Looks like there is maybe this yellow cable from the HDD between the LED:

Is there also a Shell Case Cover for Samsung chronos 15,6?
Like for apple? -
I don't really know why people are buying a brushed aluminium laptop to encase it in plastic... I'd be better off just buying a plastic laptop right away and same myself the thickness.
You should dig things like macbook leather sleeves or so... but most of them block the hinge vents at the rear, so the hot air can only go upwards to the screen and keyboard. -
maybe you have a good point, but I always damage all my gadged, I am moving so fast, not thinking to do careful with stuff.
Are you sure that even if it is aluminium, there can not be damaged when travelling laptop everyday around in the school?
I just want to buy sleeve to be 100% sure -
I wouldn't go without a sleeve for too long. You really do need one. I think derpderp's point was that you don't need a shell case or anything of the sort. The Caselogic sleeve is actually the one I'm planning on getting, but I am worried it'll be too big.
-
i did a fresh install last night but need help.
when i run the easy setting after the installation.
the laptop gets frozen. keyboard, mouse doesn't work.
so i have hard reset.
any thoughts? -
You dont need a case that straps on the laptop i've seen some and its frankly ugly and hinders the vent system.
You only need a sleeve like this to put in your packpack so it never gets scratched while being transported.
You're not going to throw your laptop around in class right ? It'll just be sitting there quietly.
A sleeve like this is far enough. But it wouldn't protect it if you drop it out of the sleeve. I have a similar sleeve myself, it just remains in my backpack or any other bag to be a laptop sheat so that no dust or anything like a lost pen comes scratching it.

So I finally went to Best Buy to see the system myself. Solid machine besides the screen which looked washed out. Maybe if we whine loud enough they will put in a better quality screen for their next revision, if we get one.

How to charge Lit-ion battery on Samsung chronos?
If I am all day on computer from 8am to 23pm. Is it better to have all the time adapter plugged in on electricity?
or is better to put cable out, then wait that battery almost full discharge than plug adapter in again (cca 3 times in a day)??
Some people say this some people say that... Anyone that is absolutely sure what is better? -
In one of the marketing videos (the tigerdirect one I think) the Samsung rep said that there was a feature included in the laptop design that keeps the battery from being damaged when you leave it plugged in all the time. So I would just keep it plugged in.
-
haha you just gave me an idea... im going to get a big manilla envelope and keep it in there
-
Follow these rules of thumb:
- The lesser the charge cicles are, the better is for the battery
- The shallow the charge cicles are, the better is for the battery
- The coolest you keep the battery, the better it is
Don't worry for keeping plugged in, every Li-ion/Li-poly battery pack has a charge circuit built in that monitors the current flow, the charging and wear levels and shuts off the charge current when the pack is fully charged, so no worries about that...
By the way, it's advisable, for the laptop that permits that, to remove the battery pack when fully charged and you're using the laptop plugged in, but not for an overcharge hazard, but to keep the battery as coolest as possibile, keeping away from heat generated inside the laptop. If you notice, the battery pack has been putted under the palmrest, away from the hot air flow generated by the fans... -
Right now I have two problems with NP700Z5AS04
For me Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter is not working on Windows 7 whereas 802.11g is working fine.
Secondly, when I connect my laptop with an external monitor using HDMI cable, the picture extends outside of the screen of the monitor. Any help will be appreciated. Can someone confirm these problems?

id very much like to slightly overclock/undervolt the videocard
please when you do do it let me know how it goes
im going to play skyrim on this laptop
i checked the requirements and it says that this videocard should run equal or even a bit better than the console versions
so i figure i might as well get it for pc -
According to the MBP threads online it's pretty easy--all you need, apparently, is the ATI Tray Tools utility and to input the proper voltage and speed. I think their consensus was 750/[email protected] was the best setting to overclock to, and that can even run lower than standard system temp. (And you can set it up to only overclock when the laptop is plugged in or for certain apps.)
-
How do you tell what the version of the laptop is (best buy version, chronus, etc.)?
-
I just got my S7!! So far I just love the look and feel of the laptop. It definitely feels like a premium laptop. I came from an Alienware m11x, and this thing is pretty big but overall, it just feels really well-built.
In regards to the screen, I'm noticing washed out colors, but I don't think it'll actually strain my eyes as everything just looks really sharp and crisp. If I'm doing any color-sensitive work, I'll be connecting this to an external monitor.
I've uninstalled all the bloatware that I don't need. I'll be installing some games next to see how they run. For those who already have it, what drivers should I be installing? -
Good to know that you are enjoying it, and I cannot wait to hear what you say about the games. I am excited for Christmas so I can get my grubby paws on mine. Good to know you think it is well built.
-
Yeah I say that earlier but some people don't feel comfortable overclocking. With those oc it improves FPS a lot.
-
ahhh its sitting at ups because they dont deliver sunday!
can't wait. -
I went to Best Buy today just to get an idea of what this laptop will look like/feel like etc.
I have to say I was initially worried about the screen quality, considering everyone here was complaining about it, but when I got to Best Buy and saw it in person, it was fine. I currently have a 1680x1050 screen resolution on my 15.6" laptop and I didn't think the 1600x900 on the Samsung was bad at all. Viewing angles were okay and brightness seemed great.
Build quality was really good. I loved the keyboard, lid, etc. I also thought the weight was great for this laptop. A lot of people were saying that it is too heavy but it feels sturdier and lighter than my current Sager notebook.
I'm going to wait a bit and see if the price drops on the non-neutered (non-Best Buy) version and I'll pull the trigger. Great looking and feeling laptop with solid specs. -
If I have understood correctly the discussions this far, there are only two "features" that are giving me some pause on NP700Z5A-S03US....
1. The WiFi radio seems to support only 2.4 Ghz on the N protocol? Why on Earth? Even my ancient LeNovo X61 can receive a 5 Ghz signal. In my travels I encounter a lot of networks that have only a 5Ghz signal available.
2. If the spacebar can only be activated by pressing it close to the middle, it means that the spacebar has not been implemented with a high quality scissoring mechanism, but probably only with a single consumer-grade dome, or that the scissor is far too short..... That is a totally incomprehensible minuscule cost saving.
If Samsung has classified S03US to be a "Business Computer", these 2 cost saving measures are sheer cost-accounting silliness.
Can someone confirm that these 2 limitations are true for S03US? -
I have a question.
I am using this laptop in Linux, and for the most part it works great, except the touchpad is being a huge pain in the rear end.
Can someone who is running Windows please try and verify what the model of the touchpad is? Linux is seeing it as "Elantech ETF1059 Click-Pad" however I am beginning to suspect that it is incorrect, due to it not working correctly at all when I configure it the way it should be.
I'm not sure if there are ways inside Windows to do so, but I'd greatly appreciate the help. Thanks!
And @Aloysiusq, I just tried pressing the spacebar at a variety of locations and it seems to work equally well at any spot. Sorry if you're having problems with yours... I can't confirm the wireless N radio, as my router can only do wireless G -
Just got my 700Z5A-S04 from J&R today.
The space bar issue is there but for mine it doesn't seem to be affected badly.
For my keyboard it clearly registers a tap on both ends of the space bar.
Its only when your finger is right on the edge nearly hanging off does it not register.
I have yet to tap the spacebar and not get a space without deliberately trying too -
Can some of you who have recieved your laptops comment on the hinge. Is it solid? The one at Best Buy seemed alright, but not as crisp as the MBP. How does the S04 feel?
-
My space bar function is totally fine. Only the 802.11n is not working with 5 GHz and the output of the laptop on high definition tv or monitor stays out of the screen. Hopefully, Samsung will give an early update to drivers.
NP700Z5AS04 -
Are you sure its i7? all the ones iv seen are i5, can you link me to a spec sheet for the NP700Z4A?
And whats it mean by a 15 inch in a 14? How doe you get a 15 inch screen in a 14 inch body? -
Anyone tried to change the wireless card? Is there a BIOS whitelist?
Is the graphics switching manual or dynamic? And whether there is a BIOS option to switch like those HPs? -
the hinge seems solid and up to spec with the mbp.
you can open the screen without having to hold the base down.
besides the bottom (which im pretty sure is a hard plastic) the rest is aluminum and has a very solid build quality to it.
Theres only a tiny amount of flex just right of the trackpad and the left edge of the numpad but both are unnoticeable unless your looking for it -
do you think they'll patch it with a game update or an ati driver update?
I use a 15" incase mbp neoprene sleeve. the fit is pretty snug, but once it's in there, it feels like a good fit. I can definitely close the zipper all the way without any real extra space. -
Can someone confirm if the US S04 version has WIDI capabilities?
-
Regarding the HDMI output being partly outside the TV screen; I had this too but that was just because my TV was not in its "computer mode". Now everything is working fine with the HDMI.
-
The non bestbuy US S04 has the broadcom chipset which does not have widi in my knowledge. it has bluetooth instead.
the bestbuy has an intel chipset so it has widi but forgoes bluetooth -
At last had a change to play with a Samsung 7 15.6inch and i am not impressed at all. Its opposite to the MBP in several areas like the speakers, display the keyboard. The only two things that are a bit similar are the touchpad and the GPU.
My Macbook Pro is much more expensive but with a real reason such as display among other things. Why did not Samsung just put in a better display and speakers for a bit extra?
The Samsung 7 15.6" is available for $1200
Amazon.com: Samsung NP700Z5A-S04US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver): Computers & Accessories
The Apple MBP 15" is available for $1800
MacBook Pro - Shop Apple Laptop & Notebook Computers - Apple Store (U.S.)
So the real question is $600 extra really worth it all. -
According to someone posting the chip number. Here's what i got
Broadcom
It apparently only has 2.4ghz
If it sucks really badly I would just remove it and install a intel chip...
Plus I don't think they have that whitelist thingy. If i remember correctly usually only HP does. -
well it has less ram and its bigger than the samsung series because the bezel is bigger. and no express cache... not to mention its running macOS
for gaming at least windows is a much better platform
personally i have no idea how anyone uses macOS i cant figure out where settings are and such. im too used to windows to ever switch -
I think I'm going to wait until something a bit better (it other words: Chronos with a good display) comes up. The Sony Vaio SE specs in Europe are underwhelming for the price (~999 , 4 GB, i5, no blu-ray etc) and the loud fan was the last nail to the coffin.
Due to taxation-related causes, I have to make the purchase before the end of the year. So we'll see if anything turns up. Until then, I'll just have to cope with my HP dv2007. -
Then pay the extra 600 quid if you think it is worth it, "simples".
-
Yea 1800$ with the 1440-by-900-pixel LED-backlit glossy...
5400 rpm hard drive...
4gb of ram...
A warranty extension that costs 349$... Samsung J+1 warranty extension to 3 years with on site service costs what ? 120$ or so ?
So basically if you want a chronos equivalent that only has "a superior screen" and still no express cache or usb3.0, you have to add up the options and you get ? 2400$ + 350$ of apple care = 2750$
A chronos with the same specs + express cache but meh screen costs about 1400$ tops
Thats right you can buy TWO top of the line chronos with 3 year warranty for the price of ONE top of the line macbook pro + warranty.
Anyway, you do whatever you want with your money
Imo it is even more stupid to throw your money under the appletree if you are a windows user, or before they even get usb 3.0 support or ivy bridge.
-
I wasn't super impressed with the display when I first got my Series 7, however, I calibrated it and it looks pretty color-correct now. The edges get slightly dim, but I don't notice it most of the time.
-
What settings did you end up with?
N -
Don't know if someone noticed but the canadian reference is out : samsung np700z5a-s03ca. (nov 12)
Samsung Notebook Series 7 CHRONOS - NP700Z5A-S03CA - Performance - mobile computing | SAMSUNG
But still, no release date and reseller confirmed... -
And look like there's only the 15' on the website. Someone know something about that?
-
the US-Version, the CA-Version and the Austrian Version are supposed to have Inte®l Centrino® Advanced-N 6230, 2 x 2 802.11 abg/n (up to 300 Mbps), Widi Support.
So I'm curious why so many people do not have G and N on their Series 7!
Samsung what's going on!?!?! -
Does anyone know where you can pick one of these up? Somewhere realiable and that has them in stock? Also, anyone know more about why they are not in stock anywhere?!
-
Thank you everyone for your encouraging reports on aledged spacebar and 5Ghz lack of support.
It is quite possible that the spacebar issue is a manufacturing defect with some machines, or a limitation of lower end models.
If Chronos already sports a 5Ghz capable WiFi radio, there is a good chance that a software fix may address the problem, hopefully before too long.
And no, I have not purchased a Series 7 machine yet. I will be Still sitting on the proverbial fence for several more weeks. -
I have the JR US version with the Broadcom N card, which doesn't support 5gz nor WIDi
This wouldn't be as big a deal for me as long as I can swap it out for an Intel 6230 or 6300 card. Does anyone know if this is possible? It looks like the Broadcom card uses 1 antenna, the 6230 uses 2 and the 6300 uses 3.
-
5400 vs 7200 does not matter much i recently got upgraded from a 5400rpm to a 7200rpm and all that i can notice are more vibrations.
Yes 4GB's is less than 6GB's but then again 2GB's RAM is hardly expensive right now.
USB3.0 gets replaced with Thunderbolt, a portable HDD based on this tech would be much faster than a USB3.0 equal, besides future laptops will carry thunderbolt implementations.
What i mean to say is that this situation is like the one between MSI gaming laptops and Alienware gaming laptops, people know that MSI offers similar hardware at a lower price but to offer than lower price certain angles are cut and compromises are made.
Truth is Macbook Pro is far from a value for money laptop and i only bought it over M14x because MBP had similar gaming abilities and was priced just above M14x "Alienware is very expensive in India" and i could take it to the office.
I am just sad that Samsung did not take on the full persona of the MBP, its quite obvious that inspiration for the 7 series was from MBP but then why cut corners? They could have included a good screen, they could have had a similar screen to that on the 9 series "Loved the screen" but no. The speakers are so bad that a HP DM1 "11.6inch laptop" sounds better, i think the size got in the way of this. I liked the top lid if a similar material was used for the bottom would it have been a bad thing?
If they had replicated MBP with enhancements "6770m instead of 6750m" it would have been a much more rounded build but to save money they choose a different route. -
I just happen to have a Intel Wifi 6300 Ultimate N lying around. I'm thinking about replacing this with the one in my SS7. Has anyone tried opening up the SS7?
-
Please let us know if this card is compatible. I may return this if this isn't widi compatible. Thanks.
