Ok I just turns the wifi on and off and ot enables/disable 3G. So does wifi usage go against my data plan? I have a 2GB/mo plan.
Also how much data does streaming Pandora use?
-
-
Ha, I've been thinking that for a while now...just never thought about mentioning it..
I agree.
Of course not. Wi-Fi will never count toward your capped data, that's one reason why wi-fi's there- So you can take advantage of faster data speeds AND stay within your data cap. You'll also find that your battery will last longer when you're connected to wi-fi. Just be sure you turn off wi-fi before you leave the house, or it'll keep searching for a signal.
I'm not exactly sure how much data Pandora uses, although I'd assume a sizable amount. Because I'm on an unlimited plan and don't mind waiting a extra few seconds between songs while driving, I have Pandora set to stream in high quality.
I'd personally go old school and use the phone's music app with your own tunes (you can sync music on the phone's SD card easily with WMP...just plug it in and select "Turn on USB Storage"...then launch WMP) and save Pandora for occasional usage while on 3G if I was on a 2 GB plan. -
Gah, why are so many people idiots?
Over on XDA-devs, the number of people whining because their phone connects to the internet automatically or how much of a hassle it is to completely disable data usage.
That's how the OS is designed to work!
If you don't want a phone that connects to the internet automatically, don't go for Android. -
just turn off the data usage in the settings, then it wont matter. wth yo

Unlimited 4G, 5GB 3G. Sprint $79.99 so nice.
-
Unlimited 3G + texts and 300 minutes, $25. I think that's pretty nice
-
-
^ hahaha i knew that was coming
-
It doesn't matter how cheap your deals are, my network is paying me!
I got another £35 discount for last month. -
hahaha awesome
As for me, i thought i would be able to lower to the $30 plan for 1500 text/minutes.
But im only half way though the month and already have ~1000 texts used, so i dont think thats gonna happen, damn it
-
I hit around 1400 min/texts a month. You send 66 texts a day on average
-
I did 6300 texts in a month before, thats 210 a day
-
Were you like on a trip or something? I don't think I could send out 100 a day.
-
no, but i didnt have my laptop for 2 weeks, so thats why
On a normal month i can still do about 4000 though (133 a day)
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yea... it's surprising how many texts you can make when you're in constant conversation with 3 or 4 people. I can rack up about 5-6000 pretty easy -
I have a job and need to sleep, so I can't get anywhere near those sorts of numbers.
-
yeah!
most people dont understand and theyre like.....
Yeah that complicates it, it will for me soon and ill know
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Lol. The GF runs up the text count a good bit. -
Yeah that too
I'm pretty consistent at around 2500 texts a month.. I used to hit 5000, but I guess I got too old to text that much
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL... My grandmother that's like 68 years old texts... All. The. Time. It's not an age thing, trust me.
-
lmao! I wish my grandmother was that cool, texting grandparents must be awesome
But I can see that younger people (from 14 to 18) will text more than most adults (18+).
That happened to me
I used to text much more when I was still in high school, now I much prefer calling when I can.
-
My grandmother listens to the song "Tonight Im (Loving) You".

MyTouch HD has landed.
-
all these new phones make my mytouch slide seem outdated.... but at the same time the only thing my phone can't do is play the latest games
-
-
Whats special about the myTouch HD?
Better than the Class 2 that im gonna buy
its cheaper though
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Actually cheaper in the UK , £26.72 = $42.83 delivered from Amazon , opposed to newegg $48.98 , cheaper in the UK, I cannot believe it.
EDIT : I ordered one and will benchmark it and post the results when it arrives.
Patriot LX Class 10 16GB microSD Card: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
-
Damnit, that's cheaper than the class 10 card I just bought by about £5.
-
Ugh 50 bucks.
But it cant be as slow as my class 2...
hmm decisions decisions -
I paid $30 for a class 6 that pretty fast.
-
The MyTouch Slide isn't a bad phone at all. Great keyboard and surprisingly speedy for what it is.
Only downside could be Espresso but some people like HTC Sense and some dont, to each their own.
-
Does the speed of the SD card really matter? how often are you transferring big files on it?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Some people get them for Apps2SD, which needs to be reasonably speedy. I only have music on mine though.
-
Oh yeah thats true. I have 16GB internal storage on mine so a Class 2 will be fine for me
-
That's why I got mine, along with the machismo need to have the best

There is a free app called "AnTu Benchmark" , among other things it does an read/write speed test of you sd card, handy if you want to know the in device speed.
EDIT : It only tests the internal flash memory speed, not external flash

Hmmm , Interesting artical on how to preserve the life of lithium battery`s
How to prolong lithium-based batteries – Battery University -
I'm not convinced by some of the claims in that article - especially the one about manufacturers over-rating their batteries.
At work we regularly see batteries come back with test print-outs showing them to be at >100% of their rated capacity for up to the first 6 months at least. -

I am not surprised, if you charge it every day, in six months you would only have charged it 180 times, way short of the approx minimum life of 500, 100% discharge cycles of the report and they claimed you should replace the battery when the capacity reaches 70%

Yeah, I did this with an app myself, but you still need a rooted phone.

Launcher7 - Feels really quite weird............
Surprisingly well done. Some of the stuff people have done
here are really neat.
(I was just trying it out.) -
