I'm waiting delivery tomorrow. It was released yesterday here in Norway, and now in the mail...

I'm upgrading from a 13" 2009 macbook pro so I expect quite a jump in performance.

Here are link with specs from where I bought it

Will post an update as soon as I get it tested.

I always find it interesting how in most foreign countries you'll see ads that are 99% in that native language & alphabet, but that they always manage to squeeze in some sort of english catch phrase :p

Hehe... well Komplett operates in several countries, which justify the english slogan :)

None the less, the scandinavian languages are by far much more "englishified" than other.

@CompGU I'll make some shots comparing size

Could you test the wifi performance of the new S7 to see if it is still an issue?

And of course if you could identify the screen that would be great as it's one of the main concerns with the NP700Z5A

Ok, i've just used the computer for half an hour or so, and first impressions are good. Will post some pics soon, also comparing it to my MBP 13.

I'm not up to speed on all the issues I should look for, but the intel wifi seems to work good. The screen/panel (Samsung LTN156KT-068) is the same as before I believe?

I will need some time to make the adjustments I like, and I'm probably doing a clean install of win7...

Yes, it's the same screen... Now this is extremely disappointing. I'm really starting to consider the 17" now... In any case I'll wait for the XPS15 and see if it's as good as I expect it to be.

Added some pics to my gallery taken with my phone.

Being used to the MBP the matte screen certainly will take some time to adjust to. However I will mostly use it for internet, mail, programming and DBA stuff so I think it will work out just fine.

Or put it the other way round: We Europeans find the US prices to be somewhat low, even after taxes are allowed for.

So this laptop has the same screen issues, such as bad viewing angles, like the previous model?

The 17" is 2200$ USD here, so 1826$ USD for the 15" isn't that bad.

Well, I guess it all depends on the usage right...
I have not run any tests timing battery usage.

When typing this I'm at 65% battery and windows suggest I have 4hours 43 minutes left... So battery is very good I must say.

I can also confirm, palm rest is all metal. Viewing angles on the screen are ok horizontally, but could be better vertical. However the screen is not a deal breaker for me. I'm very satisfied with the notebook.

1826 is 83% of 2200 so in the US the 15 in should be about 1245$ or 83% of 1500$. I'd be happy with 1200$ to 1300$.

They probably first release their laptops in countries where they're so expensive it doesn't make sense to gray market import them into the US.

Depends. Full metal can mean a hot or cold palmrest, but it can also mean better build quality (toughness) near the palmrest.

Most countries use US-International layout but with some additional key markings.

I like the big Shift and Enter key on the new Samsungs btw :3

Actually, in US we get fair competitive market prices. For a variety of political reasons the cost of goods gets dramatically inflated in European countries. I'm not saying it's wrong, because obviously there is a very high standard of living for the average person in Europe (especially the Scandinavian countries), but I prefer cheap stuff! :D

I just got 15" Series 7 Ivy bridge (+ Nvidia GT640) on Sunday. It is very sweet. I paid 1300+tax at Future Shop here in Canada.

I love the form factor and the sweet sweet aluminum chassis.

The screen is great - a huge improvement on the other laptop screens I have had in my life. My last notebook was 1920x1080 on a 15" Toshiba Tecra that was not impressive at all. This screen is sharp and crisp and bright!

I read through every post on NOTEBOOK REVIEW and have been very impressed by the depth of most members' posts! Thank you!!! You answered questions I didn't even know I should have.

I am planning on installing Windows 7 Pro on a SSD and pulling out the existing 5400 RPM drive. Has anyone managed to swap out the HDD on this notebook? Otherwise what roadblocks can I expect to hit?

So far I haven't seen where I can even access the original drive in order to accommodate the swap.

Well considering it was just released, I would think not too many people out there have opened it up, let alone posted instructions and visuals. But if this generation is anything like the Sandy Bridge, and from my understanding it is, you can go by the disassembly guide posted by yknyong1 here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...ies-7-chronos-np700z5a-disassembly-guide.html

I made an account just because I saw this! What model did you get? S01CA? I still don't see it online. Do you have the futureshop item number? What province did you buy it in? The nearest futureshop is 45 minutes away so I want to make sure they have stock!

How do you judge view angles ? For example, if you put a uniform background, do you see the same color in every part of dispaly or you see a kind of gradient behaviour ?

Welcome aboard! Needless to say, if you're going to be travelling 45 minutes to get to the store you should call ahead to see if they have it. If they do have them put one aside for you if there's low inventory

Exactly, which is why I need the item number. I called corporate and all the guy could find in the system was the np700z5a so it's of no help to just have the model number. Plus the fact that it's not showing up online makes me think that it's not actually released for sale yet but they have stock. Maybe this guy was accidentally sold one under the np700z5a item number (which is $1300)? Who knows...

I didn't see it online either. I just went in to my local Future Shop here in Orangeville Ontario and gave him the rough specs I was hoping for and the guy there showed me the stacks and stacks of them in boxes above the display floor!!

I have been looking for something like this for a long time and hadn't even heard of this 7 Series model being on the horizon. So far I am VERY pleased with it.

    My model is the 700Z5C:

    http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/model/NP700Z5C-S01CA-techspecs

not the Z5A - see my post - this was NOT something I could find on their site either.

I don't know if I understand your question. I am a normal person who either likes a thing or doesn't. I can say I like a thing and roughly why I do and can't say much more than that. The opinion I gave is still quite valid though. Anyone with the two systems side by side would agree with me, I think.

However, to your point, I should have stated more clearly:

I am NOT a professional display viewing angle analyst (if that is even a thing).

    Thank you Mark838!

This is exactly the instructions I need (and nothing more than that). Can you tell me if the Samsung Disk that installs a fresh copy of Windows also installs all the additional crapware (Norton trial, MS Office trial Etc Etc...)?

    Thanks!

This is a little bit sarcastic and i sincerely smiled but, really, viewing angle of a display is not a uber nerdish or technish topic.
    From wiki:

"In display technology parlance, viewing angle is the maximum angle at which a display can be viewed with acceptable visual performance."
"The image may seem garbled, poorly saturated, of poor contrast, blurry or too faint outside the stated viewing angle range, the exact mode of "failure" depends on the display type in question."

In short word, a limited viewing angle occurs when you move the dispaly (or YOU SLIGHTLY move head left right up down while display is fixed) and immediately the display appareance changes and the color changes and become unnatural.

I believe you have a 700Z5C, I just thought they may have sold it to you using the 700Z5A SKU. Do you have the item number off of the receipt so I can call the local Futureshop and ask if they have stock?
