If it appears in Disk Management, you should be able to format the drive and give it a Drive letter designation.

    Noobie questions!

1.Whats the difference between ExpressCache technology HD VS SATA III HD? Whats faster? I'm guessing SATA III? since it's more expensive? lol.

I have a SATA 120GB that I bought a month ago. That should be my primary HD and 1.5TB ExpressCache tech HD as my secondary, right?

    2. Another question is that, Amazon sells the Samsung one with 1.5 TB HD with Express Cache tech.... while J&R sells the one with 2TB HD with Express Cache tech. One of them is wrong, right?

Amazon Version Here Amazon.com: Samsung Series 7 NP700G7C-S01US 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories

J&R Version Here Samsung NP700G7C-S01US Series 7 Gamer 17.3" Notebook PC in PC Notebook Computers | JR.com

Yes. SATA is significantly faster. ExpressCache boosts HDD performance mainly through the near zero access time to the files that get cached.
Yes, you should make the SSD into your boot drive.

I think that the 1.5GB is 2 x 750GB 7200rpm and 2TB is 2 x 1TB 5400rpm (each of those is the maximum available cpacity / speed combination in 2.5"). If you replace one HDD with the SSD then your total capacity willl be SSD + 1 x HDD. The ExpressCache is mounted on the mainboard, not on the HDD. You won't need it once you have the SSD installed.

yeah you're probably really worried about wasting the employees' time. I guess that's why you kept saying a few posts back that you were gonna order the 675m version and return it when the 7970 comes out in a couple weeks. Yeah, cause that's not wasting peoples time and money. think about what your saying, Especially when you write things like "I can see myself dancing on the clouds". I can see you dancing on more than that. I hope you're a girl, for your sake

Where did you get this image from? I been searching online and asking some Samsung/AMD reps and they are not aware that Samsung's laptop will have AMD 7970 card near the future. Can you provide a source link?

As of now, I am not 100% convinced that Samsung will have 7970m card option. :(

    UPDATE

I actually found a source now from the official UK /Canada Samsung website. I believe 7970M is only offered with the 3-D model.

    UK Version
    http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/pc-peripherals/notebook-computers/high-performance/NP700G7C-S01UK-features

    Canada Version
    http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/office/mobile-computing/notebook/NP700G7C-S01CA-features

I'm sure this might be old news for some. Sorry for repost if thats the case

If the non 3D 675M version is $1899.99 at the moment... we can expect the 3D 7970M version to be about $2100.00? yikes

That is correct, 3D version has HD7970M. 2D version has GTX675M.

That is due to technical limitations. Optimus + 3D = nogo, since the intel GPU doesn't work with 120Hz screens needed for 3D. So thus 3D model = AMD = HD7970.

Yeah, it's the panel that adds extra cost. The price for HD7970M is similar to GTX675 (someone even said slightly lower than GTX675).

    Never considered 3d screen myself.

Kammander- Well if you figure it costs to upgrade your LCD panel on a custom laptop build (to 3D, maybe $200+) + the $80 pair of Samsung Active Shutter 3D glasses that come with the unit, your proposed price difference does add up. Samsung makes the best 120hz 3D Active Shutter LCD panels on the market at the moment. You will get TRUE 1080p per eye in 3D = True 1080P 3D High def.

I am not saying that about Samsung because I work with them... I work with LG, Panasonic, Sony and various other 3D panel / TV manufactures as well. Like I mentioned previously, the 3D on this notebook is phenomenal. If your into 3D of course :)

I dont want a 3D laptop, lol. I have a 52in 3D Samsung TV. I used the 3D feature maybe 5 times over the period of 1 year. I just think Samsung will only have the 7970M option with 3D. Like its stated on the Canada/UK Samsung website.

If I want to 3D, it has to be a BIG~ screen. Not a 17in screen. Also it gives me a headache after I game more than 30mins in 3D.

But yes, I'm a big Samsung fan

Kammander - I hear ya... I was mainly calling out the justification of price for the HD7970 with the 3D screen.

3D may be useless to some but it pays my bills and I enjoy my Convertible M6 it bought me :)

My NP700G7C with GTX675M shows an option for 120 Hz screen refresh rate, as does my game settings. The nVidia Contol Panel also has 3D settings. Does that mean I have a 3D capable screen but the GTX675M cannot take advantage, despite the control panel showing 3D settings?

The 3d setting in the nvidia control panel is for either nvidia 3d vision which you buy separate or you can use 3d red and blue glasses.

Hello MZbiologist, it means you can connect it to an external 3D TV, 3D monitor or 3D projector via HDMI. The external 3D TV, monitor or projector needs 120hz as a refresh rate to properly view 3D.

This is from the GTX675M page on Nvidias web site:

NVIDIA 3DTV Play and HDMI Support2
Support for HDMI output enables sending both high-definition video and audio signals to an HDTV via a single cable. Connect your laptop to any 3D enabled TV with NVIDIA® 3D TV Play™ and stream all your 3D content onto the big screen, including Blu-Ray, 3D photos, even your games!

Aha, thank you. I should have figured that one out. Seeing as I have a Samsung 60 inch 3D TV, I may just have to try playing some games on it.

Edit: So it seems I can indeed use the GTX675M to play Skyrim in 3D on my 3D TV. Yup,my wife is going to hate me in the near future.

So you don’t go crazy trying to get it to work. You should check to make sure your Samsung TV is listed under the "approved" devices that (cough cough pay a royalty to Nvidia). Here is the link: 3DTV System Requirements

Go to supported 3D TV's tab > Samsung > look for your 3DTV model number

Same thoughts about 3D, but 120Hz refresh rate is much better comparing to 60Hz which comes with non-3D screens, so I would like to have a 3D laptop though. And it looks like Samsung is the only one who makes 3D laptops with AMD gpu installed. There are NO Clevo's or Alienware's with 120Hz panel which is working with AMD gpu. Hit me if I'm wrong, please. :)

I suppose you mean the power brick. While yes, it's is a brick, it does have rubber feet to keep it from sliding on a surface. Big, but not mega.

The Samsung NP700G7C power brick is by far the largest i have had for any laptop. Its nearly twice the size of my Sony Vaio power brick. It is quite literally a brick size and weight. I do not have something to measure with atm, eyeballing it, the brick is roughly....lets see, need to think in cms for this crowd most likely...8cm(w) x 21cm(h) x 3cm (d). Perhaps 1.5 kg. Bottom line: bigger than one would expect or desire for good mobility. Lugging around ~5kg of laptop/accessories does not bother me though. I bring my laptops back and forth to work with me everyday. I do not carry anything else though.

Thanks. So pretty typical for a ~200W-class notebook. I wondered with the effort Samsung put into e.g. the NP900X3B if they'd managed to make it any more compact.

The PSU for the NP900X3B is a disappointment as well. I've bought a 3rd party one that is 2/3rd of the weight. That said, although there has been some effort towards shinking the <100W PSUs the bigger ones still live up to their name of "brick". Heat dissipation may be one design issue which would control the size (fan assisted cooling might help) but there's no good reason for the weight. That said, my first external CD-ROM drive (bought in '94) had a PSU that weighed 2kg. That eas a real brick with a transformer from the days before switch mode power supplies became standard.

I have a question for you guys who got the NP700G7C already.

I'm looking for a high end 17" laptop. Either the NP700G7C or the NP700Z7C will work for me. While I'd prefer the more powerful rather than the slimer and lighter, screen reflections is no go for me.

Looks like the NP700G7C has a glossy, while the NP700Z7C has a matte screen, but this hasn't been covered much and there are some conflicting reports.

Could you please share your thoughts, is the NP700G7C display as reflective as the average glossy laptop screen?

The Np700G7C has the best screen. Ever. While it is glossy, reflections aren't noticeable at all for me. VERY bright screen and very nice.
