaded the drivers and have probably had to reboot a few times during the installs, you can begin loading the Software packages you downloaded.
14) I have done these steps and got my system back up to almost like it came out of the box. However, some software is not there such as the Norton Antivirus package. You will have to obtain that on your own I guess.
Update: Looks like the first software package you should load is this Easy Software Installer utility named "Easy_Software_Manager_1.1.41.25". It actually tells you
what software packages you need to load and it lets you select and install them. It tells you what is installed already and what is not installed. It also gives you access to all the other software
that is missing from their Support Download page. So you can get Norton IS 2012, Skype, etc. back that is on the standard hard drive delivered.
So far my laptop with SSD install seems to be running fine and it is way faster to boot and run programs now. My Windows Experience Index for the SSD drive reads 7.9 now as compared to the old HD which always stuck at 5.9 ranking.
Hope these steps were clear enough and helped. -

If you guys watch my youtube videos, you'll see that I'm trying to get to the bottom of whether or not this thing can do 3D. I have discovered that, hardware wise, it is most certainly capable of 3D. I hope Samsung will update this bad boy to be able to do 3D. All it would need is a kit with an IR emitter and a pair of Active Shutter glasses.
SASMUNG, UNLOCK THIS BEAST! -
Thanks Infobits for detailing all of these steps for me, I read through most of this thread and didn't see anything. Are the drives labeled inside the machine, so i know which is drive 1 and drive 2? Sounds like it shouldn't be too much of a challenge. +1 rep for you!!

You are now essentially back tracking on all your talk about indented keys. You apparently do not like the resistance of the keys is what I understand now. Which is fine but that has to do with the scissor and or dome switch and has nothing to do with the style / shape or chiclet.
I have also checked out the samsung in microcenter, it is indeed capable of running 120hz. Other people here including yourself should be able to confirm that.
I have checked out a 17 inch clevo in person the keys are flat so I doubt you will gain anything there. They currently offer no 120hz option that I am aware of. And the keyboard I used failed KRO tests this samsung passed. There is also absolutely no word that I have seen from any sager/clevo sellers indicating they know if or when a 120 hz display will be available. -
Update: I updated the SSD installation steps posting (a few posts back from here) with my updated install findings loading the Samsung software(s). Re-read the update I added after step 14. -

Hey just received my new laptop and wanted to let others know that it has met my expectations. One thing i would like is if we could start an actual review thread for owners of this laptop rather then all this stuff about how great the HD7970m is going to be. As of now that laptop DOES NOT exist and all the talk does is make owners of this laptop feel as though its not good, they were stupid for not waiting or even discourage sales (so that laptop u all are hoping for never is manufactured). Would like to comment and discuss on this laptop with out AMD or ATI people talking about how its not good and people should wait to purchase something that doesnt exist. Just to add, no matter when u purchase a laptop or desktop there will always be new graphic cards comming out that make ur "top of the line card" when purchased it seem outdated. I mean if u really want the best u might as well never purchase one because as soon as u buy the AMD HD 7970, 6months down the road something better will be out. I really dont get all this talk about waiting. By that logic u should never buy anything because what u buy will always be bested by something else. Anyhow i like the laptop and unlike others couldnt wait, i needed a new rig so i purchased the best that was available within my price range.
Just really wish we had a forum for this model of the laptop and not some forum about a version that doesnt exist, would be way more helpfull to owners and prospective buyers of this version and model -
The above line was typed with both shift keys depressed, hope this helps.
Loving the laptop, played Diablo 3 on max settings and was blown away. I would be happy to answer any other questions anyone has. -
1. Keyboard style feels like it belongs in an office computer and not a gaming laptop (not the backlight, which is neat, but the actual keyboard style\type used).
2. Do not like the key response\resistance. The keyboard seems stiff.
3. The arrow keys are bulging outward instead of being indented like the rest of the keyboard. Odd design choice.
4. The angle at which the keys are positioned feels off. Every other keyboard I used in the past felt different\better.
See? Not backtracking anything. There are users that will like this keyboard, others will not. Personally I prefer the MSI Ge7x and Asus G7x keyboards to this one.
This is my last post about the keyboard. Its not my main issue with this laptop, these are:
1. Raid 0, where is it? Before the purchase I talked to a Samsung rep. I was told the laptop does indeed support Raid 0 (this is my main reason for considering this laptop). After the purchase I skimmed over the BIOS. No settings for Raid 0 anywhere. The next rep I talked to told me no Raid 0. So unless there is a hidden option for setting up Raid 0 that I dont see it does not have it. I have two 240Gbs Vertex SSDs that were meant for this laptop.
2. The outer shell fells and looks cheap. This kind of design belongs on a low end $300 Acer and not Samsung known for some slick designs in most of their products. Cheap glossy plastic works if you like bling-bling. I dont.
3. Uninformed Samsung customer service reps that seem to be pulling answers from a Magic 8 Ball. I dread the day when I would have to send this thing for any warranty repair.
Finally the 120Hz screen. Personally I dont care if the screen is 120Hz. The Geforce 675m GTX does not support 3d in its current form on this laptop (at this time). If someone can make it work, kudos to them. As for frame rates Im perfectly happy with 60fps. Anything above 60 is just frosting. -
What is raid 0?
-
really disappointed with samsung on the 7970m series..
been a while and there is still no news..
i really dont like AW or sager.. guess i may get the 675m instead -

If you already own this laptop, your new toy may very well be capable of 3D. We are trying to get to the bottom of this. Please help us on this effort. Watch this latest video, and please help us figure this out. We want to know if:
#1 This laptop can at least output in 3D via HDMI to a 3D capable TV.
And
#2 This laptop can do 3D on it's own screen if one were to purchase the Nvidia 3D glasses and emitter kit.
If you own this laptop, and are interested, please help us. Watch this youtube video I posted, and watch the others I have posted as well. Thanks in advance!
Can the NP700G7C do 3D? - YouTube -
Anyway, I'm curious about the build quality. You mention it feels cheap, how does it compare to, say, the latest Sager models? I will be getting either this, or a Sager 15" or 17", with a 7970m, and I don't want it to feel like I'm buying a toy.
Also, how does the screen compare to the best I can get in a new Sager? The 15" Sager offers an option for a bright, color-accurate, display. Would this be comparable to what's in the Series 7? One of the reasons I've considered the Series 7 so strongly is because I know Samsung has great screens, and that's, IMO, one of the most important factors because it's what you actually look at when your using it. -
0, systematically splitting up data across two medium. And
1, copying every bit and storing it redundently on two medium.
Unlike typical govt. organizations, all of RAID's operations are documented thoroughtly on Wikipedia (including higher cardinal functions) and among the respective communities concerned with data inspections and storage.
But, if you talk to the mere lay person, RAID does't exist. -
I posted about this notebook not having raid 0 previously. See page 49 post #409 This notebook is not capable of raid 0
Someone in a previous post called Samsung to ask if this notebook is raid 0? Samsung will not know if the notebook is capable of raid 0. Samsung hires call center people to answer basic questions. Just like HP, Toshiba and some others (except Alienware, most of their technical support can answer technical questions). Calling Samsung for a technical question is like going to Best Buy and asking them a technical question. You will just get a blank stare. That what these forums are for. Sending your laptop in for servicing is a different story. They have dedicated technicians to service your laptop just like Asus, HP, Toshiba, etc. I am not defending Samsung, this is the same story for any of these big name companies. -
With Intel HM76 chipset, there is no way hardware RAID is supported.

Open notepad and put your fingers on sdf jkl all at the same time. Then press them all down at once and repeat 5 times. Then press ENTER. repeat this sequence 10 times.
Finally just hold down left shift, E, then press space. Then switch it up and hold shift and space and press E.
Then do the same with S, D, F.
Post the resulting text input here.
This will let gamers who use ESDF configs know if they are going to get a good keyboard.
Also I was in microcenter testing this keyboard and the left shift was not working apparently, anyone know if this was also a feature of the gaming mode or anything? -

Hmm as far as the 3D goes I have the option of "steroscopic 3d" by updating to a non samsung nvidia driver (more up to date then on samsung website) while connected to a monitor that supports the nvidia 3d vision. all I had to do was modify the nv_disp.inf. I might be on to something? lol

It seems I am one of the few people interested in 3D.. In case you were wondering, I just spoke to Samsung on this matter, and they are going to check into it and get back to me. I asked, if one were to buy a 3D emitter and the active shutter glasses, could this laptop do 3D.. The screen can do 120hz, so there is no reason that the drivers couldn't be updated to support 3D. I explained to them that this is a missed opportunity for Samsung. We'll see what they say!

Keyboards are typically 2KRO (2 key rollover) It means you can press ANY 2 keys at the same time on the keyboard and they will work. That is where it ends. But most keyboard makers try to efficiently design keyboards to save money and so users do not notice this limitation. As such, often the modifier keys like SHIFT, ALT, and CTRL are more like 3KRO. For a long time it was very hard to even figure out what was going on as most people were ignorant on this issue. They would just rebind keys in games, or buy different keyboards that randomly worked better. Eventually people started to notice these really old keyboards were NKRO (they could accept ANY combination of keys up to 16-18 which is more than fingers you have (I think, pics or shens)
What you see above is what you expect to see so you might be surprised if you had results like this. (Well not after I did all that explaining).

What that shows me is that the keyboard is not registering all the keys. A blind person would not be able to use this keyboard and a gamer might want to investigate it very carefully before buying it. It turns out this is very common. In fact I stopped into Mythlogic which is a Clevo builder and their 17 inch laptop had a result like above.

The Great Keyboard N-Key Rollover (NKRO) Test/Round-up - [H]ard|Forum
Here is a post with tons of keyboards tested.
Both of the tests above try to make a quick way of discerning the quality of roll over status, but neither is perfect, some laptops will score perfect on both of those tests and then when you get it home you will find a fatal flaw that gets in the way of your gaming or work. This is why I asked for tests on ESDF, I use ESDF to game, and shift is typically run/jet/aux, space is jump. You might be highly disappointed to know that the ASUS G75 which is one of the biggest competitors to this laptop will not allow me to hold SPACE, SHIFT and E at the same time which means I cannot jump or move forward. This is obviously not acceptable for a gaming laptop.
The biggest problem with laptops is that unlike a desktop you are married to a whole config of hardware. And most of it you cannot configure much if at all. For instance most only have 1 or 2 keyboard choices. So if the laptop fails this test it is out for me, however for most people they don’t make decisions based on this so laptop makers don’t care, they just buy keyboards for other chiclet keys and flashy lights. On top of that people often do not understand key rollover and they do things like blame the game, windows or something unrelated.
The second big problem is the so called antighosting on many gaming laptops is just a special design of key rollover that tries to make most combinations of keys work well around the WASD cluster. However gamers who play more keyboard intensive games may run out of options and gamers who try to move their configs to ESDF or RDFG will also have problems. More or less antighosting was a bad term coined to allow manufacturers to keep selling ty keyboards as gaming keyboard instead of designing true NKRO keyboards. Even a 6KRO keyboard would be acceptable to most, in fact NKRO is only 6KRO if it is over USB due to USB limitations.
You know that is sad, I have hypothesized that many of the things we do and like in the world of computers are the result of hardware limitations. For instance modifier keys like SHIFT, ALT, CTRL need to work with other keys so they are typically made to have better key rollover, as such the whole gaming world has sort of moved to WASD configs instead of much more efficient RDFG or ESDF configs where you have more keys close to access. Some people argue it is about spacing but I think that was only a small part of the decision. I also think that the move to LCDs which are slower than CRTS is a big part of why fast paced games lost popularity to much slower paced games. People could not react quickly in games like HLDM, Quake, UT and Tribes on LCDs so games like CS, BF, COD became more popular.
So spread the word and google more about this issue eventually one day consumers might start demanding NKRO in high enough numbers that most laptops will come with it. Haha who am I kidding probably a pipe dream people want macbook airs.
