BTW, the next CM10 nightly for the i777 is building right now. I'll post it in a bit.![]()

What's the difference between the RC version and Nightly? Also, you may go ahead and post it for mine too.

Okay so I finally got my Galaxy S Blaze 4G in...will Android automatically try to connect to wifi before 4G network?
-
RC is release candidate, something that is suitable for wide use and contains minimal, non-show stopper bugs. Nightly would be akin to beta, the latest iteration but is not proven to be stable or ready for wide use.
Yes, if Wifi is enabled, the phone will prefer it over cellular connectivity by default. -

^What TailGunner said... basically, before an RC release they halt new commits to mainline source and iron out 90% of remaining issues for a Release Candidate version. After RC versions are compiled for all mainline phones, normal commits are reviewed/accepted again. -

CM10 Nightly for i777. Compiled 8-1-2012.

So..my D3 has suddenly gotten into the habit of random rebooting. For those of you who know my phone woes, a rebooting Android phone is nothing new for me.
What IS new is the phone deciding to reset my wallpaper to stock at each reboot.
Oh Motorola... -
Holy crap, CM10 is amazing... 100% daily driver and 150% smoother than CM9... Jist wow. codeworx is the best

CM10 Nightly for the i777: Compiled 8.2.2012
cm-10-20120802-UNOFFICIAL-i777.zip -
Is there a way to backup all apps and settings so I can restore them on a newer ROM? I've been flashing a lot of ROMs lately and its a pain constantly redownloading the apps and whatnot. I would love to be able to restore later on with all my apps and widgets in the same place so I don't have to do anything. That possible? If so what is the best solution? Also, I can't wait for a new version of cm10 for my phone. Needs to be updated. Its not exactly a daily driver yet.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Aside from Titanium Backup, if you have complete ROM backups you can use Appextractor to extract apps/prefs and SMS's from backups.
Those are both ROOT apps though, and backing up/restoring SMS databases between Samsung ROM's and CyanogenMod don't work without issues. CM to CM works perfect though as does Samsung to Samsung. -
Yeah. I am rooted and have Ti backup. Would I backup up with Ti then restore with appextractor? It would be cm to cm so it should work.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nah, Titanium Backup will backup and restore apps and their app data (your in-app data/prefs).
If you make full ROM backups from CWM, you can use Appextractor to get info out of those backup packages. -
Well, my phone is what I believe you all call, "Bricked". It's pretty much stuck at the at&t splash screen when I start it up and stuck on the flashing charge icon when I put it on a USB.

Can you get into download mode? -
Try putting it in download mode and flashing it through Odin. There should be a guide on xda.

I tried variations of trying to get to download mode. Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help - xda-developers. Nothing.
-
If you can't get it into download mode, I have a JIG you can borrow. I have a feeling H.A.L. knows exactly how to fix it though
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2 -
I never tried a jig before, but sure, I'll take anything right now.
Work is going to be very hard. -
I can First Class it to you tomorrow, if H.A.L. doesn't have a solution. It shouldn't cost more than $1.50.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2 -
Seriously man, I can't thank you enough. I hope HAL does have a solution so you don't to go through all this trouble, same thing goes for HAL if I don't have something to come up with as well.

Thanks guys, but unfortunately some Samsung devices are like that. There are certain batches of Captivates that shipped without even a way to get into recovery, much less download mode. Some don't even respond to jigs, but those are rare.
If you've tried everything listed in that XDA guide you linked, there isn't another way aside from either using a jig, using UART mode (you have to have a buspirate) or do the Un-Brickable hardware mod from Adam Outler. $1.95 for the jig from Mr. Mischief is a great deal and it could come in handy later on since it works with all Samsung phones.
P.S. I have a batch # 1008 Captivate that I use as an MP3 player. It has no 3-button recovery and the only way I can get it into download mode (aside from using a jig) is "adb reboot download". So, I know how you feel. :/ Just don't worry about it or panic... I have a feeling that the jig should work fine for you. -
And just to add a small thing to that : Shobster, you can try going to download mode by pressing all the buttons, and while you hold them, connect to the USB port, with ODIN already ready to flash. It *may* recognize, and as soon as it does, press start. Quite a longshot this is, but worth a try.
-
@Mr. Mischief.
No need to send me that jig. I managed to make one and it worked.
I got my phone to download mode but I don't know where to go from there. There's like a ton of Odin stuff but I don't know where to start. -
^ I hope you get it running back soon. I am sure these guys will be able to help you. Anyways, I installed preview 3 of CM10 onto my note and so far it is MUCH more stable. GPS and sensors working well. No random FC's on apps. Very good so far.

Nice!
Here's an ODIN package for 2.3.5 for the Captivate. This will take your phone back to stock Gingerbread.
Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: SGH-I897_I897UCKK1_UC_ATT.rar
And a standalone ODIN 1.83 utility.
Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: Odin3 v1.83.rar
Make sure to NOT touch anything while it's flashing your phone. Lock your cat/dog/gerbil outside for 10-15 minutes.

My Meizu MX arrived today, it's pretty slick. I don't like the stock keyboard, and the speed test scores are also little low. My One S gets 12MB down on T-Mobile 4G, while the MX get 3MB.

I just discovered Google Drive today and find it awesome since I will be able to pull up documents anywhere through Android, but it's only 5GB (unless I pay 2.50$/mo for 25GB).
Are there any other cool/innovative Google/Android features such as this that I've been missing out on?
I'm somewhat of a noob when it comes to the capability of Android phones since I've only recently gotten a good handset that I will be able to do everything with.
Been doing alot of reading and I'm going to familiarize myself with mods/hacks/roms, which I have limited knowledge on - I take it the XDA forums are the best for that, eh? -
WOOHOO!
CM10 development has started for my phone
Too many bugs though still for me to use
But at least its in the works and should be stable soon!
-
That first link you sent me had a .rar file that needed a password.
EDIT: NVM, I just looked it up. -
Thanks everyone in this thread who helped get through this ordeal. You guys have no idea how thankful I am. My phone is back to "normal" and that's good enough for me.

On my S3 some apps love to spam "notices" so my led comes on like I have a new message and its like a game telling me to go buy something or groupon telling me I have a new deal in the area. Any way to force block notices from specific applications? I only want email and text message notifications.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
You can with CM. With regular Android or Samsung's software you can't specify anything... every notification will light up the LED.
Edit: Here's a screenshot. On CM9 and CM10 you'll find this under Settings-->Display-->Notification Light.
-
Oh man wish cm10 was coming to my phone soon

If "E3D" means Evo 3D, it just got ICS officially so that means that CM10 is very much possible... very soon. As long as HTC releases source. -
As far as I know, you can usually set notification preferences within each application. I have the LED disabled for Facebook and Twitter.
It would be nice to have one place to set custom notifications and colors-- LightFlow has worked well on many Android phones, but apparently the color codes for the US version of the GS3 are different and the dev is currently working on getting his app to work on non-rooted US GS3 phones. -
Nub question here. If I buy something from the Android Market, or whatever it's called now, and I want to put it on another Android device, say for my kids to use, will it let me, and/or will it balk if it finds it on more than one device? I really don't want to have to create an account for both my kids too.
-
You can indeed use your same Google Play account on your tablet and have paid apps on all your devices.
-
Hah! I was just about to ask this, the question has been in the back of my mind for a few weeks now. Thanks.
-
no worries.
I had to try it on my first paid app i bought a long while ago and was pleased to see that it worked.
-
ok - i must quickly try that duplicates and triplicates too

If T-Mobile/Samsung said there is Icecream Sandwich coming for my phone (Galaxy S Blaze 4G), will I need to reinstall the whole OS to update to 4.0 or is it just like a Windows update and install over Gingerbread?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
You can technically install it without losing anything but bluetooth sync profiles, but I wouldn't. Upgrading from Gingerbread to ICS is quite messy if you don't do a data wipe. That's why every phone that comes out with Gingerbread now should be chastised. Honeycomb on tablets and ICS on phones is the first version of Android that's easily (and cleanly) upgrade-able.
Upgrading from Gingerbread to ICS is like upgrading Windows XP to Windows 7. You can't do it right without dumping all the old crap. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
What about all the stuff on my phone right now? Is there a way to back them up if I were to wipe them? Sorry never had to do anything like this before, had a dumb phone for the last 7 years. My phone shipped with 2.3 from the factory, all the newer ones will come with Icecream Sandwich.. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yea, you can get backup apps from the Play Store... -
I'm finally about to give Verizon the finger and honestly i'm so ing excited. I plan on switching to T-Mobile's monthly 4G plan (100 minutes and 5 GB of data) for 30 bucks a month. The phone I plan to use?
Yes by Android standards it's ancient and a step downward. But it's affordable with good examples going for 150 bucks all day every day. That and it's a Google Experience device so even if ICS isn't unofficially available it'll run well on what it's on. Also, that keyboard.
Might try a HTC MyTouch 4G Slide as well if i can get that for a decent price.
It's far better than paying out the for Verizon...my bill will be far less than the 100+ bucks i pay per month now. Just gotta save up...hopefully in a month or two.
Any other t-mobile handsets that can be had for around 100-150 bucks that i should consider.
EDIT: i copy and pasted from another forum and forgot about the word filter haha -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
And here I was thinking you were talking about the investment firm...
Nice choice though. The G2 is a SOLID device. It's also one of the few HTC's that I really appreciate the design of. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Can't you just buy your own sim card phone and just activate it on T-Mobile?
-
I'm on Verizon now so I need a phone anyway. The 30 dollar plan is non contract so I'll buy a handset from eBay.
lol.
Yeah I also like the g2 design. Only issues i just realized: what to do with the "extra" line that'll be around once i break off my family plan? I initially thought I'd let my brother have the D3 but he'd have to take my phone number so he'd keep unlimited data.
My parents (who'd take over the family plan for me....they already pay their share of it at the moment) would veto any move that would put him on a tiered/metered plan..and rightfully so to avoid any overages due to him forgetting to turn on wi-fi, etc.
That would leave one dumbphone line just hanging...i dont recall if one can close a line early w/out etf...probably not and that they'd have to pay for each month.
I also didnt think about porting my number and all that...idealy I'd want to keep my number but if im giving it to my brother that becomes impossible. :/
Thougts?
