Doubtful, it will probably be $2000 and upwards.

I really do hope we get the hm77 chip set. It seems like a big improvement over hm76. raid support, smart response and esata all seem really nice to me.
-
For me, the HM77 is what will put this laptop over the edge from the M17x. Any news about MXM 3.1 (I'd even do 3.0, not like I'll be exceeding that bandwidth anytime soon) or ease of replacement for CPU from prior experience with Samsung laptops (socket access, reseating heatsinks, etc.)?
Any picture sets yet? -
I think all of the Samsung Series 7 Gamers have (will have) the HM76. All of the websites that list the notebook with the HD7970M (and the GTX675M) all say HM76. I was going to comment on this in one of my earlier posts that the HM76 is a horrible choice by Samsung if this ends up being the case because as a gamer, most people want raid.
-
Well, its a bad choice most definately, but since its capable of running single 500mbs sandforce drive, its not so big deal. Most of us dont care for more, since benefit is close to nothing. More beneficial would be to use raid1 or 10 for data protection, but this you can do by soft raid anyway.
Not a dealbreaker for me, but still a negative for not having hm77.
For my needs, i would very much like to see 15 inch laptop from them with same hardware. 3610qm and Hd7970. They could out-do Clevo 150 for looks. -
Same thing
-
Its finally on the US Samsung website.
Series 7 17.3 Notebook -
Good catch ARR53. Unfortunately no sign of the HD7970M or the 3D version. I hope that changes but it’s not looking good for the US version. This is a funny quote on the US Samsung Website "PWNS the Competition"
Easy there Samsung, you can’t brag just yet!
-
There is no mention on the website at all for the 3d 7970m model unlike the canada/uk site. I hope we get the 3d model too
-
If the US doesn't get a 3D 7970 model, would there be any issues with importing a Canadian model? Like would everything be compatible?
-
Yes it would be compatible BUT there could be warranty issues. Not sure about that, you would need to check with Samsung. IF that were the case, you would just need to make sure the reseller will honor a warranty (although shipping back to Canada if something went wrong could be a nightmare and quite costly) or just get a Square Trade warranty. That would be the first items I would check. Unfortunately at the moment the other thing not in your favor is the Canadian dollar is worth a bit more than the US dollar. Not much but it works out to $1,800 US = $CAD 1,834.94. Plus shipping might be a little costly as well.
Just some things to think about. Lets hope Samsung has not had a chance to list the 7970M US version yet. Its a long shot since they should have listed the 7970M with the GTX675M even if they dont have the cards yet (just like they have on the international sites). -
Where would you import from if the us does not get the 3d model? what is the website?
-
For me, I wouldnt. I am actually going to order a different model all together. I will be using this as my everyday PC so I NEED the warranty. I decided NOT to get the GTX675M unit I had on ordered. I just placed an order for a completely different brand/model. I realized that the 7970M is important to me IF I want this notebook to last me 2-3 years. Being that Samsung is up in the air, I need to move on.
I would look into Square Trade. I have read allot of good things about their warranty SO, buying from Canada may not be a bad move (if you have to).
Just my thoughts. -
-
Have you given up on this laptop? should I wait to see if there will be a 7970m version or should I just look at a different laptop?
-
That's the 675m model I want the 7970m 3d edition.
-
I decided to move on BUT that is not a reason for you to. The HD7970M's are not available to resellers yet so there is still time to wait should you want to hold out to see what Samsung ends up doing for the US release.
I really like the Samsung, I thought it was a well built, nice sized and well suited for what I need from a business/gaming laptop but my current computer is on its last leg and I need to submit a pre-order and commit. Plus I found a reseller that I was blown away with their service and the care that goes into building the units. -
Well, the 3D/7970 model is not mentioned on the UK/CA website besides:"*NVIDIA® Geforce® GTX 675M (2D Model) / AMD Radeon HD 7970M (3D Model)" The specs don't even mention the 7970 so I'm wondering if the 3d/7970 will be a currently unannonced diffent model. Like a 700g7 D
-
Well what is sad is Samsung is (has) investing so much money into 3D (promotion, awareness of 3D, etc) and one of the strongest 3D markets (USA) may not get a 3D model is a market set back on their behalf. Like I mention in a previous post, I am in the 3D industry.
-
Does anyone have any information on the MXM standard (if any) that this laptop will support?
-
Will this laptop support a SATA 3 SSD?
-
Problem? Is that possible?
-
That's what I'm wondering I bought a Intel 520 Series 6gb/s sata 3 SSD. hope I can take advantage of the speed.
-

I can't think of a valid reason why it wouldn't. SATA 3 drives are now mainstream.
Two storage bays is likely. If any of the few remaining HDD manufacturers are making a 1TB 7200rpm 2.5" HDD then they are keeping quiet about it.

What size laptop carrying case would this one fit in? Could I get a 17 inch one even though its 17.3 inch or should I get a 18 inch one? (rather get the 17 inch if it fits)
-
Wow, seems like this laptop is the only way to get 7970M and 120Hz screen both working! I am really excited now! Hope it will be available in Europe soon. Crossing my fingers.
P.S. I have lots of Samsung productions, so there are no doubts about the quality. -
For Alienware, the GTX 675 is more expensive than the 7970 oO?
Problem? -
Simple answer: NVIDIA
-
Moussa93 - That is strange. Maybe there is a nice royalty that Alienware (Dell) has to pay to Nvidia that they need to increase the price for
. Not sure but the price difference is definitely strange.
I just found benchmarks (using Heaven Benchmark 3.0) comparing the GTX 580M (GTX675M) and the 6990M Cross Fire to the 7970M and wow is the 7970M impressive!.
These images are from the Alienware (7970M) forum on NBR. Credit goes to them. I just took the pics and info from several different posts and consolidated them. According to them, everything was stock, nothing was overclocked. I guess a few people already received the 7970M. I think someone else a few posts earlier was wondering about the performance difference in GPU's as well.
Keep in mind that none of these are official and are all from different individuals. Tests may vary but it gives you a general idea as to what these graphic cards are capable of doing. I tried to make sure everything was similar in each test (i.e. CPU, program version, etc) Also I read that the "official" drivers for the 7970M have not been released so this may affect the score later.

Mike, where's the posting for 580M? There's only the SLI results.
-
I could not find the benchmark for the GTX580M using version 3.0 of the software. I could find it with someone using version 2.5 but then the results would be skewed. I am still looking through the threads and if I find an accurate benchmark, I will revise my post for sure. There are over 80+ pages in that thread discussing this graphics card

Are you talking about Samsung 7 gamer NP700g7c that's equipped with GTX 675M? Yes, websites like tigerdirect, Amazon, Newegg, Circuitcity has them.

First time using this benchmark. Dont know if I did it correctly with the right settings. This is with GTX 660M ASUS g75 -
Hawaii + Newegg = no tax

Thanks for your contribution

Then it will be correct. -
AHHH! You beat me!

I just read through this thread, and it really surprised me that this ivy bridge i7 was available to buy before the desktop IB launch day. And it wasn't even like a day or two, it was a full week or two ahead. This is the first samsung IB I've seen available to buy. I think TigerDirect made a mistake somewhere. Stock is starting to show up at a few other stores now. Looks like newegg just ran out of stock, Amazon still has some available, and J&R is no preorder.

Paul heres the benchmark for 660m with tess on normal

Perfect
Thanks !
Seems like a 7970m is 2.5x faster than the 660m - both stock, though the 660m will run games at reasonable FPS and RES.
