I'm strategizing my ICS upgrade. I've decided to offload my music to google music. My computer finished uploading so does that mean i can delete the music off the computer and it won't erase the music stored in the cloud?

I'm sorry, but at 720p offscreen rendering A5X will crush Tegra 3 like a bug. NVIDIA should have just kept their mouths shut, since the only thing they should be proud of is that they always have the absolute cheapest/smallest die, and it's NEVER the most efficient at anything it does.
Nvidia will put Apple's A5X claims to the test, says it's 'pleased' by Tegra 3 comparison | The Verge

You mean Google Play Music now?
Check the Google Play Music website, if all the songs are there, then you don't need it on your computer if you need the space.
-
Hah, Yeah that...
Awesome, I'll delete the songs off the PC then as I could use the space.
Thanks! -

You'll be amazed at how much better that phone runs with ICS. -
What ROM are you using on yours?
I've tried 3 now. Two of them didnt have settings to change the notification bar toggles (a must) and the one did, but they suddenly dissappeared.
Really not having good luck with these ICS transitions
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
For me, I'm using a self-compiled CM9 build, but they just put CM9 v17 out for the Captivate so it's basically what I'm running. That, with TK-Glitch's beta-5 kernel. At stock 1GHz with a 120% bus OC with NSTools it flies. -
Can you change around the notification bar toggles?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yep.
-
How do you think will the Exynos 5250 and the T604 stack against those 2?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The CPU portion will be better with Exynos, that's almost certain. The GPU is another story... I think Apple still has the leg up with the SGX543 MP4+. -
So anyone have any insight on the latest GNex ROMs/kernels? Currently using the combo in my sig and seems to be working well but would like to know what others have experienced.
-
Using AOKP build 25. Runs well, though I might need to upgrade... Alarm clock seems to be working inconsistently.
-
I think I'm still on AOKP Milestone2.
It works well, so I'm not fussed about constantly re-flashing every time a new build is released.
As for the kernel, I use franco.kernel.
Again, not on the latest version but it's stable which is all I want/need. -
Yep, that's PS Vita's GPU too...
Now imagine the Exynos 5250 CPU and the 543 MP4+ GPU, or even the 544...
-
Awesome, I'll try it. I skipped over that one for some reason when i DL'd the other 3
In other news, looks like we have a new CM9 dev for the E4GT!
darchstar/Ameer. New thread up for it on XDA, hopefully will bring some better battery life. It already has CWM (instead of stock recovery like the last), so its already improved.

Also, opinions needed, is it worth paying the money for the premium version of NovaLauncher? -
Hey, has anyone been able to root 2.3.5 yet? I still can't root my Galaxy Player.
And can anyone recommend me a thin case for a 5" tablet that can hold a stylus and a pen. Thanks.
edit: nevermind, SuperOneClick v2.3.3 did the trick, after trying about a half dozen times. -

Typical Samsung...
Plus, no Flash support? No thanks, I'll stick with the beta XXLPB then. -
Nice!
Thinking about getting Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, anyone here ever played it? -
Hey guys (in particular SGS2 owners),
What do you use for phone backup? Do you use any specific Android app? or the Kies backup?
I've been thinking of trying Mybackup as it seems to be the most popular, but I thought I'll get your opinion on the best way to backup..
Btw, its an 'un-rooted' phone.. Thanks. -
Got an e-mail today, they have a small quantity of sample units with the NTAG203 chip, in a keyfob style.
They're going to send me one, which is really nice of them
-
Titanium Backup. But I believe you need to be rooted for it.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Not really. I haven't found any reason to update to the paid version... unless you need to hide apps or would like gestures. -
I like the app-hiding thing, it's about the only feature I miss from LancherPro.
But I dunno. -
Thanks.
Yeah, that's what I saw for most of the popular backup app's.. but I don't want to root the phone or anything. I'm happy as it is now... I do use Google sync/backup contacts and other similar stuff, as well as Kies.. But I wasn't sure if all the apps and their settings were backed up.
I tried Mybackup (doesn't seem to backup all app's - looks like it backs up only those that are integrated with Mybackup).. and then there is an app manager within ES File explorer, which allows to backup, which actually backs up all the Apps...
Anyways. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Best way to backup is ClockworkMod. It literally makes an image of your /system, /data, and /datadata partitions. Anything goes wrong you can wipe and restore back to that point... no strings attached.
Otherwise, if you're going to use TiBu or something similar, be sure to ONLY backup third party apps. System apps don't take kindly to being restored or having their data restored. -
Alright, thanks for that.. I'll keep that in mind
I'll may be give CWM a go.. feel tempted!
-
For those who run ICS but cant get official Chrome...
Back up your build.prop, and find the line for ro.build.id and change the value to IML74K. Reboot.
And you will get official chrome updates through the market
-
Hey guys, I'm looking for help. Trying to update to ICS on my captivate. Here are the instructions I was given, which don't seem to be helping. When I try to update it says signature not verified and won't move forward. Any ideas?
Download this update.zip and place it on your InternalSD, like you did the ROM. Don't put it in any folder, just on the root of the SD.
Shutdown your phone and take out the SIM and externalSD if you have one.
Hold volume up + volume down + power, and boot into the recovery menu.
The recovery menu will be blue text, and you'll want to select "reinstall updates".
Your phone will automatically reboot and come back to this blue recovery, and you'll select "reinstall updates" once more and you'll immediately go into a green ClockworkMod Recovery.
From ClockworkMod, you'll want to use your volume buttons to scroll down to "Install zip from sd card", then use your power button to select.
Then "choose zip from sd card", power button to select.
Now, find the ROM zip and select it with the power button... it'll ask you if you want to install, select yes then it'll automatically do everything for you.
Your phone will immediately reboot after installing the ICS kernel, then it will install the ICS system files after converting your internal storage to EXT4.
Then after it's completed everything, it will automatically reboot into ICS.
Now just wait for it to boot, since it can take a few minutes on a new install.
Welcome to ICS.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
You have 3e recovery, if it says signature verification failed. Get a stock 2.1 eclair ODIN one-click and restore your phone to that... Then follow those directions. I forgot that froyo moved to 3e.
You'll find those Odin packages at xda in a sticky thread in the android development section for the Captivate. -
Not really sure I understand what your saying. Where can I find 2.1 eclair? Been looking for it and haven't found a copy of the ROM anywhere. I'm kinda stuck with a factory default phone till I can find eclair. What about the factory gingerbread? Is that any good?
-
GB is nice, but I have one question : why don't you flash ICS through ODIN? Instead of going through all those steps, ODIN is a easy 3 step procedure...
If you have any trouble on flashing with ODIN, I have a small guide I made here : [GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII - xda-developers
Just follow the part where and how to flash, ignore the file download and such. Also ignore the usage of .PIT and re-partition. -
Wow, the Captivate's Glitch kernel is awesome. Want.
-
I'm just going from confused, to more confused. I've never done this with the phone and didn't think it would be so confusing :0
-
Hehe, it's normal! I required 4 months of reading and understanding to feel "safe" when flashing. And even now, while I'm flashing, I jump around panicking because something can go wrong
What I recommend to you : try to find an ICS package that has 3 files : CODE, MODEM and CSC, and then flash them with ODIN. -
I have no idea what I'm looking for in a ROM, or what any difference is. Is there anywhere I can just download eclair 2.1? I havn't found it anywhere. May give that a shot.
-
First, if you dont have GB (Gingerbread) & GB Bootloaders already, get them here. Get the Kernel with CWM (ClockwordMod Recovery) option. Use the ODIN One Click to flash it, follow the instructions on the page. Then pick an ICS ROM, put the .zip on your SD Card. (I recommend Gummy ICS or TeamHacksung ICS)
Turn off your phone and boot into recovery mode (Hold volume up & down, and power button) and you will see recovery mode. Use the hardware buttons to "wipe data" and "wipe cache" (you will lose all your stuff, make a backup), then "install zip from SD card". Find the ICS ROM, flash it. and your done!
You can get Eclair and every other OS version in the Bootloader link above. But you must be on crack if you want Eclair, it's from the beginning of time
Its often different on the Captivate. There are ODIN "One Clicks" which does everything for you in... well one click
No 3 files to put in MODEM, PDA, etc.
-
Well... Then, before something goes really wrong, what I really, really advise you to do is just read everything related to flashing, recovering phones, recovering soft bricks, rooting... Everything
And then try again on flashing the phone.
-
Sorry, I had to
But doesn't the Captivate have the same chip as the GS1? I know that the GS1 is pretty much the same as the GSII when it comes to flashing, then why doesn't the GSII have also such kind of ODIN "one click"? -
What exactly is GB Bootloaders, and CWM, and why do I need them. I'm jjst not understanding some of the terminology. Sorry. For me it's easier doing things, if I know why I need to do them
-
No clue
None of the other Galaxy S 1 lines have ODIN One Clicks either. Only the Captivate. Never seen them on the Vibrant or Epic 4G. When I first saw them i was like what the hell is this? lol
GB Bootloaders are the Bootloaders from Gingerbread. Which are required for running ICS on the Captivate.
CWM is ClockwordMod Recovery. Its a modded recovery mode that lets you flash (install) custom ROMS (aka: upgrade to ICS)
ODIN is the program you will use to change to Gingerbread and Gingerbread Bootloaders. Which as I said above is very simplified all in one click.
If you pick the ODIN GB Package with Bootloaders it will install them for you. Then just download the Kernel with CWM and it will give you the recovery you need to flash a ROM
I've done all this stuff on a Captivate before, it's not difficult at all.
-
GB Bootloader stands for Gingerbread Bootloader, which is the bootloader for Android 2.3.x. A bootloader is kind of the BIOS of the PC. You mess it up, your phone becomes and expensive paperweight. Therefore, you have to be very, very, VERY careful when flashing bootloaders.
CWM stands for ClockworkMod and it's a custom recovery made by ChainsDD (if I'm not mistaken), and it's an improved recovery menu, with a function to flash ROMs, do nandroid backups, wipe dalvik cache and many others.
EDIT : ahl, you mean ninja
Wait, in my package (XXLPB), I believe I flashed ICS bootloaders, not GB bootloaders...?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The Eclair download is the quick and easy way to get downgraded to 2e "non-signed" recovery. It's the easy way to get CWM installed on the Captivate. Then with that installed, it's so simple to install CM7 or CM9. The CyanogenMod install scripts that are included in the ROM literally do everything for you.
I've actually found that GB bootloaders cause more issues than they solve on the Captivate. Earlier build models will function better with Eclair bootloaders, but later models are better with GB bootloaders.
All of my Captivates have been 1007-1008 builds... -
It's required to have GB Bootloaders to run ICS, no?
