HTC just released OTA 1.80 for US unlocked... RUUing back to stock 1.53 and flashing. It comes with updated firmware so lets hope there's a wlan_rx_wake fix!
-
Cant you just go into OEM RUU and flash the firmware zip (twice)?
That is easier, and updates only what you need. -
I want to start fresh. Its not like Titanium Backup takes that long to restore things and this way I get a completely clean system so I have the lowest risk of something being broken.
-
True, im a lazy person, usually if the base is pretty much the same i just firmware zip flash it.
-
Yeah but the only way to make sure something has been fixed is to do a full install which I'm sad to say, the Wi-Fi drain was not fixed. -_-hmscott likes this.
-
-
It doesn't because HTC's Wi-Fi "fix" hasn't been pushed to WWE devices yet, they're still on 1.3 with the March security update...hmscott likes this.
-
Ahh, i was able to swap the wifi drivers / modules on my HTC One X way back. Im not sure if that will work for you. That phone has serious wifi issues.
But it should be worth a shot. -
I'm not going to mess with it. I'm always around the charger anyway, its just frustrating knowing what the phone is capable of... The kernel base on 1.30 is 3.10 while on 1.53 and 1.8 its 3.18 so there's a chance the modules wouldn't even be compatible.hmscott likes this.

@Ethrem
Did you get the new Update 1.80.617.81? Seems to improve the radio signal
I'm still stuck on 1.30

Can the 10 be rooted and TWRP installed for major US carriers?Ethrem likes this.
-
Yeah I got it. Didn't fix my Wi-Fi drain as much as I'd like but it doesn't drain as much when sleeping now. Signal hasn't been an issue for me at all so I can't comment there.
Yes, all but Verizon. You have to ship your phone off if you get it from Verizon to get it unlocked, TWRP'd, and S-OFF right now.
The unlocked version direct from HTC works on Verizon with a bit of work and an already activated SIM.
All the other carriers are no problem. HTCDev to get unlock token, flash unlock token, flash TWRP, flash special SuperSU that doesn't decrypt data. -

Very nice! About time they push you guys an update!

yeah big jump man, I was at 1.30.401.1 before thisEthrem likes this. -
Hopefully you don't get hit by the Wi-Fi drain bug. Although in your case you can just flash the 1.30 RUU to go back. US unlocked doesn't have a RUU before the Wi-Fi "fix" was implemented.
Beware that the update takes awhile... Mine was smaller and still took down my phone for 20 minutes while it installed and took another 10 minutes before it settled after boot so if you have anything you need to do, make sure you schedule the update for later.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

What took the most time is the Optimizing apps dialogue.......takes forever....dunno what the heck is it optimizing anyway
I don't see any differences.....no detailed changelogEthrem likes this. -
Yeah I just flashed a custom ROM that is made from that base called ICE and it comes with that kernel... Its definitely more responsive than the US unlocked kernel so I don't know what HTC did. Once I'm done charging I'll check out the WiFi wake lock status.

That's a result of ART - all the apps are compiled and loaded into the Dalvik cache before the phone boots. Before Android L, we had the JIT compiler, which made Android considerably slower than it would have been if apps were pre-compiled.Ethrem, bloodhawk and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Yup HTC 10 camera. On auto no less. The camera on this thing is actually really good, the problem is that you basically have to use a microfiber on it every time you go to use it because it smudges really easy. I'd be curious to know what they used for it because it's not the same properties as gorilla glass which wipes off easily.Ionising_Radiation and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Yeah I noticed that too. Gotta keep a fiber cloth in my wallet at all times but at least it's better than the crappy M9 camera

yeah you opened my eyes to that fact when you zoomed in the photos of the iPhone SE while I was at the cafe remember? that's when I realized the camera on that phone is garbage when zoomed in due to the noise.Ethrem likes this. -

What's even stranger bro is that both the iPhone SE and the HTC 10 have a 12 MP camera.....

I think the HTC takes more natural pictures than the 6S, G5, or S7... They don't have the exaggerated pop those cameras do and that is probably why people tend to dislike pictures from this camera. It takes much more accurate shots akin to a real camera rather than exaggerating shots to make them look good.Ionising_Radiation and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

What I realized so far about this update is now my phone discharge rate is much slower
I am @ 61% battery life where yesterday at the same time / usage I was @49% -
-
Yeah my battery seems to be doing better as well. I'll wait til it's at 5 percent to make any judgment though because the calibration could be off.

things are looking really good if the discharge rate has already slowed down without even letting the phone charge and settle for 3 days which is what you really need to make a final decision but so far thinks are looking promising.Ethrem likes this. -
Not to mention that the phone just got an update which means it needs time to settle down again.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

This hasn't been my experience at all. I've had most Samsung phones since they started making them, and I get 2-3 days of standby time easily.
I can only assume you got a faulty unit.hmscott likes this. -

It's likely you purchased the S7 at the wrong point in time, and got a problem process draining your battery.
I am still getting several days runtime on my S7 Edge, into a 4th day this time before I decided to do some benchmarking with Antutu; you inspired me.
I figured out why my score was so low, I had set all Apps's on Power Optimization...
After disabling power optimization for Antutu* apps, I got a more normal score, still not the 134k I could be seeing according to Antutu's comparison list for the Samsung S7 Edge, but much better than the 94k I was seeing on power optimization:
I still have power optimization set for most of the rest of the system and user apps, but I'm happy enough with this score to leave everything power optimized

please charge your phone to full, then exit all apps. Preferably, do a cache partition wipe also.
Then put your phone in the fridge and run the benchmark -

no seriously, so it won't overheat and throttle

The fridge can cause condensation and break the phone.
Also my turning WiFi off when the screen is off seems to help quite a bit.

I fiddled around with a friends T-Mobile HTC 10 yesterday here at work, and he doesn't seem to have this issue. He converted to unlocked and is rocking the stock rooted WWE.
His battery with moderate use and tons of emails, lasts around 38-40 hours.hmscott likes this. -
Unlocked and WWE are two different things. If he's on WWE he won't have VoLTE or WiFi calling.
Either way, it appears that it's a WiFi chip defect made worse by something HTC did to the Broadcom driver to try to fix it but until a T-Mobile RUU comes out, I can't get a warranty exchange. -
Yep Yep, i meant, did the full unlocking ritual (S-OFF , bootloader) and then changed to WWE.
There was a Xposed module that helps with wake locks, ill look for the exact name once im home.Ethrem likes this. -

So I just bought battery stats, how do I confirm whether or not I have the WiFi battery draining bug or not?hmscott likes this.
