    I think I'll try it!
Once I get some free time (more than likely this Monday) I'm gonna give it a shot!
    Thanks!

    NP! :)

You may or may not want to also place a different radio in the updates folder. Depends on which one works best for you... The one in it is UBJV6.

Only 4 hours and you're 722 songs in? Nice. Mine took about a week... but I had it limited to 50kbps.

Does anyone have any good alternatives for dropbox? I was going to try sugarsync (5gb free), but after looking at some reviews, their android app sucks apparently.

Why would you switch from Dropbox...I assume the privacy policy changes, but just wondering.

DropBox's android app isn't terribly good either, I use it mainly for uploads though.

There's Windows Live SkyDrive. 50 GB of space for free is amazing, but there's stupid restrictions like file size and no good mobile integration just yet.

Well, it's been awhile since I've been around. Took me forever to try and catch back up!

I just received my new HTC Evo 4g! Pretty excited. First nice android phone I've had so far. Ended up using a family member's upgrade, since they wanted my Optimus S. (Easy trade decision for me...)

Can't wait to get it swapped to my line and start exploring the numerous ROMs for it. :)

Size is the only reason. 2/2.25gb is not enough, but I might be forced to using it since it does look like the best option.

To anyone with the Motorola DROID 1 and CM7, do you use an undervolted kernel or Milestone Overclock (app)? I'm on the stock CM 7.1.0 RC1 and it seems to consume quite a bit of power (more than my previous BB 0.6.2.1 but then again I ran the undervolted/overclocked kernel). I seem to be unable to load the 1.4.8 tar.gz file for Milestone Overclock. One thing that seems to help speed up responsiveness of the (slow) DROID is:

    Ahah, Ok I see.
What about the "KF1 Gingerbread" will it work on my I9000 even though it has been made for the captivate? Or should I use the i9000 version of the 2.3.4?

KF1 is specifically for the Captivate... and I would really advise against flashing bootloaders. A failed bootloader flash is a permabrick, and when flashing a whole ROM like KF1 it includes a bootloader.

All the ROM's I make are i9000 based, because Captivate base isn't as up-to-date. To flash my JVP 2.3.4, you would do it just like you do for the i9000. You wouldn't have to flash KF1 or anything.

How can I fix it? Should I re install the stock firmware?

    EDIT:
[sigh] Relieved, I did not break my phone! Re flashed to the stock firmware and now it's working.

Alright, starting from a fresh install, what are the steps I should follow to install your ROM?
    1-Root
    2-Flash new kernel
    3-Flash new ROM
    Is that accurate?

If you want to flash to stock for a bit, I can upload you a specific i9000m installer package. :) Just let me know what radio you want in it...

    EDIT: N/M Here's one... http://ge.tt/9fz4nr5

That's the JVP radio and Hardcore's SpeedMod K15H-T23, with all the other i9000 stuff baked in. :) Just flash that from ClockworkMod.

2-Flash the kernel you linked me w/ clockworkmod
    3-Flash JVP v2.0
I don't want to mess up again :p

    Flash stock...
Place the zip I linked to on your internal SD...
Then flash this kernel, and boot into recovery... [KERNEL] SpeedMod Gingerbread [K15H-T23 EXT4 CWM STABLE] - xda-developers
Flash the package I linked to up there. That's the whole ROM, personalized for you. :)
    Done! Enjoy Gingerbread!

Oh no... This is bad  :(

Guess I will only buy apps from the PC... Is it possible btw? To purchase apps from the android market from the PC and the download them to the phone?

If that's possible, I have nothing to worry about.

But the problem is still hidden : how will we know if X app is infected or not? Solution : either DL the apps to the PC and scan them with your AV, or convince AV makers to make an Android version.

Downloading the apps onto the PC won't do any good unless/until AV providers include signatures for android virii in their products.

There are several AV applications for Android, just like there were for Windows Phone Classic, Symbian, and Blackberry.

Only downloading apps that are in the market, CAREFULLY reading the permissions prompt before installing the app (Does this "super fun fish widget" really need access to my contacts list?" for example.
), and reading the description of the app carefully is the best way to protect yourself from malware.

The malware thing isn't new to mobile. Malware exists for Symbian and Blackberry and Windows Phone Classic. It's all about being a responsible user.

Well, for example, Norton Anti-virus has the #1 virus scanner, so maybe these trojans and viruses show the same characteristics and it'll detect the virus... We don't know yet how this will develop. Who knows, even Google may develop their own AV tool to scan stuff that is uploaded to the Market.

Can you please also tell another example of how to be a careful user? I know how to be on the PC, but this is going tk be my first smartphone.... I wanted to purchase ADWLauncher as soon as I get my Arc, now I don't know if it's safe...

The characteristics of malware on phones and PC's differ....because the attack surfaces are different + the intentions can be different.

We already know how this will develop...as it has developed. There are several legitimate antimalware applications in the Market:

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.symantec.mobilesecurity&feature=search_result - Symantec

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout&feature=search_result - Lookout

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.antivirus - AVG Antivirus

All three of those are from respected security firms. Lookout is legendary in the Android space, and AVG and Norton go without saying in terms of overall expertise in the malware prevention sector.

According to the Android Market agreement, it is forbidden to offer malicious apps in the market, although that does happen in several high profile cases. Android Market Business and Program Policies

Google does not currently scan developer uploads for malware, I believe. Hal or Step, correct me if I'm wrong please. Amazon Appstore does as part of the app approval process, so if you were really that fearful, you can install apps through Amazon.

ADW is perfectly safe and is a very well known and trusted application in the Android community. The best way to be safe is to use common sense:

If an app looks too cheap than what you would expect (or know) it to cost (outside of the free app of the day over at Amazon) or is available "elsewhere at a very very very steep discount" then chances are it's probably a trap.

Read the permissions screen carefully for each app you install, don't just "tap tap tap" to get the program installed.

Consider a security solution like the 3 mentioned above if you want added peace of mind....they don't replace the first two rules above, but complement it.

Keep essential apps like Flash and Adobe Reader up to date. Just like it's important to keep those two apps up to date on your PC, it's essential to do the same for them on your phone, as oftentimes they suffer from security holes like their big brothers.

Wow. It's about time they use something besides Qualcomm chipsets... I hope. Qualcomm offers subpar performance for the price, compared to NVIDIA/TI chipsets. Much weaker, actually. If Qualcomm would drop the Adreno graphics and add something like PowerVR or Mali, I would have no qualms... Adreno is their weak point.

Give me those specs with at least 2GB of local app storage and there might be world peace in SE's future.

Wow, sinply WOW! The form factor is kind of meh though... Xperia Arc or Neo + those specs = EPIC!

@booboo Thanks a lot! I'll keep that in mind :)

I'll use Symantec. I have it for my PC ( Norton 360 v5 ) and it's just amazing!

Norton has always seemed to be more of a virus to me than a virus killer. AVG for my phone when I get it.

On second thoughts, qHD is a disappointment with the rumours that the next Nexus handset will have a 720p sAMOLED panel...
But a 2500mAh battery would be awesome! :D

As for viruses, I still think that common sense is all you need for now.
