US unlocked is being treated like the developer edition so it gets updates before any other build but yes, that's generally how it went - GPe, developer, US carriers, WWE.

It's a shame that AT&T decided not to carry the 10.

btw. did both of you guys get the Silver one ?

Because the Carbon Grey is very difficult to find. At least that what HTC told me. They are having stock shortage for the dark one.

This phone's battery is like a beast. I am using it non-stop all day and it's been 10 hours since I woke up and charged it, still @ 60%

I got the Carbon Grey FTW. IMO, a phone should always be black. period, just like the ancient days when we used to have mobile phones with Antennas:

T-Mobile doesn't carry the carbon grey so I have glacial silver which doesn't bother me since its in a case anyway.

Lol I wish I was getting that battery but I also noticed Facebook was causing massive wakelocks so I just froze it, we will see what that does.

Here is how I set my phone

All background refresh off except for whatsapp / Vyber

All apps set to always optimize using Doze

mind you, this battery life I am getting is WITH the VPN.AC on and connected to the US/Dallas server . If I turn that off, the battery would last forever.

PS: NFC = Off. Bluetooth = Off. Wifi = ON. Cell Signal = 4G

WiFi bug? But we have the same phone so we have the same bug. We even have the same display.

I am not using Twitter though, I use a Twitter client called Fenix

We aren't sure but the Wi-Fi bug may be related to how S-OFF was obtained so it may not affect you. Since I wanted to be able to remove any sign I modded my phone, I chose to S-OFF with the Bootloader locked since S-OFF trumps the lock anyway and the developers said if you did S-OFF unlocked, you might never be able to get it set back to locked but the majority of people reporting the Wi-Fi bug are S-OFF locked.

Of course, a lot of people who did not do S-OFF may not even know if it affects them or not.

Click on the FILTER BY on the top left, then choose ALL APPS

now select each app and ensure it is on OPTIMIZE

Also, my screen brightness is @50%

Yeah everything is on optimize and my brightness is at like 20%

HTC devices have two unlock modes, bootloader and security. Bootloader is what you need for custom ROMs and root, security off lets you do literally anything you want with your device. Turning device security off is basically the only way you can hard brick an HTC phone since it allows you to flash things you could not otherwise touch (the radio for example, not to mention it allows you to flash unsigned firmware including the Bootloader itself). It is the reason I was able to convert my T-Mobile version to a full US unlocked version though because I physically changed the device ID and flashed the US unlocked full ROM (not just the ROM but the whole package including the firmware).

Here is an image that shows you that I am suffering from the bug. The suspend and resume... It's constantly sleeping and waking Wi-Fi.

    Screenshot_20160609-142453.png

That's a big problem. You need root to be able to check and see if it's affecting you or not but with your battery life I would bet it is not.

really strange, I would've though all the phones would have the same bug. And I am even running a much older firmware than you. But judging my battery life, it's one of the best I have had on any phones.

I cannot thank you enough for tempting me and making me buy this device. This is like the Clevo of Mobile phones.

Well I went through my log and I may not actually have the bug... The reset only happened a few times and I don't know if kernel messages get dumped when rebooted but considering the PON messages in there, I'm willing to bet it only gets dumped after a certain size gets hit. There were a ton of them in the beginning but not so much since I updated to the new kernel source yesterday.

If HTC was to be compared, Clevo would be a good way to put it. Decent out of the box but fully modable to be even better. Only device on the market with so much control.

I know you don't like videos but I thought you might enjoy this one. I had high hopes for the G5 after hearing good things about the G4 back in the day but never buying it...

This was the phone I was contemplating to buy before you convinced me to get the HTC 10:

The new mandate from Google helps a lot, we now get *monthly* updates - security and bug fix - Google is suggesting they will penalize carriers / vendors that don't issue at least security updates monthly.

I've already gotten 2 monthly updates through ATT for the Samsung S7 Edge, not including all the updates I got out of the box.

    Battery saving tips for @Ethrem:

1- Settings > Sound & Notification > Uncheck "Vibrate on touch"

2- Settings > Sound & Notification > Flash LED for notifications = When screen is off

3- Settings > Language & Keyboard > Touchpal - HTC Version > General Settings > Keypress Vibration = Slide it to the left to disable

4- Restrict Location access to the apps that you only need them to have it.

Just ordered this screen protector as I think the reason I can never get this double swipe down to launch camera gesture to work is because of my current glass screen protector:

I actually like the vibration. I know it's a battery killer but I've always liked the feedback since we went to touchscreen only.

And yeah the G5 is another LG disaster. I honestly wouldn't have gotten a flagship until 4Q if the 10 wasn't released.

Your phone is an outlier. That's not the norm by any stretch of the imagination. My Note 5 would have to be attached to a ZeroLemon pack to get that...

No, I don't think so - at least that's not the only reason, it's just been well tuned, instead of run with the out of the box configuration.

The Samsung S7 Edge also has a Application Optimization Settings tool, and that takes time to tune the apps - that takes some elapsed time to take effect.

    Screenshot_20160609-194225.png
    Screenshot_20160609-194259.png

    Screenshot_20160609-200002.jpg

I have done similar tuning for other Android phones, always getting much better time than others quote from stock untouched un-tuned phones.

So, I guess it's true that the results are atypical from what a non-tuned non-patched Samsung S7 Edge would get.

You gotta put in some tuning time to get the extended battery time.

Your HTC 10 will be doing much better with Greenify too, and then do the normal disablement of all the stuff that runs in the background that you don't need.

Coupled with strict closing of apps and turning off the screen, using the Always On screen, and modulating the Wifi as needed.

For now in the HTC 10 case, disabling Wifi when screen is off, at least.

I normally leave the Wifi on all the time, and it is on in the current battery run time results.

Here is the whole Battery settings, I don't have Power Savings on either :)

I guess its never bothered me until my Note decided to totally tank itself to where even on a stock untouched ROM with no apps it went from 100 to dead in 11 hours.

The HTC is fine. Even with the WiFi drain its not that bad. If I use it heavily, I have to charge it before bed. I play games on it too though. That slick Adreno 530 can suck some juice.

Hmmm, I guess it could have been an update or app that caused the Note 5 battery time to tank, or a soft battery. Do you still have it? It might be worth debugging.

Yeah, I definitely don't have any game playing time on my current battery run time

Its just a defective battery. It rapidly discharges even just sitting in the stock recovery. Not the first time I've had a battery go south on me. I restored it to the original T-Mobile firmware I was running and didn't even set up an account or anything and it still drained to dead in ~11 hours.

Just realized HTC has a Mail app......

I never noticed this before until today I was trying to email a photo and I was prompted if I wanna do it using the Gmail app or the Mail app.

What is the use of the latter? Does it allow deleting of emails? The reason I ask is because on my iPhone, the default iOS mail app has no delete option only archive so I had to use the Gmail app

What are the benefits of using the built in mail app vs the Gmail app?

I don't want to use two just the better one

    So with Wi-Fi off...

Most of the screen on time was gaming no less... This phone has amazing battery on LTE. If they fix the Wi-Fi I'll be blown away. My phone is overclocked as well.

I haven't gotten over 24 hours since the Blackberry.

Yeah but the problem is that I've already used 900MB of my 6GB data plan... I've read that HTC implemented some power usage fix in the newer kernels which doesn't affect the WWE firmware so I may convert my phone to WWE or just put up with having to charge it every day until HTC releases a new build that hopefully fixes it. From the sound of it, HTC pushed the fix and actually broke it.

You may be able to call your provider and explain the problem, and get some dispensation - increased data plan - gratis until HTC gets a fix pushed. It's a provider phone?

Well I have a 20GB data stash bucket since I never used data on my old phone. I'm not really that worried about it, it's just nice not having to charge every day but I'm pretty much always home so it's not the end of the world.

It's a carrier phone but there isn't a stock ROM flash kit (RUU) for T-Mobile yet so I can't put it back to stock until there is one. Without the RUU turning security back on can brick the phone if the image signature doesn't match and sending it back with a big red "property of HTC" logo on it isn't really a good idea. The downside of security off is that it shows red text in the bootloader, in the recovery, and when the phone boots that says it's a developer phone and property of HTC. Pretty dead giveaway that it's been modified lol. Most other phones you have to actually go to the Bootloader to see the flags and that's the case with security on and Bootloader unlocked but not with security off as that's not HTC sanctioned (not only because it is the only way to actually brick your device but because it is also the only way to remove any trace of ever unlocking the Bootloader).

Damn, this thread became really long, really fast. Quite surprised that even @Phoenix has gotten a HTC 10. I, by virtue of the fact that I live in Southeast Asia, have been left out of the HTC 10 bandwagon and I'm still limping on with my M8 since HTC hasn't released their phones here yet through carriers (carrier phones in Singapore are unlocked anyway, and have zero carrier bloatware). And to think that I wanted to be one of the first few people on NBR to get the 10...

I was really looking forward to the great camera and incredible DAC, since I was going to purchase a nice new set of Sennheiser/Bose in-ear headphones... Looks like I'll have to wait until July at least.

How to wipe the cache partition

    • Press and hold “Power” until the phone vibrates, then release it
    • Once you gain access to “hTC download mode”, release “Volume down”
    • From the menu, press “Volume Down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
    • Press “Power” to select the highlighted option

    • Press “Power”
    • Press and hold the power button, then press volume up(while still holding the power button down) to see the recovery meny
    • From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe cache partition”

Check the HTC Dev downloads section. Mostly the RUUs show up there.

HTC actually has them on their site for the US now but RUUs are only released when a new ROM drops and T-Mobile hasn't gotten an update as of yet.

Jeez it has been forever... Glad it's finally shipping. Fingers crossed for a Tianma panel and Wi-Fi that doesn't kill your battery!
