I've got a workable CM7 state on my Atrix... finally. It's still buggy though.

BUT... (and this is a big one)

Want to know how much Blur weighs this thing down? I've been running CM7 for 1day 6hours and 44minutes and I'm just now at 61% battery life left.

    A-freaking-mazing. :spinny:

With a proper CM7 build this will EASILY be a device with 2+ day battery life. Plus, I'm looking at Voodoo Sound for the WM8903.

21h 28m on battery with WiFi N on and GPS with 4% left! :D Not idle, only idle for 10h, and before that I was browsing the forums, twitter, youtube ( flash ) with, as I said, WiFi N! This new battery is really great.

Another thing I've noticed is that it doesn't overheat! :D

    @HAL

Do you notice any black bar artifacting when vieweing grey stuff? Because when I view grey stuff, I see these black vertical lines on the screen... Really weird... And rainbow artifacting too, btw.

Could you be more specific about the rainbow artifacting?

About the grays, that's a known issue with AMOLED displays. They have trouble producing grayscale. It also has to do with Samsung's AMOLED panel driver's power saving feature... something about it not refreshing the pixels as much saves battery life. You can toggle the feature in the display settings, but it doesn't make much difference. It's hardcoded into the AMOLED panel driver in the kernel module.

But it's worth it when in comparison to Xperia Arc's display, the colours are just so sexy

It's like... It's a rainbow. For example, when you open skype. The bues aren't always blue, there seems to have this weird rainbow-ish line ( horizontally ).

I would love to see a picture of that...

If you're talking about it happening in sunlight, I've seen that before... it's light reflecting off the subpixel grid.

If it's doing it indoors and often, get a replacement. I'm pretty sure that's a panel defect.

    Ah.

Now that I look at it closer, it's exactly the same as with grey : but this time, these are horizontal lines with color changing inbetween. It's Skype's fault then right? I just did a screen test, and all colors seems to be fine

Camera crashed again at a birthday party and started to not save photos...luckily a reboot fixed it, but while the camera hung it super sucked down my battery.

I might be flashing a new kernel....

Don't post in this thread much, but good weekend for the Motorola Photon. First a method to get root without the need of the $100 dock, then the bootloader gets unlocked. :D

Wow. VERY good weekend indeed! How did the bootloader get unlocked? I haven't been following the Photon...

EDIT: Finally got myself an Infuse. I've had one from work for a while, but I liked it so much... It's hard to imagine a better screen than the GS2, but watching Netflix on the Infuse is AMAZING. Plus it's like a hybrid tablet phone. And before anyone says anything, I got rid of my Captivate's before getting this one. I have an addiction, I know.

Similar to the Atrix, from what I can see, haven't paid any attention to it, but the unlock is also titled Pudding. I think one of the devs had been receiving leaked sbf files. Just flash the sbf and unlock in fastboot.

Surprised that no one has posted this yet: Google acquiring Motorola Mobility -- Engadget

I'm stunned, but it makes sense. Google needs those patents Moto has.

Hopefully this will mean more devices like the OG Droid. Designed in lockstep and with great influence by Google, it's still compelling 2 years later.

It's rumored to be dropping on the next Nexus by Oct. So that would put it in OEM updates by Dec-Feb... depending on how motivated the OEM is to pushing updates. Samsung has been very good with Gingerbread so far. I'd say the GS2 should get it in mid-late Jan if it is indeed rolled out in Oct.

Meanwhile, I've just been looking around... the Desire HD models go for more on eBay than the EVO 3D does!

CDMA devices will always be behind GSM devices.

On a sidenote though, Samsung has completely remedied the GPS issues with the Galaxy S... on the new devices anyway.

Out of the ones I've tested, 4 were manufactured in July. All 4 got 8/8 satellites within 16 seconds... INDOORS. I would say that qualifies as fixed. Sad that it took this long. Every other model I've tried has given me the finger indoors.

The next Nexus handset won't be based on an OMAP4440.
Got chatting to a a TI Software Engineer at work, he said it looks like it's shaping up to be something else it uses - if only because 4 has unlucky connotations in some cultures and they may substitute it for something that's pretty much the same spec-wise but named differently.

He also said that nothing on the market so far will prepare us for what's coming with the OMAP 5 series chips, they're such a big leap forward from all the current generation of chips.

Some event with Samsung of the 29th, the invite has a big II at the bottom. Could it be announcing release date? Title is misleading.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Launching in the U.S on August 29 | Samsung Galaxy S 2

EDIT: I've also seen RUMORS that the device will release September 2nd on AT&T. of course the source is very shady so this tasty bit if info should be taken with... a lot of salt.

On AT&T&T-Mobile, phones launch with _all_ bands. :p

Seriously though, it should. As much as even _I_ don't like it, T-Mobile is likely to be absorbed into AT&T, making AT&T the Nexus launch partner in the US.

Sure you can... but the free phones aren't worth anything really. Around the $10-30 dollar mark you get some really good deals, especially on the refurbs. I think most of the phones I've had have been refurbs and they're all just like new out of the box. Just don't get the devices with "Cosmetic Blemishes". Those will have scratches and possibly more.

Motorola Photon 4G vs. Evo 3D? Any opinions?

Off the top of my head Im guessing the Photon's Tegra 2 Cortex A9 is better than the Evo's MSM8660 (being A8) and the Tegra being superior over the Adreno.

How do they fare on a CPU and GPU level against each other in everyone elses opinion? Thanks in advance :D

We are 10 days away from the US Samsung event where they are announcing the release date for the Galaxy SII. Just wait it out!

If you really can't though, I would pick the Photon over the Evo 3d. IMO the device has much better build quality, and the bootloader was unlocked (normally encrypted bootloader makes me never recommend moto). Also, in general Motorola (or any other hardware company really) tends to put better quality components such as loudspeaker, microphone and cameras compared to HTC.

Actually, if it weren't for the CPU cores, the Adreno 220 would spank the Tegra 2 GeForce ULP. As it is though, the T2 has more bus bandwidth and more raw CPU power. The only thing Qualcomm has going with the MSM8660 is that they're Scorpion cores are floating point BEASTS and that their cores are asynchronous.

If what I've heard about one of the US bound GS2 models containing a Qualcomm APQ8060, expect it to put up some mighty resistance to Exynos. APQ8060 is a tablet reference, with more bus bandwidth, enhanced Scorpion cores, and a GPU clock frequency bump. I would expect it to get, at the very least, 3500+ in Quadrant... if not more... all on stock software. The APQ8060 is also very easily overclocked to 1.5GHz+ and comes with no WWAN module. The "no WWAN module" is the sign that Samsung will use it. Samsung likes to pair their own baseband configurations with things... usually Infineon.

I get 3700-3800 @ everything stock on quadrant

The bootloader is unlocked? Never checked i just assumed it wasnt.

Generally I've never liked Motorola, and Im surprised Im even considering one.

I am trying to wait :D It just depends how long until one becomes actually available on Sprint  And with the Evo 3D and Photon, they might want to wait before introducing another new phone to the lineup.

Hmm ok, but as it is the Photon's Tegra 2 is better then the Evo 3D in general? And the GS2 is better than Tegra 2?

Is there a way to calibrate ny battery without a root? I had 40% on my new battery ( 2430MAh ), I turn off the phone, and gets to 10% for no reason

I guess I'll change to the OEM battery meanwhile.
