I looked at that one and it seems to match S7 pretty good. Only drawback is sadly the lesser GPU. But I'm really considering it anyways. The thing is though, I think that its the INTEL/AMD combination overall that is bad, not just the samsung drivers so it might have the same GPU-switching issues.

Just looked at this review linked below and it made me feel more pro S7 again. Dosen't seem to be any problems with youtube-videos and there is also a gaming-video that shows that the S/ runs a lot of games really good

Do you mean to say that some of the S7 laptops have Sandy Bridge processors while others have 1st generation intel processors? I thought that they advertised sandy bridge, so how can they do that.

It does run games pretty well, but youtube videos still look kinda pixelated fullscreen, even thought its 720p or 1080p. Anyone know a fix for this?

All current S7 comes with 2nd gen Core Series (SB) processors.

Ok, I misunderstood what he meant but I understand now. On another note, if Samsung really is having issues selling this laptop (which I can't understand why except for maybe the lack of widespread availability and advertising), but if they are, I hope it means we'll see some damn good deals and discounts on the laptop soon. Heck, I know this laptop is still fairly new but even laptops that have come out since this laptop (including lenovo's u400 and HP's envy) have had several discounts on multiple websites and stores, even their own company's sites! So what's the deal, why is it that 1. this laptop is still barely available at all, and 2. when will start to see some discounts?

Lisa downplayed the issues mentioned - OpenGL and did not even touch on flash videos being pixelated. The flash video she played had pixelated words; look at the jagged and uneven words appearing.

She goes by the name of pdagal on NBR and it is noteworthy to know that she has voted in the OpenGL issue poll in the sticky thread.

Well, OpenGL isn't an issue for most, so it's not wrong to downplay it, and she did mention the most important thing, and it was when it comes to professional photo editing you should perhaps look for a Nvidia sollution instead.

Also, the pixelated flash issue depends on what browser you use. It works fine in IE, and perhaps that was what she was using, I didn't check.

does anyone know if there will be a 13" variant of this series 7 chronos? on the first post of this thread, the review link says they will be available from 13" - 15.6", and i haven't hard of any news for the 13" at all.

    i basically want a high res 13" screen inside a 12" chassis

Can anyone recommend a high quality bag for this laptop.
I have seen crumpler bags recommended but they seem to come as a 15inch bag not 15.6 inches

I just remembered that on the CNET review of the Series 7, they say that there is a magnetic clasp, but mine doesnt have one (though they misspell it as magnetic "hasp" ...unless they meant to right hasp. In that case I have no idea what a hasp is). Anyone else have one?

What's the difference between the current models and the (S0AUS) and (S09US)?

I think I've seen the S09US before but the S0AUS is listed under pre-order on Amazon.

looks like the S09US has 500gb vs 1TB in the S0AUS. Damn. I'm a lil jealous. I'd pay $100 more for more memory and 8gb ram. Mine only came with 750gb and 6gb ram :(

Note the Intel® Core™ i5-2450M Processor and 500GB hard drive on the S09, which I'd definitely take for the price discount versus the current models, when I'd also be getting the 8GB RAM. No ExpressCache listed? I guess I could eventually buy a hybrid drive or SSD once the price goes down, so not a deal breaker, but hopefully it's just an accidental omission on their part on the specs sheet. J&R lists the 500 GB model with ExpressCache, so who knows at this point, probably just an oversight on the Samsung page: Samsung NP700Z5A-S09US Series 7 15.6" Notebook PC - Silver in PC Notebook Computers | JR.com

It looks like the S0A maintains the same i7 as the current models. It actually looks like it is the same as the current S03, but with Windows 7 Home Premium instead of Professional.

Actually the S0A is better since the S03 had broadcom wifi rather than Intel.

Has anyone had problems with their bluetooth. My razer orochi was working fine till yesterday and then nothing.
I removed the bluetooth peripheral in the device manager, uninstalled the drivers. Restarted windows. It worked fine but the bluetooth was just recognised as a generi bluetooth peripheral.
So I tried installing the latest drivers from broadcom and the mouse wouldnt work anymore.
And the drivers from samsungs page a more than a year old, I really dont know what to install anymore

I was at the Microsoft Store in Costa Mesa, CA and one of the guys told me they were getting new shipments of the Series 7 in. He said they were going to be a different model than the previous ones they had so I assumed it would be the s09us model.

Just to clarify, is the only difference between the first iterations and the upcoming one only the wifi card? (Sorry if this has been asked before)

Well, that's the universal difference, but they also have different HDD and ram size combinations. Meaning, the S0A has a 1TB HDD and 8GB of ram and Win 6 Home premium for the same price as the s03 which had 750gb HDD 8gb or ram and win7 prof. The S09 has the i5 and 500gb with 8gb of ram and home premium, all for 100 bucks less than the s04 which has i7 6gb of ram and 750gb hdd with home premium.

So all in all, it all depends on exactly what config you want, but the addition of the new intel card with widi, dual band, and better connectivity really makes these far more appealing than the older models.

One more note, this is only what we know about the new models so far, they could have improved other aspects, like chassis build quality and/or screen quality.

Is it really dynamic contrast or simply dynamic dimming? I thought it was just staged dimming due to inactivity. Does pressing the ctrl key make it brighter?

No, it is definitely dynamic contrast. It only kicks in when a movie is active; even when it's in the background, but only when it's visible. When I close the movie; the dynamic contrast is disabled again. You can test it by starting a movie; launch paint, and use the bucket tool to make most of the screen black. Maybe you will notice that the brightness of the display is adjusted. You can also open a half-screen-sized bright window over the dark movie.

I disabled it in the catalyst control center and in Intel HD. Also I tried disabling the movie detection; and put color to standard; but nothing had an effect :(. Could it be that it's baked in the drivers?

You can't control this behaviour. The brightness level will go up or down a few steps automatically on all notebooks with Intel HD graphics, even on my ENVY14 it does it.

I got the 15.6" NP700Z5A-S03CA at Canada Computers a week ago. I'm very happy with it in general - great configuration for the price, great battery life, solid build quality, nice bright matte screen, attractive design, thin and light, and does everything I need it to do (nothing too demanding except for some gaming).

The OpenGL issue doesn't apply to me and the switchable graphics seem to work just fine - although many games report only the Intel HD, they definitely run on the AMD card based on performance.

    The only minor issues are:
Default touchpad settings are not ideal - and had to be tweaked (e.g. touch-drag is oversensitive and annoying).
3 or 4 times the wireless connection reported my broadband router had no internet connectivity. The Intel Wifi card remains connected to the network, but not to the internet ("page unavailable" error in Chrome). Other connected devices function fine at the same time so the network appears to be stable. Disabling and then re-enabling the wireless card in EasySettings resolves the issue.
No backlit keyboard on the S03CA, which was disappointing.
Black levels and viewing angles on the screen could be better, but you can't expect top quality at this price.
I have also had 3 or 4 random BSODs - no obvious cause.

Other than that, I love this laptop and have no significant complaints - it just ticks all the boxes. If the situation changes, I'll report back here with updates.

Interesting. I played a lot of 1080p videos using firefox and chrome in stock when I get this laptop like month ago or something like that. It was all fine, it was even better when I installed using Lescat drivers.
