Here is an example:
Here, have a TV. It's a LED HDTV. You get home and the box has "3D" written on it, but does not come with any glasses. You were fine with a regular TV, but now that you know it has 3D, you want to go out and buy some 3D glasses.

for those of you that got this laptop, does your laptop have a different LED strength light for the top 3 buttons.
For example, it looks like the backlight key button has the brightest 4 red LEDS when selected, the WiFi second strongest and then the mute has the weakest 4 LED lights.
Is this normal? Just curious -
-
Is there an option on those red LEDS's i am missing? hmm
the red dots are very faint on my wifi, bright on the lightbulb and a ok on the mute. I am going to guess if yours are all 100% the same that i have an issue here.
Would you say yours are very bright? -

Anyone else that doesn't care about the 3d, all i want is the 7970m. The 3d reduces the framerate by miles. Any news on the samsung gamer with 7970m?

I notice sporadic screensaver behavour with my Samsung NP700G7C-S01US laptop Windows 7 64 Bit OS software. Nothing serious but it seems to keep changing my screensaver timeout settings to its own liking and not to what I set it as. The most notable change is if you set a screensaver timeout setting in the lower powered modes and then switch to Gamer Mode, it always defaults the screensaver back to 1 minute timeout. I don't know if this is a buggy Samsung software doing this or is it how Samsung intended it to behave but I find it annoying. I also don't like the wide touchpad placement because whenever I type anything, my palms are always hitting the edges of the touchpad and moving the cursor or changing the window focus on me. I don't like to turn the touchpad off all the time, so it is another "con" I personally don't like about the touchpad. Other than these two quirks (which are not serious mind you) I love the rest of this laptop. The keyboard is just fine. Just that wide touchpads like this are a nusance. My HP DV6 laptop has the same issue with its wide touchpad. So it is not just the Samsung laptop has this ergonomics issue.

I'm in the market for a new laptop. My wife is fed up with her hand-me-down HP ZD8000 which was a hot laptop when I bought it, but doesn't keep up any more. I'm probably going to buy something near the bleeding edge of technology, and give her my HP DV6T Core i7, which is much faster than the older HP but annoys me with its low-resolution LCD screen (1366x768). So when I saw the new Samsung Series 7 notebooks I was very interested.
The NP700Z7C-S01US caught my eye first, and reading through the long thread on it here on this web site was extremely encouraging. The main things I didn't like a lot were the RAM configuration (8 Gb max stock, 12 Gb max easy user upgrade but with assymetrical DIMMs which slows response speed) and the inability to get it with a Blu-Ray drive.
So I started looking into the NP700G7C-S01US and reading through the current thread. I was shocked at the differences I found in the attitude of posters about the two machines. On this thread, a few people have bought the unit and seem to be mostly pleased with their new laptops, but a vocal majority are carping about the fact that they can only buy one today with an NVIDIA GTX675M, and have to wait for a future model with the HD7970M graphics adapter from AMD. The rest are carping about it being too big or too heavy.
Hmmm, this one is twice as thick as the other one (2 inches vs. 1 inch), but within a few tenths of an inch of one another in width and depth; and this one is 8.4 Lb vs 6.4 Lb, a whole 30% heavier. But the owners on the other thread seem to concur that the slimline model is very carryable.
Since I'm not a gamer, and not interested in 3D on either the laptop screen or when plugged into an external monitor via HDMI, I think that the thinner model is looking more appealing all the time. The $500 I would save by buying the other model would easily cover the cost of a nice big SSD HD and a memory DIMM to bring it up to 12 Gb; the lack of Blu-Ray could be managed with an external USB drive, since the ability to read BD discs is infrequent for me. And with an external BD disc drive, I could also get it as a BD-R/W drive instead of BD-R/O.
Rather than simply adding to the noise about why NOT to buy one of the current vintage NP700G7C models, let me say something potentially positive about the current discussion.
A recent bunch of questions asked about the possibility of making the current vintage NP700G7C model with the NVIDIA card work with 3D. If those folks would go back through the earlier postings in this thread, they would see that it has been done by one user who used the HDMI output of the laptop into his big screen Samsung LCD TV unit, and he even posted a link to a list of what TV systems could be used in this manner. So, instead of asking the same questions over and over again, it pays to read the earlier messages in the thread for your answers.
Best wishes to all of you, whether you now own the NP700G7C or are still on the fence about buying one... -
Maximum temperatures in full load?
Full hd resolution is too small for office / internet? -
-
About display? Is it small full hd resolution to use internet/office? -
I live here in Texas where it's 100+ degrees. Temps on heavy gaming with AA on and everything maxed never goes above 80 degrees. Keep in mind that these Nvidia cards are tested way above this and can safely function at temps that regular GPU's can't.

When you walk outside, does it feel like an oven? It's almost like the sun is right above your head. Oh and Avengi is right. Nvidia cards are built like tanks just like Intel processors. They can withstand heat better than the insignificant, peasant rival. -
I know this has been asked many times but is there really still no sign on samsung 700g7c with 7970m? Because this is really pushing me to buy a p170em instead x.x

Quality issues happens with most companies. Wait.... you mentioned intel too? Remember the P67/H67 chipset SATA bug? Intel (through mainboard makers) replaced a lot of cards that went on the market, and delaying new stock with over 3 months.http://newsroom.intel.com/community...es-chipset-design-error-implementing-solution

Hey FWIW, I found another review on this Samsung NP700G7C-S01US laptop. They say good things about it and compared it to an Asus G75VW-DS71 and MSI GT70 laptop that they also said they had reviewed... and they say that this Samsung laptop is the fastest laptop they've tested so far.

I don't know hum... Those temps look too high for my taste. I'm interested in this laptop but knowing nVidia and their issues with the geforce 6150 line and my bad luck with 2 HP Pavilions with those graphic cards, don't know... The Asus G75vw looks like a better choice just for the cooling system which looks to be more efficiente.
What do you think guys, I'm thinking about the Asus G75vw, Sager/Clevo NP9170 and the MSi GT70, all good values for money. -

I won't worry about Nvidia past problems all this new generation cards are different and they can suffer different problems
The Asus G75 is a beautiful machine real strong in construction and nice design I can easily say the best looking laptop of all the bunch but the screen sucks big time if you don't believe go to bestbuy and test it they use a chimei panel I don't know the top end model
also the GTG670M is not remotely close to the 675M remember the screen on the Samsung gamer is the same as the one on the Alienware M17XR3-R4 120HZ 400nit display one of the best laptops screens right now
Clevo are good laptops you can upgrade almost anything on those and they have the horse power so those are good options they also offer B+RG screens on those or 92% color gamut AUO panels real nice -
If I were to do a fresh install of Windows Ultimate, would all the mode stuff still work?

So let me get this straight. The 7970m is not being released in the US release of this laptop? NOO!!!!!!!! But looking at the temps, i wonder if this unit can even handle the 7970m.
Anyways I'm wondering if the keyboard can be replaced. It looks flimsy, but it might just be me or preference. I always wanted the Mac style keys. Looks more sturdy and i guess attractive. -

At first I used to like the ASUS G75vw but later I felt like it wasn't for me. I haven't seen one in person yet (since I'm not from the USA - a friend of mine will buy the laptop for me this summer). I have been looking for a good gaming laptop that would be enough for decent gaming for the next few years.
I really like the price point of the ASUS G75VW-BBK5 but I would have to pay taxes which kills the deal for me. I wouldn't like to spend more than US $1400 for a laptop but I realize that this machine will be with me for the next three of four years and must be timeproof.
So, I started to look at laptops in the $1700 - $1800 dollar price range and there are several options:
MSI Computer G Series GT70 0NC-012US (US $1849,99)
MSI Computer G Series GT70 0NC-008US (US $1549,99)
ASUS G75VW-AS71 (US $1499,99)
ASUS G75VW-DS72 (US $1793,48)
Samsung Series 7 NP700G7C-S01US (US $1899,00)
Samsung Series 7 NP700Z7C-S01US (US $1499,99 Amazon - US $1497,98 Bestbuy)
Sager NP9170/Clevo P170EM (Configured as the Samsung Gamer 7) US $1829,00 - Cash price US $1774,13 including Windows 7 Home Premium and the standard screen (don't know if the standard Sager screen is as good as the Sammy's 400 nit).
The MSI offers somewhat bang for the buck but the design it's a bit tacky if you like, and some reviews have said that the keyboard and overall build quality is subpar considering that it's supposed to be a high end gaming laptop. The GT70 0NC-012US (US $1849,99) on the plus side offers, 750GB HDD and 128GB SSD, killer game networking, Dynaudio Premium Sound Speakers with THX TruStudio PRO and Blu-ray burner. On the down side it only offers 12GB RAM and nVidia GTX 670M.
The ASUS G75VW-DS72 (US $1793,48) has the same capacity as the Samsung, 1,5TB of HDD space, lacks of RAM (12GB) and the video card is weak but it's supposed to overclock very well and it's cooler while stressed due to the new fabrication process, and also has Blu-ray drive (which it's not important for me). At this point, the Samsung Samsung Series 7 NP700Z7C-S01US, the MSI GT70 0NC-008US or even the ASUS G75VW-BBK5 (Bestbuy model) offers more bang for the buck in comparisson.
Finally the Sager NP9170/Clevo P170M offers the best price/performance. It's supposed to be well put together, the standard screen it's a good one and the MXM card guarantee upgradability if desired. The cooling system it's pretty good and it's on par with the ASUS G75, that means the best cooling solution for a gaming laptop these days.
I have always worried about temps on my laptops, my nightmare with nvidia geforce go 6150 on my dv6000z and v3000z make me paranoid about buying an nvidia equiped laptop.
Right now I'm on the fence about which one to choose, considering the raw power of the GTX675M and the quality screen, the possibility of 3D support and nice design, the Samsung Series 7 Gamer looks like a good buy in comparisson versus the ASUS and MSI, heck, even the Sager.
What about the build quality of the 7 Series Gamer? I have read that it's mostly build of plastic materials, it's better put together than the MSI.
Thank you for your inputs. -
