I purchased a Galaxy Nexus today. I also purchased the OEM 2000mAh extended battery. I hope it lasts close to as long as my One S. My One S has a 1620mAh battery, and the Nexus has a 2000mAh. I can't wait to try 4.1!
-
The N7 is very tempting and I know would last me at least 2 1/2 years. I'm very close to getting one for just casual use, plus updates shouldn't be a problem.
-
So, the iPhone 4S launched on Virgin Mobile today...for only $650!
And if you're more budget-conscious, they have the old iPhone 4 for just...$550!
The sad thing is, I'm sure it will sell like hotcakes, despite VM offering the HTC Evo V 4G at $300. -
Seeing as the iPhone 4S is ~$950 here for the 32Gb inc tax (i.e. $760 minus tax - and yes, ~$950 is what I paid since I buy every handset SIM-free) I'd say it was inevitable. There is no chance of Apple giving up those margins.
The other thing is though, the Apple resale myth does actually hold in mobile phone-land if not in notebook-land anymore so it wasn't a bad purchase (in overall terms) for me. I ditched the 4S recently and got ~$650 for it. Compare that to the ~$250 I could get for my $560 SIM-free Lumia 800. -
And then there's the crowd that will buy iPhone 5 right after buying a 4S literally a month before the 5's release date.
-
Yes, Apple products do hold their value ridiculously well. My fanboy roommate sold his 3GS and his iPad 2 and paid for an iPad 3 and then some.
-
This might sound like a stupid question but I've never really thought about it - does ICS in-built data monitor included uploaded data in your usage or just downloaded?
-
Both upload and download.
-
Thanks, I actually eventually found a page on Google's own site about the Galaxy Nexus.
I don't know what was wrong with the particular combination of key words I used to search with the first time but I couldn't find anything. -
Installed Jellybean last night on my Galaxy Nexus.... loving it. Project butter is not an exaggeration, I can't make this thing lag if I tried. Also, offline voice dictation is very impressive.
-
Got to see a functioning model of the S3 at T-Mobile today... the blue is nice.
I thought I was going to have a hard time deciding between it and the Galaxy Nexus... but it's no contest... the S3 is thinner and feels better. While I want a native Google experience... the SD card slot is a win for the S3... just need to wait until July 1st.
I also read the Note II may be out in September... going to hard to decide between that and the iPhone 5 as a secondary phone. -
An Update on Flash Player and Android « Adobe AIR and Adobe Flash Player Team Blog
anyone knows why this is happening? -
Because Adobe have chosen to focus their efforts elsewhere.
As the page you linked-to says, Adobe announced the move a while ago. -
@EricaL:
Because Steve Jobs is a meanie and he killed Flash.
In the end, even Adobe knew that Flash wasn't for mobile... too resource hungry. -
so now there will be no flash for android either?
also - Samsung Galaxy Nexus banned in US - http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/jun/30/samsung-galaxy-nexus-banned-us?newsfeed=true -
Flash will still be on android just no new updates only ones for security is what I heard
Sent From My Rooted EVO 3D -
It's still for sale: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa
It's only banned until the outcome of the trial. EDIT: The Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 will be banned as soon as Apple posts $96 million bond.
That is complete bull crap. The Galaxy Nexus looks nothing like the iPhone. I like Apple products, I just had a MBA 11 for a few days, and it was wonderful. However, the above accusation is absurd. -
I have a GSII, a phone which they accused of copying the iPhone 4S. I've a freind who has a 4S. The feel is COMPLETELY different. Rough edges, and much thicker. Apple is ruining business with their stupid kiddy complaints.
-
Which kernel do you have? I had some lag issues with franco's kernel and finally got it running right with linaro.
-
If any phone is close to the iPhone... it would be the GS3 now that all the US carrier models have a physical home button.
-
Saw the Rezound in person today. Nice screen but a tad narrow (stupid 16:9....)
-
I can't decide between my One S and my Galaxy Nexus.
I like the stock Android on the Nexus, but the hardware is outdated compared to the One S.

Android can use HTML5 as a replacement, Mobile Flash is dead.
Serious post?
This is actually quite simple to solve.
GN:
+Google Support = Early update = Jelly Bean
-OMAP A9
-Outdated SGX540 OC'ed = struggles w/ heavy graphics
-Pentile
+720P = wonderful
-Slower Modem/Data Chip
+Screen size, 4.6
-No micro SD
One S
+Unique Coating
+S4 A15 Chip = Superior
+Adreno 225 = Superior graphics
+ Can use Sense + Vanilla Roms
+ Faster Modem = HSPA+ 42Mb
-qHD, but less GPU work
-Smaller screen, 4.3 = low ppi
-No micro SD
Ding, ding the winner is the One S -
Haha, thanks. I just sold the GN. I'll probably pickup the next Nexus.

Fixed it for you...

1. A Dual-Cortex A9 is slower than a Dual-A15; A15's will be pretty prepared for future revisions of Android, plus they have new features anyway.
2. The Adreno 225 is much faster than a SGX540, this allows certain high-end Android games like Nova 3 or Shadowgun to take advantage of that extra power. Not sure how you could think it's poor. The Adreno 220 from the S3 is bad, the 225 is much better.
Samsung Galaxy S III compared to Tegra 3 and Snapdragon S4 in GPU benchmarks | Android and Me
3. The One S has a lower density than the GN which is minor but still a point. Perhaps the = sign wasn't the appropriate thing. But the GN has a better pixel density as a result of the 720P being paired with the 4.65" screen Vs. the 1S' qHD(540P) paired with its 4.3" screen. A better density allows text to be very sharp and clear, which is why the iPhones always have great texts among other things.
4. I didn't know the GN had access to Sense/htc roms, I know the Nexus One did; then again I haven't been following up on the GN's roms
5. The OMAP is a good CPU, sure, however it's obsolete by today's standards.
6. chipping is a small price to pay for ceramic coating

I'm pretty sure only the black One S chips.

Last month Sony made the ICS update available for its 2011 Sony Ericsson cellphone lineup, which includes my Xperia Mini Pro. The phone has Sony's slightly customized Gingerbread as stock firmware.
I'm having reservations updating. So far I've read complaints of a slower and buggier experience with ICS-upgraded Xperia Mini Pros, owing mainly to the greater hunger for RAM. Also, to be honest, I don't really find much wrong with Gingerbread.
Is the decision to update to ICS device-dependent? While my phone can officially make the jump, I'm still looking for a definitive push for ICS. -
Updates are pushed to these devices pending on manufacturer/carrier. ICS is supposed to help smooth out the whole Android experience, but from my experience so far it may actually do more harm than good on devices that have older GPUs with 720p screens and/or less than 1 GB RAM (I'm looking at you, Rezound). Some manufacturers will push updates by region, while most carriers will push the update when they've put on their bloatware on it and verified it doesn't crash the phone every other second.
As much as promising as Jelly Bean is, I will wait for the official images from Google. All the ROMs based off the leak or SDK is a bit buggy and it broke all the text menus on my Kairosoft games. Total deal breaker.
-
ICS should actually be better for the Rezound because:
1. Gingerbread was not coded properly for Dual-cores, many times 1 core would be offline, so ICS should be quicker
2. ICS is GPU accelerated, prior to, everything was rendered via CPU, so your phone should be much more snappy. If I remember correctly, all the devs that build for S3(snapdragon) chips @xda have already added GPU OC to their kernels.
3. Why don't you use the Sense 3.6(ICS) ROMs, remove the Sense apps or use a senseless rom, install the APEX launcher, and call it a day?
4. Don't wait for htc to update b/c they will update the One series first then they will slowly get around to giving other phones updates if they want. Htc is not very reliable with updates if you ask me, they will probably update the One series to Jelly bean and that will be their last update officially. -
Keyword is "should". The Rezound is probably one of the very few devices I've seen where ICS actually made it slower and I was ended up forcing S-OFF on it to get it back to Gingerbread. I blame it on Verizon/HTC premature build or the Adreno 205 doesn't have enough horsepower to sufficiently support a 720p screen. I've seen the same GPU on a Galaxy S II Skyrocket with ICS and it was smooth as butter.
-
The Adreno 205 is actually the GPU from the S2, it was in the myTouch 4G, Incredible 2, G2, and other major htc releases late 2010-early 2011. The GPU paired with the rezound is the Adreno 220, I had a similar phone as you(htc sensation) but that that has qHD instead. Anyway it's too bad that your ICS experience(s) hasn't been better, I would have had thought the performance between qHD-->720P wouldn't be so drastic.
I guess the 720P assets are a great burden on the A220. Though I think your issues are mostly from poor Sense builds and bad GPU drivers this time, however it has always been a hog regardless of the hardware it's with. Would you happen to know what frequency the ICS roms were on that you tried? And whether they were debug/leak/test builds? -
Was the ICS from Verizon/HTC a finalized build? I havent heard anything regarding a official OTA push for the Rezound, although the phone is on HTC's upgrade list.
-
Thanks for the correction, it is indeed the 220. The build I used was the fifth iteration for the leak, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.
I'd like to see how the Xperia S/Ion performs with ICS before I finalize it in my head that the Adreno 220 has no business with 720p screens. -
400MHz OC Mali 400MP beats them all
The GSII actually has a ROM port from the HTC One X, and it seems to be really stable. -
Well the Mali 400 is OC'd in the GSIII and it beats the HOX I think, however the CPU of the GSII is inferior to the HOX.
Leaks are always buggy, slow, unstable, I have been using using Android since it came started on 1.0; the issues you have a pretty normal, your rez's performance will be better once there's a full build and the devs are able to improve the kernel(s). And don't get the Xperia S/Ion if you're thinking of upgrading because it has the same S3 cpu, 720P display. If you want to upgrade I suggest a One Series, Galaxy SIII, ascend D-Quad, or Vega S. -
Yup, I know, I sometimes OC mine, and it gives me a really considerable amount of boost. It does beat the HOX in GPU but not in CPU obviously
In bold : I kind of disagree... The ICS leaks for the GSII, initially were crappy. But starting from the 4th leak pre-official release, it becamse very, very good, but still not as good as, say, CM9. -
Most dual cores are good enough for general use anyway, the most intensive apps would be certain games, video player, and probably the browser. Things like the HOX are kinda overkill because the dual cores dont seem like they're fully pushed yet.
Sure all leaks are not bad, but leaks that are early test builds are normally sluggish and not consistent in their performance. -

Sounds like Verizon was like "Crap, we've been sellling Samsung phones w/out encrypted bootloaders...that's gotta stop!"
Another reminder why I cannot wait for my contract to be up..... -
-
True, but its still going to be a challenge for truly custom roms and stuff.
-
They'll survive, Devs have gotten around that issue for a long time on certain htc & Motorola devices...

Looking for some help. I'm runing my Samsung Captivate. All of a suddent my phone isn't picking up my 4GB SD card. Well it is but nothing on it. I plug the SD card into my computer and backup everything on it, but when I put it back in my phone, none of the photos show up in my gallery.
My phone is also giving me a "Low on space" message.
Internal Storage.
Total Space 1.85GB
Apps 408MB
Available 1.52GB
USB Storage
Total space: 13.03GB
Available: 10.37 GB
SD Card
Total Space: 3.69GB
Available: 3.22GB
EDIT: Now it's picking up the photos and all is good on that, but it's also giving me the "Low on space" message. Going to reboot and see if it still gives it. Sometimes I hate tech. -
Also one more pet peeve. Google+ on my Droid has created folders in my Picture Gallery that I cannot delete. Folders such as "Instant uploads," "Posts" and "Profile Photos" I'm trying to delete these but having no luck. Can't select and delete and delete as I get no delete option. Couldn't find them on the SD card through my computer. Any suggestions?? I even uninstalled Google+ and it seems to be doing it's own thing.
-
Try going to Settings>Applications>Gallery and clearing data.

Seems like a gamble. As it stands you're looking at a console that plays cellphone games. I know their idea is that it will open up Android development to full fledged console games, but that's by no means a definite.
-
Well since Im a big title kinda guy I dont think it offers much for me. Now put halo and MW games on it and Im sold.
Plus everything I have seen on that site seems to flop. ::cough digitizer pen for ipad:: -
That just suggests you've been backing the wrong horse(s).
I can't work out if I'm tempted to get one or not.
It's definitely a risk but, at the same time, it's not a horrendous amount provided I actually received the console - even if it never took off beyond the Play Store games, it'd still be pretty neat.
