The display on this model is so so when adjusting gamma and color but wonder if anyone here have tried to replace the LCD on this model with a different LCD for a crisper monitor output?
If so, what LCD did you replace it with?

You may want to try reading through these threads. A few people have tried it, but it doesn't look like they were successful. Just a heads up if you attempt to do this, you will more than likely bend the bezel pretty badly during the disassembly process because it's a very thin strip of metal.
Most people have generally had an acceptable experience with this screen by using the "Sharp" setting in Easy Settings, or by using a custom ICC profile, or both.
Here are some related threads:

Look like some other Samsung models are starting to get drivers update for the Windows 8.1 but none for us NP700Z5C yet.
I am getting restless to get my laptop working normal again lol ..... hope it'll show up in sw updater soon.
Right now I am running Windows 8.1 but boot time is slow and hardddrive seem to be working all the time etc.

An 8.1 drivers section is listed in SW Update for NP700Z5C-S07DE (and -06 and 05 but not -04DE or earlier) but currently only contains SW Update. This suggests an intention to officially support some versions (probably only those that shipped with Windows 8). If the Z5C is like the X4C then the Windows 7 and Windows 8 versions shipped with different BIOSes which creates a further possible source of compatibility issues for 8.1 (that Samsung want to avoid having to debug).

Finally SW Update showing the new drivers on my NP700Z5C. Downloading and installing them now .....
Bill -
It look like my boot up time is back to normal to where it was after I did the new driver update from SW Update. Everything seem to be working again.

Alright looks like it's my turn to ask a question. I recently had to reinstall Windows because my OS basically stopped booting so instead of troubleshooting I just wiped and restarted. I've tried installing both vanilla Home Premium and SP1 (5-6 times total), and both give me this problem:
"NT Kernel & System" is constantly using ~10-15% of my cpu, which of course poses a problem since it's constantly at turbo, it's overheating, and it would decrease battery life. I've tried googling the issue with no solution. It turns out, when I have a disc in my dvd drive the process goes away, yet immediately upon ejecting the process comes back.
I've tried disabling, updating, and uninstalling the driver for the ODD with no luck. If anyone has anything to offer I'll gladly hear it, this issue is driving me insane. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
There was discussion of the problem in this thread around mid-May. Intel Rapid Storage was a suspect but I didn't follow through the discussion to a confirmed solution.
John -
Oh cool I've never seen it before. I don't have RST installed, does that mean I should install it then?
Edit: I've just installed it, still no luck. Weirdly enough I didn't have this problem when I first did a fresh install of W7 a year ago the day I got this laptop. I don't see why/how anything would have changed. I'm reading up on the past discussion now.
Edit: the problem seems to have subsided after using the laptop for a few days with RST installed. Assuming that's what fixed it.Dannemand likes this. -
Been reading about Windows 8.0/8.1 installation at My Digital Life forum, and how correctly identified media without ei.cfg file will access product key stored in BIOS. Then auto activate when go on-line.
Checking my NP700Z5C it uses Core edition so I should be able to use the RTM version of Windows media.
Anyone else tried this procedure instead of re-using the factory restore images? -
Does this mean that all the drivers + SWUPDATE is now supporting Windows 8.1?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Some, not all. Use SW Update's Find Model utility to browse the database. I think Samsung is intending to support only those versions of notebooks issued with pre-loaded Windows 8. For example, there is an 8.1 section for the NP700Z5C-S02UB but not for the NP700Z5C-S04US. One factor may be that, if the Z5C is like the X4C, then the Windows 8 version came with a different BIOS and UEFI enabled.
However, some people have reported success in upgrading to 8.1 on the Windows 7 versions. However, if you have a problem and are out of warranty then Samsung might not be very helpful.

Hello, i am the owner of an NP700Z5C - S01UB, running windows 8 and i have an problem with Samsung Settings App. The entire General menu is missing. Without it, i can't use properly the Fn keys. Any ideas? Wow can i resolve this problem?
-
The first thing I'd say is uninstall and then reinstall Easy Settings using the SW Update utility. Although, you may have already done that.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
It's Settings, not Easy Settings, for Windows 8.
Also, you can try the newest version of Settings for Windows 8.1 (but SW Update may have already given that to you and it's caused the problem). A full uninstall / reinstall might clear the problem). I was automatically given Settings 2.2.0.5 a couple of weeks ago and now have two different Settings interfaces which I can live with until Samsung do some more bug fixing.
John -
I like your new photo John. Didn't know about the Easy Settings vs. Settings change, oops.

Hello, I recently bought this laptop (np700z5c-s02ub) not knowing anything about the screen. The colors are washed out and seem to have a blue tint. I noticed I can tweak the colors in the intel display driver and they seem to yield hope. I've come up with some combinations that look good but my eyes hurt a bit so I was wondering if anyone with experience has come up with some better settings.
SW Update seems to have a Samsung color profile but after I install it nothing happens and I can't find anywhere to activate it. I've looked at windows display color profiles and I don't see it there.
A question regarding the temperature, while I play a game (WoW) the processor (3635qm) stays above 75 degrees, mostly at 80~ Is this a normal temperature for it? Considering the processor can operate at 105 it shouldn't be any issue. However, I wouldn't mind cleaning the fans and reapplying paste, just don't want to rush it right now, that's all. Video card is at 70 degrees max.
Shouldnt my model NP700Z5C-S02UB have the 640m with DDR5? Right now the software called Speccy states it has DDR3.
And last but not least, I'll want to add an ssd to my laptop and keep the hdd. Anyone took out the dvd drive? I took a quick look inside the laptop and they've seem to have put wires and other things on top of it. I'm just wondering if the regular drive bay's work. Like I've seen on ebay, there's a bunch of them for a ton of laptops and also includes this model which is weird. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
You should have a selection of display profiles on the Display tab in Settings. If Fn+F1 doesn't get you into Settings then check that it is installed.
80C is a very reasonable temperature during gaming. If you reach 90C then the system might start to throttle.
See this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/626915-hard-drive-caddy-series-7-a.html.
John -
Oh yes, I see there are a few profiles in Samsung Settings app, however these barely change the colors. I honestly can't see much of a difference when I switch between them. The color changes in the intel driver settings have much more of an impact but it's quite difficult to come up with a proper result.

Try this Google search:
To see if anyone has posted a custom display profile for this notebook.Code:site:http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung NP700Z5C display profile

This helped alot! Thank you, I'm much more satisfied with my laptop now

John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Does that mean you found a custom profile?
John -
Yes, I have, right here :
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...-np700z4-np700z5-icc-profile.html#post8131045John Ratsey likes this. -
I use Saturation setting of 15 in the Intel driver settings. It makes a huge difference.
-
Have you tried the color profile that was mentioned? I think it yields much better results. I took a look to see how default with the saturation value you mentioned would look and I think the colors are a bit too glowy, I tried the saturation before and I just couldn't get something comfortable.

Anyone have issues with the card reader in these laptops?
I got a microsd Sandisk 16gb with a adapter, for the love of me, it will not loader up.. it recognizes there is a card there but no media found... according to the storage management and fdisk...
I know the sd card works... i tried it on my phone and tablet ( samsung note 10.1 and note 3... ) i even have a adapter for the note 10.1 that lets you use a full sd card adapter with it and it worked on there as well
can't figure it out ! -
Could be a driver problem. Try and boot a Windows Setup DVD (or USB) and check if the SD card shows up there -- it should. Or Recovery (F4). If it doesn't show up in there, that's a sign there is a problem with the reader itself. Otherwise your Windows installation is somehow messed up.
Edit: Also try with another SD card -- even though this card works in your phone and tablet. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
That's the first thing to test.
There are still some residual issues with compatibility of USB drives with a few not getting recognised and, I think, the card reader is USB device.

Hello,
I have had a stock install (nothing replaced except own windows 7 pro) of NP700Z5C so far where Express Cache haven't ever worked. Sadly the original HDD is painfully slow and finally I replaced it with Samsung 840 Pro 256Gb SDD . Everything seemed to be fine when I installed Windows7 64-bit and drivers downloaded with Samsung Software update (downloaded driver with old install and tranferred them to usb stick). Now there is a problem with Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines which is always using ~10% of total CPU capacity. This process in combined with NT Kernel & System with ~4% load. I don't recall having this with my previous install. I have tried to disable all kind of drives from device manager and now with clean install I still get it. Have anyone else seen anything like this with their laptops? I'm starting to worry that the SSD might be the culprit and not a bad driver for another component.
Hopefully someone might have an idea what might be wrong.
Thanks -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
My first guess is it is due to the absence, or presence, of the Intel Rapid Storage driver.
If it is installed then uninstall it, and if it isn't installed then install it.
Or you may be able to trace the source of the problem using Process Explorer from the SysInternals toolbox.
John -
@CoffeeCup: If you're unable to trace the source of the problem, you can try to clean install again, using the exact steps in this install guide, which is confirmed to work with your model.
-
Thanks for the reply John Ratsey and Dannemand. I finally figured out the problem and the cause seemed to be something to do with rapid storage driver. For some reason Samsung own driver don't know how to use SSD (at least this model). I downloaded Intels own AHCI / RST drivers from their website https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20110&keyword=ahci&lang=eng and all DPC load went away. Hopefully this information can help some other people having the same problem.

@CoffeeCup: Great, thank you for the update!

Thanks for the update.
I'm pleased to see that I pointed you in the right direction.
John -
Hi guys, Dannemand recommended that I post in this forum.
I'm new to NBR. I have a Series 7 NP700Z5C-S02UB that I bought new a year ago. So far, I'm pretty happy with it, except for maybe occassional lack of WiFi connections that sometimes just will not connect for no apparent reason, especially when traveling. When it happens, it's just to my notebook only.
I've done all of the updates using the Samsung SW update except for Norton, which I don't use, and updating the bios. I currently have P06ABJ, and the new update would be to P07ABJ. What I would like to find out is, what differences, improvements and or benefits does the P07 update provide? Is it really worth doing, since I've read some folks have had issues performing the upgrade? When it comes to bios updates, I'm always a little skittish as they sometimes say. Screw up that procedure and you can wind up in a world of hurt. Since I'm not familiar with the how or why to run the bios updater outside SW Update, I need to understand what that is all about and find out how to do it.
After finding out about the bios, I want to look into the WiFi issue. Kind of aggravating at times when I can't connect, and our cellphones, tablets and my wife's laptop always connect right away. Any insight into this issue would also be welcome.
So, I just thought I'd ask those far more familiar with this notebook than I am. It's my first Samsung notebook, having had both HP & Dell in the past. So far I like it far better than both of those, not to mention it is built like a battleship.
Thanks in advance. Any help and or information would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Intel for the latest WiFi driver. There were a lot of bugs with the original driver for the 6235 that Intel were very slow to address and by the time that a decent driver arrived (about Sept 2013), Samsung had stopped updating the download database for your model.
My NP900X4C has the same WiFi card and the updated driver made a big difference.

So to the owners of this laptop, after having it for over a year now what are your thoughts?
I still love mine, although I've noticed it's started to become pretty creaky (the hinge is fine actually, it's the rest of the body). Otherwise, battery life and performance are still great and everything else is pretty darn good. -
Hi yjgfikl,
FWIW, I still use my (even older) NP700Z3A -- and still absolutely love it for its combination of compact size, its screen, great touchpad, phenomenal keyboard, and generally good features and performance. I would be challenged to replace it.
I haven't gotten around to stick an SSD in it yet (7200RPM with ExpressCache is quite tolerable and 750GB quite roomy) but I will some day before retiring this thing. Depending on what size of SSD, I may or may not move the HDD to the optical bay.
I would think a well kept NP700Z5C (maybe with an SSD) has quite a few miles left -- unless the latest gaming is a priority. -
Mine's been doing well. It's good for gaming as a backup computer or for mobile gaming. Can pretty much run any game out there, albeit at lower settings. I remember that 750gb HDD + SSD being pretty snappy as well, but I love having an SSD in here too. Keyboard/touchpad are awesome as well. I still haven't been wowed with the newer Samsung models especially since the 8870M model never made it to the states.
Has Samsung even bothered to release a non-ultrabook Haswell laptop? -
Has anyone experienced jumpy touchpad while connected to a charger?
Touchpad gets jumpy it's not usable while connected, am I the only one? -
Owners of the 2013 Series 7 / Ativ Book 8 seemed pretty happy with its gaming performance (particularly the 8870 model, of course). Samsung has just put out a 2014 refresh (see the thread linked below), but they went with a weaker Nvidia 750m -- I assume because the AMD switchable graphics has been a nightmare to support.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/742671-np870z5g-ativ-book-8-2014-refresh.html -
I've read a few reports of this from time to time. My suspicion is that poor (or no) ground connection, combined with static buildup, could lead to this. But that's just a theory.
Also make sure you check the touchpad thread linked below, where most of the useful discussion on that subject is gathered.

Hi, hoping someone could help me out, I have the NP700Z5C and after removing the base cover I have lost all the screws, I'm wondering could someone tell me what size they are so I can replace them and possibly somewhere to source them?
Thanks -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Most probably these M2,L4 screws but may be these M2,L6. M2, L4 means 2mm diameter length 4mm.
Those prices are probably for a pack of 10 but you would need to check.

Thanks a lot!

By chance does anyone know if the NP7005ZC-202UB has all updated drivers for Windows 8.1?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
SW Update shows an incomplete list. First read this thread, make a full backup of your system (including the recovery partition) and proceed at your own risk.
Some people have had successful upgrades and others have had nightmares. I've refrained from trying.

Hy all,
I have a problem with my NP700ZSC S02UB.My laptop won't enter in sleep mode,it won't shut down (the led for hdd go off, except for the one for power and battery charging) and when I restart it shuts down.I am runing win 8.1,
butnot sure that it's a windows problem because i've tryed to install ubuntu to see if is the os's fault but first I tryed to run a reebot command from the ubuntu installer cmd and the same result as in windows..shut down.I have a 120Gb Samsung EVO 840 as primary drive and the 1tb Hdd in a caddy. This problem happend even when the hdd was primary drive.
Don't know what the issue could be..
Please help..

Thanks for the links on the newer models. Still unfortunate how they haven't made it to the US. Maybe they're skipping straight to Broadwell?

Hi, this is my first posting having been studying the forum for quite a while after buying a Samsung NP700Z5C in late 2012. A really good machine so far hardware wise. This came with Win8 which I've tried to love, recently upgraded to 8.1 which in fairness is less bad, and have now finally given up! I would have done so much sooner but have been wary of opening the metal case and breaking it.
I now have a Samsung 512G SSD, a new Win7 64bit DVD and key, and have read lots on here about changing over but have a couple of questions I hope someone far more knowledgeable than myself may be able to steer me in the right direction as I cannot put this off any longer. I have looked long and hard at what has previously been posted over recent weeks and apologise if my questions have been answered elsewhere.
I've built and fiddled with desktops in the distant past but nothing in the last 6 years and things have moved on a lot from where I was once comfortable! So here goes...
When I install the SSD and rebuild with a Win7 clean install I would like to retain the original disk so I can revert to the original configuration should I ever need to. Is there anything I should be aware of that I may "upset" if I just dive in and make the hardware changes?
Also, as my new build disk is 512G and I do not intend to have more than two partitions, is there any advantage of GPT over MBR (or vice versa)? Is non-UEFI with MBR the correct way to go?
Any advice and warnings of potential pitfalls will be gratefully received.
