Will someone buy my 350Z wheels so I can order my Nexus 4? :|
Anyone have any battery life figures of real world usage? I mostly just run Steam app and Facebook/email surf, I don't really game. It's one thing reading reviews vs someone actually owning it.

I'm getting about 3 hours of screen time on 3G, and 4-4.5 on WiFi.
-
Few random things.
Firstly, anyone recommend an app for locking other apps on a device?
The more I use my work phone and tablet, the more I worry about some of the personal stuff on there being accessed by other people.
Secondly, any recommendations for an improved contacts app?
As well as my personal contacts which are synced from my Google account, I have my work contacts synced with my Samsung account but I want an easy way to further sub-divide them 4 groups, with each group having it's own list that I can swipe between - no going into options and selecting which contacts to view or having everyone in one big list and then having to navigate between groups.
Does that make sense? -

3 hours??? Well I use my phone sparingly, and with constant Email checking and Steam chatting the whole day since 11 am til 10 pm I still have ~47%. -
Three hours is better than I get. Maybe I'll pick one up after a couple paychecks from my new job

Does LG have a program as godlike as Odin to flash?
-
The Nexus 4 is already on stock Android. What's there to flash?
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I meant like custom roms, etc. LG's stock software kinda stinks, not that it's really bloated, but I would like a stock like image, without the bloat.. -
The Nexus 4 doesn't run LG software of any kind. It runs 100% pure, untouched Android.
-
But...............it's a Nexus device, there is no bloat. That's the whole point of it...................You get the same stock image as the N7, N10 and GN.

Galaxy Nexus had carrier bloat, I think on Verizon. -
That Nexus and the Sprint Nexus were a little different. All CDMA Android phones have bloat(AFAIK).
The GSM Nexus phones are completely stock Android. Not even one bloatware app. Even the T-Mobile Nexus 4 doesn't have any bloatware. -
The only Verizon app preloaded on the Gnex is MyVerizon Mobile. It's actually not a bad app especially for those users with tiered plans.

What email spam filter do you guys recommend?

Gmail.

*reported for spam. lolz. -
In my experiences both Gmail and Yahoo do a good job of filtering spam and have no issues on my desktop or laptop. It just on my android, not having a spam filter and having to delete each and every one is a hassle. I was told if I set to a POP account and go to settings and have it set to 'do not download spam', this may help. But I prefer IMAP for other reasons and I want to see my spam in case a new clients email might happen to get filtered into this folder. No app for this? It's a personal email account.

What mail app are you using on your phone? Gmail for Android uses the same filtering you get online. If you're using the Mail app, then... can't really help you there. If you're using the Mail app with a non-Gmail address, then I don't believe there are any kind of spam filtering in the Mail app. You may have to use a third party mail app from the Play Store.
What you could do is have Gmail fetch your email from other accounts via POP or IMAP, then just have Gmail filter them all. -
I'll try receiving my personal account through Gmail and see if it improves. Using Yahoo now.
Edit: Too much rep given in the last 24 but you shall receive. -
AT&T and T-Mobile USA people, the Oppo Find 5 will be announced next week for $499 unlocked and off-contract. It's basically a GSM Droid DNA but with a larger 2500 MaH battery, no LTE and no MicroSD card slot unfortunately.

Minus 1080p worth getting over Nexus 4? 2500 mAH battery looks nice.. -
Good question. At this point no one has seen or talked about the Android installation; all we know is that it is running Jelly Bean 4.1.2. If it has some sort of skin, then it may not be up to everyone's taste pending on how well it looks and perform. If it runs stock Android and the root/bootloader unlock is fairly straightforward, it could be a hit. The only thing that would deter me is the lack of a MicroSD card slot.

Google Now can now identify music for you. Just ask it "What song is this" and let it listen for about 3-5 seconds. It's been flawless for me so far. Gets it every time.
-
doesn't catch my obscure stuff, but neither does soundhound, so pretty good.

I tested with Broadcast 2000, Amos Lee, A.A. Bondy and The Servant.
It even got "Connective Mario" by Giuseppe Fonti. Pretty impressive, IMHO. LOL. -
Won't catch these:

or anything on those albums, as far as I could tell.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -

I think their music detection is tied into their YouTube backend... if YouTube doesn't recognize it, Google Now won't.
-
yeah, probably. pretty cool though, it's much faster than soundhound. I'll probably use the google play for that stuff now.
-
I can't believe I just downgraded from Jelly Bean to ICS on purpose....
I'm not sure what is so great about Jelly Bean.....

Project Butter. I'd have stayed on JB for the refinement boost Butter provides alone. Although I do hear people say that the speed difference on devices other than the Nexus line isn't as "night and day" as those devices. Maybe a lack of optimization on other OEM's part? Or, perhaps, those other handsets are just more powerful.

Eh I went from CM10 on my phone back to a modified stock ICS ROM, yeah it's not "as" smooth, but my phone was coming from 2.3 and TBH 4.1 it actually felt slower. -
Verizon's hamhanded approach to update approval is really starting to irritate me. I want Group messaging that works. It's a feature in 4.2. 4.2 is released, but I can't have it because Verizon can't get out of their own way to approve it. I don't want to root and flash a 3rd party ROM because I had nothing but trouble last time I did it.
-
Welcome to life on "big red!"
They're notoriously slow for updates, awful.
-

Some Galaxy S II just got 4.0 update, and it's been out a year. My phone just had had 4.0 update a few months ago. I can't believe OEMs still sell mid/high end phones with 2.3, just awful. -
As far as I know, none of the mid-range or high-end phones are coming loaded with 2.3. The Galaxy S II is a last gen phone, which is why it's not getting updates very quickly.
-
And the GSII already has Jelly Bean. Not official yet but leaked.
-
I've been on Verizon for a long time, and I know they're slow on updates, but I expected that buying a Nexus device would entitle me to at least reasonable update time frames. Not 3 months or more. My Nexus is 3 updates behind at this point.
-
Ice Cream sandwich came out while the GSII was a high end phone. only a couple months after release here in the states. and it took them until it was a last gen phone to get the update
-
All of a sudden my razr maxx hd is getting pretty warm and going through battery life way to fast......something is keeping it awake all the time....
-

Not the T-Mobile variant, they are always slow with OTA updates. -
Go to Settings > Battery and see what are on top of the list.

Anyone know if/when that Sony C660x Nexus phone is gonna come out?
-
Does that persist after a reboot?
-
No confirmation date much less an official announcement, so we may not get any details until CES 2013 at the earliest. Actual launch date, if the Xperia X10 serves as an indication, would probably be around April/May 2013. The latest rumor on it is that it could be using the Samsung Exynos 5 quad core processor and some other near outlandish specs:
Sony Yuga tipped with a glass chassis again, Sony to use Samsung Exynos processor for a 2013 flagship
Definitely take everything, especially the 128 GB internal storage, with a grain of salt. It's available, but I just don't think it's cheap enough for mass production level of mobile devices just yet. -

My dream phone.
Sony Ericsson with an Exynos SoC.
It will be glorious.

i'm liking that device more and more...

That's what a contract is for.

Sony Ericsson is actually pretty decent with their pricing.
