It feels empty when the battery is out of it, it's ridiculous.
The Sensation is missing something IMO.
That should be untouched - I just updated the software on my handset last night, I haven't modded it at all before extracting it and uploading it.

In terms of design, nothing tops the Arc and is easily the best single core. In terms of hardware and when battleling with Dual cores, the SGS2 noms it
-
ODIN will be used to flash all types of ROMs and will be used to root, correct?
I see, thank you both!
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Interesting. So it has dependencies. It shouldn't, but it does. Try decompiling it through APK Manager with the dependencies option.
Flash ROM's, yes. To root, if you flash an insecure kernel through it... or a pre-rooted ROM.
ODIN is just a flashing utility. It works on the most basic of levels... bootloader level. -
All this talk of root and flashing roms gave me the itch to do the same.
Time to throw CM7 back on my DHD to see whats new.
Apparently I have missed over 80 nightlies.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
80?!?! Bad Android Enthusiast! -
Sorry, I went to try something else new that is Sense 3.0.
*runs away*
(Nandroid is still running...zzzzzzzz) -
Haha!
CM7 is just stock Android, why people say it's better than TW4 or Timescape?
So that rooting method flashes an insecure kernel? Mmmm... I'll find another way to root.
Also, is there a Timescape UI used on the Arc port to the GS2? I really like that UI
-
You will find out soon enough, young padawan.
-
You really shouldn't make claims about things you don't know anything about. It is fine to ask questions, but making bold, incorrect statements like this as if you are an authority on the subject is pretty irritating.
-
The problem with that is I have no idea other apks I need for the dependencies
-
*sigh* I've read and informed myself about it. It was advertised and is, as being the "cleanest android experience". So yeah.
I shall, I shall...
I've seen and read about it, it looks like an extremely well updated and optimized OS without factory added stuff.
-
Clearly you have not done enough reading if your summary is that it is "just stock android." A lot of development has/ and is still going into CM7, it is kind of a slap to the face to the developers if you just call it stock android... when it really is much more than that.
-
Google Music is awesome
-
I said that way because those were the first words related to the matter in place that came to my head. I respect greatly the dev's that have put lots of hours of their life to that OS to deliver the best experience.
-
Anyone using Launcher Pro Plus? My rom adventure went wayward to now I am officially back on CM7.
Also, for go Launcher users, how do you find it?
-
I have been using launcher pro+ and cm7 for a few months now, and absolutely love the combination. I really like the included widgets with LP+, allows me to create a pretty unified looking set of homescreens.
-
You need to try go Launcher EX. It feels and runs better has more options in terms of customizability and effect options. I'm using it with the honeycomb theme. Pretty awesome!
-
I used to swear by LP+ but the app drawer categories system in ADW and it's spin-offs is just too good.
-
ADW EX is my favorite. The effects EX has are pretty cool.
I used Launcher Pro Plus for awhile and they offer alot of the same effects too, but the settings/homescreen backup never works right while ADW's does. So i use ADW
-
I'm liking Go Launcher a lot more than Launcher Pro or ADW. I like how idk...integrated the experience is...for things like downloading themes, setting up other Go programs/widgets, etc. The menu for customizing how it operates seems to be better laid out as well.
In other news...my phone kept vibrating during an incoming phone call, and freezing the screen....again. I really gotta figure out what's up with that... -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Sounds like a data corruption issue or a loose connector inside the phone, from this and other things you've described... Does it happen often when you open/close the slider? -
On phone calls I've never opened the slider. When the freezes occur I just slide the "slide to answer" thing over. Then part of that thing freezes on screen and I never get to see my in call controls like speakerphone, end call, merge, etc. I just see part of the slider and the name and photo of the contact...all the while the phone is vibrating. I can hear and answer the person somewhat ok over the vibration, but the battery drains heavily during these events. I also have to rely on the other person to hang up...when they do..usually the force close dialog box is up telling me that the phone app hasn't responded.
The getting super warm while locked and then sort of rebooting thing is different, is not phone call dependant, and also causes loads of battery drain.
Both have happened regardless of ROM...so perhaps it's my choice of kernel?
Before a ROM install I wipe data, cache and dalvik cache 3x each ....so it can't possibly be leftover data.
For what it's worth both things never happened on stock Froyo with the stock 600 Mhz kernal...so maybe it's a Gingerbread thing....but others are running it just fine so IDK. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Very interesting.
Motorola is officially terminating support with Froyo, so no Gingerbread source will be released. So that tells me that devs are having to write their own kernel source. That's a very difficult task. For example, Samsung has done some very dirty things with the RIL on the Galaxy S, completely closing out the dev community. We tried to rewrite it, but it never worked, and only caused a massive amount of FC's.
I'm guessing that the RIL is the issue here... RIL issues are systemic. You can have sleep issues, sensor issues, phone issues (call and standby related)... and many more. Basically it's the way the radio firmware interacts with the kernel and the modules used when compiling the kernel. Gingerbread changed somewhat in that area, and Froyo source isn't 100% compatible.
Could you try other kernels or basebands and see if that's the issue? -
I read somewhere that many D1 devs are using froyo kernals with their gingerbread rom's, So what you've said would make sense. In any case I'm using Peter Alfonso's 1.2 ghz oc'd and low voltage kernal.
I've fixed permissions (a suggestion from AHL) and shall see how it goes. For what its worth I was able to get a call during the fix permissions process and it worked like it supposed to. This was before the recommended reboot though so it could just be because the issue is random.
If that doesn't solve it, ill flash a new kernel.
Thanks for the advice and insight. Its appreciated believe me.
I might also give this a go: Modified TouchWiz 4 Launcher For ALL Android Devices | xda-developers -
Is it OK that I lost 14% of my battery overnight? :S While locked/idle...
-
That's it? Jeeze, if I left my Intercept unplugged overnight, it would be dead before I woke up.
-
Actually, anything over 13.5% battery drain overnight can either cause the phone to self destruct, or give the owner of the device cancer. You should ship your GS2 over to me just to be safe
-
That's a littlr bit of an overkill IMO...
Will do!
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Lols... The GS2 has TW4 by default. If you want to get rid of it completely, download a different launcher and delete TouchWizLauncher.apk from your /system/app folder.
IDK? From what I've read about Mastershroom's phone, it's a blessing that it doesn't try to viciously eat his ear off in the middle of a call. Possessed, that phone is... -
I don't want to get rid of TW4, I like it a lot... :/ ( After Go launcher EX + honeycomb theme )
But what I'm installing is TW Launcher 4.5... I tried getting TW4Launcher.apk to UsbStorage, and then with easy installer to install the apk, but then at the end it says "Application not installed", with a Green check... It be trollin' me.
I'll try TW4 Manager.apk, but it requires a root...
EDIT : lol fail, I needed TW4 Manager to update it...
EDIT 2 : After DL'ing latest version, and as soon as I get "Applying update" it stops and then I get this error message :
Perhaps because it requires a root and the busybox?
Will I really need to delete TouchWizLauncher.apk in order to install this TW4.5 version?
Mmm, can't find system folder, and according to Master, I'll need to root. Darn it. -
It hasn't tried to eat me yet.
*knock on wood*
But sometimes it will start ringing, and I'll be unable to answer; the screen will either stay on whatever app was open or the homescreen, or it will go black, but the answer/reject sliders never show up, and the physical send button will not respond, causing me to miss calls. -
You do realize your running the latest version of TouchWiz, it's just that this version is modded, hence the 4.5...
-
Yessir, I know! But that modded version seems to be more appealing.
-
I literally lol'd
Phistacio.. its great that you are excited about your phone. But it seems like you need to just step away from the computer for a bit and just relax. Enjoy the phone... it is still an outstanding phone in stock form. This thread has turned into the Phistacio question thread.... just step away for a little bit and enjoy your device. -
lol, I guess you're right
The only reason I would need to root is pretty much to install custom ROM's. I mean, why do I need a lag fix when I don't have lag?
Also, I post from my GS2, soooo....
-
I had one random reboot when I was letting my gps give me directions and pandora was running, Beyond that, all my received phone calls went through so that's good.
I've installed the touchwiz 4 launcher and it's slick, I can't get the samsung widgets working though, which is a shame. :/ -
Bah, nevermind.
-
I give up. -
^ LMAO
Gif saved .
-
Nevermind, it's the droid. I think droid uses arm v7 arch therefore it's supported by TW4.5.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yep. Any modern smartphone CPU is ARM7.
(modern being Cortex A8+) -
731 on Vellamo @ 1.2GHz, CM7 nightly 151 (2.3.5).
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Ramp it up Johnny! Let's see 1.5GHz!
My GS2 gets about 1042 at stock... I was actually kinda shocked because my Captivate can get right on up there... 1142 @ 1.4GHz.
Another thing, anyone notice that the GS2 isn't listed in Vellamo? It's score is too high to show.
-
If my phone goes up in fames I am going to blame you.
EDIT1: 816 @ 1.766GHz
EDIT2: Not getting any higher.
818 @ 2GHz Pretty sure the GPU is hindering it...
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
At 1.2GHz you were scoring the same as most of the dual-core Sensation users. It's also interesting that yours plateaus at around 815-820. -
Yeah, the rendering portion of the result looked consistently low. Similar to that of the MT4G (same hardware).
-
Got 707 on Vellamo for my Galaxy S/Vibrant. OC @ 1.2Ghz on Interactive governor.
Seems low D: ill have to try a higher OC one day with it.
-
912 points @ 1.2GHz stock
Was on a H+ network. I'll re do the test when I get home if the internet speed is influential. ( on a wifi network with good speeds )
-
Il run a benchie once i recharged my Galaxy S 2 and upgraded the Cyanogen Nightly.
One thing i found out using Cyanogen is that it runs as hot as stock 2.3.3 samsung rom.
Using the leaked 2.3.4 roms the extra heat was gone.
(But Zeam Launcher + AOSP > TouchWiz 4.5)
