Thanks John, but I search answer for other points not cover from your post. Ciao

what is your battery consumption to "sleep mode" during the night, the plug is removed
evening 100% - morning 90% -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
It looks like no one has any specific advice to offer about your other questions. I don't.
That's quite plausible if Intel Rapid Start Technology is not working properly. See this thread.
John -
What was the resolution to your situation? My second battery has hit 30% and I will need to convince them to make a proper replacement with the X3C battery. I'd rather not get a new laptop as migrating the software is a hassle.
-
Unfortunately, there is no way to ensure they swap with the better battery so I'm going to exchange. After they told me the x3c wasn't available currently in their inventory, they were going to exchange for another x3b. I quickly responded no to that request, and suggested the x3e so that's what I'm getting now. However, I'm not crazy about a FHD screen (even though I am getting a bump up to an i7 and most likely a LITEON SSD) due to Win8 scaling issues , ill probably look to sell it if they send me a brand new unit and wait to see the new Haswell releases. This all happened today actually, as they took their sweet time processing the exchange.
-
That's unfortunate, they should really have done a recall on these cells. The X3E with i7 is pretty good, supposedly scaling will improve somewhat when 8.1 is released. But who knows what haswell units we'll see, I don't think samsung will have any more 900p S9s though. Thanks.
-
Sigh - so it's still not over. I accepted the $1300 hold on my CC to do advanced exchange for the X3E. Basically they send out the replacement immediately and give me 30 days to return my old unit. I got word that it arrived on Wednesday, shipped to my folks place. But when I got here today, I realized that they didn't send me the model we agreed upon, they sent another X3B! Now they'll have to reissue the exchange request and this has to be done all over again.
Interestingly enough on this unit, HWMonitor reports total battery size here to be 40256 mWh with 7.526V. 1% battery wear. After charging to 100%, voltage has now increased to 8.124V and has maxed at 8.390V. Going to use this for the weekend and see how quickly the wear increases. For some reason, the keyboard on this one also seems much easier to type on than my first unit - although it still has the hard plastic keys that you dont see on the x3c/x4c/x3e. -
Lame. I'm sending mine back in next week. I asked them to annotate "replace with newer model battery", but I doubt the techs will pay attention to that note, if it's even there.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
So that battery has got the voltage of the better one but not the capacity. Perhaps there's another version of compatible battery in circulation. The only way to find out would be to check the label.
I don't notice any difference in keyboard feel between my X3B and my X4C.
John -
Thought this would be an appropriate place to mention if any, the 2013 Macbook Airs ship with a 7.6 V, 7150 mAh battery, 50% more than the 4600 mAh battery in our NP900X3? devices
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
7.6 V, 7150 mAh = 54.34 Whr which is about 35% more than the original X3B battery or 22% more than the X3C battery that some of now have in our X3Bs. That's still a useful improvement although not the 50% you are suggesting. We wait to see what Samsung puts in the next X3.
John -
Whoops, was looking at mAh rather than Whr.
-
I'm sure Samsung could equal that if they added another 1/2 lb in a larger body. It probably is 150% capacity of my RMA'ing X3B battery though! All else equal, Haswell will probably be a 0.5-1 hour bump depending on usage which would be close to 8 hours. I'm rarely away from a socket for longer than that. I'd rather see them match Apple on maximum RAM and wifi reliability.
-
Well I'm getting a full refund from Samsung now so can't really complain. Guess I can wait to see what the haswell S9 will bring now.
-
I guess that works. Mine got there today, I really don't want to have to burn another 40whr though. Looks like the AA-PLXN4AR doesn't show up on samsungparts anymore?

This might seem an odd question, but is there a way to switch off the keyboard wifi light? (apart from turning wifi off).
When almost everything else on the computer is dark, and you're watching a video, the wifi light is a bit annoying. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I've not really noticed the light causing this problem. There's no way to disable it but you could permanently dim it by painting over it with a black marker pen.
John -
The ineptitude continues. Motherboard replaced, left worn battery as is.
-
So frustrating! I'm still using the x3b-a01 that they mistakenly sent me instead of the x3e that we actually agreed on. Been using it a lot and this battery that seems to be a 7V and 40whr seems to be good. Wear has been around 1-3% after maybe 7 or 8 cycles now and battery life is 6+ hours with wifi on and normal usage. Waiting to decide between the ATIV9 PRO, the MBA or the new rMBP whenever all prices/options are announced before I send this one back. This one runs perfectly fine though, as least for now.
-
I would advise your next call with executive customer relations to simply request for a refund - and put that towards a nice NEW haswell laptop with incredible battery life. I think we all deserve it at this point for dealing with this subpar battery for this long.
-
Yeah, I'm gonna cycle it every day this week (see if I can get to 30%) and call them Friday. I don't want a replacement X3B, so might as well cash out if they won't send me a 44 cell. I wanted to stick it out till haswell dropped in price a little, but might have to bite the bullet. I would need Samsung to release a non-touch model with i5 8GB that retains the current weight. Otherwise I might have to go with Sony. Well, time to recharge!

can battery model AA-PBWN4AB 7.6V 57Wh fit to 900X3B?
this site can be trusted?

advise reliable website that has a battery (PLXN4AR 5880mAh) -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Any of the X3C batteries such as this should work in the X3B.
I've not used that site but the company is in China and ships from Hong Kong. I have bought plenty of smaller items from HK companies, but either through Amazon or ebay. I would pay by PayPal. How well the battery will last is an unknown. If you want a genuine Samsung part then contact one or more of the Samsung service locations (I presume you are in UK) and expect to pay at least double.

hi john
just wondering, from what date year warranty from the back side of the laptop (or from the BIOS sale date (turned on)? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The warranty starts from the turn-on date in the BIOS. This can be several months later than the manufacture date.
John -
Hi All, my 900X3B-A02US laptop will no longer hold a charge. I am trying to replace the battery but samsungparts.com shows that the battery for my laptop no longer is available. Would a battery for a 900X3D-A03US work as a replacement? It's from Samsungparts.com
Thanks in advance for the advice! -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Yes. The X3C / X3D battery works fine in the X3B even though the voltage is different. It's what Samsung put in my X3B when I had the battery replaced under warranty. Go back up this thread to March 2013 to see more details and the battery part number.
As a bonus the new battery has about 10% more capacity.
John -
Thanks for the really quick response! So I should be fine with buying this battery for the 900X3B-A02US? Sorry, I had put the wrong link in before. Specification: 921700031,AMOR2-13,LI-ION POLYME
It's been such a hassle getting answers from Samsung and their authorized service centers.
Thanks again for the support!
Forgot to mention that I looked through a multiple postings before.... I just wanted to be extra sure

I've checked my photos of my replacement X3B battery and the serial number includes the string "BA4300350A" which I interpret as meaning we are talking of exactly the same part.
John -
Thanks so much for all the assistance! It's really appreciated!
-
Another defective X3B battery. I can't believe there wasn't a recall. Shame on you samsung.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Has any notebook manufacturer done a battery recall except where's there strong evidence of the batteries exploding?
However, I suspect there's enough evidence of battery under-performance relative to Samsung's claims (another copy attached) to be able, in UK, to demand a replacement under the latent defects provisions of the Sale of Goods Act which covers inherent defects which do not necessarily become evident until after the warranty period. However, it is the retailer who is liable. They, in turn will have to chase the manufacturer.

Yeah unlikely, I don't know if we have anything like that here in the US, you'd probably have to file a class action suit. I know my dell's battery exploded and they wouldn't send me a replacement even though there had been a recall for my model, just not on my specific cell.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Any box will do provided it provides good protection. In fact, if you send it in the original box it will probably come back in something else.
You should check with the service centre what else you should include. I think I was required to include the power supply.

Hi
Is it possible to change the battery yourself? How difficult is it? My warranty is void anyway so I am not afraid to open it up myself. I also need to replace the right fan. Have anyone any experience in replacing the fan? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
There's an internal photo in my NP900X3B review. Removing the base is reasonably easy: With computer upside-down and the back edge nearest you, remove 10 screws using a good quality Philips size 0 screwdriver, put finger into the SD card slot cover and lift base to rotate about 15 degrees around the back seam (held together with plastic clips) while trying to unclip the seam starting at one end (a thin stiff piece of plastic will be useful).
Changing the fan is straightforward: Unplug it from the mainboard and remove a couple of screws. You con find the part number for the fan at Samsungparts.com. However, the left and right fans may not be the same - I don't know if they are reversible.
John -
Thanks a million for replying. I saw the picture you mentioned. I am actually concerned about whether the battery is attached to the body by some adhesive or similar? Or you can simply lift it up?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The battery is fixed by some screws around the edges. It's not glued. I did once remove the battery of either the X3B or the X4C in order to weigh it.

I just stumbled on a quite illustrated service manual
Slim Inside and Out | Official Blog: Samsung Tomorrow
Sorry in case this has been posted before.John Ratsey likes this. -

Thanks.
I haven't been that before. It is more of a guide to the design and the components than a service manual but will be helpful for anyone going inside.
It will substantially apply to the newer models as well.

Hi
My lovely Samsung NP900X3B just developed a strange problem.
When booting up, unless you press some of the F keys when booting, it will enter the BIOS menu.
A few of the keys will only work with the right Shift key (G in particular), and occassionally the trackpad will stop working, but pressing the Windows logo key revives it.
Any ideas? I have reinstalled Windows, and reset the BIOS to defaults. It has the latest BIOS version. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Possibly a keyboard problem that makes the computer think that the F2 key is being pressed.
Sometimes the contacts on the cable get oxidised. I would remove the bottom of the computer, locate the ribbon cable for the keyboard then disconnect, rub the contacts with a pencil eraser and reconnect it (careful with the connector - it is usually held in by a hinged latch that has to be lifted).
John -
Thanks John
I used a keyboard diagnostic tool, and it showed that F2 was a key that didn't work, so I am assuming an electrical fault is holding it down.
I removed the bottom, and disconnected the keyboard connector. It didn't boot into the BIOS.
I tried cleaning the connector as you instructed but it didn't fix the problem. I also removed the key cap from the F2 key and gave it a good air dust.
Perhaps I should remove the keyboard and see if there is a better way to clean it, or perhaps replace it if I can find a new one.
How do I remove the keyboard? -
P.S. Are Samsung replacing the batteries on our ultrabooks even if they are out of warranty, because of the 20% promise?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The keyboard is integrated into the keyboard surround / palmrest unit and is sold as a complete part as shown in the photo here. I would note that the part is the same as for the NP900X3C unit which may be easier to find.
Your ability to get Samsung to replace the battery outside of the normal warranty period could depend on your negotiating skills and the consumer legislation in your country. It appears that a batch of the X3B batteries was sub-standard. I got mine replaced within the warranty period when the wear was over 25%. I attach a PDF of Samsung's original announcement View attachment Samsung U.S. News X3B Battery Claim.pdf which states:
However, the use of "up to" may allow them to escape, since it implies an upper limit.
