Thanks, that was really useful! It doesn't seem to overheat which is great news.
I've got a weird question about the monitor... Is it easy on the eyes (in the sense, do your eyes get tired after a while compared to other laptop monitors). I find that most glare monitors really tire my eyes out, so I hope this Samsung can save me...
-
Without actually seeing the laptop in person...I'm almost convinced I'll buy this laptop...but I really need to see the screen in person lol.
I just picked up a m11x r3 (i5) at the Dell outlet for $614. I couldn't wait for a release date and I just now read your post lol. Hopefully they release it in less than 21 days so I can make a return
-
Protip: Don't quote gigantic collections of pics. It makes scrolling annoying and widens the forum thread irregularly.
Those pics look promising. While I'm increasingly finding that I really don't mind glossy screens, I'm always open-minded to matte. As long as the display's pretty damn good and other factors like as form factor and build quality up to snuff, I can see myself eyeing this notebook come time to upgrade in 1.5 years. -
Thanks and +rep!
-
aha.cool. But chipset supportst sata 3 than?
does this laptop also support 3d? -
dv6t Quad Edition had SATA 3 so I'm sad this has SATA 2, because I bought a Crucial M4 recently and it feels like part of it is a waste now
-
Danke schon Ganxxta! Accurate work. Enjoy the piece. In case you would like to share more info about subwoofer, easy way to find out is play some music and put your ear close to the bottom of the laptop where micro-holes are, if subwoofer is there, it should be audible. But i doubt you would like the sound so much if it would'nt be there. The size and sound is major advantage to it's competitor Sony SE. Thanks again.
-
Is it just me or are those CPU temps a bit on the higher side? Or was he putting the laptop under a little load? With CPU temps like that, I would figure the fan would be easily audible? Or maybe its just my laptop :/
-
The U400 looks like a fantastic machine / alternative to the series 7. I think it's design looks a little more appealing too.
-
According to the Info tools I ran its Dual Channel.
Well I bought it here: Studentenrabatt Notebooks Rabatt Studenten Samsung Studentbook
Its a shop for students only, so I doubt they would deliver it somewhere else than Germany.
But if you don't mind the German Keyboard and want it right now, check some of these shops: Samsung 700Z5A, Core i7-2675QM, 8192MB, 750GB (NP-700Z5A-S03DE) | Geizhals.at EU
Btw. Finland is in German Finnland
To early to tell, will check it later
For me its better for my eyes, because it hasn't got the reflections of a glare screen, you don't need to reposition yourself or the laptop every time the sun comes out.
Don't think that the Chipset supports SATA3.
Also no 3D support.
There a some holes on the bottom, I will try to check it out when I come home from work.
Yes the max temps were under heavy load, if you like to try it out with your laptop to compare: download Unigine Heaven Benchmark and run it 3-5 times and have HWInfo sensors on in the background.
I think for a quadcore CPU and a pretty powerful GPU these temps are not so bad, seen worse.
And yes on heavy load you can hear the fan. -
Thanks, that explains it.
-
Anyone know if this is coming to Canada anytime soon?
-
Actually surprised that the laptop is sata II and not sata III, doesn't it use intel hm65 chipset which supports sata III?
-
Yes it does, according to the spec sheets, both drives (hdd + ssd) support only SATA2, I could find out whether the build in chipset is capable of SATA3, but the drives are not.
-
Please check because I have a sata III ssd I'd like to use in any future laptop I plan to own, and this sammy is currently my first choice.
-
Ah I've overseen this sorry:
SATA Port 1 6 Gb/s: Supported
SATA Port 0 6 Gb/s: Supported
I think I posted that yesterday, so it supports SATA3.

So i assume that sata port 1 is currently occupied by the hitachi 750gb hard drive? I really want to buy this laptop now but with i5+amd radeon 6750 for better battery life.
PS thanks for answering questions -
Do we know if the screen on the 6750 version is better than the best buy version yet?
-
One port is definitely taken by the HDD, don't know how the SSD is attached, I believe with mSATA.
Nope, we don't know
.
My Screen is:
Monitor Name: Samsung LTN156KT-068
Monitor Name (Manuf): SAMSUNG LTN156KT068
Monitor Hardware ID: Monitor\SEC314B
Someone posted that specs for BB model:
Monitor Name: Samsung LTN184KT01F01
Monitor Name (Manuf): SAMSUNG LTN156KT068
Monitor Hardware ID: Monitor\SEC314B
The Hardware ID (SEC314B) seems to be meaningless, according to google it can be a 18" screen, a glossy screen and a 1680x945 screen...
LTN184KT01F01 is according to google a 46,7 cm (18-4"), WXGA HD+, 1600x900, Backlight: 1 CCFL, GLARE TYPE screen...
So no idea^^ -
I am also looking at the U400, as well as the Sony SE1 as alternatives to the SS7. I will make a purchase around Thanksgiving.
One thing to consider SS7 to the others is longer battery life. -
I like the U400's design (although it's even more of a blatant MBP ripoff than the Series 7), but spec-wise it's inferior even to the 13"/14" Series 7. (Even worse video card, lower display resolution, etc.) I think the 13"/14" is about the same thickness/weight.
-
Thats a shame... That is the only thing holding me back on this machine, and I am just about to pull the trigger on the entry level 15" macbook pro since they gave it the good gpu... :\
-
Mid November to End of November.
-
so there is no problem if I buy this laptop in Germany, and I am from Slovenia?
I will probably have to format disk and install win 7 with Slovenian language and that's it?
what about other samsung tools, and other softwares?
what about keys?
any other problems more serious? -
Looking at the HWInfo that Ganxxta posted the Express Cache is listed as a SanDisk SSD P4. Searching around I found
http://www.sandisk.com/media/876078/SanDisk_SSD_P4_brochure.pdf
Reading that it says the 8 gig version comes in both BGA and mSATA versions. How is the expressCache connected on the Series 7? BGA probably means its on the motherboard itself, but if uses mSATA it might be possible to swap it out with a larger mSATA SSD drive. Would be nice to have both a 750Gb HD and a 120 gig ssd boot drive. Anyone take a look too know if this is doable? -
Well you have to consider warranty, keys etc.
German keyboard has äöüß as extra keys, don't know if you need them or if you need other keys.
Samsung software is supposed to be multilanguage if you download it from Samsung.com.
Sorry I can't find any info about BGA or mSATA
, its only mentioned that its connected with 3Gb/s
-
Samsung deserves to die for placing an 6750M with DDR3 in this notebook
.
-
Um, what? It clearly says DDR5.
-
Man, what are you saying?!? Look at the CPU-Z screenshot, it clearly say GDDR5!!
DDR3 is for the integrated Intel, because it works with the system memory!
-
Updating the express cache would be very interessting. But I think the express cache it is at the moment is also verx good.
Refering to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oW7zGFDVa0&feature=relmfu -
The on screen colours look awful in pictures!
The contrast seems really. really bad!!!
Only high brightness is not enough!
Samsung makes always the same mistakes in her own books...
-
Judging by pictures alone the screen looks fine to me
You guys are really nitpick about a screen.
-
You guys are damn right. I must be blind or something
.
Now the only thing I hope is that the screen is better than the people see
.
-
Oh, that bloody screen again. I'd say that Ganxxta is right, you have to check the screen for yourself and see how it suits you.
From his videos, if they are 100% accurate - I mean it's only a mobile phone, even if it's a galactic one ( Second 2 none) and not a pro camera - the colors look vivid and exciting but seem to miss proper contrast and depth, maybe that's why they tend to blind the viewer.
I mean, 300 cd/m2 is not a swollen figure. By the way, I checked the figures from my laptop from notebookcheck and its screen has an average brightness of 338 cd/m2 and it doesn't fatigue the eyes, even if it's a glossy one. But guess what... the contrast ratio is 643:1. Far from being the best screen ever, it's still very bright while it doesn't look like the Christmas tree. Might have something to do with its very good contrast and gamut. I bet the contrast of this Chronos is below 200:1 as well, which is only a mediocre ratio.
All in all, I can only hope that Samsung's gonna offer us a better screen as an option. A full hd should be the obvious choice even if not necessarily required. Or else they'll loose lots of customers having seen this machine as a premium or at least a near premium one, which would be a great pity as the notebook is very attractive otherwise.
Come on guys, give us the Galaxy S2 of the notebook marketplace!!! -
Notebookcheck.com is current testing the 15.6" model released in Germany, according to their forums. Expect a confirmation of the ~130:1 contrast in a couple of days...
Meanwhile, I already headed back to Sony. Way to disappoint, Samsung. -
Thanks ... that was helpful ..
-
That is impressive. I didn't think 8gigs would be enough. I wonder what will happen when one puts programs on the machine --- is the 8gigs still enough --- I don't know enough about how this works. I wonder how the Acer with 20gig SSD cache is testing?
Hate to say --- if one doesn't need a GPU the Series 9 seems most enticing for a number of reasons (to me, anyway). Of course, the drive space is much less --- that's a negative for the 9. -
Yeah man, great way to disappoint.
Anyway, we'll find it soon, Notebookcheck Forum says this:
Wir haben das Gerät jetzt da, der Test dürfte so in einer Woche kommen.
Samsung 700Z5A (NP-700Z5A-S01DE) Eierlegende Wollmilchsau?
I don't speak German, but Google Translate has given something like "We already have the device for testing and are gonna say something in a week.''
Hope this test will remove all vague terminology. -
Here is another review, this time of the 14" Model:
Google Translate -
Nobody who have the high end model can make a contrast test for the screen?
It will be very kind^^ -
Guys I suggest you go to the Chronos fanpage in facebook and ask them if the laptop would be available near you. I got a reply from them just a few hours from asking them. I'll wait till the laptop comes out here and see it for myself before making a final verdict on it.
-
Hmm... isn't it the last week of October yet? Haha. Or are they considering Halloween (Monday)?
-
Samsung representatives already confirmed for many countries in Europe the release date is early November not October.
-
not just Europe, Canada is mid-november...
-
Is this the fan page you are talking about?: Samsung Notebook | Facebook

Does anyone know the difference between the different model numbers?
I have a shop near me with the Series 7 available to order from their warehouse. They don't have spec sheets but they have model numbers.
They've got the NP700Z5A A01DX (Which is only just mentioned on Samsung's website) for €1029 and the NP700Z5A S01UK which is for sale for €1,149.
Anyone have any ideas? -
The NP700Z5A S01 is the best model available with 8Gb of RAM, the UK in the end I suppose it has to do with the keyboard type.
As for the NP700Z5A A01DX I have no idea, due to the price difference it might be the 6Gb RAM model. -
Actually there is a S01 and S02 models which are difference of ram. S01 got 8gb and S02 got 6gb. As for A01DX that seems to be a new model that is different. It could be that it does not have 8gb Express cache. But we wouldnt know until someone finds the details.
-
Hey guys,
made a new shot in comparison to my 24" LED TFT, also matte:
-
Hey Ganxxta, have you figured out if your model has the sub-woofer? Thanks.
