It looks like there are only 2 antenas! So you can put in a N 6230, but not a N 6300 or rather you can put it in, but you can only use 2 antenas and not 3. So there is no need for 6300, I would put in a 6230.

    Just as a hint!

    Thunderbolt will overwhelm USB3.0?!?

The words "Please if you'd like to buy a MacBook PRO then go that route and don't get in there to flame" are so difficult to understand sometimes...
People who looks at the Chronos simply don't want the Macbook, maybe for the price tag, maybe for the limitations and choices made by Apple, maybe simply because they'd like to use Windows or Linux, and dislikes MacOS.
    Question closed. :mad2:

Switching to a more In Topic part: does someone know the dimensions and weight of the whole box? Just to estimate the Freight Forwarder cost to ship eventually in UE... Thanks.

If you mean speed then yes Thunderbolt is a lot faster than USB3.0

LaCie Little Big Disk SSD Review - External Hard Drives - CNET Reviews

LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt SSD review -- Engadget

As for the rest of your post read my full post and not just the points. The MBP deserves a fully copy not just bits. MSI did this with their X netbooks and Samsung did it with 7 series.

Till now only ASUS got it close their ultrabooks seems very good in design.

I've just sat and read, over the last 2 days, all 200+ pages of this thread. It's very informative, but also there's some issues that I'd like to ask about and hopefully clear up.

So you know where I'm coming from, I've had a Toshiba Tecra A9 for many years which overall I've been thrilled with. This week, it died, so now I need a new laptop. I have no idea how the screen compares to the one on the Samsung S7, but I've done various colour work on it (semi-pro standard - things have been published in print). Colour isn't critical for me, and the colour on the Tecra was "miles out" until I got the Spyder2 on it, then it was good enough for my work to match the printed version "pretty closely". I'd like the same from whatever laptop I buy.

Now let me get some of the other things out of the way...

I don't want a Mac. The Samsung will cost me just under £1000, the Mac will cost me over £15'000. - Let me be clear, I think Macs are great machines. The laptops in particular are great, and the iPad is a wonderful gadget. However everyone who enters into the PC/Mac debate seems to completely forget one basic fact - unless you're a software pirate, all the software you bought will be for one OS or the other, and the likes of Microsoft and Adobe wont just give you a swap over to the other OS for free. I have a lot of software, and it's all Windows based. Some of it is expensive (Adobe Creative Suite 4, Cinema 4D for example). If I switch to Mac, I have to buy it all again, So the Mac is simply not an option as I can't afford the switch.

Yes, I am aware you can buy a MBP and install Windows on it... but to me there's no point in paying the extra for a Mac to spend all day pretending not to be one, and AppleCare do not support anything Windows - once your Mac is booted into Windows, that's where they sensibly draw the line, and a good chunk of the cost of a Mac is undoubtedly to cover the post-sales support that you may, or may not, make use of.

The screen - There's clearly split opinion on the screen. I look at ALL the laptops and the screens look "wrong" to me, even the very high-end Sony ones (though obviously some look worse than others). The only time they look right is after proper calibration with something like a Spyder2. After doing this to my Tecra A9, the screen was much better, and good enough for my needs. Has anyone calibrated the screen on the Chronos using a calibration device? How well did it work?

Why do you want to disable the SSD? Does it stop you dual-booting? If you want to setup multiple partitions to keep work seperate from play (as I do) wouldn't it make more sense to use a tool like Partition Magic to resize the partitions?

Can I update to Win7 Ultimate and use BitLocker, or will the ExpressCache stop me?

Is the battery replacable? I got through 3 batteries on my Tecra before the screen eventually died and the mainboard developed a fault. To me, having a non-replacable battery is limits the life of the laptop.

I see one slot, but where's the second memory "slot" that's supposedly soldered? May seem an odd question, but I had an HP that was supposed to have one replacable and one soldered slot... they were both slots, but one was hidden and required removal of other parts to get to it, I wonder if the S7 is the same?

What is the display adapter? Is it actually true DisplayPort to VGA, or is this a proprietary socket that is non-standard? DisplayPort usually also allows audio etc. output - is that available too?

Finally, any sensible alternatives around the same price with a non-glossy screen? I genuinely don't want a mirror for a screen - I already have a perfectly good mirror.

There is already installed also Samsung recovery solution 5.

    questions:

    - 1: Is all the storage of backup (also the first just with system) on the secundary d partition?
1a) I choose 100GB for C:, but I had just 58Gb free before I installed anything. How is that possible, is it because of recovery? because d: part has still all alll free space..?

2: Do you have good experience with Samsung Rec. solution 5? (works OK or problems with restore ...
2a: or is better to install actonis true image?

    3. If I install Acronis, how can I delete all what Sam reco. solution made?
3a) I also want to delete this on the c: of samsung recovery (if it really stores there)

    4. Is this on the CD samsung recovery ( that you saw in unboxing) the same as on the DISK -->system + drivers + some tools?
4a.if this is true I can without fair dellet all backups from samsung on the disk??

All day I am calling around someone to help me, but problem is that in Slovenia you can not buy Samsung laptop. so I dont have service in my language.

Thank you very much... I hope someone will help me...

    Bye :)

Here's a little benchmarking for you guys:
AMD Radeon HD 6750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2675QM Processor,SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B score: P5944 3DMarks

I haven't been able to install Battlefield 3 or Skyrim yet, but I'll have those benchmarks soon. For now, here's a benchmark running on 3DMark Vantage. As you can see I received a score of 4975, while notebookcheck.net reports an average score of 4545.2.

I haven't done any overclocking yet, but I did update to the latest 11.10 catalyst beta drivers.

I can't really say. I'm using Linux, and used Argyll CMS with a Color Munki Display for a custom ICC profile.

They're not that expensive, and although the stock software sucks, Argyll CMS did a great job.

Also, for those wondering I opened mine earlier today to replace the HDD with an SSD, and it was very easy.

    Unscrew everything on the bottom.
Pull out the dummy SD card.
Get something thin and plastic, and run along the top of the main body (where the bottom and the top meet, there's a seam, what you want to do is pry the tabs loose). Take your time and be deliberate with whatever tool you choose, and it'll come apart without too much fuss.

From there you can get right at anything user-replaceable.

Can someone tell me if its available in any store? Or is it only sold online now? And if so, can someone tell me which sites sell it?

I went to BB to have a look at the lower end version, the screen looks perfectly fine to me, I guess I am not picky with it.. :)

What the f*ck is up with Samsung? First the huge delay, then the bad screen and now different materials being used in different countries? That's f*cked up, man.
I thought this would be the perfect laptop for me, beautiful design packed with a lot of power for a good price. But no, Samsung had to destroy my hopes...
This isn't what they're advertising, why can't any laptop manufacturer get it right like Apple? Release a laptop no later than a month since announcing it, having good information policy e.g. so that everyone knows when the damn laptop is actually going on sale and last but not least not having 50 different setups of it just 3 or so and keep it at that for every country in the world!

I don't see why they used cheap plastic for the german version whereas the US version looks/feels alot more premium. Can someone from Samsung please explain me why they changed that? Also the BestBuy thing is a pure b*tchmove. There was no talk about a downgraded version at all, this is false advertising! Also why did they ditch the 15" version in 14" chassis in the US and other countries but are releasing it in Thailand etc.? Makes no f*cking sense!

I wish Samsung would read this but I guess even if they did, they wouldn't care. Samsung step your game up, get it right like Apple and you end up having happy customers.
    [/RANT]

I guess I'll have to wait for their 2nd revision of this Series next year. I hope they keep the US design but improve the innards and make the battery removable.

Thanks for the reply...Is there anything other than a supporting wifi card to be able to use WIDI?

    Edit:
It appears looking at the intel sites for i7-2675qm and widi requirements that all we need is to replace it with a widi capable network card.

    Hi Everyone

I signed up this forum specifically because of this laptop. I now got the laptop myself and I badly need some help... First does anyone know what is the second display port format used? I connected one monitor via hdmi but would like to connect second one too.

Second Is it possible to upgrade this laptop to SSD, I have a 160GB SSD drive from my previous laptop that is broken now and I would like to use in my new Samsung. Is this even possible? I wonder how the express catche will play with SSD drive and can I use the discovery disc that came with laptop to install windows?

    Your help is much appreciated!

I don't remeber but if you turn it up the colors look brighter and more accurate. If anyone can confirm this for me (I don't have the best eye for color) by going into the intel gpu settings and turning it up, i'd be really appreciative.

    Here's another benchmark for 3DMark06. I got a score of 9706, compared to notebookcheck's score of 8843.

This score is comparable to the nVidia Geforce 555m. That should be enough to play the most demanding games to date. Just check out the benchmarks for Alienware m14x.

I had originally thought there was a DisplayPort on the machine - but I think I misread the "Left View" Picture at the bottom of the UK features page. It actually says "Display Port". However, from a few places, I heard/read it's a mini-VGA.

Also, I had asked if there can be two independent monitor outputs (from mini-VGA and HDMI) - but no-one yet seems to know. If someone who owns the S01 can test it - that would be great.

This is the second or third time I read about this.

Can anyone provide a screenshot of "ideal" display settings?

What I noticed that without any configuration, white has a shade of pink. Other colors seem more or less ok.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

About the only thing we know for a fact is that there is a lot of variance among the screens in these machines. This is the only reasonable explanation for the wide range of different kind of reports from one source to another.

Because of this, you need to figure out the best settings for the screen you happen to have. Whatever might be optimal for somebody else's screen might not be good for yours. Do not assume they are all the same. They aren't.

My display was actually "cool", which isn't what you described. Weird.

Like I said though, it was calibrated using a tool that generated an ICC profile. So there's not really settings.

If you want to fiddle with the settings, try this site out:

    http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

It was real handy for me before I had access to a real calibration tool.

I bought mine from Best Buy since I don't use my laptop for things that a graphics card would benefit much. Those models don't come advertised with the Express Cache, and I didn't notice an empty port, although it is possible that it could be on the other side of the motherboard (I didn't pull it out). There was another guy a while back who posted pictures of his, I don't recall seeing it or not, and unfortunately I don't know what page the pictures were on either :-(

    Hope that helps.

Well I'm using Linux which has inherently different color than Windows, so the ICC profile wouldn't work right, and it sounds like the displays on these laptops are wildly different. In the best case, each monitor is different, which means sharing ICC profiles is usually a bad idea.

    Otherwise I would.

Most people are used to very saturated colors, which doesn't usually happen on a calibrated display. Not sure what they're going for. For what I use it for, it suits my purposes quite well.

What brand and make of SSD did you install? Also, how much free space did you have available after you swapped in the SSD?

    Thanks

Guys, I'm trying to figure out what's the difference between the S03US and S04US models. I tried to look it up in this thread but 245 pages make it difficult. =P Could you guys help me out?
It seems that the Mem Size is the only difference, but it doesn't justify the U$100 difference. =/

That update from Dabs sounds more accurate than the one I received today:

"The PO has been placed with our supplier and they have given us a due date for today."

This is exactly what they've been telling me for the last week!

Has anyone in the UK received one of these laptops from dabs yet? Or any other suppliers?

'Shasonic' has a big banner on their homepage saying they have stock of the top UK model in stock. Its £999 though, and they get terrible reviews, so I'm steering clear.

Other than that I have not seen any stock anywhere. I have been on order with dabs now for about 3 weeks with no word of anyone getting it shipped from them.
