Indeed I can pick 120Hz. Game settings offer it as an option too. It was default set to 60Hz.

That I can select it as my laptop monitor RR is what confused me earlier. I was told the 120Hz refresh rate was there for output monitor refresh, but that does not appear to be the case. When I select 120Hz, it sets the screen brightness at max as one would expect.

The control panel shows I have the Samsung 173HT02-C01 monitor.

Its not listed as a 3D monitor, but I have to wonder why it has the high refresh rate. If you find out more, do tell!

I believe that is indeed a 120HZ screen capable of 3D but samsung let that option out and opted for optimus so if you pick 120HZ it may disable optimus but there is no 3D support any way

Yeah, I saw that review this morning.

Since the GT675 is capable of outputting a 3D signal, and the monitor is 120Hz, might it be possible to find software in the future that would enable 3D output on the laptop?

Is it fairly easy to instal SATA III SSD card into one of those Samsung compartment? I was going to sell one of the 750 HD and add a SSD into the primary.

it should be real easy to replace the drive with an SSD I may put one of my SSD's for sale tomorrow Samsung 512GB PM830 DELL OEM lemme know if you interested :)

This lappy is too "gamer" and not very original. The chassis is similar to a Clevo 17.3 and with the yellow and red it looks like an alienware notebook, especially with the keyboard. The dial is a breath of fresh air though.

Okay my roommate just got his Samsung NP700G7C and I have my ASUS G75.

I have to say, I'm super impressed with the Samsung's display. It's so... beautiful.

The whole "game mode" with Samsung is super cool. Having a live wallpaper moving etc. Amazing.

One think I dont like as of yet is the keyboard. I been using this Samsung for an hour now and I gotten too used to the Asus keyboard.

This Samsung metal plating is pretty awesome. Let me update and run some games now.

    UPDATE:

The metal plating where you palms rest seems to get little warm (esp the left side), is that normal? It's kinda annoying

I only booted this laptop 4 times now. When I switch from balance mode to gamer mode, it's not instant. Takes about 2-5secs, is that normal?

It takes roughly 1-2 seconds for the switch to game mode. Really not a big deal!

My palm rest does not get warm at all on top. I do tend to play with my laptop actually resting on my lap with the vents partly blocked. Under those conditions, the left side fan blows warm and the underside of the front left warms a wee bit, but not too much. If I make sure not to block any of the left vent, the comp stays cool all over. Note that I'm referring to computer time spent playing either Civ V or WOW for 2-3 hours.

Kammander - Cool you get to "try it out" before buying (or waiting) one for yourself. Let me know if putting it in "game mode" hinders your game play. I read some reviews that said it actually dropped performance (the live wallpaper, etc)

Ok this laptop is exciting me, the screen is glossy right? Could anyone do some key rollover tests on theres and post them here? I will start plugging through the thread.

I use a ESDF config in all games and want to make sure that will work. It would be useful to get all they typical KRO tests in here and ammend them to the OP. I tried one cheap samsung at best buy and it was horrible but that should not be the case with an upper end model.

Mike, my roommate got it for himself. I'm just messing with his laptop lol. I'm still going to wait for the 7970M.

Mine gets little warm on the palm area still. Let me use this for couple hours and see. I hope he didnt get a defect one.

Balance to Game mode literally takes 5-10secs for him. Finished all updates. Odd. It is super cool though. =) I'm jealous

One does not need to dial up one mode at a time. You can turn from Green to Game, skipping Library and Balanced mode. It seems to take ~2 sec to switch modes, be it Green to Game or Balanced to Game.

That’s what I meant by you "trying it out" :) Use your roommate as the Guinea Pig. Can you run BF3 on max settings and let me know what FPS you get?

I still may buy one for the wife, she can settle for the 675M as she does not game. I would use it while I wait for my P170EM Clevo with a HD7970M to come in stock.

ABT has it for $70 cheaper ($1,829 in stock) with free shipping and no tax for CA: NP700G7C-S01US - Samsung Series 7 Gamer Black Laptop Computer at Abt

He got this for $1809 with Military discount. No tax, free shipping

PS: By the way, I'm loving the sound quality on this beast. Very good quality.

    High: 42-55 Ave : 47

Ultra is actually playable. Its a GTX 675M is a nice card. But I want 7970M if I'm paying for something thats $2000.

This notebook looks great! Especially if I want things like blu-ray drive, the price of NP700G7C is very attractive. But I have a question about the future upgrade, can you change the parts of this notebook like CPU/gpu, network card easily? (I won't expect it will be as easy as Sager, but if it is not difficult, I think I will definitely buy it)

    Hi

Getting a little confused with the following.

Nvidia GTX 675m is definately a 3D compatible card according to Nvidia website (optimus or not).

The NP700G7c does have a 120mhz screen, it is set to 60mhz as default.

In the UK on sites such as Samsungalptops and laptopmania it is even sold with the Samsung 3D glasses.

On the Samsung Website under the spec for the G7c it says that it is 2D only and the M7970 will be 3D.

    What gives??

    Regards
    Glen

[IMG]Under the easy setting menu, do y'all have silent mode off or on. If you have it on, is it on Auto?

EDIT:HOLY CRAP!!!! There is an option to set the screen to 120Hertz!!!!

Note that setting the refresh to 120Hz limits brightness adjustments between modes.

I did not have an issue with the screen going black in gaming mode.

The brightness dimming function keys do not alter actual brightness levels at 120Hz. Instead, brightness is either maxed, or upon Fn+F2 to lower brightness, screen goes black at 5/8 brightness bars.

I assume this is some quirk related to there being a minimum brightness for 3D output, despite the comp not actually being 3D?

Just ordered this on AMAZON.COM, and mine will be here on Thursday, May 10. I'm so pumped. At this point, I don't care if the screen on the unit itself is 3D (though it would be awesome if it is). But I'm really hoping that this beast will be able to output 3D via HDMI to my LG 3D TV. Any word on whether this is capable or not?

    Hi guys.

Questions for those who are waiting for the 7970m.

1.) Are any of you from Canada? Because I talked to a rep from Ncix.com and he said that the 7970m is not slated to be available here and the only model that they are going to sell for this quarter is the one with gtx675.

I'm confused because per Samsung Canada's site they are advertising the 7970m. I talked to a Samsung rep and he didn't offer much help as he said that I need to talk to a retailer to know the availability of the unit. He can't even tell me when, specifically, the 7970m will be available or if it is going to be available at all. That's why I asked Ncix.

2.) Are you guys sure that it's going to be released soon? If so, where are you planning to buy it?

3.) Is it really worth the wait? or should I settle for the gtx675?

    Appreciate the feedback.

I have a few 3D monitors at home, and what you describe here is normal behavior once they are set on 3D mode, the brightness is increased to compensate for the fact that each eye only gets half the brightness due to the nature of active shutter glasses.

So, what I'm trying to imply here is this:

This laptop may probably have a fully functional 3D panel, even if it's not the 7970 model... I read the online manual for this laptop, and it requires your glasses to link to it via Bluetooth to be able to use the 3D function.

The point I'm trying to get to is, that if we purchase a standalone Nvidia 3D Vision kit with the IR emitter and glasses we might be able to use this laptop for 3D gaming and movies, as the GTX675 is a fully 3d Vision capable card.

Now, my order for this laptop hasn't shipped from Amazon yet, and I have a few 3D Vission glasses at home but no IR emitter, can any of the current owners of this laptop try and test my theory?

    1. I also talked with Samsung reps from US and they have 0% information on the 7970 card. They did say, if Canada/UK are going to have them, US and definitely have them as well. So what I'm thinking is they're just getting ready + short on supply. All we can do is just wait for some news.

2.Due to a high demand and low supply of 7970M there will be a delay. My guess is about a month or two. So it might be possible it will release next qrt.

    3. If you can wait, wait it out. 7970M performs 50% better compared to GTX 675M. If you're not a hardcore gamer, it really shouldn't matter. I want the most out of my money so I'm going to wait for the 7970M + I'm not in a rush. I'm sure the 7970M 3D model will be more expensive, I'm guessing $100-200 more? It only makes sense since it's a better card and 3D ready mode. Who knows what the price might be.
All I can tell you is that my roommate who just bought Samsung with 675M is extremely happy.

I'm pretty sure you can assume this is correct. Look at how much 3d based models are more than the non 3d version. Its anywhere from a $400-$600 mark up.

I believe you are correct I just got mine form michellelane71 and is a beautiful machine the screen is the best part

when I set 120HZ the screen go to the max brightness note: you cant switch to 120HZ while on battery mode

the GTX675M is 3D capable but that doesn't mean they cant lock 3D from within the vbios I have 3D glasses but sadly I don't have an emitter and I don't really care about 3D to be honest

maybe somebody else can try if they have a 3D kit

Is it possible to buy this computer with an SSD?
Buying a computer this expensive with ancient harddrives isn't very nice, and the same goes for switching hard drive yourself and losing the warranty.
    Any way around this?

    1. If you're going to get a laptop with AMD 7970M card. Is there a big difference between the 1600x900 vs 1920x1080? 1600 is standard with 1920 option for $150.
    2. Single AMD 7970M better or Dual GTX 675Ms? my guess is the dual?

    Thanks guys in advance. =)

it has the 7970m listed higher than dual gtx 675's. has no ratings for it though.

I would never get a laptop that's not 1080 if its for gaming.

Does anyone play DC Universe Online on this machine? I've had this laptop close to six months. Been running that game at maxed out settings without any problems but since a month or so ago, the frame rate of the game suddenly stopped being smooth.

I thought it was a driver issue because I am running Windows 8 consumer preview but I've already updated my drivers for that and still I'm getting choppy gameplay. Any advice from the tech gurus here?

EDIT: Hmm...I actually have the 700G7A model with the 6970M instead of this one.

I'm calling BS on that. Yes, the 7970m might be better than one 675, but not 2.
